BACKGROUND Hepatic eosinophilic pseudotumor(HEPT)is a rare condition that mimics ma-lignant hepatic tumors,posing significant diagnostic challenges.This case report highlights the importance of considering parasitic i...BACKGROUND Hepatic eosinophilic pseudotumor(HEPT)is a rare condition that mimics ma-lignant hepatic tumors,posing significant diagnostic challenges.This case report highlights the importance of considering parasitic infections like Fasciola hepatica(F.hepatica)in the differential diagnosis of hepatic masses,especially in endemic regions,to prevent unnecessary interventions.CASE SUMMARY A 40-year-old female presented with a 1-month history of epigastric pain and significant weight loss.Imaging revealed a hepatic mass,initially misdiagnosed as intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma.Laboratory results showed marked eosinophilia,and histopathological examination confirmed significant eosinophilic infiltration without malignancy.Serological testing identified F.hepatica infection.The patient was treated with a single dose of triclabendazole,leading to complete symptom resolution and normalization of hepatic imaging findings within days.CONCLUSION HEPT due to F.hepatica can closely mimic malignancy;timely antiparasitic treat-ment is crucial for resolution.展开更多
BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),the sixth most common cancer and fourthleading cause of cancer-related mortality globally,imposes a significant burden in Vietnam due to endemic hepatitis B virus(HBV)and hepat...BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),the sixth most common cancer and fourthleading cause of cancer-related mortality globally,imposes a significant burden in Vietnam due to endemic hepatitis B virus(HBV)and hepatitis C virus(HCV)infections.Accurate prognostication is crucial for optimizing treatment and outcomes.Numerous staging systems exist,including the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer(BCLC),Hong Kong Liver Cancer(HKLC),cancer of the liver Italian Program(CLIP),Italian Liver Cancer(ITA.LI.CA),Japan Integrated Staging(JIS),Tokyo Score,and model to estimate survival in ambulatory HCC patients(MESIAH).However,their comparative performance in Vietnamese patients remains underexplored.AIM To compare the prognostic accuracy of seven HCC staging systems in predicting survival and identify the optimal model.METHODS This retrospective cohort study included 987 patients with HCC diagnosed at Nhan dan Gia Dinh Hospital,Vietnam,from January 2016 to December 2023.Patients were staged using BCLC,HKLC,CLIP,ITA.LI.CA,JIS,Tokyo score,and MESIAH.Overall survival was analyzed using Kaplan-Meier methods,and prognostic performance was evaluated via the area under the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve,Harrell’s concordance index,and calibration plots.RESULTS The HKLC and BCLC systems demonstrated the highest discriminatory ability,with area under the ROC curves of 0.834 and 0.830,respectively,at 12 months and 0.859 for both systems at 36 months.CLIP and ITA.LI.CA exhibited superior calibration,particularly at 36 months.The JIS system consistently showed the poorest discriminatory performance.Subgroup analyses revealed that HKLC maintained strong performance across different viral etiologies(HBV,HCV,non-B-non-C)and treatment modalities(transarterial chemoembolization,surgery,ablation).CONCLUSION The HKLC and BCLC systems showed superior prognostic performance for Vietnamese patients with HCC,supporting HKLC adoption in clinical practice.展开更多
Based on the Google Earth Engine cloud computing data platform,this study employed three algorithms including Support Vector Machine,Random Forest,and Classification and Regression Tree to classify the current status ...Based on the Google Earth Engine cloud computing data platform,this study employed three algorithms including Support Vector Machine,Random Forest,and Classification and Regression Tree to classify the current status of land covers in Hung Yen province of Vietnam using Landsat 8 OLI satellite images,a free data source with reasonable spatial and temporal resolution.The results of the study show that all three algorithms presented good classification for five basic types of land cover including Rice land,Water bodies,Perennial vegetation,Annual vegetation,Built-up areas as their overall accuracy and Kappa coefficient were greater than 80%and 0.8,respectively.Among the three algorithms,SVM achieved the highest accuracy as its overall accuracy was 86%and the Kappa coefficient was 0.88.Land cover classification based on the SVM algorithm shows that Built-up areas cover the largest area with nearly 31,495 ha,accounting for more than 33.8%of the total natural area,followed by Rice land and Perennial vegetation which cover an area of over 30,767 ha(33%)and 15,637 ha(16.8%),respectively.Water bodies and Annual vegetation cover the smallest areas with 8,820(9.5%)ha and 6,302 ha(6.8%),respectively.The results of this study can be used for land use management and planning as well as other natural resource and environmental management purposes in the province.展开更多
