Although digital changes in power systems have added more ways to monitor and control them, these changes have also led to new cyber-attack risks, mainly from False Data Injection(FDI)attacks. If this happens, the sensors and operations are compromised, which can lead to big problems, disruptions, failures and blackouts. In response to this challenge, this paper presents a reliable and innovative detection framework that leverages Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory(Bi-LSTM)networks and employs explanatory methods from Artificial Intelligence(AI).Not only does the suggested architecture detect potential fraud with high accuracy, but it also makes its decisions transparent, enabling operators to take appropriate action.Themethod developed here utilizesmodel-free,interpretable tools to identify essential input elements, thereby making predictions more understandable and usable.Enhancing detection performance is made possible by correcting class imbalance using Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique(SMOTE)-based data balancing.Benchmark power system data confirms that the model functions correctly through detailed experiments.Experimental results showed that Bi-LSTM+Explainable AI(XAI)achieved an average accuracy of 94%,surpassing XGBoost(89%)and Bagging(84%),while ensuring explainability and a high level of robustness across various operating scenarios.By conducting an ablation study,we find that bidirectional recursive modeling and ReLU activation help improve generalization and model predictability.Additionally, examining model decisions through LIME enables us to identify which features are crucial for making smart grid operational decisions in real time. The research offers a practical and flexible approach for detecting FDI attacks, improving the security of cyber-physical systems, and facilitating the deployment of AI in energy infrastructure. 展开更多

Globally, skin cancer is a prevalent form of malignancy, and its early and accurate diagnosis is critical for patient survival.Clinical evaluation of skin lesions is essential, but several challenges, such as long waiting times and subjective interpretations, make this task difficult. The recent advancement of deep learning in healthcare has shownmuch success in diagnosing and classifying skin cancer and has assisted dermatologists in clinics.Deep learning improves the speed and precision of skin cancer diagnosis, leading to earlier prediction and treatment. In this work,we proposed a novel deep architecture for skin cancer classification in innovative healthcare. The proposed framework performed data augmentation at the first step to resolve the imbalance issue in the selected dataset. The proposed architecture is based on two customized, innovative Convolutional neural network(CNN)models based on small depth and filter sizes. In the first model, four residual blocks are added in a squeezed fashion with a small filter size.In the second model, five residual blocks are added with smaller depth and more useful weight information of the lesion region. To make models more useful,we selected the hyperparameters through Bayesian Optimization,in which the learning rate is selected. After training the proposed models, deep features are extracted and fused using a novel information entropy-controlled Euclidean Distance technique. The final features are passed on to the classifiers, and classification results are obtained. Also, the proposed trained model is interpreted through LIME-based localization on the HAM10000 dataset. The experimental process of the proposed architecture is performed on two dermoscopic datasets,HAM10000 and ISIC2019.We obtained an improved accuracy of 90.8%and 99.3%on these datasets, respectively. Also, the proposed architecture returned 91.6%for the cancer localization. In conclusion, the proposed architecture accuracy is compared with several pre-trained and state-of-the-art(SOTA)techniques and shows improved performance. 展开更多

Sustainable energy systems will entail a change in the carbon intensity projections, which should be carried out in a proper manner to facilitate the smooth running of the grid and reduce greenhouse emissions. The present article outlines the TransCarbonNet,a novel hybrid deep learning framework with self-attention characteristics added to the bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory(Bi-LSTM)network to forecast the carbon intensity of the grid several days. The proposed temporal fusion model not only learns the local temporal interactions but also the long-term patterns of the carbon emission data;hence,it is able to give suitable forecasts over a period of seven days.TransCarbonNet takes advantage of a multi-head self-attention element to identify significant temporal connections, which means the Bi-LSTM element calculates sequential dependencies in both directions.Massive tests on two actual data sets indicate much improved results in comparison with the existing results, with mean relative errors of 15.3 percent and 12.7 percent, respectively. The framework has given explicable weights of attention that reveal critical periods that influence carbon intensity alterations, and informed decisions on the management of carbon sustainability. The effectiveness of the proposed solution has been validated in numerous cases of operations, and TransCarbonNet is established to be an effective tool when it comes to carbon-friendly optimization of the grid. 展开更多

