To better understand the causes of this devastating earthquake, we need knowledge of the regional stress field and the underlying geodynamic processes. Here, we determine focal mechanism solutions (FMSs) of the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake sequence (WES) using both P-wave first-motion polarity data and SH/P amplitude ratio (AR) data. As P-wave polarities are more reliable information, they are given priority over SH/ PAR, the latter of which are used only when the former has loose constraint on the FMSs. We collect data from three categories: (1) permanent stations deployed by the China Earthquake Administration (CEA); (2) the Western Sichuan Passive Seismic Array (WSPSA) deployed by Institute of Geology, CEA; (3) global stations from Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology. Finally, 129 events with magnitude over Ms 4.0 in the 2008 WES are identified to have well-constrained FMSs. Among them, 83 are well constrained by P-wave polarities only as shown by Cai et al. (Earthq Sci 24(1):115-125,2011), and the rest of which are newly constrained by incorporating SH/P AR. Based on the spatial distribution and FMSs of the WES, we draw following conclusions: (1) the principle compressional directions of most FMSs of the WES are subhorizontal, generally in agreement with the conclusion given by Cai et al. (2011) but with a few modifications that the compressional directions are WNW-ESE around Wenchuan and ENE-WSW around Qingchuan, respectively. The subhorizontal compressional direction along the Longmenshan fault from SW to NE seems to have a leftlateral rotation, which agrees well with regional stress field inverted by former researchers (e.g., Xu et al., Acta Seismol Sin 30(5), 1987; Acta Geophys Sin 32(6), 1989; Cui et al., Seismol Geol 27(2):234-242, 2005); (2) the FMSs of the events not only reflected the regional stress state of the Longmenshan region, but also were obviously controlled by the faults to some extent, which was pointed out by Cai et al. (2011) and Yi et al. (Chin J Geophys 55(4):1213-1227, 2012); (3) while the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake and some of its strong aftershocks released most of the elastic energy accumulated on the Longmen- shan fault, some other aftershocks seem to occur just for releasing the elastic energy promptly created by the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake and some of its strong aftershocks. (4) Our results further suggest that the Longmenshan fault from Wenchuan to Beichuan was nearly fully destroyed by the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake and accordingly propose that there is less probability for great earthquakes in the middle part of the Longmenshan fault in the near future, although there might be a barrier to the southwest of Wenchuan and it is needed to pay some attention on it in the near future.展开更多

Without a huge landmass, nutrients cannot be supplied into the ocean only by ridge-hydrothermal circulation in the Hadean. Finally, the size of the planet plays a crucial role.Cooling of massive planets is less efficient than smaller ones,so that return-flow of seawater into mantle does not occur until central stars finish their main sequence.Due to the suitable size of Earth, the dawn of Phanerozoic witnessed the initiation of return-flow of seawater into the mantle, leading to the emergence of huge landmass above sea-level,and the distribution of nutrients on a global scale.Oxygen pump also played a critical role to keep high-PO_2 in atmosphere since then, leading to the emergence of ozone layer and enabling animals and plants to invade the land. To satisfy the tight conditions to make the Earth habitable, the formation mechanism of primordial Earth is an important factor. At first,a 'dry Earth' must be made through giant impact, followed by magma ocean to float nutrient-enriched primordial continents(anorthosite + KREEP).Late bombardment from asteroid belt supplied water to make 3-5 km thick ocean, and not from icy meteorites from Kuiper belt beyond cool Jupiter. It was essential to meet the above conditions that enabled the Earth as a habitable planet with evolved life forms. The tight constraints that we evaluate for birth and evolution of life on Earth would provide important guidelines for planetary scientists hunting for life in the exosolar planets.展开更多

We used a multi-anvil apparatus and a laser-heated diamond-anvil cell for this purpose. In-situ X-ray diffraction measurements at high pressures and composition analysis of recovered samples using an analytical transmission electron microscope showed that anorthosite consists of garnet,CaAl_4Si_2O_(11)-rich phase(CAS phase), and SiO_2 phases in the upper mantle and the mantle transition zone.Under lower mantle conditions, these minerals transform to the assemblage of bridgmanite, Ca-perovskite,corundum, stishovite, and calcium ferrite-type aluminous phase through the decomposition of garnet and CAS phase at around 700 km depth. Anorthosite has a higher density than PREM and pyrolite in the upper mantle, while its density becomes comparable or lower under lower mantle conditions. Our results suggest that ancient anorthosite crust subducted down to the deep mantle was likely to have accumulated at660-720 km in depth without coming back to the Earth's surface. Some portions of the anorthosite crust might have circulated continuously in the Earth's deep interior by mantle convection and potentially subducted to the bottom of the lower mantle when carried within layers of dense basaltic rocks.展开更多