Rapid industrial growth,urbanization,and agricultural activities have led to the discharge of large volumes of pollutants into coastal environments,raising levels of metals such as arsenic(As),cadmium(Cd),and mercury(...Rapid industrial growth,urbanization,and agricultural activities have led to the discharge of large volumes of pollutants into coastal environments,raising levels of metals such as arsenic(As),cadmium(Cd),and mercury(Hg)in water and sediments.Bivalve molluscs,such as Meretrix lyrata and Saccostrea glomerata can accumulate high amounts of toxic heavy metals in their tissues that pose potential risks to human health.They are frequently used as bioindicators due to their filter-feeding behavior and high accumulation potential.This study evaluates heavy metal accumulation in bivalve molluscs from Northeastern Vietnam,including Quang Ninh Province and Hai Phong City.In this study,a systematic literature review was conducted,combined with a bibliometric analysis,to synthesize and evaluate data on heavy metal accumulation in bivalve molluscs from Northeastern Vietnam.The analysis results showed bio-concentration factors exceeding 1,000 for As,Cd,and Hg in certain species,particularly in samples from Quang Ninh Province.Meanwhile,sediment accumulation factors(BSAF)were lower,suggesting that waterborne pathways predominantly contribute to heavy metal uptake.These findings highlight significant food safety risks due to toxic metal accumulation in seafood resources,emphasizing the urgent need for continuous monitoring and the establishment of local safety standards.The study provides important scientific evidence to support marine environmental management and public health protection.展开更多

Little is known about the physiological and psychobiological responses that occur during and after high intensity functional training(HIFT).We compared physiological and psychobiological responses during and after a H...Little is known about the physiological and psychobiological responses that occur during and after high intensity functional training(HIFT).We compared physiological and psychobiological responses during and after a HIFT session with a high intensity continuous training(HICT)session.Twenty-one trained and healthy men were submitted to 20-min session of HIFT and HICT on separate days.The heart rate,blood lactate concentration[Lac],levels of state anxiety,rates of perceived exertion(RPE)and perceived discomfort(RPE-D),and affective valence were measured.Exercise intensity of the HICT was adjusted to the mean heart rate obtained in the HIFT session.The highest heart rate in the training sessions was significantly higher in HIFT(mean±standard deviation[SD]:[187±9]bpm)than in HICT(mean±SD:[178±8]bpm,p<0.001).The[Lac]was significantly higher immediately after the HIFT(median[interquartile range(IQR)]:6.8[4.4]mmol/L)than the HICT(median[IQR]:3.2[1.9],p=0.021)and 10 min after(median[IQR]:HIFT=6.8[4.9]mmol/L,HICT=2.9[2.4]mmol/L,p=0.003).The RPE was also significantly higher in the HIFT(median[IQR]:HIFT=20[2],HICT=15[5],p=0.009).The physiological and psychobiological responses compared between HIFT and HICT sessions are similar,except for the higher heart rate obtained during the sessions,[Lac]and RPE.Probably,the results found for the higher heart rate obtained during the sessions,[Lac]and RPE may be explained by the higher participation of the anaerobic glycolytic metabolism during the HIFT session.展开更多

A high-quality rice variety, LT2, was used as the recipient parent.IRBB21, which carries the Xa21 gene, was used as the donor parent. The resistance gene Xa21 was introduced into LT2 by marker-assisted backcrossing. Three Xoo races were used to inoculate the improved lines following the clipping method. Eleven BC_3F_3 lines carrying Xa21 were obtained based on molecular markers and agronomic performance. The 11 lines were then inoculated with the three Xoo races. All the 11 improved lines showed better resistance to BLB than the recipient parent LT2. Based on the level of resistance to BLB and their agronomic performance, five lines (BC_3F_3 5.1.5.1, BC_3F_3 5.1.5.12, BC_3F_3 8.5.6.44, BC_3F_3 9.5.4.1 and BC_3F_3 9.5.4.23) were selected as the most promising for commercial release. High-affinitypotass...Rice (Oryza sativa) is sensitive to salinity, but the salt tolerance level differs among cultivars,which might result from natural variations in the genes that are responsible for salt tolerance. High-affinitypotassium transporter (HKTs) has been proven to be involved in salt tolerance in plants. Therefore, wescreened for natural nucleotide polymorphism in the coding sequence of OsHKT1, which encodes the HKTprotein in eight Vietnamese rice cultivars differing in salt tolerance level. In total, seven nucleotidesubstitutions in coding sequence of OsHKT1 were found, including two non-synonymous and five synonymoussubstitutions. Further analysis revealed that these two non-synonymous nucleotide substitutions (G50Tand T1209A) caused changes in amino acids (Gly17Val and Asp403Glu) at signal peptide and the loop ofthe sixth transmembrane domain, respectively. To assess the potential effect of these substitutions on theprotein function, the 3D structure of HKT protein variants was modelled by using PHYRE2 webserver. Theresults showed that no difference was observed when compared those predicted 3D structure of HKTprotein variants with each other. In addition, the codon bias of synonymous substitutions cannot clearlyshow correlation with salt tolerance level. It might be interesting to further investigate the functional roles ofdetected non-synonymous substitutions as it might correlate to salt tolerance in rice.展开更多
