Objective In this study,we aimed to assess the characteristics of the P3 component from an event-related potential(ERP)that was induced by visual acuity(VA)processing.Furthermore,we sought to provide electrophysiologi...Objective In this study,we aimed to assess the characteristics of the P3 component from an event-related potential(ERP)that was induced by visual acuity(VA)processing.Furthermore,we sought to provide electrophysiological evidence for the objective evaluation of VA.Methods We recruited 32 participants with myopia-related ametropia.They reported no other ocular diseases and had an uncorrected VA of 4.0 in both eyes.We used the block letter“E”at different visual angles and orientations as the graphic stimuli.The oddball paradigm,consisting of 4 modules,was used for ERP analysis.The standard stimuli of each module were identical,with a visual angle of 1°15′.The visual angles of the target stimuli were 1°15′,55′,24′,and 15′.The VA test was performed on each eye separately for all participants,and all characteristics of the P3 component were analyzed.Results There was no significant difference in the P3 peak letencies between the target stimulation angle 1°15′group and the 55′group,or between the target stimulation angle 24′group and the 15′group.There was a significant difference in the P3 peak letencies between the target stimulation angle 1°15′group and the 24′group as well as the 15′group.There was a significant difference in the P3 peak letencies between the target stimulation angle 55′group and the 24′group as well as the 15′group.No significant differences were observed in the P3 amplitude between modules.Conclusion In the oddball paradigm,P3 elicitation indicated a cognitive response to the target stimuli.These data showed that the characteristics of P3 can be used as an objective evaluation of VA.展开更多

NAFLD includes a wide spectrum of liver conditions ranging from simple steatosis to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and advanced hepatic fibrosis. NAFLD has been recognized as a hepatic manifestation of metabolic syndrome linked with insulin resistance. NAFLD should be considered not only a liver specific disease but also an early mediator of systemic diseases. Therefore, NAFLD is usually associated with cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and dyslipidemia. NAFLD is highly prevalent in the general population and is associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The underlying mechanisms and pathogenesis of NAFLD with regard to other medical disorders are not yet fully understood. This review focuses on pathogenesis of NAFLD and its relation with other systemic diseases.展开更多

Transfection with empty pcDNA3.1 vector(SGC-pcDNA) served as control. Comparative protein profiles of the two groups were analyzed by two-dimensional electrophoresis basedproteomics(2 DE gel-based proteomics). The differential proteins identified by 2 DE were further validated by qRTPCR and immunoblotting. Finally, co-immunoprecipitation was used to determine any direct interactions between PDX1 and the differential proteins.RESULTS2 DE gel proteomics identified seven differential proteins in SGC-PDX1 when compared with those in SGC-pcDNA. These included four heat shock proteins(HSPs; HSP70 p1 B, HSP70 p8, HSP60, HSP27) and three other proteins(ER60, laminin receptor 1, similar to epsilon isoform of 14-3-3 protein). Immunoblotting validated the expression of the HSPs(HSP70, HSP60, HSP27). Furthermore, their expressions were lowered to 80%, 20% and 24%, respectively, in SGC-PDX1, while PDX1 exhibited a 9-fold increase, compared to SGC-pcDNA. However, qRT-PCR analysis revealed that mRNA levels of the HSP s were increased in SGC-PDX1, suggesting that the expression of the HSP s was post-translationally regulated by the PDX1 protein. Finally, co-immunoprecipitation failed to identify any direct interaction between PDX1 and HSP70 proteins.CONCLUSION This study demonstrates the potential involvement of HSPs in PDX1-mediated effects on the genesis of gastric cancer.展开更多

