Combustion synthesis involving metallothermic reduction of Fe2O3 and TiO2 was conducted in the mode of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis(SHS)to fabricate FeAl-based composites with dual ceramic phases,TiB2/A...Combustion synthesis involving metallothermic reduction of Fe2O3 and TiO2 was conducted in the mode of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis(SHS)to fabricate FeAl-based composites with dual ceramic phases,TiB2/Al2O3 and TiC/Al2O3.The reactant mixture included thermite reagents of 0.6Fe2O3+0.6TiO2+2Al,and elemental Fe,Al,boron,and carbon powders.The formation of xFeAl−0.6TiB2−Al2O3 composites with x=2.0−3.6 and yFeAl−0.6TiC−Al2O3 composites with y=1.8−2.75 was studied.The increase of FeAl causes a decrease in the reaction exothermicity,thus resulting in the existence of flammability limits of x=3.6 and y=2.75 for the SHS reactions.Based on combustion wave kinetics,the activation energies of Ea=97.1 and 101.1 kJ/mol are deduced for the metallothermic SHS reactions.XRD analyses confirm in situ formation of FeAl/TiB2/Al2O3 and FeAl/TiC/Al2O3 composites.SEM micrographs exhibit that FeAl is formed with a dense polycrystalline structure,and the ceramic phases,TiB2,TiC,and Al2O3,are micro-sized discrete particles.The synthesized FeAl−TiB2−Al2O3 and FeAl−TiC−Al2O3 composites exhibit the hardness ranging from 12.8 to 16.6 GPa and fracture toughness from 7.93 to 9.84 MPa·m1/2.展开更多
Preparation of Zr2Al3C4-Al2O3 in situ composites was investigated by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis(SHS)involving both aluminothermic reduction of ZrO2 and chemical activation of PTFE(Teflon).The starting...Preparation of Zr2Al3C4-Al2O3 in situ composites was investigated by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis(SHS)involving both aluminothermic reduction of ZrO2 and chemical activation of PTFE(Teflon).The starting materials included ZrO2,Al,carbon black and PTFE.In addition to the conventional SHS method,the experiments were conducted by a chemical-oven SHS(COSHS)route to thermally assist the synthesis reaction.The threshold amount of 2%(mass fraction)PTFE was required to induce self-sustaining combustion.When the conventional SHS scheme was utilized,due to low combustion temperatures between 1152 and 1272°C and insufficient reaction time,the dominant carbide forming in the composite was ZrC instead of Zr2Al3C4.On the other hand,the COSHS technique increased the combustion temperature of the reactant compact to about 1576°C,lengthened the high-temperature duration for the reaction,and prevented Al vapor from escaping away.As a consequence,Zr2Al3C4-Al2O3 composites with a small amount of Zr3Al3C5 were obtained.The microstructure of the COSHS-derived product showed that plate-like Zr2Al3C4 grains were about 2μm in thickness and 10-30μm in length,and most of them were closely stacked into a laminated configuration.展开更多

This new model handling both fluctuatio...The origin of the Johnson noise of resistors is reviewed by a new model fitting in the Fluctuation-Dissipation framework and compared with the velocity noise in Brownian motion. This new model handling both fluctuations as well as dissipations of electrical energy in the Complex Admittance of any resistor excels current model based on the dissipation in their conductance. From the two orthogonal currents associated to a sinusoidal voltage in an electrical admittance, the new model that also considers the discreteness of the electrical charge shows a Cause-Effect dynamics for electrical noise. After a brief look at systems considered as energy-conserving and deterministic on the microscale that are dissipative and unpredictable on the macroscale, the arrow of time is discussed from the noise viewpoint.展开更多
In this study,taking China's Smart Dragon 3 solid launch vehicle,which made its first successful offshore launch on December 9,2022,as an example,we focus on the technical characteristics and key technologies of v...In this study,taking China's Smart Dragon 3 solid launch vehicle,which made its first successful offshore launch on December 9,2022,as an example,we focus on the technical characteristics and key technologies of various solid motors used for the launch vehicle.The current technological development status is introduced,and the key technologies needed for large solid motors are summarized.For comparison,we also list and analyze the technical characteristics of world-class P80 and P120C solid motors used in ESA's Vega series of launch vehicles.On this basis,the development trends of large solid motors based on the requirements for launch vehicles is proposed,providing a reference for the development of large solid motor technology for future launch vehicles in China.展开更多
