The demand for monitoring activities has been more evident recently in oil and gas“O&G”activities such as exploration,drilling,production,logistics,or shipping.Consequently,these offshore infrastructures require...The demand for monitoring activities has been more evident recently in oil and gas“O&G”activities such as exploration,drilling,production,logistics,or shipping.Consequently,these offshore infrastructures require asset management(or facilities management).This study seeks to understand the research pattern of publications within the domain of asset management in offshore infrastructures with the aim of determining the present state of the field’s research.The paper conducts a scientometric analysis of publications that focus on offshore infrastructures’asset management published between 1992 and 2022.The employed search query yielded a total of 346 journal articles from the Scopus database and 43 from the Web of Science(WoS)database,respectively.The data analysis of the scientometric investigation explored research authorship,co-occurrence of keywords,number of publications,network mapping,country geographical breakdown,and literature coupling.The paper shows rising interest in monitoring and asset management in the oil and gas industry.It was concluded that the management of these infrastructures requires frequent review with the application of sustainable asset management strategies.展开更多

The purpose of this work was to explore the influence law of vibration load on rock mass structure and slope stability.Based on the type and transmission way of vibration stress wave,the main stress in the horizontal ...The purpose of this work was to explore the influence law of vibration load on rock mass structure and slope stability.Based on the type and transmission way of vibration stress wave,the main stress in the horizontal and vertical directions was analyzed and the superposition effect of the stress wave was revealed.After the mechanical analysis of the sliding mass,the calculation formulas of the anti-sliding force and the sliding force were derived and the damage mechanism of blasting vibration to the structural plane was defined.In addition,according to the structure and lithologic parameter of the slope as well as the vibration monitoring data,the west slope stability of Xiaolongtan open pit mine was analyzed.The results show that the time-dependent stability factor is proportional to the vibration speed and the peak values appear at the same time.Vibration load promotes the breakage of the structural plane leading to the drop of the west slope stability factor by 0.23%.Under the multipoint simultaneous blasting,the fluctuating laws of the stability factors are consistent.The more the start-up points are,the higher the weakening degree to the slope stability is.Under the multipoint allochronic blasting,the stability factor depends on the synthetic waveform structure of all vibration waves.The greater the blasting time difference is,the lower the weakening degree to the slope stability is.Selecting the reasonable quantity of start-up points and time difference could fully reduce the adverse influence of vibration load to slope stability.展开更多

Efforts are currently geared towards generation of more energy to ease the problem. While these efforts are commendable, it is equally desirable to explore ways to minimize consumption of generated energy. The objective of this work is to investigate the effect of building orientation on energy demand in buildings. This paper considered the use of standard design considerations, fundamental cooling load equations and the guidelines stipulated by the American Society of Heating, Cooling and Air conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). The study takes the designs of three buildings within the University of Ibadan, Nigeria into consideration with the view to harness the energy saving potentials through building orientation and selection of efficient cooling equipment. The results obtained were 155.34, 224.75, 86.35 kW and 163.60, 232.04 and 90.64 kW for the three lecture envelopes including the Faculty of Science, CBN and the Department of Chemistry lecture theatres using the North-South and East-West building orientations respectively. Increase in energy demand of 7.96, 7.29 and 4.29 kW was thus obtained with the East-West building orientation over North-South. Energy efficiency is thus guaranteed with North-South building orientation.展开更多
Zoning policies are measures used to enforce compliance and control the development of an area.These measures have been used in different countries to achieve a well-planned and habitable residential environment.Enfor...Zoning policies are measures used to enforce compliance and control the development of an area.These measures have been used in different countries to achieve a well-planned and habitable residential environment.Enforcement of these measures has tended to increase or decrease property values in some jurisdictions.Thus,the objective of this study was to measure the influence of zoning policies on rental values in Abuja,Nigeria.Due to the dearth of data related to the subject matter of this research,residents,property developers and personnel responsible for enforcement of these policies were targeted and used for data gathering.The hedonic price modeling(HPM)was used to assess the contribution of zoning policies to rental values in this analysis.The results,however,revealed that zoning is negatively correlated to rental values,while other zoning policies used in the study area are positively correlated to rental values.The result extends the debate that the impact of zoning could either be positively or negatively correlated to price relative to the underlying measures adopted within a jurisdiction.This result suggests that it is imperative to undertake a study in a jurisdiction before decisions could be made.Again,zoning policies should be extended to other suburbs of Abuja so that population pressure within Abuja and its immediate suburbs could be mitigated.展开更多

Analysing this sp...Urban growth is a continuous spatial expansion, and happens as a spatial-temporal process. This physical process influenced by various driving factors on the sub-systems within the main urban system. Analysing this spatial-temporal process and the influencing factors behind it is a substantial and essential task as it facilitates the local planning process. Previous studies were concerned with the individual effect of each driver on the main urban system rather than with the interactions between the drivers in the different sub-systems. This research aims to model urban growth and to consider the effect of the driving factors separately on the socio-economic, physical and environmental sub-systems. GIS based logistic regression modelling is used to model the fringe growth to find out the relationship between urban growth and its driving factors. These findings highlighted the positive and negative influencing factors in terms of, “where the growth should go?” and “how much of it should go?”. The factors in the socio-economic, physical, and environmental sub-systems can exert their influence in a positive or negative manner. The cumulative results of the various influences caused a unique pattern of growth in the Colombo urban fringe that is quite distinct from the pattern witnessed in other Asian countries.展开更多