Since most thrust earthquakes occur on faults with dip angles of about 30 degrees, it is enigmatic why the Wenchuan earthquake occurred on such a steep fault. In this study we use a simple finite element model to investigate how the stress state in the fault changes with the variation of Poisson's ratio. The results show that, with the Poisson's ratio in the fault increasing, the magnitudes of the principal stresses increase and the maximum Shear stress decrease, and, especially, the angle between the maximum principal stress and the fault plane decreases, which will enhance the driving force to overcome the frictional resistance on the fault. The increase of Poisson's ratio in the fault may be an important factor to affect the occurrence of the fault earthquakes with large angles between maximum principal stress and fault plane.展开更多

The rupture model with two asperities is confirmed by previous two methods. In low-frequency imaging, a large asperity derived from the migration method corresponds to the second one from the high-frequency P waves. The con- sistency of the locations of asperities from datasets with different frequency bands indicates that there is possible insignificance of the frequency-dependent feature for the earthquake. The resultant images illustrate the spatial and temporal evolution of the rupture, which mainly propa- gated WSW over a length of 33 km during the first 18 s, accompanying with bursts of two asperities at 3 and 11-13 s. The rupture direction is confirmed by the S wave comer frequency variations of strong ground accelerations. The rupture fronts are mainly located at the updip of the causative fault. Based on polarities of the P waveforms and focal mechanisms of the mainshock and aftershocks, the failure of these two asperities is determined to have occurred on a reverse fault with a dip angle of 47°. Hence, the rupture pattern of the 2011 Van-Merkez earthquakewas dominated by a unilateral rupture toward the west- southwest direction.展开更多

Zircon in the granitic rocks has median values of 350 ppm U, 140 ppm Th, and Th/U=0.52; the recommended zircon-melt partition coefficients are 81 for Du and 8.2 for DTh. In zircon from mafic and intermediate rocks, the median values are 270 ppm U, 170 ppm Th, and Th/U=0.81, and the recommended zirconmelt partition coefficients are 169 for Du and 59 for DTh. The U and Th contents and Th/U ratios of magmatic zircon are low when zircon crystallizes in equilibrium with the melt. Increasing magma temperature should promote higher Th contents relative to U contents, resulting in higher Th/U ratios for zircon in mafic to intermediate rocks than in granitic rocks. However, when zircon crystallizes in disequilibrium with the melt, U and Th are more easily able to enter the zircon lattice, and their contents and Th/U ratios depend mainly on the degree of disequilibrium. The behavior of U and Th in magmatic zircon can be used as a geochemical indicator to determine the origins and crystallization environments of magmatic zircon.展开更多

The maximum thickness of the formation is 4700 m, and includes 1800 m of halite. We have identified eight third-order depositional sequences based on pinch-out and onlap stratigraphic patterns in 2-D and 3-D seismic data and well logs. The basin evolved from a deep to shallow under-filled lake during the Eocene–Oligocene interval. The main rock types are dark mudstones, halite, and siltstone/sandstone in the depocenter, and alternating mudstone and gypsum in shallower areas. The vertical succession indicates a strong sedimentary cyclicity. Depositional facies indicate the presence of two lake system types. Halite developed in a saline lake system, whereas clastic sediments were deposited in freshwater lake systems. The alternating sediment types indicate that the basin cycled repeatedly between saline and freshwater lake systems. This cyclicity was caused by availability of accommodation space that was controlled by a combination of climate change, tectonic subsidence and sediment supply; notably, the highest frequency cycles occurred at Milankovitch timescales controlled by the Earth's orbital variations. The cyclic halite plays an important role in generating and preserving oil in the Qianjiang Formation of the Qianjiang depression.展开更多

