Objectives:The prevalence of cyber-aggression is increasing worldwide, resulting in significant negative impacts on both perpetrators and victims. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between cyber-ostracism and cyber-aggression among college students, clarify the role of various types of rumination in this dynamic. Methods:A total of 1198 Chinese college students(67.4%female;mean age 20.78 years;SD=1.12)were recruited through cluster random sampling and completed the Cyber-ostracism Experience Scale(COES),Positive and Negative Rumination Scale(PANRS),and Adolescent Online Aggression Behavior Scale(AOABS).Thestructural equation model(SEM)was employed to examine the relationship between cyber-ostracism,negative rumination, and cyber-aggression,as well as the moderating effect of positive rumination. Results:The results indicate that cyber-ostracism(β=0.128,p<0.001)positively predicts cyber-aggression.Negative ruminationmediates this relationship(effect size=0.027,95%CI=[0.007,0.014]).Positive rumination moderates the direct effect of cyber-ostracism on cyber-aggression(β=0.103,p<0.001).It alsomoderates both the first half(β=0.148,p<0.001)and the second half(β=0.138,p<0.001)of themediating pathway. Conclusion:This study suggests that cyber-ostracism influences cyber-aggression through negative rumination among Chinese college students.Positive rumination moderates this effect, although its impact is relatively limited. These findings offer valuable guidance for preventing and intervening in cyber-aggression among college students. 展开更多

Identification and classification, as well as mapping of marine habitats, are of primary importance to plan management activities, especially in disturbed ecosystems like the ones in the marine areas of Bahrain. Remotely sensed Landsat-8 imagery coupled with field survey was used to identify, classify and map the benthic habitats in Bahrain marine area. The used geospatial techniques include advanced image processing procedures, which comprise of radiometric and atmospheric corrections, sun glint removal, water depth correction and image classification. Extensive ground-truthing analyses through in-situ field surveys by a team of scuba divers were conducted in October 2014 and June 2015 to inform and refine the classifications. The variables collected from this survey included physical and chemical characteristics of the water, habitat type, substrata, fauna and flora. A total of 176 field points were collected and utilized to perform an accurate assessment of the image classification. Initial habitat classification resulted in 20 habitat categories. However, due to the inability of the Landsat-8 sensors to accurately discriminate that level of classification, categories were merged into seven classes. The derived map shows that the benthic marine habitats of Bahrain consist of deep water (2,523 km2), rock (1,738 km2), sand (1,191 km2), deep water/sand (1,006 km2), algae (922 km2), seagrass (591 km2) and corals (275.50 km2). Although limited by the spatial and spectral resolutions of Landsat 8, the used methods produced a suitable map of the benthic habitats within the marine area of Bahrain with an overall accuracy of 84.1%. The use of very high spatial resolution satellite imagery will most likely increase such accuracy significantly. 展开更多