Accurate purchase prediction in e-commerce critically depends on the quality of behavioral features. This paper proposes a layered and interpretable feature engineering framework that organizes user signals into three layers:Basic,Conversion&Stability(efficiency and volatility across actions),and Advanced Interactions&Activity(crossbehavior synergies and intensity).Using real Taobao(Alibaba’s primary e-commerce platform)logs(57,976 records for 10,203 users;25 November–03 December 2017),we conducted a hierarchical,layer-wise evaluation that holds data splits and hyperparameters fixed while varying only the feature set to quantify each layer’s marginal contribution.Across logistic regression(LR),decision tree, random forest,XGBoost, and CatBoost models with stratified 5-fold cross-validation,the performance improvedmonotonically fromBasic to Conversion&Stability to Advanced features. With LR,F1 increased from 0.613(Basic)to 0.962(Advanced);boosted models achieved high discrimination(0.995 AUC Score)and an F1 score up to 0.983.Calibration and precision–recall analyses indicated strong ranking quality and acknowledged potential dataset and period biases given the short(9-day)window.By making feature contributions measurable and reproducible, the framework complements model-centric advances and offers a transparent blueprint for production-grade behavioralmodeling. The code and processed artifacts are publicly available, and future work will extend the validation to longer, seasonal datasets and hybrid approaches that combine automated feature learning with domain-driven design. 展开更多

Salient object detection(SOD)models struggle to simultaneously preserve global structure, maintain sharp object boundaries, and sustain computational efficiency in complex scenes. In this study,we propose SPSALNet,a task-driven two-stage(macro–micro)architecture that restructures the SOD process around superpixel representations. In the proposed approach,a“split-and-enhance”principle,introduced to our knowledge for the first time in the SOD literature, hierarchically classifies superpixels and then applies targeted refinement only to ambiguous or error-prone regions. At the macro stage, the image is partitioned into content-adaptive superpixel regions, and each superpixel is represented by a high-dimensional region-level feature vector. These representations define a regional decomposition problem in which superpixels are assigned to three classes:background, object interior, and transition regions.Superpixel tokens interact with a global feature vector from a deep network backbone through a cross-attention module and are projected into an enriched embedding space that jointly encodes local topology and global context. At the micro stage, the model employs a U-Net-based refinement process that allocates computational resources only to ambiguous transition regions. The image and distance–similarity maps derived from superpixels are processed through a dual-encoder pathway.Subsequently,channel-aware fusion blocks adaptively combine information from these two sources, producing sharper and more stable object boundaries.Experimental results show that SPSALNet achieves high accuracy with lower computational cost compared to recent competing methods. On the PASCAL-S and DUT-OMRON datasets,SPSALNet exhibits a clear performance advantage across all key metrics, and it ranks first on accuracy-oriented measures on HKU-IS.On the challenging DUT-OMRON benchmark,SPSALNet reaches a MAE of 0.034.Across all datasets,it preserves object boundaries and regional structure in a stable and competitive manner. 展开更多

Wi-Fi technology has evolved significantly since its introduction in 1997,advancing to Wi-Fi 6 as the latest standard, with Wi-Fi 7 currently under development.Despite these advancements, integrating machine learning into Wi-Fi networks remains challenging, especially in decentralized environments with multiple access points(mAPs).This paper is a short review that summarizes the potential applications of federated reinforcement learning(FRL)across eight key areas of Wi-Fi functionality, including channel access, link adaptation,beamforming,multi-user transmissions, channel bonding,multi-link operation, spatial reuse, and multi-basic servic set(multi-BSS)coordination.FRL is highlighted as a promising framework for enabling decentralized training and decision-making while preserving data privacy. To illustrate its role in practice,we present a case study on link activation in a multi-link operation(MLO)environment with multiple APs.Through theoretical discussion and simulation results, the study demonstrates how FRL can improve performance and reliability, paving the way for more adaptive and collaborative Wi-Fi networks in the era of Wi-Fi 7 and beyond. 展开更多

