Low-Complexity Digital Backpropagation for High-Symbol-Rate Coherent Optical Fiber Communication Systems

To achieve a low-complexity nonlinearity compensation(NLC)in high-symbol-rate(HSR)systems,we propose a modified weighted digital backpropagation(M-W-DBP)by jointly shifting the calculated position of nonlinear phase noise and considering the correlation of neighboring symbols in the NLC section of DBP.Based on this model,with the aid of neural network optimization,a learned version of M-W-DBP(M-W-LDBP)is also proposed and explored.Furthermore,enough technical details are revealed for the first time,including the principle of our proposed M-W-DBP and M-W-LDBP,the training process,and the complexity analysis of different DBPclass NLC algorithms.Evaluated numerically with QPSK,16QAM,and PS-64QAM modulation formats,1-step-per-span(1-StPS)M-W-DBP/LDBP achieves up to 1.29/1.49 dB and 0.63/0.74 dB signal-to-noise ratio improvement compared to chromatic dispersion compensation(CDC)in 90-GBaud and 128-GBaud 1000-km single-channel transmission systems,respectively.Moreover,1-StPS M-W-DBP/LDBP provides a more powerful NLC ability than 2-StPS LDBP but only needs about 60%of the complexity.The effectiveness of the proposed M-W-DBP and M-W-LDBP in the presence of laser phase noise is also verified and the necessity of using the learned version of M-WDBP is also discussed.This work is a comprehensive study of M-W-DBP/LDBP and other DBP-class NLC algorithms in HSR systems. 展开更多

Wireless communications in extreme environments,such as underwater and underground,is an essential technology for interconnecting various devices and enables data transmission and networking.Existing wireless technologies using electromagnetic(EM)waves face many known problems,such as high path loss,unpredictable multi-path fading,and large antenna size in the lossy medium.In this article,the magnetic induction(MI)based physical layer communication is introduced as a promising solution for wireless transmissions in extreme environments.Specifically,the fundamentals of the MI-based communications are reviewed.Then,with the goal of establishing reliable and low-power links between small-size devices,we review several key physical layer technologies for MI-based communications,including the MIbased signal modulations,magnetic beamforming,and relay transmissions,and summarize their state-of-theart research advances.Finally,the related open issues and challenges in each area are analyzed and presented for future investigations. 展开更多

In this paper,a sparse graph neural network-aided(SGNN-aided)decoder is proposed for improving the decoding performance of polar codes under bursty interference.Firstly,a sparse factor graph is constructed using the encoding characteristic to achieve high-throughput polar decoding.To further improve the decoding performance,a residual gated bipartite graph neural network is designed for updating embedding vectors of heterogeneous nodes based on a bidirectional message passing neural network.This framework exploits gated recurrent units and residual blocks to address the gradient disappearance in deep graph recurrent neural networks.Finally,predictions are generated by feeding the embedding vectors into a readout module.Simulation results show that the proposed decoder is more robust than the existing ones in the presence of bursty interference and exhibits high universality. 展开更多

Social media outlets deliver customers a medium for communication,exchange,and expression of their thoughts with others.The advent of social networks and the fast escalation of the quantity of data have created opportunities for textual evaluation.Utilising the user corpus,characteristics of social platform users,and other data,academic research may accurately discern the personality traits of users.This research examines the traits of consumer personalities.Usually,personality tests administered by psychological experts via interviews or self-report questionnaires are costly,time-consuming,complex,and labour-intensive.Currently,academics in computational linguistics are increasingly focused on predicting personality traits from social media data.An individual’s personality comprises their traits and behavioral habits.To address this distinction,we propose a novel LSTMapproach(BERT-LIWC-LSTM)that simultaneously incorporates users’enduring and immediate personality characteristics for textual personality recognition.Long-termPersonality Encoding in the proposed paradigmcaptures and represents persisting personality traits.Short-termPersonality Capturing records changing personality states.Experimental results demonstrate that the designed BERT-LIWC-LSTM model achieves an average improvement in accuracy of 3.41% on the Big Five dataset compared to current methods,thereby justifying the efficacy of encoding both stable and dynamic personality traits simultaneously through long-and short-term feature interaction. 展开更多

Parameters Optimization of Decoy-State Phase-Matching Quantum Key Distribution Based on the Nature-Inspired Algorithms

Phase-matching quantum-key distribution(PM-QKD)has achieved significant results in various practical applications.However,real-time communication requires dynamic adjustment and optimization of key parameters during communication.In this letter,we predict the PM-QKD parameters using nature-inspired algorithms(NIAs).The results are obtained from an exhaustive traversal algorithm(ETA),which serves as a benchmark.We mainly study the parameter optimization effects of the two NIAs:ant colony optimization(ACO)and the genetic algorithm(GA).The configuration of the inherent parameters of these algorithms in the decoy-state PM-QKD is also discussed.The simulation results indicate that the parameters obtained by the ACO exhibit superior convergence and stability,whereas the GA results are relatively scattered.Nevertheless,more than 97%of the key rates predicted by both algorithms are highly consistent with the optimal key rate.Moreover,the relative error of the key rates remained below 10%.Furthermore,NIAs maintain power consumption below 8 W and require three orders of magnitude less computing time than ETA. 展开更多

