Here, we assumed that major ozonated autohemotherapy contributes to recovery of clinical function, possibly by reducing remote injury after acute cerebral infarction. Sixty acute cerebral infarction patients aged 30-80 years were equally and randomly allocated to ozone treatment and control groups. Patients in the ozone treatment group received medical treatment and major ozonated autohemotherapy (47 mg/L, 100 mL ozone) for 10 ± 2 days. Patients in the control group received medical treatment only. National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score, modified Rankin scale score, and reduced degree of fractional anisotropy values of brain magnetic resonance diffusion tensor imaging were remarkably decreased, brain function improved, clinical efficiency significantly increased, and no obvious adverse reactions detected in the ozone treatment group compared with the control group. These findings suggest that major ozonated autohemotherapy promotes recovery of neurological function in acute cerebral infarction patients by reducing re,note injury, and additionally, exhibits high safety.展开更多

The present study aimed to detect functional imaging features of cerebral cortex in central dysphagia patients by using blood oxygen level-depen- dent functional magnetic resonance imaging techniques. The results showed that when normal controls swallowed, primary motor cortex (BA4), insula (BA13), premotor cortex (BA6/8), supramarginal gyrus (BA40), and anterior cingulate cortex (BA24/32) were activated, and that the size of the activated areas were larger in the left hemisphere compared with the right. In re- current cerebral infarction patients with central dysphagia, BA4, BA13, BA40 aild BA6/8 areas were activated, while the degree of activation in BA24/32 was decreased. Additionally, more areas were activated, including posterior cingulate cortex (BA23/31), visual association cortex (BA18/19), primary auditory cortex (BA41) and parahippocampal cortex (BA36). Somatosen- sory association cortex (BA7) and left cerebellum in patients with recurrent cerebral infarction with central dysphagia were also activated. Experimental findings suggest that the cerebral cortex has obvious hemisphere lateralization in response to swallowing, and patients with recurrent cerebral infarction with central dysphagia show compensatory recombination phenomena of neurological functions. In rehabilitative treatment, using the favorite food of patients can stimu- late swallowing through visual, auditory, and other nerve conduction pathways, thus promoting compensatory recombination of the central cortex functions.展开更多

Magnetic resonance imaging can be used to judge and assess the extent of edema and to evaluate pathological changes and thus may be used for the evaluation of spinal cord injuries caused by radiation therapy. Radioactive ^125I seeds to irradiate 90% of the spinal cord tissue at doses of 40–100 Gy (D90) were implanted in rabbits at T10 to induce radiation injury, and we evaluated their safety for use in the spinal cord. Diffusion tensor imaging showed that with increased D90, the apparent diffusion coefficient and fractional anisotropy values were increased. Moreover, pathological damage of neurons and microvessels in the gray matter and white matter was aggravated. At 2 months after implantation, obvious pathological injury was visible in the spinal cords of each group. Magnetic resonance diffusion tensor imaging revealed the radiation injury to the spinal cord, and we quantified the degree of spinal cord injury through apparent diffusion coefficient and fractional anisotropy.展开更多

METHODS: Sixty patients with tumor and 20 controls were enrolled in this study. Perfusion CT parameters of patients and controls were compared, including hepatic perfusion index (HPI), mean transit time (MTT), and permeability-surface area product (PS). Correlation between perfusion CT parameters, treatment cycle and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) level was studied. RESULTS: No difference was found in HPI (25.68% ± 7.38% vs 26.82% ± 5.13%), MTT (19.67 ± 5.68 s vs21.70 ± 5.43 s) and PS (17.00 ± 4.56 mL/100 mL per min vs 19.92 ± 6.35 mL/100 mL per min) between pa- tients and controls. The HPI and MTT were significantly higher in patients undergoing 2 cycles of chemotherapy than in controls and those undergoing 1 cycle of che- motherapy (29.76% ± 5.87% vs 25.68% ± 7.38% and 25.35% ± 4.05%, and 25.61 ± 5.01 s vs 19.67 ± 5.68 s and 19.74 ± 4.54 s, respectively, P < 0.05). The HPI was higher in patients with hepatic steatosis than in controls and those without hepatic steatosis (30.85% ± 6.17% vs 25.68% ± 7.38% and 25.70% ± 4.24%, P < 0.05). Treatment cycle was well correlated with HPI and MTT (r = 0.40, r = 0.50, P < 0.01). ALT level was not correlated with perfusion CT parameters. CONCLUSION: HPI and MTT are significantly increased in patients with tumor during chemotherapy and well correlated with treatment cycle. Chemotherapy affects hepatic microcirculation in patients with tumor. Changes in hepatic microcirculation can be quantitatively assessed by perfusion CT.展开更多

