The indoor air quality and thermal comfort were measured at various selected locations by using indoor air quality equipment (Thermal Comfort SERI). The thermal comfort assessments are based on Malaysian Code of Practice Indoor Air Quality 2005 and Moderate Thermal Environments-Determination of the PMV and PPD indices specification of the condition for thermal comfort (ISO7730:1994) From the data analysis, the FKAB building is considered inadequately vented space. The concentration of CO2 for all sampling area evaluated exceeds the recommended concentration (〉 1000 ppm). The ventilation system used in FKAB building is designed by delivering fix amount of fresh air into building from external building without consideration on the number of occupants. This common ventilation design will increase the amount of CO2 dramatically all day long and these reflect the inefficiency of energy used. The faculty needs to be equipped with a comprehensive energy management system that can allow detailed documentation of continuous performance of all energy system and consumption in the building.展开更多

Using a high-resolution UAV with a 20 MP (MegaPixels) sensor, four images of a brick wall test field were captured and processed in Agisoft Metashape, with resolutions compared against Leica T2002 theodolite measurements (1.0 mm accuracy). Advanced statistical methods (ANOVA (analysis of variance), Tukey tests, Monte Carlo simulations) and ground control points validated the results. Accuracy improved from 25 mm at 50 PPI to 5 mm at 150 PPI (p < 0.01), plateauing at 4 mm beyond 200 PPI, while 150 PPI reduced processing time by 62% compared to 300 PPI. Unlike prior studies, this research uniquely isolates resolution effects in a controlled civil engineering context, offering a novel 150 PPI threshold that balances precision and efficiency. This threshold supports Saudi Vision 2030’s smart infrastructure goals for megaprojects like NEOM, providing a scalable framework for global applications. Future research should leverage deep learning to optimize resolutions in dynamic environments.展开更多

文摘Cardiac tissue engineering aims to efficiently replace or repair injured heart tissue using scaffolds, relevant cells,or their combination. While the combination of scaffolds and relevant cells holds the potential to rapidly remuscularize the heart, thereby avoiding the slow process of cell recruitment, the proper ex vivo cellularization of a scaffold poses a substantial challenge.First, proper diffusion of nutrients and oxygen should be provided to the cell-seeded scaffold.Second,to generate a functional tissue construct, cells can benefit from physiological-like conditions. To meet these challenges,we developed a modular bioreactor for the dynamic cellularization of full-thickness cardiac scaffolds under synchronized mechanical and electrical stimuli. In this unique bioreactor system,we designed a cyclic mechanical load that mimics the left ventricle volume inflation, thus achieving a steady stimulus,as well as an electrical stimulus with an action potential profile to mirror the cells’microenvironment and electrical stimuli in the heart. These mechanical and electrical stimuli were synchronized according to cardiac physiology and regulated by constant feedback. When applied to a seeded thick porcine cardiac extracellular matrix(pcECM)scaffold, these stimuli improved the proliferation of mesenchymal stem/stromal cells(MSCs)and induced the formation of a dense tissue-like structure near the scaffold’s surface. Most importantly, after 35 d of cultivation, the MSCs presented the early cardiac progenitor markers Connexin-43 andα-actinin,which were absent in the control cells.Overall, this research developed a new bioreactor system for cellularizing cardiac scaffolds under cardiac-like conditions, aiming to restore a sustainable dynamic living tissue that can bear the essential cardiac excitation–contraction coupling.
文摘This study provides the first systematic evaluation of image resolution’s effect (50-300 PPI, pixels per inch) on UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle)-based digital close-range photogrammetry accuracy in civil engineering applications, such as infrastructure monitoring and heritage preservation. Future research should leverage deep learning to optimize resolutions in dynamic environments.

