However, the relationship between them remains insufficiently studied, especially in healthy people. Navigated transcranial magnetic stimulation(n TMS) is increasingly used in language mapping. While enjoying the advantage of non-invasiveness, it is also capable of inducing a virtual lesion in the brain. Thus, it offers the possibility of using the virtuallesion method to study the healthy brain. This study combined n TMS and diffusion tensor imaging(DTI)tractography to investigate the relationship between essential language sites and the AF in 30 healthy right-handedvolunteers. A total of 143 essential language sites were identified using n TMS, and a total of 175 AF terminations were identified using DTI tractography. Sixty-six sites had a direct correlation with the AF, accounting for 46% of the total essential language sites. Forty-seven AF terminations harbored essential language sites, accounting for 27% of the total AF terminations. Upon data rendering to the cortical parcellation system, a region-related heterogeneity of the correlation rate was found. This study provides the first data on the relationship between essential language sites and the AF in healthy adults.展开更多

We describe a patient with an RCH that occurred after a frontal lobectomy for an intracranial tumor. A 41-year-old female patient with a headache and partial seizures underwent a right frontal lobectomy upon detection of a right frontal mass. An RCH (zebra sign) was detected on a control cranial computed tomography (CT), which was performed upon detection of frontal lobe syndrome and mild ataxia in the patient postoperatively. Although the mechanism underlying the occurrence of RCHs after intracranial procedures is not clear, they have been attributed to an imbalance between intravascular pressure and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) due to rapid drainage of the fluid, causing bleeding in the cerebellar parenchyma. Generally, bilateral superior cerebellar injury produces parallel flat hyperdense areas known as the zebra sign on CT. The prognosis of a cerebellar hemorrhage is generally good, and it can be treated with a conservative approach. Controlled drainage of CSF during surgery and selecting an appropriate surgical position perioperatively will reduce the risk of RCHs.展开更多

Currently, the only proven treatment for ischemic stroke is restoring the cerebral blood supply. In addition, some of the tissue is damaged during the subsequent reperfusion because of the overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Furthermore, antioxidant therapies have shown promise in preclinical studies for the treatment of ischemia-reperfusion injury. However, their therapeutic efficacy has been limited because of their low bioavailability in brain. To resolve this issue, we synthesized ROS-responsive, fan-shaped dendrimer nanoparticles (NPs) and conjugated them with a blood-brain barrier (BBB)-targeting peptide, COG1410, and salvianic acid A (SA), which is an effective antioxidant in ischemic stroke. The BBB targeting peptide acts as a ligand of the nanocarrier system and penetrates the BBB through the endocytosis of the ligand receptor. The results showed that T-SA-NPs not only target and accumulate in the infarct area, they also reduce over 2 times of the infarct area and reverse the behavioral deficits in MCAO mice, which illustrates that these NPs have an effective therapeutic effect on the ischemic stroke. In addition, these NPs had no toxicity in any organs of the body. Importantly, the present study provides an alternative strategy for delivering antioxidants to the brain and achieving targeted therapy of ischemic stroke.展开更多
