The reform of the modem higher education system requires the personnel training in colleges and universities to lay a stress on the diversified development, so that the traditional single professional course education can be changed. Mental health has a close tie with the personal development trend of each student in colleges and universities, and also developing mental health education is one of the most important parts in higher education. For a long time, colleges and universities always adhere to the personnel-based educational idea and attach high importance to the work of professional course education, but fail to provide enough importance for guiding the detailed mental health of students. Thus, the mental health education in colleges and universities is misunderstood in many aspects, and this is studied in this paper.展开更多

Quasi-experimental (pre-test-post-test) research design was employed. Two hundred students drawn from the University, Polytechnic and College of Education, using a multi-stage sampling technique participated in the peer sessions which were facilitated by trained peer educators. Data were analyzed using ANCOVA and Z-test. Findings revealed improved knowledge and attitudes on sexual health, as depicted by positive mean gain scores. Age group 16 - 20 years had the highest mean gain score (<img src="Edit_8e8f0539-e2c6-47bc-80f1-ccaee4c06df5.png" alt="" /> = 22.31) of sexual health knowledge than the rest, while age group 26 - 30 years had the highest mean gain score (<img src="Edit_dec53aa0-f549-425f-baf4-08f39aaf05fd.png" alt="" /> = 10.59) of sexual health attitudes. Males had higher mean gain score (<img src="Edit_e767bc6a-c1f3-4f0a-8b31-814581d9dd64.png" alt="" /> = 26.05) of sexual health knowledge, while females had higher mean gain score (<img src="Edit_79f87968-38f8-4873-8516-f5370ba691df.png" alt="" /> = 9.77) of sexual health attitudes. The first years (100 level students) had the highest mean gain score (<img src="Edit_3f417e44-7627-4d69-860e-94c94ae7db0e.png" alt="" /> = 25.71) of sexual health knowledge and also had the highest mean gain score (<img src="Edit_2a60fbc7-0a2c-49fe-b9a2-1cea354966a3.png" alt="" /> = 14.12) of sexual health attitudes. Level of study was significant both for knowledge and attitudes (P < 0.01). It is recommended that peer-health-education be explored further as a method of communicating sexual health issues to tertiary institution students and youths generally.展开更多

The intensive culture of P. vannamei poses substantial environmental risks, particularly in fragile ecosystems like estuarine mangroves. Although there is a consensus on the pollution and harmful effects of microplastics(MPs), study on the pollution and potential risks posed by P. vannamei in estuary mangroves remains scarce. Therefore, the extent of microplastic pollution was evaluated and the correlation between the properties of MPs and the potential risks they pose to P. vannamei was examined. The average MP abundance in P. vannamei from Jiulong River estuary was determined to be 0.46±0.03 n/g in five different polymers, i.e., polypropylene(PP), polyethylene(PE), polystyrene(PS), polyethylene terephthalate(PET), and polyvinyl chloride resin(PVC). The total percentage of PS, PE, and PET polymers was the greatest(73.85%), where PET and PP(26.16%) were highly correlated in size and shape. Small MPs(1-200 μm) come in irregular particles, fragments, films, and large-sized MPs(200-1 000 μm) were mainly foam-shaped. The hazard risk level of MPs in P. vannamei from Jiulong River estuary reached grade Ⅲ, and the overall hazard risk index(H) value was 593.66. Among all samples,PVC polymer accounted for the lowest proportion(5.52%), but the H value was as high as 582.42, which contributed 98.11% to the overall hazard risk index. Regardless of global or Chinese, the microplastic pollution of P. vannamei in the estuary is at a moderate level. The protocol for MPs characteristics and correlation in seafood should be the basis for the risk assessment framework. Further studies are needed to evaluate how the exposure to MPs poses a risk for human health.展开更多

