MXene-based smart contact lenses demonstrate a cutting-edge advancement in wearable ophthalmic technology,combining real-time biosensing,therapeutic capabilities,and user comfort in a single platform.These devices take the advantage of the exceptional electrical conductivity,mechanical flexibility,and biocompatibility of two-dimensional MXenes to enable noninvasive,tear-based monitoring of key physiological markers such as intraocular pressure and glucose levels.Recent developments focus on the integration of transparent MXene films into the conventional lens materials,allowing multifunctional performance including photothermal therapy,antimicrobial and anti-inflammation protection,and dehydration resistance.These innovations offer promising strategies for ocular disease management and eye protection.In addition to their multifunctionality,improvements in MXene synthesis and device engineering have enhanced the stability,transparency,and wearability of these lenses.Despite these advances,challenges remain in long-term biostability,scalable production,and integration with wireless communication systems.This review summarizes the current progress,key challenges,and future directions of MXene-based smart contact lenses,highlighting their transformative potential in next-generation digital healthcare and ophthalmic care. 展开更多

Although different studies have associated coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)with the occurrence of liver injury,the hepatic injury route during the COVID-19 course is not yet fully understood.In order to better understand the mechanisms of the disease,the human gut microbiota has been the subject of extensive discussion in the context of COVID-19 pathophysiology.However,many questions remain,including the risks of liver injury due to COVID-19 specific populations.Further research in this field could allow the discovery of new personalized treatment strategies aimed at improving the microbiota composition,thereby reducing COVID-19 severity and its complications in different populations.In this article,we discussed basic mechanisms of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection and recent evidence on the relationship between COVID-19,the gut microbiome and liver injury as well as proposed recommendations for further research. 展开更多

In this study, the welding technology of the hot-rolled extra-high-strength steel, BS960QC, has been comprehensively investigated. Analysis has been made on the weldability ,the different welding procedures ,the mechanical properties, and the fatigue properties, and a set of recommendation guidelines have been proposed for evaluating the welded joints of the extra-high-strength steel. The research and results indicate that the hot-rolled extra-high-strength steel, BS960QC,has good weldability and an excellent adaptability to welding procedures. Further,the excellent mechanical properties and fatigue properties of the welded joints ,which can be achieved by using optimized welding procedures, can completely meet the technical requirements of the construction machinery industry. 展开更多

Technological Perspectives in Phylogeny Research: Revisiting Comparative Analysis of Complete Mitochondrial Genomes for Time-Extended Lineages

This article seeks to emphasize a simplified approach to phylogeny research using complete mitochondrial genomes alone, while touching upon a number of technological perspectives, such as algorithmic selection, which can help improve accuracy and performance in comparative analysis. My results will show that reliable estimations can be obtained by using mitochondrial markers, even among time-extended taxonomical rankings. Six distinct mammalian groups of taxa were selected for comparison. In all cases, mtDNA models generated reliable phylogeny approximations when compared against other independent data, while rendering exceptional computational performance. 展开更多

HANARO (High-Flux Advanced Neutron Application Reactor) is a 30MWth multi-purpose research reactor generating a very high neutron flux for scientific and technical applications. Since its initial criticality in Feb. 1995, it has worked as a national neutron source for neutron beam research, RI production and related research, material and fuel irradiation research, and neutron transmutation doping. The installation of a cold neutron source and related beam instrument makes HANARO serve as a regional source for beam research as well. As Korea is developing nuclear power systems and fuels, irradiation research is a main utilization subject in HANARO, and irradiation facilities have been actively utilized for various nuclear fuel and material irradiation tests requested by users from research institutes, universities, and industries. Most of the irradiation tests were related to the R & D relevant to the ageing management and safety evaluation of the present nuclear power reactors. Korea is conducting R & D programs relevant to new nuclear systems including a research reactor, System-integrated Modular Advanced Reactor (SMART), and future nuclear systems such as a very high temperature reactor system (VHTR) and sodium cooled fast reactor system (SFR). To effectively support the R&D for new nuclear systems, advanced irradiation technologies such as high-temperature irradiation, instrumentation, and long-term irradiation are being developed. In addition, research on the irradiation characteristics of super-conductor materials and new chemical materials is being conducted as a part of fundamental research. 展开更多