In this study, we performed independent component analysis of blood oxygenation signals from 14 heroin users and 13 matched normal controls in the resting state through functional MRI scans. Results showed that the default mode network was significantly activated in the prefrontal lobe, posterior cingulated cortex and hippocampus of heroin users, and an enhanced activation signal was observed in the right inferior parietal Iobule (P 〈 0.05, corrected for false discovery rate). Experimental findings indicate that the default mode network is altered in heroin users.展开更多

The majority of studies focus on lesions of the corticospinal tract on appearance and function, whereas observation of normal corticospinal pathways can also improve understanding of lesion outcomes. OBJECTIVE: To observe the normal adult corticospinal tract using a diffusion tensor imaging technique to analyze fractional anisotropy (FA) in different levels of the brain. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Neuroimaging observation was performed in the MRI Department, First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical College in China, from October 2005 to October 2008. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 30 healthy adults were selected from the Department of MRI, First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical College in China, from October 2005 to October 2008, and people with nervous system symptoms and signs were excluded. METHODS: Participants with normal conventional MRI results underwent diffusion tensor imaging examination in a 1.5 T GE MRI (slice thickness 4-5 mm, slice gap 0) for gradient data acquisition from 15 directions. The scanning involved the entire brain from the inferior medulla oblongata to the inferior cranial plate. Imaging post-processing was performed to obtain FA values; a paired t-test was applied for statistical analysis. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: FA values of the bilateral corticospinal tract in the medulla oblongata, pons, cerebral peduncle, basal ganglia, corona radiata, and centrum semiovale. RESULTS: FA values in the medulla oblongata and centrum semiovale were similar (P 〉 0.01). FA values of left corticospinal tract were significantly greater than the right side in the pons, cerebral peduncle, basal ganglia and corona radiata (P 〈 0.01). CONCLUSION: FA values vary by brain levels, including pons, cerebral peduncle, basal ganglia, and corona radiata. Moreover, FA values of the left corticospinal tract pathway were greater than the right side, which may relate to right handedness.展开更多

Methods: Seventy-four consecutive patients who were diagnosed clinically for the prostate diseases, including forty-four cases with benign prostate hyperplasia and thirty cases with prostatic cancer proved pathologically, were examined by PWI. MVD and VEGF were stained with immunohistochemical methods. Some parameters of PWl, including the steepest slope of signal intensity-time curve (SSmax) and the change in relaxation rate (ΔR2^* peak) at lesions, were analyzed. Correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between the results of PWl and immunohistochemistry. Results: (1) In the benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH), SSmax and ΔR2^* peak of perfusion curve were 34.2 ± 2.9 and 1.49 ± 0.11, respectively; however, in the prostatic cancer (Pca), they were 58.6± 4.8 and 3.18 ±0.49 respectively; there were statistical differences (t = 2.16 and 2.31, P 〈 0.05). (2) The VEGF and MVD expressions of thirty Pca patients were significantly higher than those of forty-four BPH patients (x2 = 28.64, P 〈 0.01; t = 21.2, P 〈 0.01). MVD expressions of Pca and BPH groups showed positive associations with VEGF expressions (P 〈 0.01). On MR perfusion-weighted imaging, SSmax and ΔR2^* peak showed associations with MVD and VEGF expressions (P 〈 0.01). Conclusion: On MR perfusion-weighted imaging, SSmax and ΔR2^* peak can reflect MVD and VEGF expression levels in the benign and malignant prostate diseases and might be implied the tumor angiogenesis so as to distinguish benign from malignant and provide the important information for the surgeon to diagnose and treat the prostatic diseases.展开更多