However,...Methamphetamine is an amphetamine-type psychostimulant that can damage dopaminergic neurons and cause characteristic pathological changes similar to neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease. However, its specific mechanism of action is still unclear. In the present study, we established a Parkinson's disease pathology model by exposing SH-SY5 Y cells and C57 BL/6 J mice to methamphetamine. In vitro experiments were performed with 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 or 2.5 mM methamphetamine for 24 hours or 2.0 mM methamphetamine for 0-, 2-, 4-, 8-, 16-, and 24-hour culture of SH-SY5 Y cells. Additional experimental groups of SH-SY5 Y cells were administered a nitric oxide inhibitor, 0.1 mM N-nitro-L-arginine, 1 hour before exposure to 2.0 mM methamphetamine for 24 hours. In vivo experiments: C57 BL/6 J mice were intraperitoneally injected with N-nitro-L-arginine(8 mg/kg), eight times, at intervals of 12 hours. Methamphetamine 15 mg/kg was intraperitoneally injected eight times, at intervals of 12 hours, but 0.5-hour after each N-nitro-L-arginine injection in the combined group. Western blot assay was used to determine the expression of nitric oxide synthase, α-synuclein(α-Syn), 5 G4, nitrated α-synuclein at the residue Tyr39(nT39 α-Syn), cleaved caspase-3, and cleaved poly ADP-ribose polymerase(PARP) in cells and mouse brain tissue. Immunofluorescence staining was conducted to measure the positive reaction of NeuN, nT39 α-Syn and 5 G4. Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay was performed to determine the dopamine levels in the mouse brain. After methamphetamine exposure, α-Syn expression increased; the aggregation of α-Syn 5 G4 increased; nT39 α-Syn, nitric oxide synthase, cleaved caspase-3, and cleaved PARP expression increased in the cultures of SH-SY5 Y cells and in the brains of C57 BL/6 J mice; and dopamine levels were reduced in the mouse brain. These changes were markedly reduced when N-nitro-L-arginine was administered with methamphetamine in both SH-SY5 Y cells and C57 BL/6 J mice. These results suggest that nT39 α-Syn aggregation is involved in methamphetamine neurotoxicity.展开更多

Due to the particular mode of inheritance, X-chromosomal X-STR has the advantage in female traces identification against male contamination and in complex kinship cases, such as deficiency cases (mother-son or father-daughter), grandparent-grandchild comparisons, half-sisters testing, etc. In this study, 4 blood samples from two paternity cases without father were examined with TYPER19 Amplification kit first, from the result, it is hard to judge the relationship between the mother-sons, then TYPERX19 kit was conducted to obtain the full profiles of the two pairs of the mother-son, from the genetypes of the samples, it can be inferred that neither of the two pairs of mother-son were in line with the kinship, which provides important evidence for the two paternity cases. All together, the X-chromosome marks included in the TYPERX19 kit can offer the possibility to solve complex kinship cases where autosomal STR markers cannot provide the information needed.展开更多

In the present study, α-synuclein knockdown rats were created by ...The over-expression of α-synuclein is a major factor in the death of dopaminergic neurons in a methamphetamine-induced model of Parkinson’s disease. In the present study, α-synuclein knockdown rats were created by injecting α-synuclein-shRNA lentivirus stereotaxically into the right striatum of experimental rats. At 2 weeks post-injection, the rats were injected intraper-itoneally with methamphetamine to establish the model of Parkinson’s disease. Expression of α-synuclein mRNA and protein in the right striatum of the injected rats was significantly down-regulated. Food intake and body weight were greater in α-synuclein knockdown rats, and water intake and stereotyped behavior score were lower than in model rats. Striatal dopamine and tyrosine hydroxylase levels were significantly elevated in α-synuclein knockdown rats. Moreover, superoxide dismutase activity was greater in α-synuclein knockdown rat striatum, but the levels of reactive oxygen species, malondialdehyde, nitric oxide synthase and nitrogen monoxide were lower compared with model rats. We also found that α-synuclein knockdown inhibited metham-phetamine-induced neuronal apoptosis. These results suggest that α-synuclein has the capacity to reverse methamphetamine-induced apoptosis of dopaminergic neurons in the rat striatum by inhibiting oxidative stress and improving dopaminergic system function.展开更多
The trade—off between protection and weight is a constant consideration when designing a portable protective solution.Greater mobility is a desirable attribute and protection must therefore adapt,prompting a demand f...The trade—off between protection and weight is a constant consideration when designing a portable protective solution.Greater mobility is a desirable attribute and protection must therefore adapt,prompting a demand for lightweight,simple to construct,low-cost and effective ballistic protection systems.High strength and ductility,wave spreading capability and good energy absorption are key properties for ballistic protection.Four materials,polycarbonate,Kevlar?-epoxy,polyurethane foam,and aluminium alloy,possess these properties and were selected for analysis by numerical simulation.Multilayered configurations were proven to be an optimal solution,by exploiting the advantages of each material without having large penalties of mass and cost.Numerical modelling using ANSYS AUTODYN?is used to simulate monolithic and multi-layered target configurations,to obtain the penetration mitigation performance.The results are analysed to select configurations based on different requirements,such as lowest cost,lowest mass,best performance,and optimal configuration which balanced the three key parameters mentioned.The optimal configuration of Aluminium,Kevlar-Epoxy,Polyurethane,and Polycarbonate has layers with thickness of 7,3,38,2 mm respectively with a total mass of 7.97 kg,total cost of$39.86 and penetration of 29.34%(14.67 mm).Polynomial relationships between performance and mass/cost are also determined.展开更多

