Graphite is prone to cause severe abrasion wear to coated carbide endmills due to its high abrasiveness nature. The major patterns of tool wear are flank wear, rake wear,micro-chipping and breakage. Cutting forces can be reduced by adoption of higher cutting speed, moderate feed per tooth, smaller radial and axial depths of cut,and up cutting.展开更多

A color space clustering algorithm to extract the edge information of the surface plasma region was developed in order to improve the accuracy of image processing. With a comparative analysis of the plasma features, i.e., area and height, and the characteristics of the welded seam, the relationship between the surface plasma and the stability of the laser welding process was characterized, which provides a basic understanding for the real-time monitoring of laser welding.展开更多

The physical phenomena of abrasive particles bombarding on silicon monocrystal surface are simulated using Tersoff potentials. The effects of vibration parameters, particle size, incident angle and particle material are analyzed and discussed. Material removal mechanisms are studied. Deformation and embedment phenomena are found in the simulations, Bombardment will destroy the crystal structures near the impact point, and adhesion effect is responsible for final removal of material.展开更多

In this model, the input layer is composed of five neurons: the radial position, the axial position, the gas pressure, the microwave power and the magnet coil current. The output layer is the target output neuron: the plasma density. The accuracy of prediction is tested with the experimental data obtained by the Langmuir probe. The effectiveness of two artificial neural network models are demonstrated, the results show good agreements with corresponding experimental data. The ability of the artificial neural network model to predict the plasma density accurately in an electron cyclotron resonance-plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition system can be concluded, and the radial based function is more suitable than the multi layer perceptron in this work.展开更多

An initial deformable surface, which is represented as a closed cylinder, is firstly given. The surface is subject to internal forces describing its implicit smoothness property and external forces attracting it toward the layer data points. And then finite element method is adopted to solve its energy minimization problem, which results a bicubic closed B-spline surface with C^2 continuity. The proposed method can provide a smoothness and accurate surface model directly from the layer data, without the need to fit cross-sectional curves and make them compatible. The feasibility of the proposed method is verified by the experimental results.展开更多

Starting with an initial B-spline curve, the finite element method is adopted to make the active B-spline curve converge towards the target curve without the need of data points parameterization. A strategy of automatic control point insertion during the B-spline active contour deformation, adaptive to the shape of the planar curve, is also given. Experimental results show that this method is efficient and accurate in planar curve approximation.展开更多