METHODS: K-ras gene point mutation and its style at codon 12 of human pancreatic cancer cell line Patu8988 were detected by using polymerase chain reaction with special sequence primers (PCR-SSP) and sequence analysis. According to the mutation style, K-ras mutation ASODN specifi c to K-ras point mutation at codon 12 was designed and composed. After K-ras ASODN and IGF-IR ASODN treated on Patu8988 cells respectively or cooperatively, the proliferation and morphological change of Patu8988 cells were analyzed by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, colony forming assay andtransmission electron microscopy; the expression of K-ras and IGF-IR mRNA and protein in the treated cells was measured by reverse-transcript polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and flow cytometry respectively; apoptosis was determined by flow cytometry. The combined antitumor activity of K-ras ASODN and IGF-IR ASODN was evaluated in BALB/c nude mice bearing human pancreatic cancer inoculated with Patu8988 cells. RESULTS: The results of PCR-SSP and sequence analysis showed that the human pancreatic cancer cell line Patu8988 had point mutation at codon 12, and the mutation style was GGT→GTT. 2-32 μg/mL K-ras ASODN and 2-32 μg/mL IGF-IR ASODN could inhibit Patu8988 cells' growth, induce apoptosis and decrease the expression of K-ras and IGF-IR mRNA and protein alone. However, there was much more effective inhibition of growth and induction of apoptosis by their combination than by each one alone. In tumor bearing mice, the combination of K-ras ASODN and IGF-IR ASODN showed a signif icant inhibitory effect on the growth of transplanted pancreatic cancer, resulting in a statistically signif icant difference compared with each alone. CONCLUSION: It has been found that K-ras ASODN combined with IGF-IR ASODN could cooperatively inhibit the growth of Patu8988 cells, and induce their apoptosis via reinforcing specific down regulation of K-ras and IGF-IR mRNA and protein expression.展开更多

Methods: There were thirty cases of pathologically proven brain tumor, including 6 Ⅰ-Ⅱ grade astrocytomas, 7 Ⅲ grade anaplastic astrocytomas, 10 IV grade glioblastomas and 7 meningiomas. Used Varian Company 600 MHz spectrometer with the Nano-probe for acquisition HRMASJHMRS, which was postprocessed with jMRUI 3.2 version software. These metabolic probability and their ratios to Cr were summed. Results: (1) HRMAS-^1HMRS could resolve NAA, PCr/Cr, GPC ± PCho ± Cho, Glu/GIn, Gly, Tau, Ala, Lac, ml and so on. All samples showed Lac, 6 samples showed unknown single peak at 3.72 ppm or 3.90 ppm. (2) The mean Cho/Cr of 6 Ⅰ-ⅡI grade astrocytomas was 2.42 ± 1.01 (P = 0.003, compared with glioblastoma). The mean Cho/Cr of 7 anaplastic astrocytomas was 3.48 ± 0.59 (P = 0.01, compared with glioblastoma). The Cho/Cr of 10 glioblastomas broadly ranged from 0.9 to 11.3 (mean 5.40 ± 1.23). From Ⅰ-Ⅱ grade astrocytoma to glioblastoma, Ala/Cr, Tau/Cr and Gly/Cr trends were increased; the mean Ala/Cr of glioma was 0.31 ± 0.13. (3) Meningiomas showed higher Ala and Cho. Their Cr was lower than that of gliomas. 4/7 cases had no NAA, 3/7 patients had lower NAA. Mean Cho/Cr was 3.56 ± 1.01, Ala/Cr was 0.53 ±0.28 (P = 0.006, compared with glioma). Conclusion: HRMAS-^1HMRS can show further details in vivo MRS, resolve in vivo spectroscopic metabolite of Cho compound and differentiate the extent of benign and malignant glioma. With the increase in the malignant degree of gliomas, Cho, ml, Ala, Tau and Gly will increase. HRMAS-^1HMRS is the only method of isotropic spectroscopy for pathological specimens.展开更多