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of an educational program based on the health belief model on self-efficacy among patients with type 2 diabetes referred to the Iranian Diabetes Association in 2014. Method: A randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted. Eighty patients with type 2 diabetes were selected randomly by the double block sample method. They were then divided into two groups of intervention and control (40 patients in each group) by random allocation. Data were collected by a questionnaire based on the Health Belief Model and self-efficacy. The data were gathered two months after the educational program was held. The educational program was designed on the basis of data collected in the pre-test phase. Then, the educational program was executed for the intervention group in 8 sessions (each 30 minutes) using lectures and an educational booklet. Data analysis was done with Chi-square Test, Pearson’s correlation, Independent samples T-test and paired T-test. The significance level was considered at 0.05. Results: Before intervention, no significant difference was detected between the two groups. However, after intervention all variables were significantly different except for perceived threat. Moreover, there were significant linear relationships between Self-efficacy and all Health Belief Model components after the educational intervention in both groups (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The educational program based on the health belief model increased self-efficacy in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients.展开更多

This change is also driven by evolvingsocial philosophies, ethical trends, and lifestyles.” [1] Thatpreamble reverberates as strongly now as then, perhapseven more so, given the velocity of technological change. When we deliberated on which aspects of medical practiceshould remain stable, we had few premonitions thatimplantable chips, robotic surgery, virtual reality, andartificial intelligence (AI) would soon become ubiquitous. The needle has clearly moved, propelled by extraordinaryadvances in bioengineering, computer and data sciences;major shifts in the governance and organization of clinicalpractice;and powerful sociocultural trends.展开更多

Undernutrition management is complex, and there is often a risk of treatment abandonment. Studies on this topic have not explored the influence of environmental and therapeutic factors on parental compliance. This study proposes an analysis of factors influencing the abandonment of nutritional recovery by parents of malnourished children aged 6 to 59 months in ambulatory care. Methods: This was a descriptive and exploratory qualitative study. Data collection took place in February 2020. Data were collected from seventeen (17) participants via in-depth interviews (IDI) and direct observation. The IDIs were transcribed verbatim and thematically analyzed using Nvivo software. Results: The results revealed that factors related to the physical environment, such as geographical inaccessibility, pastoral occupation, displacement at auriferous sites, and insecurity, are important causes of nutritional recovery abandonment. They also prove that factors related to the social environment, such as lack of family and social support, feelings of shame, stigmatization, occupation of the mother, and social events, lead to this abandonment. In addition, therapeutic factors such as interruptions of supplies of Ready to Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), feeling of improvement or worsening of the state of health, recourse to traditional medicine, and ignorance of undernutrition are also associated with this issue. Conclusion: This study highlighted barriers to the abandonment of nutritional recovery among parents of severely malnourished children aged 6 to 59 months in the health district of Titao, Burkina Faso. It is more important to consider these different factors when evaluating care protocols so that policies to reduce child undernutrition can considerably impact the targets.展开更多

文摘In recent years, under the background of the deepening reform of China’s education system, the curriculum system settings, teaching methods, and teaching concepts of various colleges and universities have undergone major changes. As a curriculum concept, ideological and political education in courses does not reform a certain professional course, nor does it change the ideological and political course itself.Instead,it combines knowledge imparting and value output to guide students in a positive way. This article analyzes the ideological and political education in college students’mental health education courses.
文摘Colleges and universities are the educational institutions of training young students. Thus, the mental health education in colleges and universities is misunderstood in many aspects, and this is studied in this paper.

文摘Penaeus vannamei, known as the whiteleg shrimp, holds significant economic importance in aquaculture. Further studies are needed to evaluate how the exposure to MPs poses a risk for human health.
文摘Background: Patient self-efficacy is one of the most important factors in treating and overcoming disease. Conclusion: The educational program based on the health belief model increased self-efficacy in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients.

文摘1 | BACKGROUND.A decade ago we asked the question, “Is there something inmedicine that is eternal or enduring?” Our aim was to writea manuscript entitled, “That which does not change inmedicine.” The publication begins as follows: “The practiceof medicine involves continual change, driven by a constantstream of developments in the understanding of biologicalstructure and function relevant to human diseases, and theparallel improvements in pharmacologic and other technologicalinterventions. The needle has clearly moved, propelled by extraordinaryadvances in bioengineering, computer and data sciences;major shifts in the governance and organization of clinicalpractice;and powerful sociocultural trends.
文摘Introduction: In Burkina Faso, undernutrition is a public health problem associated with more than 40% of infant and child mortality. It is more important to consider these different factors when evaluating care protocols so that policies to reduce child undernutrition can considerably impact the targets.

