However, in some cases the clinical symptoms is not typical and nephropathy may be different from diabetic and require the use of renal biopsy (RB) which is not usually indicated unless non-diabetic nephropathy (NND) is suspected. The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of non-diabetic nephropathy (NDN) among the diabetic patients and to analyse the different predictive factors of its occurrence. Patients and methods: It was a retrospective, descriptive and analytical study which is carried out at the nephrology department of Aristide Le DANTEC hospital of Dakar over a period of 60 months. Diabetics with suspected NDN diagnosis based on renal anomalie that is associated with a recent diabetes, Acute renal failure with rapid progress, Diabetic retinopathy’s absence, and Extrarenal signs (cutaneous, digestive and articular) associated with an acute renal failure. Microscopic haematuria was included. The epidemiological, clinical, biological and histological parameters were collected and analysed using the SPSS, 3.5 version software. Results: Out of 34 biopsied diabetic patients, 12 had NDN that is a prevalence of 35, 3%. The average age was 49.88 ± 4.15 years, 0.78 for the sex-ratio and the mean duration of diabetes is 12.53 ± 4.7 years. Glomerular syndrome was found in 30 patients (88.23%), vascular nephropathy syndrome in 3 patients (8.82%) and tubule-interstitial nephropathy syndrome in only one patient (2.94%). Diabetic retinopathy (DR) and microscopic haematuria (HU) respectively existed in 10 patients (34%) and 15 patients (44. 12%). The Kidney biopsy (KB) indications were renal abnormalities associated with recent diabetes, acute renal failure with rapid progress, absence of DR, extrarenal signs associated with acute renal failure and microscopic haematuria. Twenty-two patients (64.7%) had diabetic nephropathy (DN) and 12 patients (38.2%) presented a NDN. Predictive factors of NDN diagnosis were a shorter diabetes duration (P = 0.0008), high blood pressure (P = 0.0015) and absence of DR (P = 0.005). Conclusion: Our data show that kidney injury in a diabetic is not always diabetic nephropathy. The Kidney biopsy (KB) is often needed in order to adopt an effective management.展开更多

These lineaments cross-cut the large north-south oriented transcurrent lithospheric structure known as the Senegalo Malian Discontinuity (SMD). Two lineaments were selected oriented NNE (N15˚ to N25˚), one at Dialafara and one at Sadiola. Four profiles on each lineament of these 2 zones, so that there were 2 on each side of the SMD. The ground data collected were processed using proper parameter and software. Some filters were applied to enhance the signal level. These ground data were later compared to the existing airborne magnetic data for consistency and accuracy using the upward continuation filter. The results show that the quality of ground data is good. In addition, the ground magnetic data show the presence of certain local anomalies that are not visible in the regional data. The analytical signal was also used to determine domain boundaries or possible contact zones. The contact zone can be highlighted on certain profiles such as L300 and L600. The study showed that the west and east sides of the SMD are not the same. Secondary structures become wide when approaching the SMD on both sides. They are also duplicated to the east of the SMD when we move progressively away. In the Dialafara area, the ground magnetic data intersect an interpreted fold. The results of this work confirm the presence of the secondary structures and their evolution in relation to the SMD. The relationships between the secondary structures in the Dailafara and Sadiola zones and their relations with the SMD are highlighted. The technique used in this study, is an important approach to better description and interpreting of regional structures using the secondary structures and proposing a structural model.展开更多

A physically literate individual is expected to be cognitively knowledgeable, physically competent, and mentally motivated for a physically active life throughout the lifespan. The advancement of technology in recent years, especially those in active video games(AVGs), seems to have allowed the mind-body integrated physical activity accessible to children at all ages. This article reviews findings from research and critique research on AVGs in light with the theoretical and pedagogical tenets of physical literacy and, on the basis of the review, elaborates the potential that AVGs could contribute to enhancing children's physical literacy.展开更多