The paper presents the research on self-balancing two-wheels mobile robot control system analysis with experimental studies.The research problem in this work is to stabilize the mobile robot with self-control and to carry the sensitive things without failing in a long span period.The main objective of this study is to focus on the mathematical modelling of mobile robot from laboratory scale to real world applications.The numerical expression with mathematical modelling is very important to control the mobile robot system with linearization.The fundamental concepts of dynamic system stability were utilized for maintaining the stability of the constructed mobile robot system.The controller design is also important for checking the stability and the appropriate controller design is proportional,integral,and derivative-PID controller and Linear Quadratic Regulator(LQR).The steady state error could be reduced by using such kind of PID controller.The simulation of numerical expression on mathematical modeling was conducted in MATLAB environments.The confirmation results from the simulation techniques were applied to construct the hardware design of mobile robot system for practical study.The results from simulation approaches and experimental approaches are matched in various kinds of analyses.The constructed mobile robot system was designed and analyzed in the control system design laboratory of Yangon Technological University(YTU). 展开更多

Composites made from biopolymers and natural fibers are gaining popularity as alternative sustainable structural materials.Biopolyesters including polylactic acid(PLA),polybutylene succinate(PBS),and polyhydroxyalkanoate(PHA),when mixed with natural fibers such as kenaf,hemp,and jute,provide an environmentally acceptable alternative to traditional fossil-based materials.This article examines current research on developments in the integration of biopolymers with natural fibers,with a focus on enhancing mechanical,thermal,and sustainability.Innovative approaches to surface treatment of natural fibers,such as biological and chemical treatments,have demonstrated enhanced adhesion with biopolymer matrices,increasing attributes such as tensile strength and rigidity.Furthermore,nano filling technologies such as nanocellulose and nanoparticles have improved the attributes of multifunctional composites,including heat conductivity and moisture resistance.According to performance analysis,biopolymernatural fiber-based composites may compete with synthetic composites in construction applications,particularly in lightweight buildings and automobiles.However,significant issues such as degradation in humid settings and longtermendurancemust be solved.To support a circular economy,solutions involve the development ofmoisture-resistant polymers and composite recycling technology.This article examines current advancements and identifies problems and opportunities to provide insight into the future direction of more inventive and sustainable biocomposites,and also the dangers they pose to green technology and industrial materials.These findings are significant in terms of the development of building materials which are not only competitive but also contribute to global sustainability. 展开更多

The critical role of patient-reported outcome measures(PROMs)in enhancing clinical decision-making and promoting patient-centered care has gained a profound significance in scientific research.PROMs encapsulate a patient's health status directly from their perspective,encompassing various domains such as symptom severity,functional status,and overall quality of life.By integrating PROMs into routine clinical practice and research,healthcare providers can achieve a more nuanced understanding of patient experiences and tailor treatments accordingly.The deployment of PROMs supports dynamic patient-provider interactions,fostering better patient engagement and adherence to tre-atment plans.Moreover,PROMs are pivotal in clinical settings for monitoring disease progression and treatment efficacy,particularly in chronic and mental health conditions.However,challenges in implementing PROMs include data collection and management,integration into existing health systems,and acceptance by patients and providers.Overcoming these barriers necessitates technological advancements,policy development,and continuous education to enhance the acceptability and effectiveness of PROMs.The paper concludes with recommendations for future research and policy-making aimed at optimizing the use and impact of PROMs across healthcare settings. 展开更多

