The present study consisted in optimizing a method for the simultaneous determination of Phloroglucinol (PHG) and Trimethylphloroglucinol (TPH) by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) routinely used in a pharmaceutical industry located in a township in Abidjan (Ivory Coast). The basic chromatographic conditions were those routinely used for the determination of these two molecules: mobile phase: acetonitrile/water (60/40), stationary phase (C18 BDS Hypersil 250 mm * 4.6 mm - 5 μm), detection wavelength (265 nm), flow rate, injection volume and run time configured at the equipment level were respectively 1 mL/min, 10 μL and 8 min. The method of preparation of the analytes (PHG and TPHG) was also applied by the pharmaceutical industry. The application of these different parameters at the equipment level made it possible to determine a chromatogram which highlights three chromatographic peaks with respective retention times (RT) of 0.773 min (unidentified compound), 2.275 min (PHG) and 7.269 min for an analysis time of 8 min with a better resolution of the peaks and baseline. The progressive optimization of different parameters such as the stationary phase (C18 YMC 150 mm * 4.6 mm - 3 μm), the proportion of the mobile phase: acetonitrile/water (80/20), the flow rate impelled by the pump (0.8 mL/min) and the modification of the analyte preparation mode (same amount of PHG and TPHG in a 50 mL volumetric flask) resulted in a final chromatogram that highlighted two chromatographic peaks at the respective RT of 2.391 min (PHG) and 3.735 min (TPHG) at a run time of 6 min. The chromatographic conditions that led to the final chromatogram can be used routinely by the pharmaceutical industry for the determination of several PHG and TPHG drug matrices after prior validation of the determination method.展开更多

The main objective of the study was to analyze the variability of arsenic concentrations in gastropods and bivalves in the Aby and Tendo lagoons, taking into account spatial, seasonal and hydrological variations. The study was carried out in four stages spread over two successive hydroclimatic cycles, including two seasons during the rainy season and two more during the dry season. The samples were taken in two areas of the Aby and Tendo lagoons. Arsenic levels were measured by ICP-MS. The results showed that mean arsenic concentrations in the muscles of organisms in Aby Lagoon ranged from 0.01 to 1.26 μg As/g, with a mean and median of 0.17 and 0.06 μg As/g, respectively. Fish had the highest levels of arsenic, followed by crustaceans, while molluscs and plants had lower and comparable concentrations of As. Arsenic concentrations in tilapia and jawbones varied significantly between sites and seasons, with higher concentrations at Tendo and during the rainy season. Arsenic concentrations in gastropods and bivalves were significantly higher than those of other species, with averages of 0.74 and 1.03 mg As/kg, respectively.展开更多

In Cote d’Ivoire, they are commonly known as “bissap” and are of great interest to local people, who use them to make an eponymous herbal tea. This drink has potential medicinal and nutritional value (Khan et al., 2022). Nine (9) samples of dried flowers of the plant, packaged in 3 g sachets of a local Kuinafo brand, were used for physico-chemical analyses. Heavy metals, mineral salts, ash and moisture content were determined using methods adapted from the Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC). The results showed the presence of heavy metals at levels whose intake should take into account the weight of the consumer in the case of mercury and arsenic (0.5 mg/Kg and 0.7 mg/Kg respectively). Apart from lead, whose level was not compliant (1.310 mg/Kg for a CSHPF standard of 0.5 mg/Kg), cadmium had a regulatory level (0.18 mg/Kg for a CSHPF standard of 0.20 mg/Kg). Nutrient intakes were significant (calcium, iron and potassium respectively at 1.79 g/100g;17.27 mg/100g and 1.76 g/100g of dried Hibiscus sabdarrifa flowers) and the moisture content suggested that the dried flowers were better preserved. The study of the physico-chemical characteristics of Hibiscus sabdarrifa flowers has enabled us to highlight the importance of quality control and the need to prevent any adverse effects on consumer health.展开更多

The developed method was linear, precise and accurate according to USP 38. The co-efficient of determination R2 for linearity was 0.9993. The respective RSD of intra-day and inter-day between days (1st, 2nd and 3rd day) were respectively 0.338% and the interval from 0.05% to 0.387%. The average recovery rate ranged from 98.490% to 100.450%. The detection and quantification limits were 0.0001 mg/mL and 0.001 mg/mL respectively. The method was applied to four samples of opened syrup containing CBC and the CBC content in these samples was found to be in accordance with USP 38. The CBC content in the opened sample of RNTL 5% was obtained by UV-visible spectrophotometry at 217 nm and was 4.887 g/100mL. The study of the influence of physico-chemical factors on the content of CBC in RS and RNTL 5% showed that the evolution of CBC contents in each drug matrix remained dependent on pH and temperature. However, these levels remained stable in the presence of light.展开更多

The method developed was linear and accurate in accordance with USP 38 and the MTZ contents were obtained by UV-visible spectrophotometry at 278 nm. These contents ranged from 225 mg to 275 mg and were thus consistent with the concentration present in the proprietary medicines (250 mg). The study of the influence of physicochemical parameters on the MTZ content in SR and FLG showed that MTZ contents are unstable in the presence of Ethanol at 96˚, KOH at 0.1N and bile salts but also when the temperature is higher than 25˚C. However, they remain stable in the presence of light and H2O2 and undergo degradation in an acidic environment.展开更多