In this work, IG-MWCNTs were functionalized with tetraethylenepentamine(TEPA) for CO2capture. The TEPA impregnated IG-MWCNTs were characterized with various experimental methods including N2adsorption/desorption isotherms, elemental analysis, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. Both the adsorption isotherms of IGMWCNTs-n and the isosteric heats of different adsorption capacities were obtained from experiments. TEPA impregnated IG-MWCNTs were also shown to have high CO2adsorption capacity comparable to that of TEPA impregnated P-MWCNTs. The adsorption capacity of IG-MWCNTs based adsorbents was in the range of 2.145 to 3.088 mmol/g, depending on adsorption temperatures. Having the advantages of low-cost and high adsorption capacity, TEPA impregnated IG-MWCNTs seem to be a promising adsorbent for CO2capture from flue gas.展开更多

Thus, the ash beds near the PTB in South China may carry information on this event. Three volcanic ash layers, altered to clay, outcropped in the PTB beds in Zunyi Section, Guizhou Province, Southwest China. The U-Pb ages, trace elements, and Hf-isotope compositions of zircon grains from these three ash beds were analyzed using LA-ICPMS and LA-MC-ICPMS. The zircons are mainly magmatic in origin(241-279 Ma) except for two inherited/xenocrystic zircons(939 and 2 325 Ma). The ages of these magmatic zircons indicate three episodes of magmatism which occurred around the MiddleLate Permian boundary(-261.5 Ma, MLPB), the Wuchiapingian-Changhsingian boundary(-254.5 Ma, WCB), and the PTB(-250.5 Ma), respectively. The first two episodes of magmatism near the MLPB and WCB may be attributed to magmatic inheritance or re-deposition. All magmatic zircons share similar trace-element and Hf-isotope compositions. They have Y, Hf, Th and U contents and Nb/Ta ratios are typical of zircons from silicic calc-alkaline magmas. These zircons also exhibit enriched Hf-isotope compositions with _(εHf)(t) values of-11.4 to +0.2, which suggests that the three magmatic episodes involved melting of the continental crust. The more enriched Hf-isotope composition (_(εHf)(t)=-11.4--4.8) of Bed ZY13(-250.5 Ma) implies more input of ancient crustal material in the magma. Integration of the Hf-isotope and trace-element compositions of magmatic zircons suggest that these three episodes of magmatism may take place along the convergent continent margin in or near southwestern South China as a result of the closure of the Palaeo-Tethys Ocean.展开更多

The basic features of the seasonal transition of VIMT from winter to summer are the establishment of the summertime "great moisture river" pattern (named the GMR pattern) and its eastward expansion, associated with a series of climatological events which occurred in some "key periods", which include the occurrence of the notable southerly VIMT over the Indochina Peninsula in mid March, the activity of the low VIMT vortex around Sri Lanka in late April, and the onset of the South China Sea summer monsoon in mid May, among others. However, during the transition from summer to winter, the characteristics are mainly exhibited by the establishment of the easterly VIMT belt located in the tropical area, accompanied by some events occurring in "key periods". Further analyses disclose a great difference between the Indian and East Asian monsoon regions when viewed from the meridional migration of the westerly VIMT during the seasonal change process, according to which the Asian monsoon region can be easily divided into two parts along the western side of the Indochina Peninsula and it may also denote different formation mechanisms between the two regions.展开更多

文摘Abstract The 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, a major intraplate earthquake with Mw 7.9, occurred on the slowly deforming Longmenshan fault. (4) Our results further suggest that the Longmenshan fault from Wenchuan to Beichuan was nearly fully destroyed by the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake and accordingly propose that there is less probability for great earthquakes in the middle part of the Longmenshan fault in the near future, although there might be a barrier to the southwest of Wenchuan and it is needed to pay some attention on it in the near future.

