We investigated the parametric optimization on incremental sheet forming of stainless steel using Grey Relational Analysis(GRA) coupled with Principal Component Analysis(PCA). AISI 316L stainless steel sheets were used to develop double wall angle pyramid with aid of tungsten carbide tool. GRA coupled with PCA was used to plan the experiment conditions. Control factors such as Tool Diameter(TD), Step Depth(SD), Bottom Wall Angle(BWA), Feed Rate(FR) and Spindle Speed(SS) on Top Wall Angle(TWA) and Top Wall Angle Surface Roughness(TWASR) have been studied. Wall angle increases with increasing tool diameter due to large contact area between tool and workpiece. As the step depth, feed rate and spindle speed increase,TWASR decreases with increasing tool diameter. As the step depth increasing, the hydrostatic stress is raised causing severe cracks in the deformed surface. Hence it was concluded that the proposed hybrid method was suitable for optimizing the factors and response. 展开更多

Cubic boron nitride particles coated by titanium nitride (TiN/cBN) as well as diamond particles coated by titanium carbide (TiC/diamond) were prepared by Ti molten salt deposition followed by heat-treatment process. cBN or diamond particles were mixed separately with Ti powders and molten salts (KCl, NaCl and K<sub>2</sub>TiF<sub>6</sub>). The mixture was heated at 900 &deg;C under argon atmosphere. The produced particles were heat-treated under hydrogen at 1000 &deg;C. The morphologies and chemical compositions of the produced particles were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and focused ion beam (FIB). The results show that the cBN and the diamond particles are coated by nano-sized Ti layers. By heat-treatment of the Ti/cBN and TiC/diamond coated particles under hydrogen atmosphere, the deposited Ti layers were interacted by the in-situ transformation reaction with the surfaces of cBN and diamond particles and converted to titanium compounds (TiN and TiC), respectively. 展开更多

The effects of Sr,Mg,Cr,Sr/Mg and Sr/Cr combined additions on the Fe-containing intermetallic phase in a recycled Al-Si-Fe cast alloy are investigated.The experimental results show that the additions of Cr and Sr/Cr successfully modified the platelet and flake-likeβ-Al-5FeSi phases (β-compound) into the fibrousα-Al-8Fe-2Si (α-compound).The additions of Sr and Sr/Mg were less effective to modify theβ-compound into theα-compound,while the eutectic Si was fully modified into the fibrous morphology.A small secondary dendrite arm spacing (DAS) was found in the Sr-added,Cr-added and Sr/Cr-added alloys,especially in a steel mold.The Sr,Sr/Cr and Sr/Mg combined additions modify the eutectic Si simultaneously.A sludge phase was found in the addition of Cr-added,Sr/Cr-added and Mg-added alloys,especially in the graphite mold casting.The volume fraction ofβ-compounds was decreased by the addition of various modifying elements. The purpose of this paper was to investigate the effects of solution treatment time and Sr-modification on the microstructure and property of the Al-Si piston alloy.It was found that as-cast microstructures of unmodified and Sr-modified Al-Si alloys consisted of a coarse acicular plate of eutectic Si,Cu_3NiAl_6 and Mg_2Si phases in theα-Al matrix but different in size and morphology.Both size and inter-particle spacing of Si particles were significantly changed by increasing the solution treatment time.After a short solution treatment,the coarse acicular plate of the eutectic Si appears to be fragmented.Fully modified microstructure of Sr-modified alloy can reduce the solution treatment time compared to unmodified alloy.The maximum of a peak hardness value is found in the very short solution treatment of both Al-Si piston alloys.Compared to 10 h solution treatment,the solution treatment of 2-4 h is sufficient to achieve appropriate microstructures and hardness. The short solution treatment is very useful to increase the productivity and to reduce the manufacturing cost of the Al-Si piston alloys. 展开更多

