Advancing Breast Cancer Molecular Subtyping:A Comparative Study of Convolutional Neural Networks and Vision Transformers on Mammograms

critical for guiding treatment and improving patient outcomes.Traditional molecular subtyping via immuno-histochemistry(IHC)test is invasive,time-consuming,and may not fully represent tumor heterogeneity.This study pr... critical for guiding treatment and improving patient outcomes.Traditional molecular subtyping via immuno-histochemistry(IHC)test is invasive,time-consuming,and may not fully represent tumor heterogeneity.This study proposes a non-invasive approach using digital mammography images and deep learning algorithm for classifying breast cancer molecular subtypes.Four pretrained models,including two Convolutional Neural Networks(MobileNet_V3_Large and VGG-16)and two Vision Transformers(ViT_B_16 and ViT_Base_Patch16_Clip_224)were fine-tuned to classify images into HER2-enriched,Luminal,Normal-like,and Triple Negative subtypes.Hyperparameter tuning,including learning rate adjustment and layer freezing strategies,was applied to optimize performance.Among the evaluated models,ViT_Base_Patch16_Clip_224 achieved the highest test accuracy(94.44%),with equally high precision,recall,and F1-score of 0.94,demonstrating excellent generalization.MobileNet_V3_Large achieved the same accuracy but showed less training stability.In contrast,VGG-16 recorded the lowest performance,indicating a limitation in its generalizability for this classification task.The study also highlighted the superior performance of the Vision Transformer models over CNNs,particularly due to their ability to capture global contextual features and the benefit of CLIP-based pretraining in ViT_Base_Patch16_Clip_224.To enhance clinical applicability,a graphical user interface(GUI)named“BCMS Dx”was developed for streamlined subtype prediction.Deep learning applied to mammography has proven effective for accurate and non-invasive molecular subtyping.The proposed Vision Transformer-based model and supporting GUI offer a promising direction for augmenting diagnostic workflows,minimizing the need for invasive procedures,and advancing personalized breast cancer management. 展开更多

Colorectal cancer is the third most diagnosed cancer worldwide,and immune checkpoint inhibitors have shown promising therapeutic outcomes in selected patient groups.This study performed a comprehensive analysis of multi-omics data from The Cancer Genome Atlas colorectal adenocarcinoma cohort(TCGA-COADREAD),accessed through cBioPortal,to develop machine learning models for predicting progression-free survival(PFS)following immunotherapy.The dataset included clinical variables,genomic alterations in Kirsten Rat Sarcoma Viral Oncogene Homolog(KRAS),B-Raf Proto-Oncogene(BRAF),and Neuroblastoma RAS Viral Oncogene Homolog(NRAS),microsatellite instability(MSI)status,tumor mutation burden(TMB),and expression of immune checkpoint genes.Kaplan–Meier analysis showed that KRAS mutations were significantly associated with reduced PFS,while BRAF and NRAS mutations had no significant impact.MSI-high tumors exhibited elevated TMB and increased immune checkpoint expression,reflecting their immunologically active phenotype.We developed both survival and classification models,with the Extra Trees classifier achieving the best performance(accuracy=0.86,precision=0.67,recall=0.70,F1-score=0.68,AUC=0.84).These findings highlight the potential of combining genomic and immune biomarkers with machine learning to improve patient stratification and guide personalized immunotherapy decisions.An interactive web application was also developed to enable clinicians to input patient-specific molecular and clinical data and visualize individualized PFS predictions,supporting timely,data-driven treatment planning. 展开更多

This paper presents two four-quadrant topologies for Permanent Magnet Direct Current (PMDC) motor drives, built using combination of power electronics switches. The issue is the increased efficiency of the topology compared to conventional ones built using only one type of power electronic switches. The suggested combinations-MOSFET-IGBT and MOSFET-SCR improve the current bridge topologies by uniting the advantages of the different switches-the high switching capabilities of the MOSFET and the better antiparallel diodes of IGBTs and SCRs. The total efficiency of the motor control is improved by several percents. This reduces the overall consumption of the converter circuitry, which can be very beneficial-especially at high power motors, as the ones presented in the paper. Statistical and experimental data is presented proving the efficiency of the suggest topologies. 展开更多