Glycinebetaine(GB),an osmotic substance,could improve some stress tolerance in plants.CodA gene,originating from bacteria,could translate choline oxidase which stimulates the synthesis of GB in plants.To create lily l...Glycinebetaine(GB),an osmotic substance,could improve some stress tolerance in plants.CodA gene,originating from bacteria,could translate choline oxidase which stimulates the synthesis of GB in plants.To create lily lines resistant to heat,Belladonna lily and Yelloween lily had been transferred CodA gene through Agrobacterium tumefaciens.The bacteria harbored a binary vector carrying the hygromycin phosphotransferase,choline oxidase(CodA)and intron-containingβ-glucuronidase(Gus)genes were co-cultivated with lily bulb scales slides.The result showed that most the bulb scales had developed into bulblets in a regulator-free growth medium,while some expressed the hygromycin-resistance,heat tolerance and Gus gene expression.Among them,one line demonstrated primarily the transcription level expression through reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR).Moreover,they were tested with the accumulation of GB which was evident that the transferred line had four times of GB volumes higher than that of wild type.The original evidence could open a right approach to enhance stress tolerance in lily plants.展开更多
BACKGROUND Muscle growth promoters are being developed for the treatment of diseaseinduced loss of muscle mass.Ligandrol and ostarine are selective androgen receptor modulators(SARMs)with a non-steroidal structure and...BACKGROUND Muscle growth promoters are being developed for the treatment of diseaseinduced loss of muscle mass.Ligandrol and ostarine are selective androgen receptor modulators(SARMs)with a non-steroidal structure and a presumably more favorable side effect profile.In recent years,these substances with or without“post-cycle therapy”(PCT)are often misused by amateur athletes aiming to promote muscle growth.At the same time,reports on their toxic effects on organ systems are emerging.CASE SUMMARY We report two cases of liver injury in young men who used ligandrol and/or ostarine for a few weeks followed by the use of substances for PCT.Acute liver injury occurred in both cases after stopping SARMs while on PCT.The clinical picture was dominated by jaundice and fatigue.The biochemical pattern showed a mixed type of injury with normal alkaline phosphatase and high concentrations of bilirubin and serum bile acids. Histological evidence showed predominantlycholestatic injury with canalicular bile plugs, ductopenia, and mild hepatocellulardamage without significant fibrosis. The patients recovered from the conditionafter 3 mo. The off target effects of SARMs were likely idiosyncratic, but ourreport highlights the yet unrecognized effects of other toxic substances used forPCT, supra-therapeutic doses, and the complete absence of monitoring foradverse effects.CONCLUSIONAmong muscle-building amateur athletes, SARMs (ligandrol or ostarine) and/orsubstances in PCT may cause cholestatic liver injury with prolonged recovery.展开更多

文摘Little is known about the physiological and psychobiological responses that occur during and after high intensity functional training(HIFT).We compared physiological and psychobiological responses during and after a HIFT session with a high intensity continuous training(HICT)session.Twenty-one trained and healthy men were submitted to 20-min session of HIFT and HICT on separate days.The heart rate,blood lactate concentration[Lac],levels of state anxiety,rates of perceived exertion(RPE)and perceived discomfort(RPE-D),and affective valence were measured.Exercise intensity of the HICT was adjusted to the mean heart rate obtained in the HIFT session.The highest heart rate in the training sessions was significantly higher in HIFT(mean±standard deviation[SD]:[187±9]bpm)than in HICT(mean±SD:[178±8]bpm,p<0.001).The[Lac]was significantly higher immediately after the HIFT(median[interquartile range(IQR)]:6.8[4.4]mmol/L)than the HICT(median[IQR]:3.2[1.9],p=0.021)and 10 min after(median[IQR]:HIFT=6.8[4.9]mmol/L,HICT=2.9[2.4]mmol/L,p=0.003).The RPE was also significantly higher in the HIFT(median[IQR]:HIFT=20[2],HICT=15[5],p=0.009).The physiological and psychobiological responses compared between HIFT and HICT sessions are similar,except for the higher heart rate obtained during the sessions,[Lac]and RPE.Probably,the results found for the higher heart rate obtained during the sessions,[Lac]and RPE may be explained by the higher participation of the anaerobic glycolytic metabolism during the HIFT session.
