A Mixed-Methods Analysis of Systemic Factors Affecting the Integration into Rice Straw Supply Chains in Thailand

Rice straw,a by-product of rice cultivation,is commonly disposed of through open-field burning,which contributes to air pollution and environmental degradation.This study aims to identify the key factors influencing farmers’decisions on rice straw management and to develop policy recommendations that encourage the sustainable utilization of rice straw within the supply chain.A mixed-methods approach was adopted,combining qualitative interviews with nine key informants and a quantitative survey of 585 rice farmers across Thailand.Multinomial Logit Regression(MLR)was employed to analyze farmers’preferences among four management options:burning,composting,animal feeding,and selling.The results reveal that membership in farmer groups,ownership of livestock,access to baling machinery,knowledge,and skills related to straw utilization,ease of field access,availability of storage facilities,engagement in integrated farming,and year-round access to baling services significantly increased the likelihood of choosing sustainable alternatives over the burning straw.These findings underscore the importance of both capacity-building and infrastructure in enabling sustainable practices.Based on these insights,the study proposes a multi-level policy framework to enhance the value creation of rice straw.National policies should focus on expanding access to machinery and supporting innovation,while local governments should facilitate farmer training and improve straw logistics.Strengthening farmer organizations and market connections is also crucial for scaling adoption.Overall,structural integration and stakeholder coordination are key to reducing straw burning and promoting sustainable resource use in rice-producing regions. 展开更多

The objective of traffic accident reconstruction is to recreate the event, which is necessary for analyzing the collision dynamics that is used as evidence in court cases. Traffic accident reconstruction and a demonstration of the event require precise data pertaining to scene measurement. However, there are differences between the individual measuring tools and methods related to traffic accident investigation, just as there are differences between the extent of their use and measurement accuracy. The most commonly applied method is the measuring tape, followed by measurements with total stations and laser rangefinders, while photogrammetry is also becoming increasingly important. The advantages and disadvantages of individual tools and methods affect the required number of investigators, portability, measurement range, applicability depending on the amount of light and weather conditions, on the possibility of remote measurement, on data collection time, on the scope, on the option to later process, the collected data and above all on the accuracy of all gathered data. The latter is crucial for proving the guilt or innocence of traffic accident participants at court, as inaccurate data can lead to an unjust sentence. Measurement accuracy using the above mentioned tools and methods also varies depending on which ones are used, as well as on other factors. 展开更多

ESG(Environment,Society,Governance)management is being applied in the world’s industries,including ports,to enhance sustainable development.For the port sector,the world’s ports have increasingly adopted policies to drive ESG projects in alignment with sustainable port development goals.This research aims to identify port sustainability indicators and analyze the interrelationship among ESG dimensions related to the port environment,port society,and port governance.Qualitative and quantitative methods are employed to identify port management indicators that affect the operation of cargo ports,utilizing a systematic document analysis tool.A wide range of academic and institutional sources was reviewed to ensure the comprehensive identification of relevant indicators.The finding indicates that twenty-nine port sustainability indicators affect port sustainability management,including the nine indicators of environmental port,the nine indicators of social port,and the eleven indicators of governance port.These critical indicators reflect both global best practices and context-specific needs,and they play a central role in managing the port’s sustainability and guiding control strategies for improving competitiveness and compliance with international standards.Based on these findings,a port sustainability framework was developed as a practical operational tool to evaluate port performance,guide decision-making,and align port operations with Thailand’s national policies and global sustainability standards.This framework also provides a foundation for future empirical validation and offers practical implications for policymakers and port stakeholders. 展开更多
