Exploring the potential carbon emissions and net-zero path of international flights:A case study in Macao

With the rapid development of aviation industry and its increasing impact on the global climate change,the contributions of carbon emissions frominternational flights are attracting more and more attention worldwide.T... With the rapid development of aviation industry and its increasing impact on the global climate change,the contributions of carbon emissions frominternational flights are attracting more and more attention worldwide.This study,taking Macao as the aviation hub,established the cross-border aviation carbon emission evaluation model to explore dynamic carbon emissions and net-zero path of international flights.The aviation hubmainly covers 58 routes and five types of civil aircraft from 12 countries or regions during 2000-2022.The results show that the aviation transportation in Macao emitted about 1.44 million tons CO_(2)eq in 2019,which is high 3.6 times that of 2000.The COVID-19 has led to a rapid decline in aviation carbon emissions in a short period of time,carbon emissions in 2020 decreased by 80%compared to 2019.In terms of cumulative carbon emissions from 2000 to 2019,the A321 and A320 Airbus contribute to 80%of carbon emissions.And the Chinese mainland(37%)and Taiwan(29%)are the main sources of emissions.In 2000-2019,the proportion of carbon emissions from China(including Taiwan and Hong Kong)decrease from 91%to 53%,while the contribution from Southeast Asia(from 5% to 26%),Japan and South Korea(from 2% to 19%)keep the growth trends.In the optimal scenario(B3C3),net zero emissions of cross-border aviation in Macao can be not achieved,and there is still only by removing 0.3 million tons CO_(2)eq.Emission reduction technology and new energy usage are priorities for the aviation emission reduction. 展开更多

Elucidating Forsythin’s Anti-Inflammatory Action Through Modulation of the P38 MAPK Pathway in SARS-CoV-2 Infection

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection disrupts immune function by activating inflammatory pathways related to disease severity.Understanding virus-induced inflammation is crucial for developing anti-coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)therapies.This study used principal component analysis,heatmaps,and other tools to examine mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)pathway gene expression,and found that alterations in MAPK pathway genes were correlated with immune response changes.Further analysis linked P38-related gene expression to clinical symptoms,with transcriptomic data showing a strong association between MAPK gene expression changes and SARS-CoV-2 infection.In infected cell models,phosphorylated P38(P-P38)protein and inflammatory factors were significantly upregulated.Analysis of the GSE217948 dataset showed a significant correlation between plasma markers(interferon inducible protein-10(IP-10)and interleukin(IL)-6)and symptoms(fever and fatigue).Activation of P38 appears to release inflammatory factors tied to these symptoms making P38 as a key pathway in virus-induced inflammation.Forsythin(KD-1),an anti-inflammatory compound from forsythia showed efficacy against SARS-CoV-2,inhibiting replication,reducing P38 levels,and lowering inflammatory markers(IL-6,IL-8,IP-10,tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),and monocyte chemotactic protein-1(MCP-1))in both cell and animal models.In specific cell models,KD-1 blocked P38 activation,thereby reducing inflammation.In a P38 overexpression model,KD-1 decreased P38 phosphorylation and downstream inflammatory proteins.This study identifies the P38 pathway as a therapeutic target for COVID-19,supporting KD-1’s potential in mitigating virus-induced inflammation and guiding further research into anti-inflammatory treatments for respiratory viruses. 展开更多

The dissolvable polysulfides and sluggish Li_2S conversion kinetics are acknowledged as two significant challenges in the application lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries.Herein,we introduce a dual-doping strategy to modulate the electronic structure of MoS_(2),thereby obtaining a multifunctional catalyst that serves as an efficient sulfur host.The W/V dual single-atomdoped MoS_(2)grown on carbon nanofibers(CMWVS)demonstrates a strong adsorption ability for lithium polysulfides,suppressing the shuttle effects.Additionally,the doping process also results in the phase transition from 2H-MoS_(2)to 1T-MoS_(2)and generates sufficient edge sulfur atoms,promoting the charge/electron transfer and enriching the reaction sites.All these merits contribute to the superior conversion reaction kinetics,leading to the outstanding Li-S battery performance.When fabricated as cathodes by compositing with sulfur,the CMWVS/S cathode delivers a high capacity of 1481.7 mAh g^(-1)at 0.1 C(1 C=1672 mAh g^(-1))and maintains 816.3 m Ah g^(-1)after 1000 cycles at 1.0 C,indicating outstanding cycling stability.Even under a high sulfur loading of 7.9 mg cm^(-2)and lean electrolyte conditions(E/S ratio of 9.0μL mg^(-1)),the cathode achieves a high areal capacity of 8.2 m Ah cm^(-2),showing great promise for practical Li-S battery applications.This work broadens the scope of doping strategies in transition-metal dichalcogenides by tailoring their electronic structures,providing insightful direction for the rational development of high-efficiency electrocatalysts for advanced Li-S battery applications. 展开更多