Background:Compatibility is a characteristic of the clinical application of traditional Chinese medicine, often leading to enhanced therapeutic effects. In the treatment of cerebral ischemia,blood-activating and open orifices herbs are frequently used individually;however, their combination is not commonly practiced. This study aims to investigate the impact of combining safflower and borneol as examples of open orifices herbs and blood-activating herbs on the neurovascular unit in rats with ischemic stroke. The objective is to determine whether this combination exhibits superior therapeutic efficacy compared to using borneol or safflower alone while exploring its underlying mechanism. These findings may provide novel insights for clinical treatments. Methods:SD male rats were randomly divided into 6 groups:sham operation group, model group, borneol group(0.1 g/kg),safflower group(5 g/kg),borneol combined with safflower group(0.1 g/kg+5 g/kg)and nimodipine group(0.01 g/kg).The middle cerebral artery cerebral ischemia(MCAO)model were prepared after continuous intragastric administration for 7 days in each group, the neurological function of each group were scored 24h after operation, and water content in brain tissue were measured by weighing method. The activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD)and the contents of nitric oxide(NO)and malondialdehyde(MDA)in brain tissue and serum were determined by spectrophotometry, and the mRNA expressions of matrix metalloproteinase 2(MMP-2),tight junction protein 1(ZO-1),vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)and brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)were detected by Real time PCR.Result:Compared with the model group, the group treated with borneol combined with safflower exhibited a significant decrease in the neural function score of MCAO rats(P<0.01).Additionally,it led to a reduction in brain tissue water content(P<0.01),elevated SOD activity, and reduced levels of NO and MDA in both serum and brain tissue(P<0.01 or P<0.05).Moreover,this treatment resulted in a decrease in the mRNA expression of MMP-2 and an increase in ZO-1 in brain tissue, along with an increase in the mRNA expression of VEGF and BDNF(P<0.01).Conclusion:Borneol combined with safflower demonstrates a protective effect on the neurovascular unit in rats with ischemic stroke. This effect is likely associated with increased SOD activity, reduced MDA and NO content in both serum and brain tissue of MCAO rats, and a decrease in MMP-2 mRNA expression in brain tissue, coupled with an increase in ZO-1,VEGF,and BDNF mRNA expression. These effects were superior to those observed with borneol or safflower administered alone. 展开更多

Whilst most bioorthogonal reactions focus on targeting binding-site cysteine residues,proximity-induced reactivity effect ensures that reaction also occurs at nucleophilic lysine residues. We report one example here that the propargylated-sulfonium center undergoes a nucleophilic reaction with lysine residue via proximity-induced conjugation. This propargylated-sulfonium tethered peptide resulting from a facile propargylation of thiolethers, enables amino-yne reaction at the selected lysine on MDM4 protein. This strategy represents a viable approach of lysine-targeted covalent inhibition in proximity. 展开更多

Ex situ conservation is the main method for the protection of endangered wildlife. To explore the effect of ex situ conservation on the gut microbiota of the kiang(Equus kiang),metagenomic sequencing combined with bioinformatics analysis was used to investigate the composition and function of the gut microbiota of the kiang. The results showed that ex situ conservation not only protected wildlife, but also affected the composition and function of gut microbiota,as well as the health of animals. In the zoo,the ratio of the relative abundance of Firmicutes to that of Bacteroidetes(F/B)is higher, clusters of potentially pathogenic bacteria(such as Catonella,Catonella, and Mycoplasma)are more numerous, the abundance of resistance genes is higher, and the abundance of metabolic functions is increased. The dynamic changes of the gut microbiota also played an important role in the nutritional absorption, energy metabolism, and environmental adaptation of the kiang.Improving the rearing environment and increasing food diversity play important roles for increasing the diversity of gut microbiota, reducing the spread of potentially pathogenic bacteria, and reducing diseases. In the wild, especially in winter and in food-deficient areas, food supplementation can enhance the gut microbial homeostasis of wild animals and reduce the impact of crises. In depth studies of the gut microbial function of wildlife have important implications for improving ex situ conservation. 展开更多