文摘Bacterial leaf blight of rice (BLB), caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae, is one of the most destructive diseases in Asian rice fields. A high-quality rice variety, LT2, was used as the recipient parent.IRBB21, which carries the Xa21 gene, was used as the donor parent. The resistance gene Xa21 was introduced into LT2 by marker-assisted backcrossing. Three Xoo races were used to inoculate the improved lines following the clipping method. Eleven BC_3F_3 lines carrying Xa21 were obtained based on molecular markers and agronomic performance. The 11 lines were then inoculated with the three Xoo races. All the 11 improved lines showed better resistance to BLB than the recipient parent LT2. Based on the level of resistance to BLB and their agronomic performance, five lines (BC_3F_3 5.1.5.1, BC_3F_3 5.1.5.12, BC_3F_3 8.5.6.44, BC_3F_3 9.5.4.1 and BC_3F_3 9.5.4.23) were selected as the most promising for commercial release. These improved lines could contribute to rice production in terms of food security.

文摘Many aspects of cellular physiology display circadian(approximately 24-h)rhythms.Dysfunction of the circadian clock molecular circuitry is associated with human health derangements,including neurodegeneration,increased risk of cancer,cardiovascular diseases and the metabolic syndrome.Viruses triggering hepatitis depend tightly on the host cell synthesis machinery for their own replication,survival and spreading.Recent evidences support a link between the circadian clock circuitry and viruses’biological cycle within host cells.Currently,in vitro models for chronobiological studies of cells infected with viruses need to be implemented.The establishment of such in vitro models would be helpful to better understand the link between the clock gene machinery and viral replication/viral persistence in order to develop specifically targeted therapeutic regimens.Here we review the recent literature dealing with the interplay between hepatitis B and C viruses and clock genes.

文摘While carbon dioxide(CO_(2))is a major greenhouse gas,it is also an important C1 resource.In the trend of energy conservation and emission reduction,electrocatalytic reduction has become a very promising strategy for CO_(2)utilization because it can convert CO_(2)directly to high-valued chemicals and fuels under mild conditions.In particular,the product CO and by-product H_(2)can be combined into syngas by an electrocatalytic CO_(2)reduction reaction(CO_(2)RR)in an aqueous medium.Different molar ratios of CO and H_(2)may be used to produce essential bulk chemicals or liquid fuels such as methanol,alkanes,and olefins through thermochemical catalysis,Fischer-Tropsch synthesis,microbial fermentation,and other techniques.This work discusses the latest strategies in controlling the molar ratio of CO/H_(2)and improving the yield of CO_(2)RR-to-syngas.The challenges of electrocatalytic syngas production are analyzed from an industrial application perspective,and the possible measures to overcome them are proposed in terms of new catalyst design,electrolyte innovation,flow reactor optimization,anodic reaction coupling,and operando technique application.
文摘Hypnosis is a modified state of consciousness which showed its benefits to decrease different symptoms,mainly pain.During the last decade,this technique has also been proposed to adults with cancer to improve other symptoms,such as emotional distress,fatigue,or sleep difficulties.In pediatric oncology,hypnosis is also used to decrease disease-,treatment-,and procedure-related pain and anxiety.The learning of self-hypnosis and self-care techniques also improves the well-being of adults or children with cancer,their parents,and their siblings.Through several clinical cases,we will illustrate how hypnosis and self-care techniques have been implemented in the pediatric haemato-oncology department of the CHC MontLégia(Liège,Belgium)and will describe their benefits.