Objective To investigate the association between ABO blood types and gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM)risk.Methods A prospective birth cohort study was conducted.ABO blood types were determined using the slide method.GDM diagnosis was based on a 75-g,2-h oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT)according to the criteria of the International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups.Logistic regression was applied to calculate the odds ratios(ORs)and 95%confidence intervals(CIs)between ABO blood types and GDM risk.Results A total of 30,740 pregnant women with a mean age of 31.81 years were enrolled in this study.The ABO blood types distribution was:type O(30.99%),type A(26.58%),type B(32.20%),and type AB(10.23%).GDM was identified in 14.44%of participants.Using blood type O as a reference,GDM risk was not significantly higher for types A(OR=1.05)or B(OR=1.04).However,women with type AB had a 19%increased risk of GDM(OR=1.19,95%CI=1.05–1.34;P<0.05),even after adjusting for various factors.This increased risk for type AB was consistent across subgroup and sensitivity analyses.Conclusion The ABO blood types may influence GDM risk,with type AB associated with a higher risk.Incorporating it—either as a single risk factor or in combination with other known factors—could help identify individuals at risk for GDM before or during early pregnancy. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Mesenchymal stromal cells(MSCs)are renowned for their immunosuppressive properties,which make them widely used in managing excessive inflammation.Although CD146+and CD146-MSCs exhibit similar morphological traits and surface marker expression levels,the specific characteristics and differential regulatory mechanisms of these two subtypes remain poorly understood.This knowledge gap has limited the precise application of MSCs in targeted thera-peutic strategies.AIM To compare the functional differences between CD146+and CD146-MSCs and investigate the underlying mechanisms.METHODS In this study,magnetic beads were used to sort umbilical cord-derived MSCs into CD146+and CD146-subsets.The pro-angiogenic factors(hepatocyte growth factor,prostaglandin E2,vascular endothelial growth factor,angiopoietin-1)production and immunomodulatory effects on T lymphocyte subsets were evaluated in vitro.The therapeutic efficacy was assessed in an acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS)mouse model via tail vein injection.RESULTS Cytokine secretion and angiogenesis:CD146+MSCs significantly increased the production of hepatocyte growth factor,prostaglandin E2,vascular endothelial growth factor,and angiopoietin-1 and exhibited increased pro-angiogenic activity in vitro.Immunomodulatory effects:CD146+MSCs potently inhibited the differentiation and proliferation of pro-inflammatory T helper type 1/T helper type 17 cells while promoting the expansion of regulatory T cells during T lymphocyte activation.ARDS therapy:In a mouse ARDS model,compared with CD146-MSCs,CD146+MSCs demonstrated superior therapeutic efficacy,as evidenced by improved clinical scores.Mechanistically,CD146+MSCs activated the nuclear factor kappa B pathway,upregulated cyclooxygenase 2 expression,and facilitated damaged epithelial cell repair.CONCLUSION CD146+MSCs show stronger ARDS therapeutic potential than CD146-MSCs via pro-angiogenic/immunomodulatory traits.Nuclear factor kappa B/cyclooxygenase 2 activation aids epithelial repair,highlighting CD146+MSCs as promising targets. 展开更多

Most studies assessing urine biochemistry for acute kidney injury(AKI)monitoring rely on paradigms from the 1970s.It was proposed that a single measurement of urinary parameters in the presence of increased serum creatinine(sCr)could help understand AKI pathophysiology and predict its duration.However,those studies produced variable and controversial results.Recently,an alternative“urine biochemical approach”has been proposed.In contrast with the traditional approach,it includes sequential urine electrolyte assessment,evaluation before AKI diagnosis,and interpretation of avid sodium retention as a marker of renal microcirculatory stress instead of low renal perfusion.This review highlights the rationale of this alternative approach,which is focused on early urinary biochemical changes that precede increases in sCr as well as signs of renal recovery before decreases in sCr.The relevance of urine composition in conjunction with urine volume for a proper evaluation of renal function is emphasized.This new approach aims to enhance the utility of urinary biochemical parameters in AKI monitoring,particularly in patients who are critically ill. 展开更多