文摘We build a high-resolution early aftershock catalog for the 2023 SE Türkiye seismic sequence with PALM,a seamless workflow that sequentially performs phase picking, association, location, and matched filter for continuous data. The catalog contains 29,519 well-located events in the two mainshocks rupture region during 2023-02-01–2023-02-28,which significantly improves the detection completeness and relocation precision compared to the public routine catalog.Employing the new PALM catalog,we analyze the structure of the seismogenic fault system. We find that the Eastern Anatolian Fault(EAF)that generated the first M_(W)7.9 mainshock is overall near-vertical,whereas complexities are revealed in a small-scale,such as subparallel subfaults, unmapped branches, and stepovers. The seismicity on EAF is shallow(<15 km)and concentrated in depth distribution, indicating a clear lock-creep transition. In contrast, the SürgüFault(SF)that is responsible for the second M_(W)7.8 mainshock is shovel-shaped for the nucleation segment and has overall low dip angles(~40°–80°).Aftershocks on the SF distribute in a broad range of depth, extending down to~35 km.We also analyze the temporal behavior of seismicity, discovering no immediate foreshocks within~5 days preceding the first mainshock, and no seismic activity on the SF before the second mainshock.
文摘Our blue planet Earth has long been regarded to carry full of nutrients for hosting life since the birth of the planet. Here we speculate the processes that led to the birth of early life on Earth and its aftermath, finally leading to the evolution of metazoans. We evaluate:(1) the source of nutrients,(2) the chemistry of primordial ocean,(3) the initial mass of ocean,and(4) the size of planet.Among the life-building nutrients, phosphorus and potassium play a key role.Only three types of rocks can serve as an adequate source of nutrients:(a) continent-forming TTG(granite),enabling the evolution of primitive life to metazoans;(b) primordial continents carrying anorthosite with KREEP(Potassium,Rare Earth Elements, and Phosphorus) basalts, which is a key to bear life;(c) carbonatite magma, enriched in radiogenic elements such as U and Th,which can cause mutation to speed up evolution and promote the birth of new species in continental rift settings. The second important factor is ocean chemistry. The primordial ocean was extremely acidic(pH = 1-2) and enriched in halogens(CI,F and others),S,N and metallic elements(Cd,Cu,Zn,and others),inhibiting the birth of life.Plate tectonics cleaned up these elements which interfered with RNA.Blue ocean finally appeared in the Phanerozoic with pH = 7 through extensive interaction with surface continental crust by weathering, erosion and transportation into ocean. The initial ocean mass was also important. The birth of life and aftermath of evolution was possible in the habitable zone with 3-5 km deep ocean which was able to supply sufficient nutrients. The tight constraints that we evaluate for birth and evolution of life on Earth would provide important guidelines for planetary scientists hunting for life in the exosolar planets.

文摘We investigated phase relations, mineral chemistry, and density of lunar highland anorthosite at conditions up to 125 GPa and 2000 K. Some portions of the anorthosite crust might have circulated continuously in the Earth's deep interior by mantle convection and potentially subducted to the bottom of the lower mantle when carried within layers of dense basaltic rocks.

文摘The Wenchuan Ms8.0 earthquake occurred on the Longmenshan fault which inclines at a dip angle exceeding 60 degrees. The increase of Poisson's ratio in the fault may be an important factor to affect the occurrence of the fault earthquakes with large angles between maximum principal stress and fault plane.

文摘High-frequency rupture process of the Oct 23, 2011 Van-Merkez earthquake is imaged by back-projection method using high-quality teleseismic P wave data from the US Array, and prestack Kirchhoff migration using P wave data from a subarray of global seismic networks. Hence, the rupture pattern of the 2011 Van-Merkez earthquakewas dominated by a unilateral rupture toward the west- southwest direction.

文摘This paper highlights the crucial role of Indonesia’s GNSS receiver network in advancing Equatorial Plasma Bubble(EPB)studies in Southeast and East Asia,as ionospheric irregularities within EPB can disrupt GNSS signals and degrade positioning accuracy.Managed by the Indonesian Geospatial Information Agency(BIG),the Indonesia Continuously Operating Reference Station(Ina-CORS)network comprises over 300 GNSS receivers spanning equatorial to southern low-latitude regions.Ina-CORS is uniquely situated to monitor EPB generation, zonal drift, and dissipation across Southeast Asia.We provide a practical tool for EPB research,by sharing two-dimensional rate of Total Electron Content(TEC)change index(ROTI)derived from this network. We generate ROTI maps with a 10-minute resolution, and samples from May 2024 are publicly available for further scientific research. Two preliminary findings from the ROTI maps of Ina-CORS are noteworthy.First, the Ina-CORS ROTI maps reveal that the irregularities within a broader EPB structure persist longer, increasing the potential for these irregularities to migrate farther eastward.Second,we demonstrate that combined ROTI maps from Ina-CORS and GNSS receivers in East Asia and Australia can be used to monitor the development of ionospheric irregularities in Southeast and East Asia.We have demonstrated the combined ROTI maps to capture the development of ionospheric irregularities in the Southeast/East Asian sector during the G5 Geomagnetic Storm on May 11,2024.We observed simultaneous ionospheric irregularities in Japan and Australia, respectively propagating northwestward and southwestward, before midnight, whereas Southeast Asia’s equatorial and low-latitude regions exhibited irregularities post-midnight.By sharing ROTI maps from Indonesia and integrating them with regional GNSS networks, researchers can conduct comprehensive EPB studies, enhancing the understanding of EPB behavior across Southeast and East Asia and contributing significantly to ionospheric research.