Skin lesions are a very frequent reason for consultation in the paediatric age, being evaluated in most cases in primary care. Sometimes, patients need the intervention of other specialists to deep in a given area. The medical literature shows a fragmented view of the disease, possibly related to the low frequency of appearance of this syndrome, and by the need for intervention of not transversal knowledge specialist, which is why we feel interesting to evaluate the role of specialist who is developing the activity at primary care, with patients who require a multidisciplinary intervention.展开更多

Haplotypes and allele frequencies for the 17 Y-chromosomal STRs loci DYS456, DYS389I, DYS390, DYS389 II, DYS458, DYS19, DYS385a/b, DYS393, DYS391, DYS439, DYS635, DYS392, Y GATA H4, DYS437, DYS438 and DYS448 were determined in 500 healthy unrelated autochthonous males from Lanzhou. The results showed that no shared haplotypes were observed. Gene diversity values ranged from 0.3987 (DYS391) to 0.9740 (DYS385a,b). It was concluded that these loci will be very useful for human identification in forensic cases and paternity tests within the Han Chinese population inhabiting Lanzhou.展开更多

Methods The research was carried out following a case in which people were suspected to commit large numbers of burglaries. Fibres were applied to the vehicle of the suspects and collected from later crime scenes. A device was developed to assist in the appli- cation of fibres and a number of experiments on secondary transfer were carried out. Results The device can be used to apply many fibres homogeneously in a short time. A single contact will not fully deplete the first surface from flock fibres. 1%~15% of the fibres are transferred to the 3rd surface representing the crime scene. The actual number of transferred fibres is dependent on variables such as the choice of surfaces. Conclusion The results indicate that, given the selected parameters, it is realistic to expect that relatively large numbers of fibres are transferred to a crime scene and can be collected.展开更多
Objective:A diagnosis of drowning remains one of the most challenging issues in forensic science,especially for decomposed bodies.Diatom analysis is considered as an encouraging method for diagnosing drowning.In this ...Objective:A diagnosis of drowning remains one of the most challenging issues in forensic science,especially for decomposed bodies.Diatom analysis is considered as an encouraging method for diagnosing drowning.In this study,we developed a drowned rat model using different diatom densities in water.Methods:A total of 120 adult Sprague-Dawley rats were used and divided into six groups,wherein experimental groups 1-5 were drowned rats(group A)and postmortem submersion rats(group B)that were submerged in water with five different Cyclotella sp.diatom densities,while the remaining group was used as a blank control.The combination of microwave digestion and vacuum filtration method was used to accomplish efficient tissue digestion and ascertain higher accuracy of diatom determinations within organs.Results:The abundances of diatoms in the lungs,livers,and kidneys were significantly different.The diatom abundances in the lungs,livers,and kidneys were directly proportional to the water diatom densities,and specific quantitative relationships could be approximated by separate regression equations for each organ type.However,the trends associated with the diatom increases among organs slightly differed.In addition,the diatom abundances in the lungs,livers,and kidneys were all positively correlated.Diatoms were not observed in the postmortem submersion groups nor in the blank control groups.Conclusion:The results of this study provide valuable information for establishing a quantitative diatom framework for informing future forensic medicine efforts.展开更多
The organosulfur compound sulforaphane(SFN;C6H11NOS2)is a potent cytoprotective agent promoting antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,antiglycative,and antimicrobial effects in in vitro and in vivo experimental models.Mitocho...The organosulfur compound sulforaphane(SFN;C6H11NOS2)is a potent cytoprotective agent promoting antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,antiglycative,and antimicrobial effects in in vitro and in vivo experimental models.Mitochondria are the major site of adenosine triphosphate(ATP)production due to the work of the oxidative phosphorylation(OXPHOS)system.They are also the main site of reactive oxygen species(ROS)production in nucleated human cells.Mitochondrial impairment is central in several human diseases,including neurodegeneration and metabolic disorders.In this paper,we describe and discuss the effects and mechanisms of action by which SFN modulates mitochondrial function and dynamics in mammalian cells.Mitochondria-related pro-apoptotic effects promoted by SFN in tumor cells are also discussed.SFN may be considered a cytoprotective agent,at least in part,because of the effects this organosulfur agent induces in mitochondria.Nonetheless,there are certain points that should be addressed in further experiments,indicated here as future directions,which may help researchers in this field of research.展开更多