文摘Introduction to education is one of the basic courses in teacher education professional education, it covers a wide range of subjects. Thus, in order to practice the management teaching goals, the interdisciplinary developed mathematical tools are applied for the study. The participants of this study are students in course of introduction to education, and the research instruments applied are rough set, grey structural modeling (GSM), and matrix based-structural modeling (MSM). The purposes of this paper are: 1) To logically analyze educational datasets to practice the scientific traits in education;2) To benefit from directed hierarchical analysis to identify and propose action planning;3) To construct core-oriented educational structure as the criterion-reference for one-lesson-multiple-design and to provide the whole scope and visualized analysis with GSM and MSM.

文摘Rice (Oryza sativa) is sensitive to salinity, but the salt tolerance level differs among cultivars,which might result from natural variations in the genes that are responsible for salt tolerance. High-affinitypotassium transporter (HKTs) has been proven to be involved in salt tolerance in plants. Therefore, wescreened for natural nucleotide polymorphism in the coding sequence of OsHKT1, which encodes the HKTprotein in eight Vietnamese rice cultivars differing in salt tolerance level. In total, seven nucleotidesubstitutions in coding sequence of OsHKT1 were found, including two non-synonymous and five synonymoussubstitutions. Further analysis revealed that these two non-synonymous nucleotide substitutions (G50Tand T1209A) caused changes in amino acids (Gly17Val and Asp403Glu) at signal peptide and the loop ofthe sixth transmembrane domain, respectively. To assess the potential effect of these substitutions on theprotein function, the 3D structure of HKT protein variants was modelled by using PHYRE2 webserver. Theresults showed that no difference was observed when compared those predicted 3D structure of HKTprotein variants with each other. In addition, the codon bias of synonymous substitutions cannot clearlyshow correlation with salt tolerance level. It might be interesting to further investigate the functional roles ofdetected non-synonymous substitutions as it might correlate to salt tolerance in rice.
文摘Glycinebetaine(GB),an osmotic substance,could improve some stress tolerance in plants.CodA gene,originating from bacteria,could translate choline oxidase which stimulates the synthesis of GB in plants.To create lily lines resistant to heat,Belladonna lily and Yelloween lily had been transferred CodA gene through Agrobacterium tumefaciens.The bacteria harbored a binary vector carrying the hygromycin phosphotransferase,choline oxidase(CodA)and intron-containingβ-glucuronidase(Gus)genes were co-cultivated with lily bulb scales slides.The result showed that most the bulb scales had developed into bulblets in a regulator-free growth medium,while some expressed the hygromycin-resistance,heat tolerance and Gus gene expression.Among them,one line demonstrated primarily the transcription level expression through reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR).Moreover,they were tested with the accumulation of GB which was evident that the transferred line had four times of GB volumes higher than that of wild type.The original evidence could open a right approach to enhance stress tolerance in lily plants.
文摘BACKGROUND Muscle growth promoters are being developed for the treatment of diseaseinduced loss of muscle mass.Ligandrol and ostarine are selective androgen receptor modulators(SARMs)with a non-steroidal structure and a presumably more favorable side effect profile.In recent years,these substances with or without“post-cycle therapy”(PCT)are often misused by amateur athletes aiming to promote muscle growth.At the same time,reports on their toxic effects on organ systems are emerging.CASE SUMMARY We report two cases of liver injury in young men who used ligandrol and/or ostarine for a few weeks followed by the use of substances for PCT.Acute liver injury occurred in both cases after stopping SARMs while on PCT.The clinical picture was dominated by jaundice and fatigue.The biochemical pattern showed a mixed type of injury with normal alkaline phosphatase and high concentrations of bilirubin and serum bile acids. Histological evidence showed predominantlycholestatic injury with canalicular bile plugs, ductopenia, and mild hepatocellulardamage without significant fibrosis. The patients recovered from the conditionafter 3 mo. The off target effects of SARMs were likely idiosyncratic, but ourreport highlights the yet unrecognized effects of other toxic substances used forPCT, supra-therapeutic doses, and the complete absence of monitoring foradverse effects.CONCLUSIONAmong muscle-building amateur athletes, SARMs (ligandrol or ostarine) and/orsubstances in PCT may cause cholestatic liver injury with prolonged recovery.