The effect of iron addition on the microstructure, mechanical and magnetic properties of Al-matrix composite was studied. Mechanical mixing was used for the preparation of 0, 5%, 10% and 15% Fe-Al composites(mass fraction). Mixtures of Al-Fe were compacted and sintered in a vacuum furnace at 600 °C for 1 h. X-ray diffraction(XRD) of the samples containing 5% and 10% Fe indicates the presence of Al and Fe peaks, while sample containing 15% Fe reveals Al and Al13Fe4 peaks. The results show that both densification and thermal conductivity of the composites decrease by increasing the iron content. The presence of iron in the composite improves the compressive strength and the hardness. The strengthening mechanism is associated with the grain refinement of the matrix and uniform distribution of the Fe particles, as well as the formation of Al13Fe4 intermetallic. The measured magnetization values are equal to 0.3816×10-3 A·m2/g for 5% Fe sample and increases up to 0.6597×10-3 A·m2/g for 10% Fe sample, then decreases to 0.0702×10-3 A·m2/g for 15% Fe sample. This can be explained by the formation of the diamagnetic Al13Fe4 intermetallic compound in the higher Fe content sample detected by XRD analysis. 展开更多

Silicon carbide particulate (SiCp) reinforced cast aluminium (A1) based metal matrix composites (MMCs) have gained wide acceptance in the fabrication of light weight structures requiring high specific strength, high temperature capability and good wear resistance. Friction stir welding (FSW) process parameters play major role in deciding the performance of welded joints. The ultimate tensile strength, notch tensile strength and weld nugget hardness of friction stir butt welded joints of cast A1/SiCp MMCs (AA6061 with 20% (volume fraction) of SiCp) were investigated. The relationships between the FSW process parameters (rotational speed, welding speed and axial force) and the responses (ultimate tensile strength, notch tensile strength and weld nugget hardness) were established. The optimal welding parameters to maximize the mechanical properties were identified by using desirability approach. From this investigation, it is found that the joints fabricated with the tool rotational speed of 1370 r/min, welding speed of 88.9 mm/min, and axial force of 9.6 kN yield the maximum ultimate tensile strength, notch tensile strength and hardness of 265 MPa, 201 MPa and HV 114, respectively. 展开更多

In this present work siliconized e-glass fibre reinforced epoxy resin composite has been prepared and compared with acid and base treated e-glass fibre epoxy composites to know the significant advantage of silane treatment on fibre. The composites were fabricated by laying 20, 30 and 40vol% of e-glass fibre into epoxy resin matrix. The e-glass fibre woven mat was surface treated by an amine functional coupling agent 3-Aminopropyletrimethoxysilane(APTMS). The fibres were surface treated by aqueous solution method and thermo assisted to create silinol groups. Similarly for acid treatment H_2SO_4 and base treatment Na OH with 1N concentration was used for surface treating the fibres. Effectiveness of silane treatment on glass fibre was compared by inter laminar shear strength test according to ASTM D 2344.Drilling process with varying diameter drill bit and varying cutting speed was applied to check the composites for their delamination resistance while machining. Maximum improvement of 15%, 12.5% and9%(20, 30 and 40 vol %) on ILSS was achieved for siliconized e-glass fibre reinforced epoxy composites.The scanning electron microscopy images revealed that no fibre pull out was present on fractured surfaces of composites which contains siliconized e-glass fibre. Similarly better dimensional accuracy was achieved on drilling process for composites contains siliconized e-glass fibre. 展开更多

In the present work, the effect of hexagonal cell size of the core on the fundamental natural frequency of FRP honey-comb sandwich panels has been analyzed both experimentally and by finite element technique. Experimental Modal tests were conducted on hexagonal cell honeycombs ranging in size from 8 mm to 20 mm maintaining the facing thickness constant at around 1mm with two different boundary conditions viz C-F-F-F and C-F-C-F. The traditional “strike method” has been used to measure the vibration properties. The modal characteristics of the specimens have been obtained by studying its impulse response. Each specimen has been subjected to impulses through a hard tipped hammer which is provided with a force transducer and the response has been measured through the accelerometer. The impulse and the response are processed through a computer aided FFT Analyzing test system in order to extract the modal parameters with the aid of software. Theoretical investigations have been attempted with appropriate assumptions to understand the behavior of the honeycomb sandwich panels during dynamic loading and to validate experimental results. Finite Element modeling has been done treating the facing as an orthotropic laminate and Core as orthotropic with different elastic constants as recommended in the literature. The results are presented which show that the theoretical model can accurately predict the fundamental frequency and how honeycombs with difference cell size will perform under dynamic loads. 展开更多