This paper analyzes the nonlinear dynamic characteristics and stability of Aero-Engine Dual-Rotor(AEDR)systems under high-frequency excitation,based on the Adaptive Harmonic Balance with the Asymptotic Harmonic Selection(AHB-AHS)method.A finite element dynamic equation for the AEDR system is introduced,considering complex nonlinearities of the intershaft bearing,unbalanced excitations,and high-frequency excitation.A solving strategy combining the AHB-AHS method and improved arclength continuation method is proposed to solve highdimensional dynamic equations containing complex nonlinearities and to track periodic solutions with parameter variations.The Floquet theory is used to analyze the types of bifurcation points in the system and the stability of periodic motions.The results indicate that high-frequency excitation can couple high-order and low-order modes,especially when the system undergoes superharmonic resonance.High-frequency excitation leads to more combination frequency harmonics,among which N_(f)ω_(1)-2ω_(2)dominates.Furthermore,changing the parameters(amplitude and frequency)of high-frequency excitation widens or shifts the unstable regions of the system.These findings contribute to understanding the mechanism of high-frequency excitation on aero-engines and demonstrate that the proposed AHB-AHS method is a powerful tool for analyzing highdimensional complex nonlinear dynamic systems under multi-frequency excitation. 展开更多

This study explores the nonlinear dynamics of a quasi-zero stiffness(QZS)vibration isolator coupled with a piezoelectric energy harvester connected to an RL-resonant circuit.The model of the system is formulated with the Lagrangian mechanics,representing a two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear electromechanical system subject to harmonic base excitation under a 1:1 internal resonance condition.The model is normalized,and the conditions dictating monostable and bistable oscillation modes are identified.The bifurcation characteristics of the coupled system are analyzed in both oscillation modes by means of harmonic balance and continuation methods.The vibration isolation performance,with and without the coupled harvester,is evaluated in terms of displacement transmissibility to assess its dual functionalities for vibration isolation and energy harvesting.Analytical results demonstrate that integrating a piezoelectric harvester into a monostable QZS isolator under 1:1 internal resonance does not compromise its vibration isolation capability while enabling efficient energy harvesting at extremely low-frequency base excitation.Furthermore,the system's response under strong base excitation is investigated exclusively for energy harvesting in both monostable and bistable modes,leading to optimal structural parameter design.The conditions for intra-well and inter-well periodic oscillation modes,as well as chaotic responses,are analyzed analytically and validated numerically through stability charts,basins of attraction,bifurcation diagrams,time histories,and Poincarémaps.This work provides a comprehensive understanding of the oscillation dynamics of QZS isolators and offers valuable insights for optimizing their geometric parameters to function as high-performance vibration isolators and/or energy harvesters. 展开更多

An observer-based adaptive fuzzy control is presented for a class of nonlinear systems with unknown time delays. The state observer is first designed, and then the controller is designed via the adaptive fuzzy control method based on the observed states. Both the designed observer and controller are independent of time delays. Using an appropriate Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, the uncertainty of the unknown time delay is compensated, and then the fuzzy logic system in Mamdani type is utilized to approximate the unknown nonlinear functions. Based on the Lyapunov stability theory, the constructed observer-based controller and the closed-loop system are proved to be asymptotically stable. The designed control law is independent of the time delays and has a simple form with only one adaptive parameter vector, which is to be updated on-line. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. 展开更多

In recent decades, event-related potentials have been used for the clinical electrophysiological assessment of patients with disorders of consciousness (DOCs). In this paper, an oddball paradigm with two types of frequencydeviant stimulus (standard stimuli were pure tones of 1000 Hz; small deviant stimuli were pure tones of 1050 Hz; large deviant stimuli were pure tones of 1200 Hz) was applied to elicit mismatch negativity (MMN) in 30 patients with DOCs diagnosed using the JFK Coma Recovery Scale- Revised (CRS-R). The results showed that the peak amplitudes of MMN elicited by both large and small deviant stimuli were significantly different from baseline. In terms of the spatial properties of MMN, a significant interaction effect between conditions (small and large deviant stimuli) and electrode nodes was centered at the frontocentral area. Furthermore, correlation coefficients were calculated between MMN amplitudes and CRS-R scores for each electrode among all participants to generate topographic maps. Meanwhile, a significant negative correlation between the MMN amplitudes elicited by large deviant stimuli and the CRS-R scores was also found at the frontocentral area. In consequence, our results combine the above spatial properties of MMN in patients with DOCs, and provide a more precise location (frontocentral area) at which to evaluate the correlation between clinical electrophysiological assessment and the level of consciousness. 展开更多