文摘The protective role of(poly)phenols against metabolic disorders has been extensively studied in adults but not in adolescents. To assess associations of dietary(poly)phenols and their subclasses with cardiometabolic health parameters in adolescents.A cross-sectional study was conducted in 944 individuals aged 11–14 years enrolled in the SI!Program for Secondary Schools trial(NCT03504059).(Poly)phenol intake was assessed using semiquantitative food frequency questionnaires and the Phenol-Explorer database. The measured cardiometabolic parameters were waist circumference(WC)age-sex Z-score,blood pressure(BP)age-sex Z-score,blood glucose(BG),triglycerides(TG),and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-c).Multilevel mixedeffect linear regression models were applied to examine the association between(poly)phenol quintiles and cardiometabolic health parameters.Compared to the lowest quintile, adolescents in the highest quintile of total(poly)phenol intake had lower WC Z-scores,mean arterial pressure Z-scores,and HDL-c after multivariable adjustment. The WC Z-scores and HDL-c were lower in the highest quintile of flavonoid intake compared to the lowest quintile. The highest quintile of phenolic acid intake was associated with a lower WC Z-score and TG levels, and the highest quintile of stilbene intake with lower BG and TG,and with higher HDL-c compared to the lowest quintile.A higher intake of(poly)phenols, especially flavonoids, phenolic acids, and stilbenes, was associated with better cardiometabolic parameters in adolescents.
文摘This editorial highlights a recently published study examining the effectiveness of music therapy combined with motivational interviewing(MI)in addressing an-xiety and depression among young and middle-aged patients following percuta-neous coronary intervention. It further explores existing evidence and potential future research directions for MI in postoperative rehabilitation and chronic disease management.MI aims to facilitate behavioral change and promote healthier lifestyles by fostering a trusting relationship with patients and enhan-cing intrinsic motivation.Research has demonstrated its effectiveness in posto-perative recovery for oncological surgery, stroke, organ transplants, and gastroin-testinal procedures,as well as in managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and periodontal disease. The approach is patient-centered,adaptable,cost-effective,and easily replicable, though its limitations include reliance on the therapist’s expertise, variability in individual responses, and insufficient long-term follow-up studies.Future research could focus on developing individualized and precise intervention models, exploring applications in digital health management, and confirming long-term outcomes to provide more compre-hensive support for patient rehabilitation.
文摘BACKGROUND Hypertension(HTN)is a significant global health concern due to its rising prevalence and associated risks of cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, and other comorbidities. The increasing rates of HTN among youth have been partly attributed to the global rise in childhood obesity, lipid abnormalities, and sedentary lifestyles.AIM To investigate the independent associations of aerobic fitness(AF),the triglyceride-to-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(TG/HDL-C)ratio,visceral adiposity index(VAI),and resting blood pressure(BP)in Nigerian adolescents.METHODS A multistage sampling technique was used to select 403 in-school adolescents aged 11-19 years in Kogi East,Nigeria.Participants were assessed for AF,TG/HDL-C ratio,VAI,systolic BP(SBP),and diastolic BP(DBP).The associations between the independent variables and the risk of systolic and diastolic HTN were examined using multivariate regression models, controlling for age and maturity status.Receiver operating characteristics curve(ROC)and area under the curve(AUC)were employed to determine the predictive capacities of the independent variables.RESULTS The overall prevalence of systolic HTN was 5.5%(girls:7%;boys:4%)while diastolic HTN was 12.7%(girls:16.9%;boys:8.4%).Among girls, all independent variables showed significant associations with SBP,including fitness(P<0.001),TG/HDL-C(P<0.001),and VAI(P<0.001),with VAI showing the strongest association. In boys, all independent variables except VAI(P=0.063)were significantly associated with SBP,with fitness showing the stronger predictive power(Fitness,P<0.001;TG/HDL-C,P=0.029).For DBP,all independent variables, except fitness in girls(P=0.099),were significantly associated(P<0.001)in both sexes.Unfit boys were 1.1 times more likely to develop systolic HTN(95%CI:1.01–1.15,P=0.018)and had 1.1 times higher odds of developing diastolic HTN(95%CI:1.03–1.13,P=0.001).Only the ROC for DBP turned up significant(P<0.001)AUCs for TG/HDL-C and VAI in girls only, with 0.6 and 1.0 thresholds respectively.CONCLUSION AF,dyslipidemia, and visceral adipose tissue dysfunction were independently associated with the risk of HTN in Nigerian adolescents. These findings highlight the importance of promoting a healthy diet and encouraging aerobic physical activity among adolescents to reduce the risk of HTN.
文摘BACKGROUND The prevalence of metabolic syndrome(MetS)in adolescents is rising, correlating with the global increase in obesity and physical inactivity.AIM To examine the individual and combined associations of fitness, fatness, visceral adiposity index(VAI),and lipid ratios with MetS risk in Nigerian adolescents.METHODS This cross-sectional study included a sample of 403 adolescents(201 girls and 202 boys)aged 11-19 years.Participants were assessed for cardiorespiratory fitness, body mass index(BMI),VAI,triglyceride-to-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio(TG/HDL-C),and total cholesterol-to-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio(TC/HDL-C).Regression models adjusted for age and sexual maturity were used to determine the associations between these health markers and MetS risk.RESULTS Among the 177 high-risk adolescents,56.6%were at risk of central obesity,49.1%had low fitness,33.3%had dyslipidemia, and 11.7%were obese. After controlling for confounding variables, all health markers were independently and jointly associated with MetS risk, with VAI displaying the strongest explanatory power(girls:β=1.308,P<0.001;boys:β=2.300,P<0.001).Unfit girls were 5.1%more likely to be at risk of MetS,while the odds of unfit boys being at risk of MetS is 3.6.Boys with elevated VAI were 22.3 times more likely to be at risk of MetS,while the likelihood of girls with elevated VAI developing MetS risk is 2.78.CONCLUSION Health markers were independently and jointly associated with MetS risk in adolescents, with VAI and dyslip-idemia contributing most significantly.Promoting healthy eating and also aerobic activities among adolescents is crucial for improving metabolic health.