Sugarcane bagasse(SCB)is a promising natural fiber for bio-based composites,but its high moisture absorption and poor interfacial adhesion with polymer matrices limit mechanical performance.While chemical treatments have been extensively explored,limited research has addressed how thermal treatment alone alters the surface properties and reinforcing behavior of SCB fibers.This study aims to fill that gap by investigating the effects of heat treatment on SCB fiber structure and its performance in starch/poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA)composites.Characterization techniques including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),X-ray diffraction(XRD),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),and scanning electron microscopy(SEM)were employed to analyze changes in fiber morphology,surface chemistry,and crystallinity.Mechanical properties were assessed via tensile,flexural,and impact testing,and moisture absorption was also evaluated.Composites reinforced with SCB fibers treated at 200○C exhibited significantly superior mechanical properties compared to those prepared with untreated or differently treated fibers.The tensile,flexural,and impact performance of the composites were 15.13,19.37 MPa,and 7.28 J/m,respectively.Composites treated at this temperature also retained better mechanical properties after exposure to humidity.These findings demonstrate that heat treatment is a simple and sustainable method to improve the durability and mechanical performance of nature fiber-reinforced composites,expanding their potential for environmentally friendly material applications. 展开更多

Water power is one of the key renewable energy resources,whose efficiency is often hampered due to inefficient water flow management,turbine performance,and environmental variations.Most existing optimization techniques lack the real-time adaptability to sufficiently allocate resources in terms of location and time.Hence,a novel Scalable Tas-manian Devil Optimization(STDO)algorithm is introduced to optimize hydropower generation for maximum power efficiency.Using the STDO to model important system characteristics including water flow,turbine changes,and energy conversion efficiency is part of the process.In the final analysis,optimizing these settings in would help reduce inefficiencies and maximize power generation output.Following that,simulations based on actual hydroelectric data are used to analyze the algorithm's effectiveness.The simulation results provide evidence that the STDO algorithm can enhance hydropower plant efficiency tremendously translating to considerable energy output augmentation compared to conven-tional optimization methods.STDO achieves the reliability(92.5),resiliency(74.3),and reduced vulnerability(9.3).To guarantee increased efficiency towards ecologically friendly power generation,the STDO algorithm may thus offer efficient resource optimization for hydropower.A clear route is made available for expanding the efficiency of current hydropower facilities while tackling the long-term objectives of reducing the environmental impact and increasing the energy output of energy produced from renewable sources. 展开更多

The increasing global demand for energy,coupled with concerns about environmental sustainability,has underscored the need for a transition toward renewable energy sources.A well-structured teaching program under the framework of sustainable development in renewable energy seeks to give students the information,abilities,and critical thinking needed to solve energy-related problems sustainably.This research proposes AI-powered personalized learning,innovative real-time integration of diverse data,and adaptive teaching strategies to enhance student understanding regarding renewable energy concepts.The sheep flock-optimized innovative recurrent neural network(SFO-IRNN)will recommend relevant topics and resources based on students’performance.Renewable energy teaching data from assessmethments are combined with real-time IoT-based renewable energy data.This dataset contains renewable energy education using AI-driven teaching methods and internet-based learning.The data was preprocessed by handling missing values and min-max scaling.The data features were extracted using Fourier Transform(FT).Further application of 10-fold cross-validation will increase the reliability of the model as it can evaluate its performance metrics like accuracy,F1-score,recall,and precision on different subsets of student data,which improves its robustness and prevents overfitting.The findings showed that the proposed method is significantly better,which ensures that the students have a deeper theoretical and practical understanding of renewable energy technologies.In addition,integrating real-time IoT data from renewable energy sources gives students a chance to do live simulations and problems that would enhance analytical thinking and hands-on learning.The research shows that AI provides context-aware guidance on sustainable energy infrastructure,enhancing interactive and personalized learning. 展开更多