文摘The origin of life on Earth remains enigmatic with diverse models and debates. Here we discuss essential requirements for the first emergence of life on our planet and propose the following nine requirements:(1)an energy source(ionizing radiation and thermal energy);(2)a supply of nutrients(P.K.REE.etc.);(3)a supply of life-constituting major elements;(4)a high concentration of reduced gases such as CH4,HCN and NH3;(5)dry-wet cycles to create membranes and polymerize RNA;(6)a non-toxic aqueous environment;(7)Na-poor water;(8)highly diversified environments,and(9)cyclic conditions, such as dayto-night,hot-to-cold etc.Based on these nine requirements,we evaluate previously proposed locations for the origin of Earth’s life,including:(1)Darwin’s"warm little pond",leading to a"prebiotic soup"for life;(2)panspermia or Neo-panspermia(succession model of panspermia);(3)transportation from/through Mars;(4)a deepsea hydrothermal system;(5)an on-land subduct ion-zone hot spring,and(6)a geyser systems driven by a natural nuclear reactor. We conclude that location(6)is the most ideal candidate for the o rigin point for Earth’s life because of its efficiency in continuously supplying both the energy and the necessary materials for life, thereby maintaining the essential"cradle"for its initial development. We also emphasize that falsifiable working hypothesis provides an important tool to evaluate one of the biggest mysteries of the universe-the origin of life.

文摘Hydrocarbons are one of the important fluids within the Earth's crust, and different biotic and abitoic processes can generate hydrocarbon during geological periods.Tracing the sources and sinks of hydrocarbons can help us better understand the carbon cycle of the earth. In this study,an improved approach of adsorbed hydrocarbons extraction from sediments was established. The improved thermal desorption approach,compound-specific isotope analysis and position-specific isotope analysis were integrated to investigate the molecular and intramolecular isotope fractionation between trace hydrocarbon gases within sediments and geological hydrocarbon deposits. The isotopic compositions of the terminal position carbon of propane(δ^(13)C_(terminal))serves as a correlation indicator between trace hydrocarbon gases within sediments and geological hydrocarbon deposits. The tight sandstone gas from the Turpan-Hami Basin is a first case study for the application of this novel method to trace hydrocarbon origins. The results showed that the hydrocarbons in the tight sandstone gases in the study area most likely originated from humic organic matter(typeⅢkerogen)at an early mature stage.δ^(13)C_(terminal)values of the thermally desorbed propane gases from different source rocks were distinguishable and the values of the tight sandstone gases significantly overlap with those of the Lower Jurassic Sangonghe source rocks, suggesting their genetic relationship.Overall, the results provided novel position-specific carbon isotopic constraints on origins of hydrocarbons.

文摘Better understanding of shoshonitic rocks is vital to unravel the formation process and spatial distribution of their associated ore deposits. Here,we conducted analyses on the shoshonitic granodiorite and its mafic microgranular enclaves(MMEs)from the Chadi Cu-Pb-Zn polymetallic deposit(South China),with the aim to investigate their petrogenesis and tectonic setting.Zircon U-Pb age of the MMEs(165.0±1.2 Ma)is coeval with that of the host granodiorite(164.8±0.63 Ma).The Chadi granitoids are enriched in large ion lithophile elements and light rare earth elements, but depleted in high-field-strength elements. The granodiorite displays low(^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr)_(i)(0.7069-0.7072),and negative ε_(Nd)(t)(−5.8 to−5.5)and zircon ε_(Hf)(t)(−3.6 to−0.4)values.These isotopic characteristics of the granodiorite and MMEs indicate the mixing of a mafic magma(formed from the subduction-related,metasomatically-enriched lithospheric mantle)and a felsic magma(formed from the partial melting of crustal materials),which is closely related to the Paleo-Pacific subduction. The Chadi granodioritic magma has likely low oxygen fugacity(<ΔFMQ+1),low whole-rock Sr/Y ratio(mostly<30),and low S(0.04±0.02 wt%)and Cl(0.23±0.04 wt%)contents, suggesting that the potential of forming large-scale Cu mineralization is low.