文摘Objectives:The aim of this study was to verify the causal relationship between trait aggressiveness(TA)and moral disengagement(MD),know more about the growth trajectory of MD,and explore the effects of gender and TA on the growth trajectory. Methods:We used the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire and Moral Disengagement Scale to survey 433 Chinese junior high school students longitudinally three times. Results:The results of the random intercept cross-lagged panel model(RI-CLPM)analysis indicated that TA positively predicted MD,while MD did not predict TA at the within-person level. Thus,TA could be considered an antecedent variable of MD.Furthermore, the unconditional latent growth linear model analysis revealed that MD among junior high school students exhibited an upward trend, characterized by an increasing rate of growth over time.In the conditional latent growth linear model analysis,we found that gender influenced only the initial level of MD but had no effect on its growth rate.Conversely,TA demonstrated both delayed and immediate positive effects on the growth of MD.Conclusions:Our findings suggested a one-way cross-lag effect between TA and MD.Additionally, the growth trajectory of MD among junior high school students was found to be ascending. This growth trajectory was influenced by gender and TA,offering valuable insights for the prevention and intervention of behavioral problems in junior high school students.
文摘This study tested a chain mediation model on whether hopelessness and nostalgia play a mediating role in psychache and suicidal ideation of firefighters.A total of 652 firefighters participated in the survey(male=94.94%;mean age=23.71 years,SD=4.18 years). The firefighters completed the Chinese Revised Psychache Scale(PAS),Beck Hopelessness Scale(BHS),Southampton Nostalgia Scale(SNS),and Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale(CSSRS).The path analysis results indicated that psychache positively predicted suicidal ideation.Hopelessness plays a significant mediating role between psychache and suicidal ideation further strengthening this relationship. In contrast, nostalgia mediates and weakened the relationship between psychache and suicidal ideation.Hopelessness and nostalgia jointly constructed a chain mediating effect between psychache and suicidal ideation, for higher suicidal ideation with higher hopelessness and lower nostalgia. The findings align with the Three-Step Theory of Suicide, which proposes that suicidal ideation results from the combination of pain and hopelessness and that connectedness is a key protective factor against escalating ideation. Therefore, interventions to reduce suicidal ideation in firefighters should aim to enhance their nostalgia, while reducing sense of hopelessness.