文摘Cation segregation on cathode surfaces plays a key role in determining the activity and operational stability of solid oxide fuel cells(SOFCs).The double perovskite oxide PrBa_(0.8)Ca_(0.2)Co_(2)O_(5+δ)(PBCC)has been widely studied as an active cathode but still suffer from serious detrimental segregations. To enhance the cathode stability,a PBCC derived A-site medium-entropy Pr_(0.6)La_(0.1)Nd_(0.1)Sm_(0.1)Gd_(0.1)Ba_(0.8)Ca_(0.2)Co_(2)O_(5+δ)(ME-PBCC)oxide was prepared and its segregation behaviors were investigated under different conditions.Compared with initial PBCC oxide, the segregations of BaO and Co_(3)O_(4)on the surface of ME-PBCC material are significantly suppressed, especially for Co_(3)O_(4),which is attributed to its higher configuration entropy. Our results also confirm the improved electrochemical performance and structural stability of ME-PBCC material, enabling it as a promising cathode for SOFCs.

文摘The limited ion/electron transport kinetics and insufficient crystalline stability of TiNb_(2)O_(7)(TNO)present significant challenges to the development of high-performance lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)with fastcharging capabilities and long cycle life. Here we propose a dual-modification strategy combining Ndoped carbon(NC)coating and Co^(2+)/W^(6+)doping,which not only enhances ionic and electronic conductivity but also effectively regulates volume expansion during electrochemical cycling.Upon Li+ion insertion,a significant reduction in the unit cell expansion coefficient of doped TNO is observed, from 7.48%(pristine TNO)to 5.37%(with 3%W^(6+)doping)and 4.65%(with 3%Co^(2+)doping),alo ng with lowered lattice distortion and improved uniformity in internal strain release.Density functional theory(DFT)simulation demonstrates that Co^(2+)and W^(6+)ions preferentially substitute Ti^(4+)sites in the TNO crystal, leading to the improved electronic conductivity by narrowing the bandgap.Moreover,Co^(2+)doping creates lower electron density and wider Li+ion transport channels than W^(6+)doping.The optimized 3Co-TNO@NC anode delivers a remarkable power density of 11.0 kW kg^(-1)at 20 C while maintaining a high reversible capacity of 150.9 mAh g^(-1)at 10 C after 2000 cycles. It also exhibits excellent compatibility in full cells, paired well with LiFePO_(4)(137.9 mAh g^(-1)after 2000 cycles)and Ni-rich LiNi_(0.8)Co_(0.1)Mn_(0.1)(130.9 mAh g^(-1)after 500cycles)cathodes at 5 C,highlighting its potential as a high-safety,low-strain anode material for highpower LIBs.

文摘The deep cement mixing(DCM)is used to improve the capacity and reduce the settlement of the soft ground by forming cemented clay columns. The investigation on the mechanical behaviour of the DCM samples is limited to either laboratory-prepared samples or in-situ samples under unconfined compression. In this study,a series of drained and undrained triaxial shearing tests was performed on the in-situ cored DCM samples with high cement content to assess their mechanical behaviours. It is found that the drainage condition affects significantly the stiffness, peak and residual strengths of the DCM samples, which is mainly due to the state of excess pore water pressure at different strain levels,i.e.being positive before the peak deviatoric stress and negative after the peak deviatoric stress,in the undrained tests. The slope of the failure envelope changes obviously with the confining pressures, being steeper at lower stress levels and flatter at higher stress levels. The strength parameters, effective cohesion and friction angle obtained from lower stress levels(c′0 andφ′0)are 400 kPa and 58°,respectively,which are deemed to be true for design in most DCM applications where the in-situ stress levels are normally at lower values of 50-200 kPa.Additionally, the computed tomography(CT)scanning system was adopted to visualize the internal structures of DCM samples. It is found that the clay pockets existing inside the DCM samples due to uneven mixing affect markedly their stress-strain behaviour, which is one of the main reasons for the high variability of the DCM samples.