In this article,the reduced differential transform method is introduced to solve the nonlinear fractional model of Tumor-Immune.The fractional derivatives are described in the Caputo sense.The solutions derived using this method are easy and very accurate.The model is given by its signal flow diagram.Moreover,a simulation of the system by the Simulink of MATLAB is given.The disease-free equilibrium and stability of the equilibrium point are calculated.Formulation of a fractional optimal control for the cancer model is calculated.In addition,to control the system,we propose a novel modification of its model.This modification is based on converting the model to a memristive one,which is a first time in the literature that such idea is used to control this type of diseases.Also,we study the system’s stability via the Lyapunov exponents and Poincare maps before and after control.Fractional order differential equations(FDEs)are commonly utilized to model systems that have memory,and exist in several physical phenomena,models in thermoelasticity field,and biological paradigms.FDEs have been utilized to model the realistic biphasic decline manner of elastic systems and infection of diseases with a slower rate of change.FDEs are more useful than integer-order in modeling sophisticated models that contain physical phenomena. 展开更多

In this paper, the modified projective synchronization (MPS) of a fractional-order hyperchaotic system is inves- tigated. We design the response system corresponding to the drive system on the basis of projective synchronization theory, and determine the sufficient condition for the synchronization of the drive system and the response system based on fractional-order stability theory. The MPS of a fractional-order hyperchaotic system is achieved by transmitting a single variable. This scheme reduces the information transmission in order to achieve the synchronization, and extends the applicable scope of MPS. Numerical simulations further demonstrate the feasibility and the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. 展开更多

This paper presents a method using range deception jamming to evaluate the safety performance of the autonomous vehicle with millimetre wave(MMW)radar.The working principle of this method is described.Combined with a waveform edition software,an experimental platform is developed to generate a deceptive signal that contains false distance information.According to related theories and its principle,the configuration parameters of the experimental setup are calculated and configured.The MMW radar of evaluated vehicle should identify an objective when it receives the deceptive signal from the experimental setup.Even if no obstacle,the evaluated vehicle can immediately brake in order that its braking distance is measured.The experimental results show that the proposed method can meet the requirements of the safety performance evaluation for the autonomous vehicle with MMW radar,and it also overcomes some deficiencies of previous methods. 展开更多

An amorphous SiO2/4 H–Si C(0001) interface model with carbon dimer defects is established based on density functional theory of the first-principle plane wave pseudopotential method.The structures of carbon dimer defects after passivation by H2 and NO molecules are established,and the interface states before and after passivation are calculated by the Heyd–Scuseria–Ernzerhof(HSE06) hybrid functional scheme.Calculation results indicate that H2 can be adsorbed on the O2–C = C–O2 defect and the carbon–carbon double bond is converted into a single bond.However,H2 cannot be adsorbed on the O2–(C = C)′ –O2 defect.The NO molecules can be bonded by N and C atoms to transform the carbon–carbon double bonds,thereby passivating the two defects.This study shows that the mechanism for the passivation of Si O2/4 H–SiC(0001) interface carbon dimer defects is to convert the carbon–carbon double bonds into carbon dimers.Moreover,some intermediate structures that can be introduced into the interface state in the band gap should be avoided. 展开更多

In this paper, two fatal flaws of the cryptosystem are pointed out. According to these two drawbacks, cryptanalysts could recover the plaintext by applying the chosen plaintext attack. Therefore, the proposed cryptosystem is not secure enough to be used in the image transmission system. Experimental results show the feasibility of the attack. In this paper, a negative feedback velocity is applied to a dynamical system, which is represented by two coupled second order nonlinear differential equations having both quadratic and cubic nonlinearties. The system describes the vibration of an aircraft tail. The system is subjected to multi-external excitation forces. The method of multiple time scale perturbation is applied to solve the nonlinear differential equations and obtain approximate solutions up to third order of accuracy. The stability of the system is investigated applying frequency response equations. The effects of the different parameters are studied numerically. Various resonance cases are investigated. TheUAV pursuit-evasion problem focuses on the efficient tracking and capture of evading targets using unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs),which is pivotal in public safety applications,particularly in scenarios involving intrusion monitoring and interception.To address the challenges of data acquisition,real-world deployment,and the limited intelligence of existing algorithms in UAV pursuit-evasion tasks,we propose an innovative swarm intelligencebased UAV pursuit-evasion control framework,namely“Boids Model-based DRL Approach for Pursuit and Escape”(Boids-PE),which synergizes the strengths of swarm intelligence from bio-inspired algorithms and deep reinforcement learning(DRL).The Boids model,which simulates collective behavior through three fundamental rules,separation,alignment,and cohesion,is adopted in our work.By integrating Boids model with the Apollonian Circles algorithm,significant improvements are achieved in capturing UAVs against simple evasion strategies.To further enhance decision-making precision,we incorporate a DRL algorithm to facilitate more accurate strategic planning.We also leverage self-play training to continuously optimize the performance of pursuit UAVs.During experimental evaluation,we meticulously designed both one-on-one and multi-to-one pursuit-evasion scenarios,customizing the state space,action space,and reward function models for each scenario.Extensive simulations,supported by the PyBullet physics engine,validate the effectiveness of our proposed method.The overall results demonstrate that Boids-PE significantly enhance the efficiency and reliability of UAV pursuit-evasion tasks,providing a practical and robust solution for the real-world application of UAV pursuit-evasion missions. 展开更多