The purpose of this study was to identify the effectiveness of an AVG on elementary school students' science knowledge learning, physical activity (PA) level, and interest-based motivation. Methods: In this randomized controlled study, 53 elementary school students were assigned to an experimental condition or a comparison condition. The experimental condition provided an AVG learning environment, whereas the comparison condition was based on sedentary educational video games. Results: The results of repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) on the knowledge test showed that students in both groups performed better on the post-test than they did on the pre-test (p 〈 0.001, η2 = 0.486), and their post-test scores did not differ significantly. The experimental condition provided a more active environment since the students' average heart rates (HRs) were in the Target-Heart-Rate-Zone (HR = 134 bpm), which was significantly higher than the average HR (103 bpm) from the comparison condition (t = 7.212, p 〈 0.001). Students in the experimental condition perceived a higher level of situational interest than their counterparts in the comparison group (p 〈 0.01, and η2 = 0.301). Conclusion: These results suggest that AVGs benefit children more in terms of PA and motivation than traditional video games by providing an enjoyable learning experience and sufficient PA.展开更多

The purpose of this study was to examine the correlates of long-term physical activity(PA) participation among women. Methods: Female data from Waves I, III, and IV(n = 5381) of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health(Add Health) were used for the analysis. The outcome of PA adherence was operationalized as(1) consistently physically active(at least 5 instances during the week)in both Waves III and IV(during adulthood), and(2) consistently not physically active or only physically active in either Wave III or IV. Predictor variables from Wave I(during adolescence) included race/ethnicity, PA level, self-perception of being physically fit, general health status, attempt to change weight, parents' income level, parents' education, well-being, depression, access to PA resources, days of physical education(PE), and grade level. Crude and adjusted logistic regression models were utilized to estimate the adjusted odds ratio(a OR) and 95% confidence interval(95%CI) for the outcome variable. Results: PA levels during adolescence significantly predicted PA adherence(a OR = 1.67, 95%CI: 1.35–2.05). Additionally, wanting to lose weight(a OR = 1.49, 95%CI: 1.20–1.85), using fitness center in the neighborhood(a OR = 1.29, 95%CI: 1.05–1.58), and having 5 days of PE a week(a OR = 1.48, 95%CI: 1.09–2.02) were significant predictors. Women who did not perceive being physically fit(a OR = 0.65, 95%CI: 0.44–0.95)and Black, non-Hispanics(a OR = 0.60, 95%CI: 0.44–0.82) were less likely to adhere to PA.Conclusion: The findings suggested that physically active adolescents were more likely to become active adults. Future research should address interventions(e.g., PE program, community resources) that may promote lifetime PA in women, with the goal of decreasing morbidity and mortality.展开更多

ASA was analyzed in blood serum and seminal plasma by SpermMar test, Immuno peroxidase assay (IPA) and Enzyme linked immunoabsorbant assay (ELISA). In SpermMar test, about 54% bulls were with >40% IgG in blood serum against sperm surface antigens, whereas none of the bulls were with >10% IgG in seminal plasma. More than 20% and >10% IgA against sperm surface antigens were detected in the blood serum and seminal plasma of 65.8% and 37% bulls, respectively. Out of 26 bulls, seminal plasma of 21 bulls reacted with spermatozoa both in IPA and IgA latex particles and that of only 12 bulls reacted with IgG. In IPA, about 50% of the bulls had >40% ASA against head surface antigens, whereas, there were 23% bulls with >10% ASA in seminal plasma. Also ELISA indicated a higher antibody titre in blood serum (3200 - 6400) and seminal plasma (40 - 80) of 50% and 42% bulls, respectively. There were 11 bulls with low values of HOST/in vitro acrosome reaction/cervical mucus penetration assay and higher level of either serum or seminal plasma ASA. Our study revealed that a significant level of ASA in serum or seminal plasma may have effect on the fertility of bulls by affecting the sperm function.展开更多

However, the association of RAS components to cancer still causes suspicion. To try to clarify this, here we aimed to show this association for three important components: Angiotensin Converting Enzyme 1 (ACE1), Angiotensin Type 1 Receptor (AGTR1) and Angiotensin Type 2 Receptor (AGTR2). The first articles show that association of RAS components with cancer dates back to the 70’s. ECA1 and AGTR1 have close association with cancer and ACE1 inhibitors or AGTR1 blockers are candidates to treatment of some tumors. Moreover, the action of AGTR2 is still controversial, but most studies show that the increased expression of AGTR2 can attack the cancer cells. In breast cancer, these components have also been widely studied and many works have shown that the correlation exists. Therefore specific target using these RAS components could be a beneficial, novel therapy to various tumors.展开更多