Flexible and wearable sensors offer immense potential for rehabilitation medicine,but most rely solely on electrical signals,lacking real-time visual feedback and limiting trainee's interactivity.Inspired by the structural coloration of Cyanocitta stelleri feathers,we developed a dual-mode sensor by utilizing black conductive polymer hydrogel(CPH)-enhanced structural color strategy.This sensor integrates a hydroxypropyl cellulose(HPC)-based structural color interface with a designed CPH sensing component.Highly visible light-absorbing CPH(absorption rate>88%)serves as the critical substrate for enhancing structural color performance.By absorbing incoherent scattered light and suppressing background interference,it significantly enhances the saturation of structural color,thereby achieving a high contrast index of 4.92.Unlike the faint and hardly visible structural colors on non-black substrates,the HPC on CPH displays vivid,highly perceptible colors and desirable mechanochromic behavior.Moreover,the CPH acts as a flexible sensing element,fortified by hydrogen and coordination bond networks,and exhibits exceptional electromechanical properties,including 867.1 kPa tensile strength,strain sensitivity(gauge factor of 4.24),and outstanding durability(over 4400 cycles).Compared to traditional single-mode sensors,the integrated sensor provides real-time visual and digital dual feedback,enhancing the accuracy and interactivity of rehabilitation assessments.This technology holds promise for advancing next-generation rehabilitation medicine. 展开更多

With the rapid development of information technologies such as digital twin, extended reality, and blockchain,the hype around "metaverse" is increasing at astronomical speed. However, much attention has been paid to its entertainment and social functions. Considering the openness and interoperability of metaverses, the market of quality inspection promises explosive growth. In this paper, taking advantage of metaverses, we first propose the concept of Automated Quality Inspection(Auto QI), which performs integrated inspection covering the entire manufacturing process, including Quality of Materials, Quality of Manufacturing(Qo M), Quality of Products, Quality of Processes(Qo P), Quality of Systems, and Quality of Services(Qo S). Based on the scenarios engineering theory, we discuss how to perform interactions between metaverses and the physical world for virtual design instruction and physical validation feedback. Then we introduce a bottomup inspection device development workflow with productivity tools offered by metaverses, making development more effective and efficient than ever. As the core of quality inspection,we propose Quality Transformers to complete detection task,while federated learning is integrated to regulate data sharing.In summary, we point out the development directions of quality inspection under metaverse tide. 展开更多

The attention is a scarce resource in decentralized autonomous organizations(DAOs),as their self-governance relies heavily on the attention-intensive decision-making process of“proposal and voting”.To prevent the negative effects of pro-posers’attention-capturing strategies that contribute to the“tragedy of the commons”and ensure an efficient distribution of attention among multiple proposals,it is necessary to establish a market-driven allocation scheme for DAOs’attention.First,the Harberger tax-based attention markets are designed to facilitate its allocation via continuous and automated trading,where the individualized Harberger tax rate(HTR)determined by the pro-posers’reputation is adopted.Then,the Stackelberg game model is formulated in these markets,casting attention to owners in the role of leaders and other competitive proposers as followers.Its equilibrium trading strategies are also discussed to unravel the intricate dynamics of attention pricing.Moreover,utilizing the single-round Stackelberg game as an illustrative example,the existence of Nash equilibrium trading strategies is demonstrated.Finally,the impact of individualized HTR on trading strategies is investigated,and results suggest that it has a negative correlation with leaders’self-accessed prices and ownership duration,but its effect on their revenues varies under different conditions.This study is expected to provide valuable insights into leveraging attention resources to improve DAOs’governance and decision-making process. 展开更多