In this paper,the nonlinear dynamic behavior of a string-beam coupled system subjected to external,parametric and tuned excitations is presented.The governing equations of motion are obtained for the nonlinear transverse vibrations of the string-beam coupled system which are described by a set of ordinary differential equations with two degrees of freedom.The case of 1:1 internal resonance between the modes of the beam and string,and the primary and combined resonance for the beam is considered.The method of multiple scales is utilized to analyze the nonlinear responses of the string-beam coupled system and obtain approximate solutions up to and including the second-order approximations.All resonance cases are extracted and investigated.Stability of the system is studied using frequency response equations and the phase-plane method.Numerical solutions are carried out and the results are presented graphically and discussed.The effects of the different parameters on both response and stability of the system are investigated.The reported results are compared to the available published work. 展开更多

Then, a sufficient stability condition for the SPDS with both stable and unstable subsystems is obtained. The stability results for the SPDSs are represented in terms of a set of linear programmings(LPs) by the multiple linear co-positive Lyapunov function(MLCLF) approach. The sufficient conditions of a class of integral-order hyperchaotic systems' impulsive synchronisation are illustrated. Furthermore, we apply the sufficient conditions to a class of fractional-order hyperchaotic systems and well achieve impulsive synchronisation of these fractional-order hyperchaotic systems, thereby extending the applicable scope of impulsive synchronisation. The digital reactor protection system(RPS)is one of the most important digital instrumentation and control(I&C)systems utilized in nuclear power plants(NPPs).It ensures a safe reactor trip when the safety-related parameters violate the operational limits and conditions of the reactor.Achieving high reliability and availability of digital RPS is essential to maintaining a high degree of reactor safety and cost savings.The main objective of this study is to develop a general methodology for improving the reliability of the RPS in NPP,based on a Bayesian Belief Network(BBN)model.The structure of BBN models is based on the incorporation of failure probability and downtime of the RPS I&C components.Various architectures with dual-state nodes for the I&C components were developed for reliability-sensitive analysis and availability optimization of the RPS and to demonstrate the effect of I&C components on the failure of the entire system.A reliability framework clarified as a reliability block diagram transformed into a BBN representation was constructed for each architecture to identify which one will fit the required reliability.The results showed that the highest availability obtained using the proposed method was 0.9999998.There are 120 experiments using two common component importance measures that are applied to define the impact of I&C modules,which revealed that some modules are more risky than others and have a larger effect on the failure of the digital RPS. 展开更多

We investigate the effect of ozone(O_(3))oxidation of silicon carbide(SiC)on the flat-band voltage(Vfb)stability of SiC metal–oxide–semiconductor(MOS)capacitors.The SiC MOS capacitors are produced by O_(3)oxidation,and their Vfbstability under frequency variation,temperature variation,and bias temperature stress are evaluated.Secondary ion mass spectroscopy(SIMS),atomic force microscopy(AFM),and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)indicate that O_(3)oxidation can adjust the element distribution near SiC/SiO_(2)interface,improve SiC/SiO_(2)interface morphology,and inhibit the formation of near-interface defects,respectively.In addition,we elaborate the underlying mechanism through which O_(3)oxidation improves the Vfbstability of SiC MOS capacitors by using the measurement results and O_(3)oxidation kinetics. 展开更多