文摘The Yangtze-Huaihe River Valley(YHRV)experienced a record-breaking mei-yu season during the summer of 2020,prompting investigation into the role of regional ocean-atmosphere coupling in simulating this extreme event.Through comparative analysis of regional ocean-atmosphere coupled(CP)and atmosphere-only(WRF)simulations,the aim of this study was to elucidate the mechanisms underlying this phenomenon. Results indicate that CP effectively reproduced the observed sea surface temperature spatial distribution and its daily variation during the period from 25 June to 25 July 2020,and notably reduced the wet biases over the YHRV when compared to WRF simulations. This improvement in representation was manifested in the observed rainfall spatial distribution and daily variability. The wet biases simulated by WRF were associated with a stronger 200-hPa westerly jet and a more westward-positioned western North Pacific subtropical high(WNPSH)with more intense 500-hPa winds and a stronger 850-hPa circulation. However, these biases were significantly reduced in CP simulations.Mechanism analysis revealed that regional ocean-atmosphere coupling over the western Northwest Pacific influenced surface turbulent heat fluxes and atmospheric instability, thereby modulating the intensity and position of the WNPSH and associated circulation subsystems at different levels. Moreover, adjustments in land-sea thermal contrast induced by ocean-atmosphere coupling impacted YHRV precipitation by altering East Asian circulation systems. These findings highlight the significant role of regional ocean-atmosphere coupling in enhancing the simulation and understanding of extreme mei-yu events over East Asia.

文摘High-precision data on U and Th contents and Th/U ratios of zircon obtained using secondary ion mass spectrometry analysis have been collected from the literature. The behavior of U and Th in magmatic zircon can be used as a geochemical indicator to determine the origins and crystallization environments of magmatic zircon.

文摘The Upper Eocene–Lower Oligocene Qianjiang Formation of the Jianghan Basin in central China consists of a 4700-m-thick lacustrine succession, containing 1800 m of halite deposits. The cyclic halite plays an important role in generating and preserving oil in the Qianjiang Formation of the Qianjiang depression.

文摘Monitoring data show that many landslides in the Three Gorges region,China, undergo step-like displacements in response to the managed,quasi-sinusoidal annual variations in reservoir level. This behavior is consistent with motion initiating when the reservoir water level falls below a critical level that is intrinsic to each landslide, with the subsequent displacement rate of the landslide being proportional to the water depth below that critical level. Most motion terminates when the water level rises back above the critical level,so the annual step size is the time integral of the instantaneous displacement rate. These responses are incorporated into a differential equation that is easily calibrated with monitoring data, allowing prediction of landslide movement from actual or anticipated reservoir level changes.Model successes include(1)initiation and termination of the annual sliding steps at the critical reservoir level, producing a series of steps;(2)prediction of variable step size, year to year;and(3)approximate prediction of the shape and size of each annual step.Annual rainfall correlates poorly with step size, probably because its effect on groundwater levels is dwarfed by the 30 m annual variations in the level of the Three Gorges Reservoir.Viscous landslide behavior is suggested.

文摘Industrial grade multi-walled carbon nanotubes(IG-MWCNTs) are a low-cost substitute for commercially purified multi-walled carbon nanotubes(P-MWCNTs). Having the advantages of low-cost and high adsorption capacity, TEPA impregnated IG-MWCNTs seem to be a promising adsorbent for CO2capture from flue gas.

文摘A growing body of evidence shows that volcanism near the Permian-Triassic boundary(PTB) may be crucial in triggering the Permian–Triassic(P–Tr) mass extinction. Integration of the Hf-isotope and trace-element compositions of magmatic zircons suggest that these three episodes of magmatism may take place along the convergent continent margin in or near southwestern South China as a result of the closure of the Palaeo-Tethys Ocean.

文摘Using NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data for the period of 1957-2001, the climatological seasonal transition features of large-scale vertically integrated moisture transport (VIMT) in the Asian-Australian monsoon region are investigated in this paper. Further analyses disclose a great difference between the Indian and East Asian monsoon regions when viewed from the meridional migration of the westerly VIMT during the seasonal change process, according to which the Asian monsoon region can be easily divided into two parts along the western side of the Indochina Peninsula and it may also denote different formation mechanisms between the two regions.