We conducted this study to assess QOL of patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis in Dakar, and to identify associated factors. Patients and Methods: This is a cross-sectional study which was carried out from 10 to 30 June, 2011 in the peritoneal dialysis unit at university hospital in Dakar. We included all patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) of any age, who were on PD since at least six months and who gave their consent. The QOL was assessed using the Kidney Disease Quality of Life Short-Form 1.2 (KDQoL-SF). Results: Sixteen patients were included with a mean age of 50.25 ± 13.48 years and a sex-ratio of 1.27. Considering SF-36, the overall mean score (SMG) was 60.11 ± 15.96 with a Mean Physical Component Summary Scale of 53.66 ± 16.98 and a Mental Component Summary Scale of 70.85 ± 6.14. Concerning the KDQoL-SF, the global mean score was 61.83 ± 19.35 with a mean physical score of 50.55 ± 16.52 and a mean mental score of 62.52 ± 21.53. The mean dialysis specific dimension score was 62.52 ± 21.53 and the mean mental health score was 85.93 ± 12.06. Age, weight, level of instruction and social support were correlated with a worse QOL. Conclusion: This study showed an alteration of our PD patients’ QOL, particularly in their physical health. However, the number of patients included in the study is not enough to permit a formal conclusion.展开更多

Fifty percent of patients with proliferative retinopathy had Goldberg’s stage ≥ 3. Conclusion: We found 22.7% of sickle cell retinopathy which proliferative form was strongly represented by the SC genotype.
文摘Introduction: Diabetic nephropathy is the most common cause of kidney disease in diabetics. The Kidney biopsy (KB) is often needed in order to adopt an effective management.
文摘The present study focuses on the analysis and description of lineaments interpreted as secondary structures to describe the nature of Senegalo Malian Discontinuity. The technique used in this study, is an important approach to better description and interpreting of regional structures using the secondary structures and proposing a structural model.

文摘Existing evidence has demonstrated the association between exposure to volatile organic compounds(VOCs)and osteoporosis(OP)risk, but the underlying mechanistic framework remains unclear. This study aimed to explore potential pathways using adverse outcome pathway(AOP)analysis, and evidence this association in middle-to-old-aged American adults using the updated National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data.Multivariable-adjusted general linear and weighted quantile sum models were employed to analyze associations of VOC metabolites(VOCMs),representing internal VOCs exposure levels, with OP-related phenotypes. An AOP framework based on network analysis was developed by extracting target genes and phenotypes.Among 3555 American adults aged≥40 years(539 OP participants),we found that increasing urinary 3-and 4-methylhippuric acid,N-acetyl-S-(n-propyl)-l-cysteine(BPMA),and N-acetyl-S-(3-hydroxypropyl)-l-cysteine were associated with elevated OP odds with odds ratios(ORs)(95%confidence intervals,95%CIs)being 1.254(1.016 to 1.548),1.182(1.014 to 1.377),and 1.244(1.029 to 1.505),respectively,per standard deviation.Urinary BPMA and N-acetyl-S-(2-cyanoethyl)-l-cysteine were inversely associated with lumbar spine bone mineral density(BMD),while urinary N-acetyl-S-(2-hydroxypropyl)-l-cysteine was positively associated with hip BMD.Additionally,OP odds increased by 46.0%(95%CI:3.9%to 105.1%)per quartile increment in the VOC mixture.AOP analysis identified 53 target genes and 9 target phenotypes, and 5 of 9 target phenotypes were oxidative stress(OS)-related.Literature and the“AOP 482”framework implied the core role of OS in the VOC exposure and prevalent OP association, with the interleukin-6 as themolecular initiating event. Our findings provided a theoretical basis for further investigation.
文摘The concept of physical literacy seems to be an abstract idea.Since it emerged in the literature about 25 years ago,it has been a philosophical topic for scholars and intellectuals in the field of physical education(PE).But with the recent adoption of the idea as an operational platform for designing PE curriculum and physical activity programs in Europe and Canada, it has reborn as a practical idea for operation.
文摘The core idea of physical literacy is a mind-body integrated, holistic approach to physical activity. This article reviews findings from research and critique research on AVGs in light with the theoretical and pedagogical tenets of physical literacy and, on the basis of the review, elaborates the potential that AVGs could contribute to enhancing children's physical literacy.
文摘Background: Active educational video games (AVGs) appear to have a positive effect on elementary school students' motivation leading to enhanced learning outcomes. Conclusion: These results suggest that AVGs benefit children more in terms of PA and motivation than traditional video games by providing an enjoyable learning experience and sufficient PA.

