Conventional prediction methods, such as the Equivalent Depth Method, are either inapplicable or yield unsatisfactory results (e.g., Fillippone’s method), contributing to frequent drilling incidents like gas kick, overfl ow, and lost circulation, which hinder the safe and effi cient exploration of natural gas. To address these challenges, this paper integrates lithology, physical properties, and overpressure mechanisms of the Canglangpu Formation. From a petrophysical perspective, a pore pressure prediction model independent of lithology and overpressure mechanisms was developed by combining the poroelasticity theory, linear elastic Hooke’s Law, and Biot’s eff ective stress theory, with an analysis of the relationship between carbonate rock strain, external stress, and internal pore pressure. Unlike conventional methods, the model does not rely on the establishment of a normal compaction trend line. Pre-stack seismic inversion was applied to achieve 3D pore pressure prediction for the formation. Results indicate high accuracy, with a relative error of less than 5% compared to measured data, and strong consistency with actual drilling events. The proposed method provides robust technical support for pore pressure prediction in carbonate formations and drilling geological design.展开更多

Through correlation analysis of core test data and logging P-S wave velocity, this work proposed a formula to calculate the shear wave velocity in different porosity ranges, and solved the issue that some wells in the study area have no S-wave data. AVO forward analysis reveals that formation porosity is the main factor affecting the variation of AVO type, the change of water saturation cannot affect the AVO type, but it has an effect on the change range of AVO. Through cross-plotting analysis of elastic parameters, it is found that fluid factor is a parameter sensitive to gas-bearing property of organic reef reservoir in the study area. By comparing results of post-stack impedance inversion, post-stack high frequency attenuation property, pre-stack simultaneous inversion and AVO anomaly analysis of angle gathers, it is found that the gas-bearing prediction of organic reef reservoirs by using fluid factor derived from simultaneous pre-stack inversion had the highest coincidence rate with actual drilling data. At last, according to the characteristics of fluid factor distribution, the favorable gas-bearing area of the organic reef reservoir in Changxing Formation was predicted, and the organic reef trap at the top of Changxing Formation in Block A of Damaoping area was sorted out as the next exploration target.展开更多

Although this technique has been applied mainly to continental orogens, such as the European Alps, Himalayas, and Andes, recent technological development of low-temperature thermochronology has made it applicable to a wider variety of mountain ranges with various sizes and tectonic histories. The Japanese Islands comprise young and active island arcs, where an early stage of mountain range formation is observed. Numerous attempts have been made to constrain the uplift and denudation histories of the mountains in the Japanese Islands using geologic, geomorphologic, or geodetic methods. However, the number of thermochronometric attempts has been limited primarily due to the small amount of total denudation since the initiation of the uplift. In this review paper, we introduce the tectonic and geomorphic settings of the mountain ranges in the Japanese Islands, and discuss previous attempts to estimate uplift or denudation of the Japanese mountains using methods other than ther- mochronology. Furthermore, we discuss problems of the thermochronometric applications in revealing denudation histories of the Japanese mountains. Finally, we present a case study of the Kiso Range in central Japan and discuss the current effectiveness and applicability of low-temperature thermochronology to the Japanese mountainous areas.展开更多

The objective of this paper is to monitor seasonal fluctuations of groundwater and to determine how fluctuation in the water levels will affect the groundwater quality. Groundwater levels were found to be influenced by rainfall and pumping of water from the wells for domestic and industrial use. Twenty water samples were collected from different wells and analyzed for major chemical constituents both in pre- and post-seasons to determine the quality variation. Chemical constituents are significantly increased after post-season recharge. According to the overall assessment of the area, water quality was found to be useful for drinking, irrigation and industry.展开更多

In this paper, the saturation of water percentage for sandstones (SW%) has been calculated by mathematical equation, which is based on the relation between the seismic velocity of water to the seismic velocity obtained in the field (for p-wave velocity only). The results of this equation which ranged between (30% to 100%) are connected with the results of seismic velocity-porosity relation for saturated sandstone through model, this model can be used for determining the porosity (Φ) and water saturation percentage (SW%) of the sandstones in the same time.展开更多

A series of three borehole cores(20 m deep) and two shallow cores(4 m deep), from across the delta plain, were extracted, and samples were collected for luminescence dating. The luminescence ages of sand-sized quartz grains were obtained from small aliquots of quartz, using the Single-Aliquot Regenerative-dose(SAR) protocol. The equivalent dose determination included a series of tests and the selection of the Minimum Age Model(MAM) as the most appropriate statistical model. This made it possible to confirm the applicability of quartz Optically Stimulated Luminescence(OSL) dating to establish absolute chronology for deltaic sediments from the Sperchios delta plain.Testing age results of the five cores showed that the deltaic sediments were deposited during the Holocene.A relatively rapid deposition is implied for the top14 m possibly as a result of the deceleration in the rate of the sea-level rise and the transition to terrestrial conditions, while on the deeper parts, the reduced sedimentation rate may indicate a lagoonal or coastal environment.展开更多