文摘Water level fluctuations in the reservoir deteriorate soils and rocks on the bank landslides by drying-wetting(D-W)cycles,which results in a significant decrease in mechanical properties.A comprehensive understanding of deterioration mechanism of sliding-zone soils is of great significance for interpreting the deformation behavior of landslides. However, quantitative investigation on the deterioration characteristics of soils considering the structural evolution under D-W cycles is still limited. Here,we carry out a series of laboratory tests to characterize the multi-scale deterioration of sliding-zone soils and reveal the mechanism of shear strength decay under D-W cycles.Firstly,we describe the micropores into five grades by scanning electron microscope and observe a critical change in porosity after the first three cycles. We categorize the mesoscale cracks into five classes using digital photography and observe a stepwise increase in crack area ratio.Secondly,we propose a shear strength decay model based on fractal theory which is verified by the results of consolidated undrained triaxial tests.Cohesion and friction angle of sliding-zone soils are found to show different decay patterns resulting from the staged evolution of structure. Then, structural deterioration processes including cementation destruction, pores expansion, aggregations decomposition, and clusters assembly are considered to occur to decay the shear strength differently. Finally,a three-stage deterioration mechanism associated with four structural deterioration processes is revealed, which helps to better interpret the intrinsic mechanism of shear strength decay. These findings provide the theoretical basis for the further accurate evaluation of reservoir landslides stability under water level fluctuations.

文摘As battery technology evolves and demand for efficient energy storage solutions, aqueous zinc ion batteries(AZIBs)have garnered significant attention due to their safety and environmental benefits. However, the stability of cathode materials under high-voltage conditions remains a critical challenge in improving its energy density. This review systematically explores the failure mechanisms of high-voltage cathode materials in AZIBs,including hydrogen evolution reaction, phase transformation and dissolution phenomena. To address these challenges,we propose a range of advanced strategies aimed at improving the stability of cathode materials. These strategies include surface coating and doping techniques designed to fortify the surface properties and structure integrity of the cathode materials under high-voltage conditions.Additionally,we emphasize the importance of designing antioxidant electrolytes, with a focus on understanding and optimizing electrolyte decomposition mechanisms. The review also highlights the significance of modifying conductive agents and employing innovative separators to further enhance the stability of AZIBs.By integrating these cutting-edge approaches, this review anticipates substantial advancements in the stability of high-voltage cathode materials, paving the way for the broader application and development of AZIBs in energy storage.
文摘This article presents a detailed theoretical hybrid analysis of the magnetism and the thermal radiative heat transfer in the presence of heat generation affecting the behavior of the dispersed gold nanoparticles(AuNPs)through the blood vessels of the human body. The rheology of gold-blood nanofluid is treated as magnetohydrodynamic(MHD)flow with ferromagnetic properties. The AuNPs take different shapes as bricks, cylinders, and platelets which are considered in changing the nanofluid flow behavior.Physiologically, the blood is circulated under the kinetics of the peristaltic action. The mixed properties of the slip flow, the gravity, the space porosity, the transverse ferromagnetic field, the thermal radiation, the nanoparticles shape factors, the peristaltic amplitude ratio, and the concentration of the AuNPs are interacted and analyzed for the gold-blood circulation in the inclined tube. The appropriate model for the thermal conductivity of the nanofluid is chosen to be the effective Hamilton-Crosser model. The undertaken nanofluid can be treated as incompressible non-Newtonian ferromagnetic fluid. The solutions of the partial differential governing equations of the MHD nanofluid flow are executed by the strategy of perturbation approach under the assumption of long wavelength and low Reynolds number.Graphs for the streamwise velocity distributions, temperature distributions, pressure gradients, pressure drops, and streamlines are presented under the influences of the pertinent properties. The practical implementation of this research finds application in treating cancer through a technique known as photothermal therapy(PTT).The results indicate the control role of the magnetism, the heat generation, the shape factors of the AuNPs,and its concentration on the enhancement of the thermal properties and the streamwise velocity of the nanofluid. The results reveal a marked enhancement in the temperature profiles of the nanofluid, prominently influenced by both the intensified heat source and the heightened volume fractions of the nanoparticles.Furthermore, the platelet shape is regarded as most advantageous for heat conduction owing to its highest effective thermal conductivity.AuNPs proved strong efficiency in delivering and targeting the drug to reach the affected area with tumors. These results offer valuable insights into evaluating the effectiveness of PTT in addressing diverse cancer conditions and regulating their progression.