文摘The protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B(PTP1B)is an important regulator of metabolism. The relationship between PTP1B and tumors is quite complex. The purpose of this study is to explore the expression pattern and role of PTP1B in breast cancer. The expression of PTP1B was detected in 67 samples of breast cancer tissue by Western blot.Cell growth assay,Transwell migration assay, and Scratch motility assay were used to examine the proliferation and migration of MCF-7 with and without PTP1B.The total levels and phosphorylated levels of signal transduction and activator of transcription 3(STAT3)and the expression of C-C motif chemokine ligand 5(CCL5)were also examined by Western blot.PTP1B was overexpressed in over 70%of breast cancer tissues, correlating with patients with estrogen receptor(ER)-negative,progesterone receptor(PR)-negative,and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER2)-positive tumors. The data also showed that both tumor size and lymph node metastasis were significantly higher in patients with a higher level of PTP1B.The proliferation and migration of MCF-7 cells were found to be inhibited after knocking down the gene of PTP1B.Our data also showed that PTP1B could up-regulate the dephosphorylated level of STAT3,which could increase the expression of CCL5.These phenomena indicated that PTP1B may play a crucial role in the development of breast cancer.
文摘BACKGROUND The relationship between copeptin and the severity of circulatory dysfunction and systemic stress response in patients with chronic liver disease(CLD)has been established.Nevertheless, the potential of serum copeptin levels to predict the prognosis of CLD patients remains unclear.AIM To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the correlation between serum copeptin and transplant-free survival(TFS)in this population.METHODS To achieve the objective of the meta-analysis,PubMed,Embase,the Cochrane Library, and the Web of Science were searched to identify observational studies with longitudinal follow-up.The Cochrane Q test was utilized to assess betweenstudy heterogeneity, and the I2 statistic was estimated.Random-effects models were employed to combine the outcomes, taking into account the potential influence of heterogeneity.RESULTS Ten datasets including 3133 patients were involved. The follow-up durations were 1 to 48 mo(mean:12.5 mo).Overall,it was shown that a high level of serum copeptin was associated with a poor TFS[risk ratio(RR):1.82,95%confidence interval:1.52-2.19,P<0.001;I2=0%].In addition, sensitivity analysis by omitting one dataset at a time showed consistent results(RR:1.73-2.00,P<0.05).Finally,subgroup analyses according to study country, study design, patient diagnosis, cutoff of copeptin,follow-up duration, and study quality score also showed similar results(P for subgroup difference all>0.05).CONCLUSION Patients with CLD who have high serum copeptin concentrations may be associated with a poor clinical prognosis.

文摘Background: Little is known about the factors that may influence women's adherence to moderate-to-vigorous physical activity(MVPA) using longitudinal data. Future research should address interventions(e.g., PE program, community resources) that may promote lifetime PA in women, with the goal of decreasing morbidity and mortality.

文摘In this paper, the flow field characteristics of Oblique Detonation Waves(ODWs)induced by a finite wedge under argon dilution are studied by solving the Euler equations with a detailed chemical model of hydrogen and air.First, the effects of the expansion waves, argon concentration, geometric parameters, and Mach number on the ODW are discussed. The results show that the changes of these parameters may make the oblique detonation not be initiated. Then, the ODW initiation criterion of the finite wedge is summarized,as the characteristic length of the induction zone LCand the characteristic length of the oblique wedge LWmeet the condition LC/LW<1,the initiation of the ODW occurs;otherwise,it does not occur. What’s more, the Constant Volume Combustion(CVC)theory is applied to study the characteristic length of induction zone.It is found that CVC theory is more suitable for the“smooth transition”type of ODW flow field, the theoretical and numerical characteristic length in induction regions are in good agreement. This work is of great significance for the design of oblique detonation engines for hypersonic vehicles.

文摘The study was planned with an objective to assess the level of antisperm antibodies (ASA) in the blood serum and seminal plasma of breeding cow bulls and their relationship with sperm function and fertility tests. Our study revealed that a significant level of ASA in serum or seminal plasma may have effect on the fertility of bulls by affecting the sperm function.

文摘Renin-Angiotensin System (RAS) is involved with hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases. Therefore specific target using these RAS components could be a beneficial, novel therapy to various tumors.
文摘Introduction: Measuring the quality of life (QOL) in recent years has become an indispensable tool in monitoring patients suffering from chronic diseases. However, the number of patients included in the study is not enough to permit a formal conclusion.