The loci of 60% of the patients could be positioned using a combined positron emission tomography/CT imaging modality. Hyper- and hypometabolism foci were examined as part of this study. Patients who had abnormal metabolism in positron emission tomography/CT imaging were divided into intermittent-phase group and the seizure-phase group. The intermittent-phase group was further divided into a single-focus group and a multiple-foci group according to the number of seizure foci detected by imaging. Following gamma knife treatment, seizure frequency was significantly lower in the intermittent-phase group and the seizure-phase group. Wieser's classification reached Grade I or II in nearly 40% of patients. Seizure frequency was significantly lower following treatment, but Wieser's classification score was significantly higher in the seizure-phase group compared with the intermittent-phase group. Seizure frequency was significantly lower following treatment in the single-focus group, but Wieser's classification score was significantly higher in the single-focus group as compared with the multiple-foci group.展开更多

文摘Brain injury due to intrauterine growth restriction(IUGR) is a thorny clinical problem that often leads to permanent neurological deficits such as cerebral palsy.Few practical therapies can treat an IUGR-associated brain injury. We employed acupuncture to treat a 6-month-old male patient with severe hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy(HIE) due to IUGR,as confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging(MRI).Three courses of acupuncture treatment significantly improved some of the patient’s clinical characteristics, such as his insensitive responsiveness and motor deficits, with remarkably reversed HIE features on MRI at 1-year of age. This case suggests that acupuncture is a potential treatment option for an IUGRassociated brain injury and warrants further investigation.

文摘Carbon nanodots(CDs) based fluorescent nanoprobes have recently drawn much attention in chemo-/bio-sensing and bioimaging. However,it is still challenging to integrate the colorimetric and fluorometric dual readouts into a single CD.Herein, novel hybrid CDs(HCDs) are prepared by a simple microwave-assisted reaction of citric acid(CA),branched polyethyleneimine(BPEI) and potassium thiocyanate(KSCN).As-prepared HCDs show extraordinary properties, including excitation-dependent emission, satisfactory fluorescence quantum yield(46.8%),excellent biocompatibility and optical stability.Significantly, the fluorescence intensity at 450 nm exhibits linear correlation over the Fe^(3+)concentration from 1 mmol/L to 150 mmol/L with a detection limit(LOD) of 52 nmol/L.Meanwhile,the solution color changes from colorless to orange, and the absorbance at 460 nm increased linearly with Fe^(3+)concentration ranging from 0.02 mmol/L to 5 mmol/L(LOD:3.4 mmol/L).All the evidence illustrates that the HCDs can be conditioned for specific Fe^(3+)sensing with colorimetric and fluorometric dual readouts, which has also been verified with paper-based microchips. The possible mechanism is attributed to the specific interactions between surface functional groups on the HCDs and Fe^(3+).Additionally,the HCDs are successfully applied in sensing Fe^(3+)in wastewater and living cells, demonstrating its potential applications in future environment monitoring and disease diagnosis.

文摘The default mode network is associated with senior cognitive functions in humans. Experimental findings indicate that the default mode network is altered in heroin users.
文摘BACKGROUND: The corticospinal tract is an important tract for conducting motor function. Moreover, FA values of the left corticospinal tract pathway were greater than the right side, which may relate to right handedness.
文摘Objective Late Gadolinium enhancement (LGE) detected by cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) can be used as a predictor of adverse outcome in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) patients. We aim to investigate the clinical and prognostic significance of LGE in children and adolescents with DCM by comparing the young patients with and without LGE.
文摘Objective: To explore the application of MR perfusion-weighted imaging (PWI) in the benign and malignant prostate diseases, and evaluate the correlations of PWl features with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and microvessel density (MVD). Conclusion: On MR perfusion-weighted imaging, SSmax and ΔR2^* peak can reflect MVD and VEGF expression levels in the benign and malignant prostate diseases and might be implied the tumor angiogenesis so as to distinguish benign from malignant and provide the important information for the surgeon to diagnose and treat the prostatic diseases.