The Bleve is an explosion involving both the rapid vaporization of liquid and the rapid expansion of vapor in a vessel.The loss of containment results in a large fireball if the stored chemical is flammable.In order t...The Bleve is an explosion involving both the rapid vaporization of liquid and the rapid expansion of vapor in a vessel.The loss of containment results in a large fireball if the stored chemical is flammable.In order to predict the damage generated by a Bleve,several authors propose analytical or semi-empirical correlations,which consist in predicting the diameter and the lifetime of the fireballs according to the quantity of fuel.These models are based on previous experience,which makes their validity arbitrary in relation to the initial conditions and the nature of the product concerned.The article delves into uncertainty analysis associated with analytical and semi-empirical models of the BLEVE fireball.It could explore how uncertainties in input data,and the choice of a more or less inappropriate model,propagate into the model results.Statistical techniques such as global sensitivity analysis or uncertainty analysis are employed to quantify these uncertainties.In this paper,an attempt is made to evaluate and select reasonable models available in the literature for characterizing fireballs and their consequences.Correlations were analyzed using statistical methods and BLEVE data(experimental and estimated data by correlation)to determine the residual sum of squares(RSS)and average absolute deviation(AAD).Analysis revealed that the Center for Chemical Process Safety(CCPS),the TNO(Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research),and the Gayle model revealed a high degree of satisfaction between the experimental and estimated data through correlation.展开更多

文摘Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) is the most common cause of chronic liver disease. NAFLD includes a wide spectrum of liver conditions ranging from simple steatosis to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and advanced hepatic fibrosis. NAFLD has been recognized as a hepatic manifestation of metabolic syndrome linked with insulin resistance. NAFLD should be considered not only a liver specific disease but also an early mediator of systemic diseases. Therefore, NAFLD is usually associated with cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and dyslipidemia. NAFLD is highly prevalent in the general population and is associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The underlying mechanisms and pathogenesis of NAFLD with regard to other medical disorders are not yet fully understood. This review focuses on pathogenesis of NAFLD and its relation with other systemic diseases.

文摘AIM To identify functional proteins involved in pancreaticduodenal homeobox-1(PDX1)-mediated effects on gastric carcinogenesis.METHODS A PDX1-overexpressed model was established by transfecting gastric cancer cell line SGC7901 with pcDNA3.1(+)-PDX1 vector(SGC-PDX1). Transfection with empty pcDNA3.1 vector(SGC-pcDNA) served as control. Comparative protein profiles of the two groups were analyzed by two-dimensional electrophoresis basedproteomics(2 DE gel-based proteomics). The differential proteins identified by 2 DE were further validated by qRTPCR and immunoblotting. Finally, co-immunoprecipitation was used to determine any direct interactions between PDX1 and the differential proteins.RESULTS2 DE gel proteomics identified seven differential proteins in SGC-PDX1 when compared with those in SGC-pcDNA. These included four heat shock proteins(HSPs; HSP70 p1 B, HSP70 p8, HSP60, HSP27) and three other proteins(ER60, laminin receptor 1, similar to epsilon isoform of 14-3-3 protein). Immunoblotting validated the expression of the HSPs(HSP70, HSP60, HSP27). Furthermore, their expressions were lowered to 80%, 20% and 24%, respectively, in SGC-PDX1, while PDX1 exhibited a 9-fold increase, compared to SGC-pcDNA. However, qRT-PCR analysis revealed that mRNA levels of the HSP s were increased in SGC-PDX1, suggesting that the expression of the HSP s was post-translationally regulated by the PDX1 protein. Finally, co-immunoprecipitation failed to identify any direct interaction between PDX1 and HSP70 proteins.CONCLUSION This study demonstrates the potential involvement of HSPs in PDX1-mediated effects on the genesis of gastric cancer.