文摘Located downstream the Kupang Catchment in Indonesia,Pekalongan faces significant land subsidence issues, leading to severe coastal flooding. This study aimed to assess the impact of climate change on future flow regimes and hydrological extremes to inform long-term water resources management strategies for the Kupang Catchment.Utilizing precipitation and air temperature data from general circulation models in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project 6(CMIP6)and employing bias correction techniques, the Soil and Water Assessment Tool(SWAT)hydrological model was employed to analyze climate-induced changes in hydrological fluxes, specifically streamflow. Results indicated a consistent increase in monthly streamflow during the wet season, with a substantial rise of 22.8%,alongside a slight decrease of 18.0%during the dry season. Moreover, both the frequency and severity of extremely low and high flows were projected to intensify by approximately 50%and 70%,respectively,for a 20-year return period, suggesting heightened flood and drought risks in the future. The observed declining trend in low flow,by up to 11%,indicated the potential for long-term groundwater depletion exacerbating the threat of land subsidence and coastal flooding, especially in areas with inadequate surface water management policies and infrastructure.
文摘Open caissons are widely used in foundation engineering because of their load-bearing efficiency and adaptability in diverse soil conditions. However, accurately predicting their undrained bearing capacity in layered soils remains a complex challenge. This study presents a novel application of five ensemble machine(ML)algorithms-random forest(RF),gradient boosting machine(GBM),extreme gradient boosting(XGBoost),adaptive boosting(AdaBoost),and categorical boosting(CatBoost)-to predict the undrained bearing capacity factor(Nc)of circular open caissons embedded in two-layered clay on the basis of results from finite element limit analysis(FELA).The input dataset consists of 1188 numerical simulations using the Tresca failure criterion, varying in geometrical and soil parameters. The FELA was performed via OptumG2 software with adaptive meshing techniques and verified against existing benchmark studies. The ML models were trained on 70% of the dataset and tested on the remaining 30%.Their performance was evaluated using six statistical metrics:coefficient of determination(R²),mean absolute error(MAE),root mean squared error(RMSE),index of scatter(IOS),RMSE-to-standard deviation ratio(RSR),and variance explained factor(VAF).The results indicate that all the models achieved high accuracy, with R²values exceeding 97.6%and RMSE values below 0.02.Among them,AdaBoost and CatBoost consistently outperformed the other methods across both the training and testing datasets, demonstrating superior generalizability and robustness. The proposed ML framework offers an efficient, accurate, and data-driven alternative to traditional methods for estimating caisson capacity in stratified soils. This approach can aid in reducing computational costs while improving reliability in the early stages of foundation design.

文摘The strength of the sliding zone soil determines the stability of reservoir landslides.Fluctuations in water levels cause a change in the seepage field, which serves as both the external hydrogeological environment and the internal component of a landslide. Therefore, considering the strength changes of the sliding zone with seepage effects, they correspond with the actual hydrogeological circumstances. To investigate the shear behavior of sliding zone soil under various seepage pressures,24 samples were conducted by a self-developed apparatus to observe the shear strength and measure the permeability coefficients at different deformation stages. After seepage-shear tests, the composition of clay minerals and microscopic structure on the shear surface were analyzed through X-ray and scanning electron microscope(SEM)to understand the coupling effects of seepage on strength. The results revealed that the sliding zone soil exhibited strain-hardening without seepage pressure. However, the introduction of seepage caused a significant reduction in shear strength, resulting in strain-softening characterized by a three-stage process.Long-term seepage action softened clay particles and transported broken particles into effective seepage channels, causing continuous damage to the interior structure and reducing the permeability coefficient.Increased seepage pressure decreased the peak strength by disrupting occlusal and frictional forces between sliding zone soil particles, which carried away more clay particles, contributing to an overhead structure in the soil that raised the permeability coefficient and decreased residual strength. The internal friction angle was less sensitive to variations in seepage pressure than cohesion.