Background:Digital exclusion is a global issue that disproportionately affects older individuals especially in low-and middle-income nations. However, there is a wide gap in current research regarding the impact of digital exclusion on the mental health of older adults in both high-income and low-and middle-income countries. Methods:We analyzed data from 5 longitudinal cohorts:the Health and Retirement Study(HRS),the English Longitudinal Study of Aging(ELSA),the Survey of Health,Ageing and Retirement in Europe(SHARE),the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study(CHARLS),and the Mexican Health and Aging Study(MHAS).These cohorts consisted of nationwide samples from 24 countries.Digital exclusion was defined as the self-reported lack of access to the internet.Depressive symptoms were assessed using comparable scales across all cohorts. We used generalized estimating equation models, fitting a Poisson model,to investigate the association between the digital exclusion and depressive symptoms. We adjusted for the causal directed acyclic graph(DAG)minimal sufficient adjustment set(MSAS),which includes gender, age, retirement status, education, household wealth, social activities, and weekly contact with their children. Results:During the study period(2010–2018),122,242 participants underwent up to 5 rounds of follow-up.Digital exclusion varied greatly across countries, ranging from 21.1%in Denmark to 96.9%in China. The crude model revealed a significant association between digital exclusion and depressive symptoms. This association remained statistically significant in the MSAS-adjusted model across all cohorts:HRS[incidence rate ratio(IRR),1.37;95% confidence interval(CI),1.28 to 1.47],ELSA(IRR,1.32;95%CI,1.23 to 1.41),SHARE(IRR,1.30;95%CI,1.27 to 1.33),CHARLS(IRR,1.62;95%CI,1.38 to 1.91),and MHAS(IRR,1.31;95%CI,1.26 to 1.37);all Ps<0.001.Notably,this association was consistently stronger in individuals living in lower wealth quintile households across all 5 cohorts and among those who do not regularly interact with their children, except for ELSA.Conclusions:Digital exclusion is globally widespread among older adults.Older individuals who are digitally excluded are at a higher risk of developing depressive symptoms, particularly those with limited communication with their offspring and individuals living in lower wealth quintile households.Prioritizing the provision of internet access to older populations may help reduce the risks of depression symptoms, especially among vulnerable groups with limited familial support and with lower income. 展开更多

An occasional presence of bivalent stimuli in a block of univalent trials can elicit a slowing of the response on all subsequent univalent trials. This type of modulation of cognitive control is termed the bivalency effect. To explore whether this modulation is task specific, this study used a triplet task switching paradigm, with three following tasks that were presented concussively:a shape color judgment(red vs.blue),a number parity judgment(odd vs.even),and a letter case judgment(lowercase vs.upper-case).The event-related potential(ERP)results showed that(1)the bivalency effect was reflected by the decreased amplitude of N2 and P3a over the frontal region for both the color and letter tasks;(2)the bivalency effect occurred earlier for the color task compared with that for the letter task;(3)for the number parity task, the bivalency effect was observed in the increased N1 and the decreased P2p over the parietal region. These findings indicate that the modulation of cognitive control is task-specific after the presentation of bivalent stimuli in task switching. 展开更多

The impact of insecure attachment on hoarding behavior(HB)has been supported by empirical evidence. However, scant literature has focused on how anthropomorphism(attributing human-like traits, characteristics,or emotions to nonhuman objects)and hoarding beliefs(motivations for ownership)affect the relationship between insecure attachment and HB,especially among Chinese adolescents.Using a cross-sectional study,we reserved 903 participants(561 males,342 females,M=20.20,SD=1.85,age range=18-24 years)to complete self-report questionnaires about close relationships, anthropomorphism, saving beliefs, and saving inventory to investigate the mediating role of anthropomorphism and the moderating role of hoarding beliefs in the relationship between insecure attachment and HB.Attachment anxiety and avoidance had a positive relationship with HB,and anthropomorphism is a mediating factor in the association between attachment anxiety and HB.In addition, hoarding beliefs moderated the relationship between attachment anxiety and HB.This study further elaborated on the relationships between insecure attachment, anthropomorphism, hoarding beliefs, and HB,which might shed some light on adolescent clinical interventions. 展开更多

The study aimed to examine the indirect factors underlying the association between work–family conflict and posttraumatic stress symptoms(PTSS)in college teachers during the COVID-19 pandemic.Three potential indirect factors were examined:perceived stress, basic psychological needs, and rumination.A total of 274 college teachers were recruited. All participants completed an electronic questionnaire that assessed their exposure to the pandemic, work–family conflict, perceived stress, basic psychological needs, rumination, and PTSS.The results showed that after controlling for pandemic exposure, gender, and age, work–family conflict was associated with PTSS via perceived stress alone, rumination alone,a path from perceived stress to basic psychological needs, and a path from perceived stress to rumination. These results indicate that work–family conflict is positively associated with PTSS indirectly via perceived stress, rumination, and basic psychological needs during the COVID-19 pandemic. These three mediators may completely explain the relation of work–family conflict to PTSS. 展开更多