Honeycombing Lung(HCL)is a chronic lung condition marked by advanced fibrosis, resulting in enlarged air spaces with thick fibrotic walls, which are visible on Computed Tomography(CT)scans.Differentiating between normal lung tissue, honeycombing lungs, and Ground Glass Opacity(GGO)in CT images is often challenging for radiologists and may lead to misinterpretations.Although earlier studies have proposed models to detect and classify HCL,many faced limitations such as high computational demands, lower accuracy, and difficulty distinguishing between HCL and GGO.CT images are highly effective for lung classification due to their high resolution,3D visualization, and sensitivity to tissue density variations. This study introduces Honeycombing Lungs Network(HCL Net),a novel classification algorithm inspired by ResNet50V2 and enhanced to overcome the shortcomings of previous approaches.HCL Net incorporates additional residual blocks, refined preprocessing techniques, and selective parameter tuning to improve classification performance. The dataset, sourced from the University Malaya Medical Centre(UMMC)and verified by expert radiologists, consists of CT images of normal, honeycombing, and GGO lungs.Experimental evaluations across five assessments demonstrated that HCL Net achieved an outstanding classification accuracy of approximately 99.97%.It also recorded strong performance in other metrics, achieving 93%precision,100%sensitivity,89%specificity,and an AUC-ROC score of 97%.Comparative analysis with baseline feature engineering methods confirmed the superior efficacy of HCL Net.The model significantly reduces misclassification, particularly between honeycombing and GGO lungs, enhancing diagnostic precision and reliability in lung image analysis. 展开更多

Modern intrusion detection systems(MIDS)face persistent challenges in coping with the rapid evolution of cyber threats,high-volume network traffic, and imbalanced datasets.Traditional models often lack the robustness and explainability required to detect novel and sophisticated attacks effectively. This study introduces an advanced, explainable machine learning framework for multi-class IDS using the KDD99 and IDS datasets, which reflects real-world network behavior through a blend of normal and diverse attack classes. The methodology begins with sophisticated data preprocessing, incorporating both RobustScaler and QuantileTransformer to address outliers and skewed feature distributions, ensuring standardized and model-ready inputs.Critical dimensionality reduction is achieved via the Harris Hawks Optimization(HHO)algorithm—a nature-inspired metaheuristic modeled on hawks’hunting strategies.HHO efficiently identifies the most informative features by optimizing a fitness function based on classification performance.Following feature selection, the SMOTE is applied to the training data to resolve class imbalance by synthetically augmenting underrepresented attack types. The stacked architecture is then employed, combining the strengths of XGBoost,SVM,and RF as base learners. This layered approach improves prediction robustness and generalization by balancing bias and variance across diverse classifiers. The model was evaluated using standard classification metrics:precision,recall,F1-score,and overall accuracy. The best overall performance was recorded with an accuracy of 99.44%for UNSW-NB15,demonstrating the model’s effectiveness. After balancing, the model demonstrated a clear improvement in detecting the attacks. We tested the model on four datasets to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach and performed the ablation study to check the effect of each parameter. Also, the proposed model is computationaly efficient. To support transparency and trust in decision-making,explainable AI(XAI)techniques are incorporated that provides both global and local insight into feature contributions, and offers intuitive visualizations for individual predictions. This makes it suitable for practical deployment in cybersecurity environments that demand both precision and accountability. 展开更多

Most predictive maintenance studies have emphasized accuracy but provide very little focus on Interpretability or deployment readiness. This study improves on prior methods by developing a small yet robust system that can predict when turbofan engines will fail.It uses the NASA CMAPSS dataset, which has over 200,000 engine cycles from260 engines. The process begins with systematic preprocessing, which includes imputation, outlier removal, scaling, and labelling of the remaining useful life.Dimensionality is reduced using a hybrid selection method that combines variance filtering, recursive elimination, and gradient-boosted importance scores, yielding a stable set of 10 informative sensors. To mitigate class imbalance, minority cases are oversampled, and class-weighted losses are applied during training.Benchmarking is carried out with logistic regression, gradient boosting, and a recurrent design that integrates gated recurrent units with long short-term memory networks. The Long Short-Term Memory–Gated Recurrent Unit(LSTM–GRU)hybrid achieved the strongest performance with an F1 score of 0.92,precision of 0.93,recall of 0.91,ReceiverOperating Characteristic–AreaUnder the Curve(ROC-AUC)of 0.97,andminority recall of 0.75.Interpretability testing using permutation importance and Shapley values indicates that sensors 13,15,and 11 are the most important indicators of engine wear. The proposed system combines imbalance handling, feature reduction, and Interpretability into a practical design suitable for real industrial settings. 展开更多