文摘Molecular imprinting technology is applied in surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy for highly sensitive and selective detection of morphine(MO).As SPR-based sensor of MO,the preparation of molecular imprinted polymer is as follows: methacryhc acids(MAA),ethylene glycol dimethacrylate(EGDMA),azodiisobutyronitrile(AIBN) were used as functional monomer,cross-linker and initiator,respectively.The experiment results showed that morphine imprinted polymer had the performance of high sensitivity and specificity,i.e.the relative signal of SPR response was proportional to the concentration of morphine in acetonitrile in the range of 10^(-9)mol/L to 10^(-6)mol/L(1 ppb-1 ppm) with LOD of 10^(-10)mol/L,and MO was distinguished from its analogs,such as codeine.

文摘Methamphetamine is an amphetamine-type psychostimulant that can damage dopaminergic neurons and cause characteristic pathological changes similar to neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease. However, its specific mechanism of action is still unclear. In the present study, we established a Parkinson's disease pathology model by exposing SH-SY5 Y cells and C57 BL/6 J mice to methamphetamine. In vitro experiments were performed with 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 or 2.5 mM methamphetamine for 24 hours or 2.0 mM methamphetamine for 0-, 2-, 4-, 8-, 16-, and 24-hour culture of SH-SY5 Y cells. Additional experimental groups of SH-SY5 Y cells were administered a nitric oxide inhibitor, 0.1 mM N-nitro-L-arginine, 1 hour before exposure to 2.0 mM methamphetamine for 24 hours. In vivo experiments: C57 BL/6 J mice were intraperitoneally injected with N-nitro-L-arginine(8 mg/kg), eight times, at intervals of 12 hours. Methamphetamine 15 mg/kg was intraperitoneally injected eight times, at intervals of 12 hours, but 0.5-hour after each N-nitro-L-arginine injection in the combined group. Western blot assay was used to determine the expression of nitric oxide synthase, α-synuclein(α-Syn), 5 G4, nitrated α-synuclein at the residue Tyr39(nT39 α-Syn), cleaved caspase-3, and cleaved poly ADP-ribose polymerase(PARP) in cells and mouse brain tissue. Immunofluorescence staining was conducted to measure the positive reaction of NeuN, nT39 α-Syn and 5 G4. Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay was performed to determine the dopamine levels in the mouse brain. After methamphetamine exposure, α-Syn expression increased; the aggregation of α-Syn 5 G4 increased; nT39 α-Syn, nitric oxide synthase, cleaved caspase-3, and cleaved PARP expression increased in the cultures of SH-SY5 Y cells and in the brains of C57 BL/6 J mice; and dopamine levels were reduced in the mouse brain. These changes were markedly reduced when N-nitro-L-arginine was administered with methamphetamine in both SH-SY5 Y cells and C57 BL/6 J mice. These results suggest that nT39 α-Syn aggregation is involved in methamphetamine neurotoxicity.

文摘The usefulness of the X-chromosomal STRs (short tandem repeats) for forensic purposes seems to be restricted, but may be valuable in some paternity cases. Due to the particular mode of inheritance, X-chromosomal X-STR has the advantage in female traces identification against male contamination and in complex kinship cases, such as deficiency cases (mother-son or father-daughter), grandparent-grandchild comparisons, half-sisters testing, etc. In this study, 4 blood samples from two paternity cases without father were examined with TYPER19 Amplification kit first, from the result, it is hard to judge the relationship between the mother-sons, then TYPERX19 kit was conducted to obtain the full profiles of the two pairs of the mother-son, from the genetypes of the samples, it can be inferred that neither of the two pairs of mother-son were in line with the kinship, which provides important evidence for the two paternity cases. All together, the X-chromosome marks included in the TYPERX19 kit can offer the possibility to solve complex kinship cases where autosomal STR markers cannot provide the information needed.