Fabrication, Microstructure, Thermal and Electrical Properties of Copper Heat Sink Composites

Copper as well as copper base composites reinforced with coated and uncoated 1 wt% diamond, graphite particles or short carbon fibers are prepared by powder metallurgy process. The reinforcement particles were encapsulated with silver as well as copper layer by using the electroless deposition technique to investigate the influence of the reinforcement surface coating on the microstructure, density, electrical and thermal properties of the sintered samples. The coated and the uncoated powders were cold compacted at 600 MPa, and then sintered at 1173 K (900&deg;C) for 2 h under hydrogen atmosphere. The phase composition, morphology and microstructure of the prepared powders as well as the copper base sintered composites were investigated using X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) equipped with an Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS) respectively. The density of the sintered composites was measured by Archimedes method. The copper base consolidated composites had a density up to 96% and the reinforcement coated particles were distributed uniformly within the copper matrix better than the uncoated one. The electrical resistivity at room temperature and the heat transfer conduction of the produced samples were measured in a temperature range between 323 K (50&deg;C) and 393 K (120&deg;C). The results observed that the sintered materials prepared from the coated powder have lower electrical resistivity than the sintered materials prepared from the mixed powders. On the other hand the thermal conductivity values were calculated using the heat transfer conduction values by means of the Fourier formula. The results observed that the thermal conductivity of copper is (391 W/m&middot;K), 1 wt% diamond/Cu is (408 W/m&middot;K), 1 wt% graphite coated silver/Cu is (393 W/m&middot;K), 1 wt% Cu coated short carbon fiber/Cu is (393 W/m&middot;K), graphite/Cu is (383 W/m&middot;K) and short carbon fiber/Cu is (382 W/m&middot;K). The obtained composites are expected to be suitable for heat sink applications. The heat transfer testing experiments were done. The forced convection of the present work was done and compared with the previous work in the literature, and satisfactory agreement was achieved. 展开更多

In recent decades,a series of policies and practices for environmental flows(e-flows)have been implemented in China,with the sustainable development goal of balancing the utilization and protection of water resources among social,economic,and ecological needs.The aims of this study were to determine the main challenges and issues in e-flows implementation at different scales by analyzing policies and practices for eflows in China,and to propose some recommendations for bridging the gaps between the science and implementation of e-flows.The gaps between the science and implementation of e-flows were found after review of literature,policies,and practices,and it was found that ecological flow was a more widely used term by the government,rather than e-flows,in implementation.The plans and effects of e-flows implementation are discussed in this paper and challenges of e-flows implementation are recognized:(1)limited water resources and uneven spatial and temporal distribution,(2)a weak scientific basis for e-flows implementation,(3)poor operability of e-flows science,and(4)ineffective supervision and guarantee measures.The recommendations are(1)to strengthen the scientific foundation of e-flows,(2)to improve effectiveness in application of e-flows science,and(3)to propose operable and effective supervision and guarantee measures.This paper elaborates the current understanding of e-flows science and provides practical recommendations for implementing e-flows and for improving the effectiveness in e-flows implementation.To bridge the gaps between science and implementation of e-flows and improve the operability of policies in future practices,more scientific research on practices is recommended through adaptive management. 展开更多

Accurate carbon price forecasting is essential to provide the guidance for production and investment.Current research is mainly dependent on plenty of historical samples of carbon prices,which is impractical for the newly launched carbon market due to its short history.Based on the idea of transfer learning,this paper proposes a novel price forecasting model,which utilizes the correlation between the new and mature markets.The model is firstly pretrained on large data of mature market by gated recurrent unit algorithm,and then fine-tuned by the target market samples.An integral framework,including complexity decomposition method for data pre-processing,sample entropy for feature selection,and support vector regression for result post-processing,is provided.In the empirical analysis of new Chinese market,the root mean square error,mean absolute error,mean absolute percentage error,and determination coefficient of the model are 0.529,0.476,0.717%and 0.501 respectively,proving its validity. 展开更多