Deep neural networks have achieved excellent classification results on several computer vision benchmarks. This has led to the popularity of machine learning as a service, where trained algorithms are hosted on the cloud and inference can be obtained on real-world data.In most applications,it is important to compress the vision data due to the enormous bandwidth and memory requirements.Video codecs exploit spatial and temporal correlations to achieve high compression ratios, but they are computationally expensive. This work computes the motion fields between consecutive frames to facilitate the efficient classification of videos. However, contrary to the normal practice of reconstructing the full-resolution frames through motion compensation, this work proposes to infer the class label from the block-based computed motion fields directly.Motion fields are a richer and more complex representation of motion vectors, where each motion vector carries the magnitude and direction information. This approach has two advantages:the cost of motion compensation and video decoding is avoided, and the dimensions of the input signal are highly reduced. This results in a shallower network for classification. The neural network can be trained using motion vectors in two ways:complex representations and magnitude-direction pairs. The proposed work trains a convolutional neural network on the direction and magnitude tensors of the motion fields. Our experimental results show 20×faster convergence during training, reduced overfitting, and accelerated inference on a hand gesture recognition dataset compared to full-resolution and downsampled frames. We validate the proposed methodology on the HGds dataset, achieving a testing accuracy of 99.21%,on the HMDB51 dataset, achieving 82.54%accuracy,and on the UCF101 dataset, achieving 97.13%accuracy,outperforming state-of-the-art methods in computational efficiency. 展开更多

Cyber-criminals target smart connected devices for spyware distribution and security breaches, but existing Internet of Things(IoT)security standards are insufficient.Major IoT industry players prioritize market share over security, leading to insecure smart products.Traditional host-based protection solutions are less effective due to limited resources.Overcoming these challenges and enhancing the security of IoT Devices requires a security design at the network level that uses lightweight cryptographic parameters. In order to handle control, administration, and security concerns in traditional networking, the Gateway Node offers a contemporary networking architecture.By managing all network-level computations and complexity, the Gateway Node relieves IoT devices of these responsibilities. In this study,we introduce a novel privacy-preserving security architecture for gateway-node smart homes.Subsequently,we develop Smart Homes,An Efficient,Anonymous, and Robust Authentication Scheme(EARAS)based on the foundational principles of this security architecture.Furthermore,we formally examine the security characteristics of our suggested protocol that makes use of methodology such as ProVerif, supplemented by an informal analysis of security.Lastly,we conduct performance evaluations and comparative analyses to assess the efficacy of our scheme.Performance analysis shows that EARAS achieves up to 30%to 54%more efficient than most protocols and lower computation cost compared to Banerjee et al.’s scheme, and significantly reduces communication overhead compared to other recent protocols, while ensuring comprehensive security. Our objective is to provide robust security measures for smart homes while addressing resource constraints and preserving user privacy. 展开更多

With the increasing growth of online news, fake electronic news detection has become one of the most important paradigms of modern research.Traditional electronic news detection techniques are generally based on contextual understanding, sequential dependencies,and/or data imbalance. This makes distinction between genuine and fabricated news a challenging task.To address this problem,we propose a novel hybrid architecture,T5-SA-LSTM,which synergistically integrates the T5 Transformer for semantically rich contextual embedding with the Self-Attentionenhanced(SA)Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM).The LSTM is trained using the Adam optimizer, which provides faster and more stable convergence compared to the Stochastic Gradient Descend(SGD)and Root Mean Square Propagation(RMSProp). The WELFake and FakeNewsPrediction datasets are used, which consist of labeled news articles having fake and real news samples.Tokenization and Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique(SMOTE)methods are used for data preprocessing to ensure linguistic normalization and class imbalance. The incorporation of the Self-Attention(SA)mechanism enables the model to highlight critical words and phrases, thereby enhancing predictive accuracy. The proposed model is evaluated using accuracy, precision, recall(sensitivity),and F1-score as performance metrics. The model achieved 99%accuracy on the WELFake dataset and 96.5%accuracy on the FakeNewsPrediction dataset. It outperformed the competitive schemes such as T5-SA-LSTM(RMSProp),T5-SA-LSTM(SGD)and some other models. 展开更多