文摘The over-expression of α-synuclein is a major factor in the death of dopaminergic neurons in a methamphetamine-induced model of Parkinson’s disease. In the present study, α-synuclein knockdown rats were created by injecting α-synuclein-shRNA lentivirus stereotaxically into the right striatum of experimental rats. At 2 weeks post-injection, the rats were injected intraper-itoneally with methamphetamine to establish the model of Parkinson’s disease. Expression of α-synuclein mRNA and protein in the right striatum of the injected rats was significantly down-regulated. Food intake and body weight were greater in α-synuclein knockdown rats, and water intake and stereotyped behavior score were lower than in model rats. Striatal dopamine and tyrosine hydroxylase levels were significantly elevated in α-synuclein knockdown rats. Moreover, superoxide dismutase activity was greater in α-synuclein knockdown rat striatum, but the levels of reactive oxygen species, malondialdehyde, nitric oxide synthase and nitrogen monoxide were lower compared with model rats. We also found that α-synuclein knockdown inhibited metham-phetamine-induced neuronal apoptosis. These results suggest that α-synuclein has the capacity to reverse methamphetamine-induced apoptosis of dopaminergic neurons in the rat striatum by inhibiting oxidative stress and improving dopaminergic system function.
文摘The trade—off between protection and weight is a constant consideration when designing a portable protective solution.Greater mobility is a desirable attribute and protection must therefore adapt,prompting a demand for lightweight,simple to construct,low-cost and effective ballistic protection systems.High strength and ductility,wave spreading capability and good energy absorption are key properties for ballistic protection.Four materials,polycarbonate,Kevlar?-epoxy,polyurethane foam,and aluminium alloy,possess these properties and were selected for analysis by numerical simulation.Multilayered configurations were proven to be an optimal solution,by exploiting the advantages of each material without having large penalties of mass and cost.Numerical modelling using ANSYS AUTODYN?is used to simulate monolithic and multi-layered target configurations,to obtain the penetration mitigation performance.The results are analysed to select configurations based on different requirements,such as lowest cost,lowest mass,best performance,and optimal configuration which balanced the three key parameters mentioned.The optimal configuration of Aluminium,Kevlar-Epoxy,Polyurethane,and Polycarbonate has layers with thickness of 7,3,38,2 mm respectively with a total mass of 7.97 kg,total cost of$39.86 and penetration of 29.34%(14.67 mm).Polynomial relationships between performance and mass/cost are also determined.
文摘The nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome is an autosomal dominant inherited disease, associated with PTCH gene mutation. Its presentation is polymorphous, being frequent to appear the clinical triad carcinomas basal cell, odontogenic cysts and skeletal abnormalities. Skin lesions are a very frequent reason for consultation in the paediatric age, being evaluated in most cases in primary care. Sometimes, patients need the intervention of other specialists to deep in a given area. The medical literature shows a fragmented view of the disease, possibly related to the low frequency of appearance of this syndrome, and by the need for intervention of not transversal knowledge specialist, which is why we feel interesting to evaluate the role of specialist who is developing the activity at primary care, with patients who require a multidisciplinary intervention.