Different from the traditional railway trains,the combined levitation and guidance EDS maglev train is more likely to rotate after being disturbed.Therefore,the rotational electromagnetic stiffnesses are significant operating parameters for the train.In this paper,the different effects of each translational offset generated in the rotational motion on the corresponding rotational electromagnetic stiffnesses in the EDS maglev train are analyzed and calculated.Firstly,a three-dimensional model of the maglev train is established.Then,based on the space harmonic method and the equivalent circuit of the levitation and guidance circuits,the formulas of rolling,pitching and yawing stiffness are presented.Finally,by comparing with the three-dimensional finite element simulation results,the key translational displacements in the rotational motion which has a great impact on the stiffness are obtained.Hence,the three-dimensional analytical formula can be simplified and the computation can be reduced.In addition,the accuracy of the calculation results is verified by comparing with the experimental data of Yamanashi test line. 展开更多

Dynamic stability analysis of superconducting electro-dynamic maglev train under lateral and yawing motion condition is the key research content.The novel three-dimensional electromagnetic model of integrated linear synchronous motor in electro-dynamic maglev train with yawing operation condition is proposed,which can not only simultaneously achieve the propulsion,levitation and guidance performances of maglev vehicle,but also analyze the dynamic stability performance of train with yawing condition.The three-dimensional analytical method is introduced for analyzing the electromagnetic force characteristics of the linear synchronous motor with the yawing operation condition.Firstly,the topology structure and operation principle of the linear synchronous motor with yawing attitude are proposed.Secondly,the three-dimensional analytical model and expressions of electromagnetic characteristics are obtained by equivalent circuit method and Fourier decomposition method,such as levitation force,guidance force,propulsion force and yawing torque,etc.Finally,the three-dimensional electromagnetic characteristics of the linear synchronous motor are calculated under yawing operation conditions of maglev train,and the correctness of the analytical theory is verified by the finite element analysis and measured data on the test line. 展开更多

A high humidity-resistant,dual mechanical responsive,and reversible mechanochromic wrinkling system based on a VHB 4910-polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)substrate with a thin film consisting of 90 wt%poly(vinyl butyral)(PVB)and 10 wt%hydroxypropyl cellulose(HPC)has been reported.The wrinkling system exhibited significant optical tuning from transparent to opaque states with 50%changes in transmittance,which was achieved through the dual mechanical modes of pre-stretching and releasing processes or bending.Upon exposure to ethanol vapor or a re-flattening process,wrinkles can be erased,yielding a transparent state.Consequently,the wrinkling system could be reversibly switched between transparency and opacity for 1000 cycles with marginal changes in the optical performance.Owing to the insolubility of PVB in water,the wrinkling patterns exhibited excellent durability in high-humidity environments(relative humidity(RH)=99%).Furthermore,the smart encryption device is also demonstrated via mechano-controlled surface topography by patterning the wrinkling system,suggesting potential applications of the designed structure in smart windows,anti-counterfeiting,dynamic display,optical information encryption,and rewritable surfaces. 展开更多

NH_(4)V_(4)O_(10)(NVO)as a cathode material of zincion battery is prone to collapse in the repeated process of embedding and de-embedding of Zn^(2+),and its application is limited by the instability of the material.Here,calciumdoped ammonium vanadate(CNVO)is successfully synthesized via a one-step hydrothermal approach.The intercalated Ca2+in NVO serves as a firm pillar between the[VO_n]layers to maintain the structure stability during the ion insertion/extraction process.Furthermore,density functional theory(DFT)calculations and ex situ experiments reveal that CNVO demonstrates higher affinity and conductivity compared to NVO,which can effectively improve the kinetics of Zn^(2+)diffusion,reduce the electrostatic repulsion of Zn^(2+)during intercalation and deintercalation,and maintaining the stability of the layered structure.As a result,the CNVO material demonstrates outstanding electrochemical performance,delivering a specific capacity of 183 m Ah·g^(-1)at 5 A·g^(-1).Moreover,it sustains an impressive 91%capacity retention after 1300 cycles. 展开更多

This paper introduces federated services as a smart service ecology with federated security to align distributed data supply with diversified service demands spanning digital and societal contexts.It presents the comprehensive researches on the theoretical foundation and technical system of federated services,aiming at advancing our understanding and implementation of this novel service paradigm.First,a thorough examination of the characteristics of federated security within federated services is conducted.Then,a five-layer technical framework is formulated under a decentralized intelligent architecture,ensuring secure,agile,and adaptable service provision.On this basis,the operational mechanisms underlying data federation and service confederation is analyzed,with emphasis on the smart supply-demand matching model.Furthermore,a scenario-oriented taxonomy of federated services accompanied by illustrative examples is proposed.Our work offers actionable insights and roadmap for realizing and advancing federated services,contributing to the refinement and wider adoption of this transformative service paradigm in the digital era. 展开更多