Recognising human-object interactions(HOI)is a challenging task for traditional machine learning models, including convolutional neural networks(CNNs).Existing models show limited transferability across complex datasets such as D3D-HOI and SYSU 3D HOI.The conventional architecture of CNNs restricts their ability to handle HOI scenarios with high complexity.HOI recognition requires improved feature extraction methods to overcome the current limitations in accuracy and scalability. This work proposes a Novel quantum gate-enabled hybrid CNN(QEH-CNN)for effectiveHOI recognition.Themodel enhancesCNNperformance by integrating quantumcomputing components. The framework begins with bilateral image filtering, followed bymulti-object tracking(MOT)and Felzenszwalb superpixel segmentation.A watershed algorithm refines object boundaries by cleaning merged superpixels.Feature extraction combines a histogram of oriented gradients(HOG),Global Image Statistics for Texture(GIST)descriptors, and a novel 23-joint keypoint extractionmethod using relative joint angles and joint proximitymeasures.A fuzzy optimization process refines the extracted features before feeding them into the QEH-CNNmodel.The proposed model achieves 95.06%accuracy on the 3D-D3D-HOI dataset and 97.29%on the SYSU3DHOI dataset.Theintegration of quantum computing enhances feature optimization, leading to improved accuracy and overall model efficiency. 展开更多

Objective:Deep learning is employed increasingly in Gastroenterology(GI)endoscopy computer-aided diagnostics for polyp segmentation and multi-class disease detection. In the real world, implementation requires high accuracy, therapeutically relevant explanations, strong calibration, domain generalization, and efficiency.Current Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)and transformer models compromise border precision and global context, generate attention maps that fail to align with expert reasoning, deteriorate during cross-center changes, and exhibit inadequate calibration, hence diminishing clinical trust.Methods:HMA-DER is a hierarchical multi-attention architecture that uses dilation-enhanced residual blocks and an explainability-aware Cognitive Alignment Score(CAS)regularizer to directly align attribution maps with reasoning signals from experts. The framework has additions that make it more resilient and a way to test for accuracy,macro-averaged F1 score,Area Under the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve(AUROC),calibration(Expected Calibration Error(ECE),Brier Score),explainability(CAS,insertion/deletion AUC),cross-dataset transfer, and throughput.Results:HMA-DER gets Dice Similarity Coefficient scores of 89.5%and 86.0%on Kvasir-SEG and CVC-ClinicDB,beating the strongest baseline by+1.9 and+1.7 points. It gets 86.4%and 85.3%macro-F1 and 94.0%and 93.4%AUROC on HyperKvasir and GastroVision, which is better than the baseline by+1.4/+1.6macro-F1 and+1.2/+1.1AUROC.Ablation study shows that hierarchical attention gives the highest(+3.0),followed by CAS regularization(+2–3),dilatation(+1.5–2.0),and residual connections(+2–3).Cross-dataset validation demonstrates competitive zero-shot transfer(e.g.,KS→CVC Dice 82.7%),whereas multi-dataset training diminishes the domain gap, yielding an 88.1%primary-metric average.HMA-DER’s mixed-precision inference can handle 155 pictures per second, which helps with calibration.Conclusion:HMA-DER strikes a compromise between accuracy, explainability, robustness, and efficiency for the use of reliable GI computer-aided diagnosis in real-world clinical settings. 展开更多

