The aim is to analyse the situation of Brazilian creative workers in the gig economy during the COVID-19 pandemic. The main argument indicates that, despite the opportunities for entrepreneurship brought by gig economy during the COVID-19 pandemic,Brazilian creative workers may be open to exploitation and lower wages and show lower levels of satisfaction compared to the creative activities they used to have before the pandemic. The workers became even more exposed to the lack of long-standing protections-such as a minimum wage, safety and health regulation, retirement income, health insurance, and worker compensation-and risks that were previously shouldered by employers and the state, including responsibility for bodily injury, damage to tools and assets, coverage between paid gigs, financial malfeasance by customers, and harassment. 展开更多

The aim is to examine the creative queer spaces of Daniel Nolasco’s short films Uranus,Neptune, and Pluto. The main argument indicates that the trilogy unveils geographic landscapes that are not common to current imagination of a typical Brazilian heteronormative space, built by the contrast between the beaches and forests and the density of the city.In the three films,Nolasco explores the deviations from any heteronormative norm in creative queer spaces where alternative experiences and sensibilities of the male homoerotic body are possible. 展开更多

The aim is to examine Madonna’s revolution regarding gender, sexuality, politics, and religion with the focus on her songs, videos, and live performances. The main argument indicates that Madonna has used postmodern strategies of representation to challenge the foundational truths of sex and gender, promote gender deconstruction and sexual multiplicity, create political sites of resistance, question the Catholic dissociation between the physical and the divine, and bring visual and musical influences from multiple cultures and marginalized identities. 展开更多

The aim is to analyze the use of sexually explicit material in queer movies, particularly in the short film“Intruders”.The movie takes place amid political upheaval in Brazil and brings an intersection among class, privilege and sex.The main argument indicates that many queer movies face the ongoing political normalization of same-sex desires in the society and bring alternative forms of relationality, which may be framed by the location where they develop and characterized by the fluidity of the relationships among the characters. The explicit sex aims to examine alternative forms of relationality, which question the normalization of specific actions and sexual behaviors.Based on a different perspective from the traditional pornography,“Intruders”understands sex as a political act,so that it is neither the consumption of bodies, nor the pursuit of desire at any cost, but the construction of new possibilities of relationships. 展开更多

The aims of the article are to present the theoretical foundations of the concept of“creative economy”and explore its main limitations. The central argument indicates that the liberal theoretical foundations of creative economy point out that transformations in the capitalist order paved the way for economic activities that considered the growing aesthetic and intellectual needs of individuals and were based on intellectual resources, social networking and knowledge exchange. However, there are limitations in the concept, such as the understanding that creative economy is a result of pregiven formulas of governance replicated with no consideration of local specificities. 展开更多

The aim is to examine how the creative economy develops in shareholder, state, and stakeholder capitalism. In the shareholder capitalism, the creative economy is headed by large companies in cooperation with governments, which replicate pregiven formulas of governance with no consideration of local specificities, and reinforces the exclusion of small and medium-sized creative enterprises. The state capitalism has the government authorities as the main drivers of the creative economy’s growth, which is usually connected to their political interest in preserving authority and manipulating the population. In the stakeholder capitalism, companies should pay their fair share of taxes, show zero tolerance for corruption, uphold human rights throughout their global supply chains, and advocate for a competitive level playing field. These elements create the specific conditions for a more diversified set of actors leading the initiatives dedicated to the development of creative economy. 展开更多

The aim is to examine the multiple meanings of creativity in creative economy. The meanings which reinforce the individual aspect stress that personal characteristics may unlock the wealth that lies within people. The definitions that reinforce the organizational and social aspects understand creativity as a process, which requires knowledge, networks, and technologies that interconnect novel ideas and contexts. The perspectives which reinforce the political aspect see that creativity took the status of a doctrine to secure collaboration between government and industry. However, these notions of creativity stress its instrumental utility and undermine fantasy, play,or uselessness. 展开更多

Based on bibliographic research, the article analyzes how queer architecture challenged gentrification, real estate speculation, and segregation of minorities in creative cities. The results show that the architecture of queer spaces can be understood as a practice of gender and sexual resistance and biopolitical disobedience,as the capitalist architecture worked as a biopolitical technology for producing gender and sexuality and shaping political and sexual identities through techniques of surveillance and the construction of the public/private divide for controlling gender and sexual reproduction. 展开更多

The aim of this paper is to examine the creative queer geography of Daniel Nolasco’s movie Dry Wind. The main argument indicates that, instead of representing countryside cities exclusively as places of repression and denial, the movie shows part of the countryside gay culture. The realism of the fertilizer factory and the aridity of the city of Catalão are opposed to the extreme stylization of vibrant colors and blinding neon lights of the main character’s fetishist imagination, which indicates how he increasingly surrenders to his desires.Beyond the pornographic representation of homoerotic desire,Dry Wind also proposes alternatives for affective expressions of masculinities that do not conform to the prevailing moral standards. 展开更多

The aim of the article is to examine the work in Brazilian creative industries in the new era of globalization. The main argument indicates that creative professionals are increasingly encouraged to assume entrepreneurial skills.Although work in creative industries is typically characterized by expressive, intrinsically motivating, and autonomous content,socio-occupational conditions are typically unfavorable. The adverse work conditions of the Brazilian creative class,in the context of globalization, can be identified in precarious contracts, the lack of social guarantees, the management of fear and moral harassment, and the imposition of unattainable production goals on workers. 展开更多

The clash between the Brazilian president and the local authorities sent confusing signals regarding the COVID-19 pandemic to the population. Many debates were raging across social media on whether people should stay home or keep the economy running.Nevertheless, with the intensification of the pandemic and the prolonged restrictive measures, many people started to disrespect social distancing and, with the premature reopening of the economy in many cities, agglomerate.Even with restrictions on agglomeration by state and municipal governments and the cancellation of traditional New Year’s Eve events in Brazil, the turn of the year was characterized by illegal agglomeration in various states. The aim of the article is to explain why there were so many illegal New Year’s parties—known as CovidFests—in Brazil during the COVID-19 pandemic, despite the restrictions on agglomeration. The main argument indicates that CovidFests are connected to the lack of social belonging in Brazilian society, which reflects the ongoing necropolitics in the country and the dissemination of a furious melancholy, when discouragement becomes destructive. 展开更多