Wireless networks support numerous terminals,manage large data volumes,and provide diverse services,but the vulnerability to environmental changes leads to increased complexity and costs.Situational awareness has been widely applied in network management,but existing methods fail to find optimal solutions due to the high heterogeneity of base stations,numerous metrics,and complex intercell dependencies.To address this gap,this paper proposes a specialized framework for wireless networks,integrating an evaluation model and control approach.The framework expands the indicator set into four key areas,introduces an evaluation method,and proposes the indicator perturbation greedy(IPG)algorithm and the adjustment scheme selection method based on damping coefficient(DCSS)for effective network optimization.A case study in an urban area demonstrates the framework’s ability to balance and improve network performance,enhancing situational awareness and operational efficiency under dynamic conditions. 展开更多

High-quality services in today’s mobile networks require stable delivery of bandwidth-intensive network content.Multipath QUIC(MPQUIC),as a multipath protocol that extends QUIC,can utilize multiple paths to support stable and efficient transmission.The standard coupled congestion control algorithm in MPQUIC synchronizes these paths to manage congestion,meeting fairness requirements and improving transmission efficiency.However,current algorithms’Congestion Window(CWND)reduction approach significantly decreases CWND upon packet loss,which lowers effective throughput,regardless of the congestion origin.Furthermore,the uncoupled Slow-Start(SS)in MPQUIC leads to independent exponential CWND growth on each path,potentially causing buffer overflow.To address these issues,we propose the CC-OLIA,which incorporates Packet Loss Classifcation(PLC)and Coupled Slow-Start(CSS).The PLC distinguishes between congestion-induced and random packet losses,adjusting CWND reduction accordingly to maintain throughput.Concurrently,the CSS module coordinates CWND growth during the SS,preventing abrupt increases.Implementation on MININET shows that CC-OLIA not only maintains fair performance but also enhances transmission efficiency across diverse network conditions. 展开更多

We aim to find one highly nontrivial example of the solutions to the vortex fluid dynamical equation on the unit sphere(S^(2))and compare it with the numerical simulation.Since the rigid rotating steady solution for vortex fluids on S^(2)is already known to us,we consider the perturbations above it.After decomposing the perturbation of the vortex number density and vortex charge density into spherical harmonics,we find that the perturbations are propagating waves.To be precise,the velocities for different single-mode vortex number density waves are all the same,while the velocities for single-mode vortex charge density waves depend on the degree of the spherical harmonics l,which is a signal of the existence of dispersion.Meanwhile,we find that there is a beat phenomenon for the positive(or negative)vortex density wave.Numerical simulation based on the canonical equations for the point vortex model agrees perfectly with our theoretical calculations. 展开更多

Absorption imaging is a fundamental technique for quantitatively extracting information from ultracold atom experiments.Since ultracold^(6)Li atoms are prepared and detected under high magnetic fields,the suitable detuning of the probe light can reach the GHz level compared to zero-field imaging.Therefore,based on the energy level structure of^(6)Li atoms and the requirements of subsequent experiments,we design a high-field imaging system with a large frequency range and good robustness,starting from the rationality of the optical layout design and employing offset locking techniques.This imaging system covers the entire crossover region from Bose–Einstein condensate to Bardeen–Cooper–Schrieffer(BEC–BCS)and realizes free switching between zero-field and high-field imaging.Additionally,by introducing a proportionality coefficient to correct for the intensity fluctuations of the probe light,we mitigate its disturbance on the statistical measurement of particle numbers in the experiment.This work not only provides a design reference for other quantum gas experiments requiring absorption imaging under strong bias magnetic fields,but also serves as an important reference for improving the imaging performance. 展开更多

The band alignment between silicon and high-k dielectrics,which is a key factor in device operation and reliability,still suffers from uncontrolled fluctuations and ambiguous understanding.In this study,by conducting atomic-level ab initio calculations on realistic Si/SiO_(2)/HfO_(2)stacks,we reveal the physical origin of band alignment fluctuations,i.e.,the oxygen density-dependent interface and surface dipoles,and demonstrate that band offsets can be tuned without introducing other materials.This is instructive for reducing the gate tunneling current,alleviating device-to-device variation,and tuning the threshold voltage.Additionally,this study indicates that significant attention should be focused on model construction in emerging atomistic studies on semiconductor devices. 展开更多