文摘This research aims to study the bio-adsorption process of two dyes,Cibacron Green H3G(CG-H3G)and Terasil Red(TR),in a single system and to bring them closer to the industrial textile discharge by a binary mixture of two dyes(TR+CG-H3G).The Cockle Shell(CS)was used as a natural bio-adsorbent.The characterizations of CS were investigated by Fourier transform infrared(FTIR),X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX)and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller(BET).The adsorption potential of Cockle Shells was tested in two cases(single and binary system)and determined by:contact time(0–60 min),bio-adsorption dose(3–15 g/L),initial concentration(10–300 mg/L),temperature(22–61°C)and pH solution(2–12).The study of bio-adsorption(equilibrium and kinetics)was conducted at 22°C.The kinetic studies demon-strated that a pseudo-second-order adsorption mechanism had a good correlation coefficient(R2≥0.999).The Langmuir isotherm modeling provided a well-defined description of TR and CG-H3G bio-adsorption on cockle shells, exhibiting maximum capacities of 29.41 and 3.69 mg/g respectively at 22°C.The thermodynamic study shows that the reaction between the TR,CG-H3G dyes molecules and the bio-adsorbent is exothermic, spontaneous in the range of 22–31°C with the aleatory character decrease at the solid-liquid interface. The study of selectivity in single and binary systems has been performed under optimal operating conditions using the industrial textile rejection pH(pH=6.04).CG-H3G dye is found to have a higher selectivity than TR in single(0–60 min)and binary systems with a range of 6–45 min,as shown by the selectivity measurement. It was discovered that CS has the capability to remove both CG-H3G and TR dyes in both simple and binary systems, making it a superior bio-adsorbent.

文摘This study presents a novel approach to improving the anticorrosive performance of AZ31 Mg alloy by exploiting the role of the hydration reaction to induce interactions between Quinolin-8-ol(8HQ)molecules and the porous MgO layer formed via plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO).The AZ31 Mg alloy, initially coated with a PEO layer, underwent a dipping treatment in an ethanolic solution of 0.05 M 8HQ at 50℃ for 3 h.The results were compared with those from a different procedure where the PEO layer was subjected to a hydration reaction for 2 h at 90℃ before immersion in the 8HQ solution under the same conditions. The hydration treatment played a crucial role by converting MgO to Mg(OH)_(2),significantly enhancing the surface reactivity. This transformation introduced hydroxyl groups(−OH)on the surface, which facilitated donor-acceptor interactions with the electron-accepting sites on 8HQ molecules. The calculated binding energy(Ebinding)from DFT indicated that the interaction energy of 8HQ with Mg(OH)_(2) was lower compared to 8HQ with MgO,suggesting easier adsorption of 8HQ molecules on the hydrated surface. This, combined with the increased number of active sites and enhanced surface area, allowed for extensive surface coverage by 8HQ,leading to the formation of a stable,flake-like protective layer that sealed the majority of pores on the PEO layer.DFT calculations further suggested that the hydration treatment provided multiple active sites, enabling effective contact with 8HQ and rapid electron transfer, creating ideal conditions for charge-transfer-induced physical and chemical bonding. This study shows that hydration and 8HQ treatments significantly enhance the corrosion resistance of Mg alloys, highlighting their potential for advanced anticorrosive coatings.
文摘Traffic forecasting with high precision aids Intelligent Transport Systems(ITS)in formulating and optimizing traffic management strategies. The algorithms used for tuning the hyperparameters of the deep learning models often have accurate results at the expense of high computational complexity. To address this problem, this paper uses the Tree-structured Parzen Estimator(TPE)to tune the hyperparameters of the Long Short-term Memory(LSTM)deep learning framework. The Tree-structured Parzen Estimator(TPE)uses a probabilistic approach with an adaptive searching mechanism by classifying the objective function values into good and bad samples. This ensures fast convergence in tuning the hyperparameter values in the deep learning model for performing prediction while still maintaining a certain degree of accuracy. It also overcomes the problem of converging to local optima and avoids timeconsuming random search and, therefore, avoids high computational complexity in prediction accuracy. The proposed scheme first performs data smoothing and normalization on the input data, which is then fed to the input of the TPE for tuning the hyperparameters. The traffic data is then input to the LSTM model with tuned parameters to perform the traffic prediction. The three optimizers:Adaptive Moment Estimation(Adam),Root Mean Square Propagation(RMSProp),and Stochastic Gradient Descend with Momentum(SGDM)are also evaluated for accuracy prediction and the best optimizer is then chosen for final traffic prediction in TPE-LSTM model.Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed model in terms of accuracy of prediction over the benchmark schemes.
