Layered manganese dioxide(δ-MnO_(2))is a promising cathode material for aqueous zinc-ion batteries(AZIBs)due to its high theoretical capacity,high operating voltage,and low cost.However,its practical application faces challenges,such as low electronic conductivity,sluggish diffusion kinetics,and severe dissolution of Mn^(2+).In this study,we developed a δ-MnO_(2) coated with a 2-methylimidazole(δ-MnO_(2)@2-ML)hybrid cathode.Density functional theory(DFT)calculations indicate that 2-ML can be integrated into δ-MnO_(2) through both pre-intercalation and surface coating,with thermodynamically favorable outcomes.This modification expands the interlayer spacing of δ-MnO_(2) and generates Mn-N bonds on the surface,enhancing Zn^(2+)accommodation and diffusion kinetics as well as stabilizing surface Mn sites.The experimentally prepared δ-MnO_(2)@2-ML cathode,as predicted by DFT,features both 2-ML pre-intercalation and surface coating,providing more zinc-ion insertion sites and improved structural stability.Furthermore,X-ray diffraction shows the expanded interlayer spacing,which effectively buffers local electrostatic interactions,leading to an enhanced Zn^(2+)diffusion rate.Consequently,the optimized cathode(δ-MnO_(2)@2-ML)presents improved electrochemical performance and stability,and the fabricated AZIBs exhibit a high specific capacity(309.5mAh/g at 0.1 A/g),superior multiplicative performance(137.6mAh/g at 1 A/g),and impressive capacity retention(80%after 1350 cycles at 1 A/g).These results surpass the performance of most manganese-based and vanadium-based cathode materials reported to date.This dual-modulation strategy,combining interlayer engineering and interface optimization,offers a straightforward and scalable approach,potentially advancing the commercial viability of low-cost,high-performance AZIBs. 展开更多

Cold spray,as a solid-state additive manufacturing process,has been attracting increasing attention from both scientific and industrial communities.However,cold-sprayed deposits generally have unfavorable mechanical properties in their as-fabricated state compared to conventionally manufactured and fusion-based additive-manufactured counterparts due to the inherent microstructural defects in the deposits(e.g.,porosity and incomplete interparticle bonding).This downside reduces its competitiveness and limits its wide applications as an additive manufacturing process.In the past years,many strengthening technologies have been developed or introduced to adjust the microstructure and improve the mechanical properties of cold-sprayed deposits.The term“strengthening”in this work specifically refers to improving the mechanical strength,particularly the tensile strength of the cold-sprayed bulk deposits.According to the stage that the strengthening technologies are used in the cold spray process,they can be classified into three categories:pre-process(e.g.,powder heat treatment),in-process(e.g.,powder heating,in-situ micro-forging,laser-assisted cold spray),and post-process(e.g.,post heat treatment,hot isostatic pressing,hot rolling,friction stir processing).Therefore,a comprehensive review of these strengthening technolo-gies is conducted to illuminate the possible correlations between the strengthening mechanisms and the resultant deposit microstructures and mechanical properties.This review paper aims to help researchers and engineers well understand the different strengthening methods and provide guidance for the cold spray community to develop new strengthening strategies for future high-quality mass production. 展开更多

This paper introduces a method to design an optimal alternative powertrain based on a longitudinal dynamic simulation. The objective function of the minimization problem describes the characteristic map of the traction system. The goal of the optimization is to minimize fuel consumption respectively energy demand. Different types of propulsion systems are investigated. The results show that the proposed method delivers useful alternative powertrains by applying an optimization with reasonable restrictions. 展开更多

In order to evaluate how much Total Solar Irradiance(TSI)has influenced Northern Hemisphere surface air temperature trends,it is important to have reliable estimates of both quantities.Sixteen different estimates of the changes in TSI since at least the 19th century were compiled from the literature.Half of these estimates are"low variability"and half are"high variability".Meanwhile,five largely-independent methods for estimating Northern Hemisphere temperature trends were evaluated using:1)only rural weather stations;2)all available stations whether urban or rural(the standard approach);3)only sea surface temperatures;4)tree-ring widths as temperature proxies;5)glacier length records as temperature proxies.The standard estimates which use urban as well as rural stations were somewhat anomalous as they implied a much greater warming in recent decades than the other estimates,suggesting that urbanization bias might still be a problem in current global temperature datasets-despite the conclusions of some earlier studies.Nonetheless,all five estimates confirm that it is currently warmer than the late 19th century,i.e.,there has been some"global warming"since the 19th century.For each of the five estimates of Northern Hemisphere temperatures,the contribution from direct solar forcing for all sixteen estimates of TSI was evaluated using simple linear least-squares fitting.The role of human activity on recent warming was then calculated by fitting the residuals to the UN IPCC’s recommended"anthropogenic forcings"time series.For all five Northern Hemisphere temperature series,different TSI estimates suggest everything from no role for the Sun in recent decades(implying that recent global warming is mostly human-caused)to most of the recent global warming being due to changes in solar activity(that is,that recent global warming is mostly natural).It appears that previous studies(including the most recent IPCC reports)which had prematurely concluded the former,had done so because they failed to adequately consider all the relevant estimates of TSI and/or to satisfactorily address the uncertainties still associated with Northern Hemisphere temperature trend estimates.Therefore,several recommendations on how the scientific community can more satisfactorily resolve these issues are provided. 展开更多

Driving simulators involve the capability of simulating critical and dangerous driving situations up to the limits of active safety. They are employed for investigating the interactions of the driver-vehicle system under reproducible and non-dangerous conditions. Because of their flexibility they are well established in scientific research. They are mainly used in current automotive fields of research like driver assistance and autonomous driving systems. The development of assistance systems makes the human being as the directly concerned component irreplaceable in the development process. Here the use of driving simulators has become an essential element, because they offer the possibility to integrate the human being as a real part into the simulation environment. It must be considered that the circuit of information has to be the same as under real driving conditions. Otherwise the results are not transferable. This paper deals with the possibilities of presenting all information to the driver, which are necessary to give him a realistic impression of driving. A main subject is the sensation of yaw-movements, which could be of interest when novel kinds of moving base systems are designed. 展开更多

Since 2007,the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC)has heavily relied on the comparison between global climate model hindcasts and global surface temperature(ST)estimates for concluding that post-1950s global warming is mostly human-caused.In Connolly et al.,we cautioned that this approach to the detection and attribution of climate change was highly dependent on the choice of Total Solar Irradiance(TSI)and ST data sets.We compiled 16 TSI and five ST data sets and found by altering the choice of TSI or ST,one could(prematurely)conclude anything from the warming being“mostly human-caused”to“mostly natural.”Richardson and Benestad suggested our analysis was“erroneous”and“flawed”because we did not use a multilinear regression.They argued that applying a multilinear regression to one of the five ST series re-affirmed the IPCC's attribution statement.They also objected that many of the published TSI data sets were out-of-date.However,here we show that when applying multilinear regression analysis to an expanded and updated data set of 27 TSI series,the original conclusions of Connolly et al.are confirmed for all five ST data sets.Therefore,it is still unclear whether the observed warming is mostly human-caused,mostly natural or some combination of both. 展开更多