The cloud-fog computing paradigm has emerged as a novel hybrid computing model that integrates computational resources at both fog nodes and cloud servers to address the challenges posed by dynamic and heterogeneous computing networks.Finding an optimal computational resource for task offloading and then executing efficiently is a critical issue to achieve a trade-off between energy consumption and transmission delay. In this network, the task processed at fog nodes reduces transmission delay.Still,it increases energy consumption, while routing tasks to the cloud server saves energy at the cost of higher communication delay. Moreover, the order in which offloaded tasks are executed affects the system’s efficiency. For instance, executing lower-priority tasks before higher-priority jobs can disturb the reliability and stability of the system. Therefore,an efficient strategy of optimal computation offloading and task scheduling is required for operational efficacy. In this paper,we introduced a multi-objective and enhanced version of Cheeta Optimizer(CO),namely(MoECO),to jointly optimize the computation offloading and task scheduling in cloud-fog networks to minimize two competing objectives,i.e.,energy consumption and communication delay.MoECO first assigns tasks to the optimal computational nodes and then the allocated tasks are scheduled for processing based on the task priority. The mathematical modelling of CO needs improvement in computation time and convergence speed. Therefore,MoECO is proposed to increase the search capability of agents by controlling the search strategy based on a leader’s location. The adaptive step length operator is adjusted to diversify the solution and thus improves the exploration phase,i.e.,global search strategy.Consequently, this prevents the algorithm from getting trapped in the local optimal solution. Moreover, the interaction factor during the exploitation phase is also adjusted based on the location of the prey instead of the adjacent Cheetah. This increases the exploitation capability of agents,i.e.,local search capability.Furthermore,MoECO employs a multi-objective Pareto-optimal front to simultaneously minimize designated objectives.Comprehensive simulations in MATLAB demonstrate that the proposed algorithm obtains multiple solutions via a Pareto-optimal front and achieves an efficient trade-off between optimization objectives compared to baseline methods. 展开更多

Human object detection and recognition is essential for elderly monitoring and assisted living however, models relying solely on pose or scene context often struggle in cluttered or visually ambiguous settings. To address this,we present SCENET-3D,a transformer-drivenmultimodal framework that unifies human-centric skeleton features with scene-object semantics for intelligent robotic vision through a three-stage pipeline. In the first stage, scene analysis, rich geometric and texture descriptors are extracted from RGB frames, including surface-normal histograms, angles between neighboring normals,Zernike moments, directional standard deviation, and Gabor-filter responses. In the second stage,scene-object analysis,non-human objects are segmented and represented using local feature descriptors and complementary surface-normal information. In the third stage,human-pose estimation, silhouettes are processed through an enhanced MoveNet to obtain 2D anatomical keypoints, which are fused with depth information and converted into RGB-based point clouds to construct pseudo-3D skeletons.Features from all three stages are fused and fed in a transformer encoder with multi-head attention to resolve visually similar activities.Experiments on UCLA(95.8%),ETRI-Activity3D(89.4%),andCAD-120(91.2%)demonstrate that combining pseudo-3D skeletonswith rich scene-object fusion significantly improves generalizable activity recognition, enabling safer elderly care, natural human–robot interaction, and robust context-aware robotic perception in real-world environments. 展开更多

This paper presents a unified Unmanned Aerial Vehicle-based(UAV-based)traffic monitoring framework that integrates vehicle detection, tracking, counting, motion prediction, and classification in a modular and co-optimized pipeline.Unlike prior works that address these tasks in isolation, our approach combines You Only Look Once(YOLO)v10 detection,ByteTrack tracking,optical-flow density estimation,Long Short-Term Memory-based(LSTM-based)trajectory forecasting, and hybrid Speeded-Up Robust Feature(SURF)+Gray-Level Co-occurrence Matrix(GLCM)feature engineering with VGG16 classification.Upon the validation across datasets(UAVDT and UAVID)our framework achieved a detection accuracy of 94.2%,and 92.3%detection accuracy when conducting a real-time UAV field validation. Our comprehensive evaluations, including multi-metric analyses, ablation studies, and cross-dataset validations, confirm the framework’s accuracy, efficiency, and generalizability. These results highlight the novelty of integrating complementary methods into a single framework, offering a practical solution for accurate and efficient UAV-based traffic monitoring. 展开更多