文摘The genetic polymorphism across 17 Y-STR loci in a population of Hart Chinese in Lanzhou was investigated. Haplotypes and allele frequencies for the 17 Y-chromosomal STRs loci DYS456, DYS389I, DYS390, DYS389 II, DYS458, DYS19, DYS385a/b, DYS393, DYS391, DYS439, DYS635, DYS392, Y GATA H4, DYS437, DYS438 and DYS448 were determined in 500 healthy unrelated autochthonous males from Lanzhou. The results showed that no shared haplotypes were observed. Gene diversity values ranged from 0.3987 (DYS391) to 0.9740 (DYS385a,b). It was concluded that these loci will be very useful for human identification in forensic cases and paternity tests within the Han Chinese population inhabiting Lanzhou.
文摘Objective Flock fibres are proposed as a tracer in cases where secondary transfer of the tracer is needed. Methods The research was carried out following a case in which people were suspected to commit large numbers of burglaries. Fibres were applied to the vehicle of the suspects and collected from later crime scenes. A device was developed to assist in the appli- cation of fibres and a number of experiments on secondary transfer were carried out. Results The device can be used to apply many fibres homogeneously in a short time. A single contact will not fully deplete the first surface from flock fibres. 1%~15% of the fibres are transferred to the 3rd surface representing the crime scene. The actual number of transferred fibres is dependent on variables such as the choice of surfaces. Conclusion The results indicate that, given the selected parameters, it is realistic to expect that relatively large numbers of fibres are transferred to a crime scene and can be collected.

文摘Objective:A diagnosis of drowning remains one of the most challenging issues in forensic science,especially for decomposed bodies.Diatom analysis is considered as an encouraging method for diagnosing drowning.In this study,we developed a drowned rat model using different diatom densities in water.Methods:A total of 120 adult Sprague-Dawley rats were used and divided into six groups,wherein experimental groups 1-5 were drowned rats(group A)and postmortem submersion rats(group B)that were submerged in water with five different Cyclotella sp.diatom densities,while the remaining group was used as a blank control.The combination of microwave digestion and vacuum filtration method was used to accomplish efficient tissue digestion and ascertain higher accuracy of diatom determinations within organs.Results:The abundances of diatoms in the lungs,livers,and kidneys were significantly different.The diatom abundances in the lungs,livers,and kidneys were directly proportional to the water diatom densities,and specific quantitative relationships could be approximated by separate regression equations for each organ type.However,the trends associated with the diatom increases among organs slightly differed.In addition,the diatom abundances in the lungs,livers,and kidneys were all positively correlated.Diatoms were not observed in the postmortem submersion groups nor in the blank control groups.Conclusion:The results of this study provide valuable information for establishing a quantitative diatom framework for informing future forensic medicine efforts.

文摘The organosulfur compound sulforaphane(SFN;C6H11NOS2)is a potent cytoprotective agent promoting antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,antiglycative,and antimicrobial effects in in vitro and in vivo experimental models.Mitochondria are the major site of adenosine triphosphate(ATP)production due to the work of the oxidative phosphorylation(OXPHOS)system.They are also the main site of reactive oxygen species(ROS)production in nucleated human cells.Mitochondrial impairment is central in several human diseases,including neurodegeneration and metabolic disorders.In this paper,we describe and discuss the effects and mechanisms of action by which SFN modulates mitochondrial function and dynamics in mammalian cells.Mitochondria-related pro-apoptotic effects promoted by SFN in tumor cells are also discussed.SFN may be considered a cytoprotective agent,at least in part,because of the effects this organosulfur agent induces in mitochondria.Nonetheless,there are certain points that should be addressed in further experiments,indicated here as future directions,which may help researchers in this field of research.
文摘The Bleve is an explosion involving both the rapid vaporization of liquid and the rapid expansion of vapor in a vessel.The loss of containment results in a large fireball if the stored chemical is flammable.In order to predict the damage generated by a Bleve,several authors propose analytical or semi-empirical correlations,which consist in predicting the diameter and the lifetime of the fireballs according to the quantity of fuel.These models are based on previous experience,which makes their validity arbitrary in relation to the initial conditions and the nature of the product concerned.The article delves into uncertainty analysis associated with analytical and semi-empirical models of the BLEVE fireball.It could explore how uncertainties in input data,and the choice of a more or less inappropriate model,propagate into the model results.Statistical techniques such as global sensitivity analysis or uncertainty analysis are employed to quantify these uncertainties.In this paper,an attempt is made to evaluate and select reasonable models available in the literature for characterizing fireballs and their consequences.Correlations were analyzed using statistical methods and BLEVE data(experimental and estimated data by correlation)to determine the residual sum of squares(RSS)and average absolute deviation(AAD).Analysis revealed that the Center for Chemical Process Safety(CCPS),the TNO(Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research),and the Gayle model revealed a high degree of satisfaction between the experimental and estimated data through correlation.