文摘Objective:To investigate the effect of SHU555A,a clinically approved iron nanoparticle, labeling on differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs) into neurocyte-like cells in vitro.Methods:10 times dilution of 10μl,20μl,40μl and 80μl SHU555A were added to 2ml of culture medium containing rat BMSCs to obtain four experimental groups of SHU555A labeling of BMSCs with ferri ion concentrations of 14μg/ml,28μg/ml,56μg/ml and 112μg/ml,respectively.2ml of culture medium with rat BMSCs did not contain SHU555A served as control group. The BMSCs of all the groups were pre-induced by bFGF,and induced by DMSO/butylated hydroxyanisole(BHA) for six hours, subsequently reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) technique was employed to detect mRNA expression of nestin, neuronspecific analase(NSE) and glial fibrillary acid protein(GFAP).Western blot technique was used to detectprotein expression of nestin.Results:Quantitative-PCR revealed high mRNA expression of nestin,NSE and GFAP induced by DMSO/BHA in all the experimental groups, but the difference between the experimental groups and the control group was not significant(P>0.05).Western blot analysis demonstrated there was no statistically significant difference in nestin protein expression between the experimental groups and the control group(P>0.05).Conclusion:SHU555A labeling do not affect differentiation of rat BMSCs into neurocyte-like cells in vitro.
文摘Purpose:To describe the magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)features of orbital rhabdomyosarcoma(RMS).Methods:Thirty-nine patients with histopathologically confirmed orbital RMS were retrospectively reviewed. All patients underwent orbital conventional MRI,including axial, sagittal, and coronal T1-weighted,T2-weighted,and postcontrast T1-weighted sequences. The location, shape, margin, and MRI signal of the 39 lesions were reviewed.DWI in 15 patients and susceptibility weighted imaging(SWI)in 2 patients were also analyzed. Results:Orbital MRI was available in 39 patients and revealed a soft tissue mass in the orbital region in all cases.Of the 39 patients, the primary tumor sites were limited to the orbital proper in 31 cases, while 28 cases had extraocular muscle invasion and 8 cases had extraorbital invasion. All lesions were unilateral.Thirty-three cases were well-defined soft tissue masses and 6 cases appeared as less well-defined softtissue masses.Thirty-four cases showed homogeneous isointense or slightly hypointense signals on T1-weighted imaging(T1WI)and hyperintense signal on T2-weighted imaging(T2WI)compared with extraocular muscles.Five cases had heterogeneous signals with focal areas of increased signal on T1WI or decreased signal on T2WI,including 1 case with hypointense signal on SWI.The mean apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC)value of the viable part of tumors was(0.925±0.09)×10-3mm2/s.All cases showed moderate to marked enhancement after contrast administration. Conclusion:Several MRI features-including homogeneous isointense or slightly hypointense signal on T1WI and slightly hyperintense signal on T2WI,relative low ADC values, and moderate to marked enhancement, extraocular muscles invasion, and extraorbital extensionare helpful in the diagnosis of orbital RMS.

文摘AIM: To investigate the combined effects of K-ras antisense oligodeoxynucleotide (K-ras ASODN) specif ic to GTT point mutation at codon 12 and type Ⅰ insulin-like growth factor receptor (IGF-IR) antisense oligodeoxynucleotide (IGF-IR ASODN) on proliferation and apoptosis of human pancreatic cancer Patu8988 cells in vitro and in vivo. CONCLUSION: It has been found that K-ras ASODN combined with IGF-IR ASODN could cooperatively inhibit the growth of Patu8988 cells, and induce their apoptosis via reinforcing specific down regulation of K-ras and IGF-IR mRNA and protein expression.
文摘Objective: To explore water soluble metabolite features of brain tumor specimens with HRMAS-^1HMRS and its potential clinical value. HRMAS-^1HMRS is the only method of isotropic spectroscopy for pathological specimens.

文摘A total of 80 patients with refractory epilepsy were recruited from the Inner Mongolia Medical College Affiliated Hospital. Seizure frequency was significantly lower following treatment in the single-focus group, but Wieser's classification score was significantly higher in the single-focus group as compared with the multiple-foci group.
文摘A 65-year-old man presented with bone pains and anemia. Skull X-ray revealed multiple osteolytic lesions. The pa- tient was evaluated for multiple myeloma but detailed workup revealed the diagnosis of primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with osteolytic bone metastases. Thus, bone metastases due to HCC, although rare, should be considered in patients presenting with bone pains due to os- teolytic lesions.