Existing Generalized Receive Spatial Modulation(GRSM)with Symbol-Level Precoding(SLP)forces the received signals(excluding noise)at unintended antennas to be zero,which restricts the generation of strong constructive interference to intended receive antennas and thus limits the performance improvement over conventional GRSM with Zero-Forcing(ZF)precoding.In this paper,we propose a novel GRSM-SLP scheme that relaxes the zero receive power constraint and achieves superior performance by integrating Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces(IRSs).Specifically,our advanced GRSM-RSLP jointly exploits SLP at the transmitter and passive beamforming at the IRS to maximize the power difference between intended and unintended receive antennas,where the received signals at unintended antennas are relaxed to lie in a sphere centered at origin with a preset radius that depends on the Signal-to-Noise Ratio(SNR)value.The precoding matrix and passive beamforming vectors are optimized alternately by considering both phase shift keying and quadrature amplitude modulation signaling.It is worth emphasizing that GRSM-RSLP is a universal solution,also applicable to systems without IRS,although it performs better in IRS-assisted systems.We finally conduct extensive simulations to prove the superiority of GRSM-RSLP over GRSM-ZF and GRSM-SLP.Simulation results show that the performance of GRSM-RSLP is significantly influenced by the number of unintended antennas,and the larger the number,the better its performance.In the best-case scenario,GRSM-RSLP can achieve SNR gains of up to 10.5 dB and 12.5 dB over GRSM-SLP and GRSM-ZF,respectively. 展开更多

Optical solitons,as self-sustaining waveforms in a nonlinear medium where dispersion and nonlinear effects are balanced,have key applications in ultrafast laser systems and optical communications.Physics-informed neural networks(PINN)provide a new way to solve the nonlinear Schrodinger equation describing the soliton evolution by fusing data-driven and physical constraints.However,the grid point sampling strategy of traditional PINN suffers from high computational complexity and unstable gradient flow,which makes it difficult to capture the physical details efficiently.In this paper,we propose a residual-based adaptive multi-distribution(RAMD)sampling method to optimize the PINN training process by dynamically constructing a multi-modal loss distribution.With a 50%reduction in the number of grid points,RAMD significantly reduces the relative error of PINN and,in particular,optimizes the solution error of the(2+1)Ginzburg–Landau equation from 4.55%to 1.98%.RAMD breaks through the lack of physical constraints in the purely data-driven model by the innovative combination of multi-modal distribution modeling and autonomous sampling control for the design of all-optical communication devices.RAMD provides a high-precision numerical simulation tool for the design of all-optical communication devices,optimization of nonlinear laser devices,and other studies. 展开更多

Brain age is an effective biomarker for diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease(AD).Aimed at the issue that the existing brain age detection methods are inconsistent with the biological hypothesis that AD is the accelerated aging of the brain,a mutual information—support vector regression(MI-SVR)brain age prediction model is proposed.First,the age deviation is introduced according to the biological hypothesis of AD.Second,fitness function is designed based on mutual information criterion.Third,support vector regression and fitness function are used to obtain the predicted brain age and fitness value of the subjects,respectively.The optimal age deviation is obtained by maximizing the fitness value.Finally,the proposed method is compared with some existing brain age detection methods.Experimental results show that the brain age obtained by the proposed method has better separability,can better reflect the accelerated aging of AD,and is more helpful for improving the diagnostic accuracy of AD. 展开更多

This paper presents a 4-level pulse amplitude modulation(PAM-4)distributed feedback(DFB)laser driver.The driver adopts a digital slicing architecture to achieve high linearity by adjusting the weights of three thermometer-coded main paths.An efficient-biased output stage structure is proposed to reduce power consumption while avoiding the degradation of out-put node bandwidth typically induced by parasitic capacitance in high-current bias path.A two-tap linear and nonlinear feed-for-ward equalizer(FFE)is implemented in the digital domain to extend bandwidth limitations and compensate for the dynamic nonlinearity of the DFB laser.The nonlinear FFE is realized at the cost of lower power consumption and smaller area by utiliz-ing the simultaneity of low-speed parallel data.The chip is fabricated in 28 nm CMOS process.Measurement results indicate that,with a laser bias current of 40 mA,a modulation current of 20 mApp,and an operating rate of 32 Gb/s PAM-4,the overall power consumption of the chip is 372 mW,corresponding to an energy efficiency of 11.6 pJ/b. 展开更多

Optically transparent microwave absorbers and multi-band stealth have extensive potential applications in military defense and wireless communication fields, and thus have attracted considerable attention. So far,most related work is based on inorganic transparent conductive metasurfaces. In this paper, we proposed and experimentally demonstrated a flexible, broadband and optically transparent microwave absorber using an organic metasurface. The metasurface absorber is composed of a sandwich structure, in which electric resonances and magnetic resonances are induced resulting in broadband absorption. A spraying process was developed to prepare this metasurface absorber. Both simulations and experiment show that this metasurface has broadband microwave absorption and good optical transparency. We further found that by using a multi-layer structure, visible, radar,and infrared stealth(multi-band stealth) can be achieved simultaneously. Recently, Bi_(4)Br_(4) is proved to be a member of topological insulators and is expected to be a promising candidate for ultrafast photonic device. However, experimental studies on the nonlinear optical properties of Bi_(4)Br_(4) are limited, and its broadband absorption capabilities have not been validated. This study presents the first preparation of Bi_(4)Br_(4) samples using the chemical vapor transport method, resulting in a saturable absorber(SA) with a high modulation depth(46.23%) and low non-saturable loss(6.5%). The optical nonlinearity ranks among the best in similar studies. Additionally, this work applies Bi_(4)Br_(4)-SA for the first time in 1-μm fiber laser, developing a ring-cavity mode-locked fiber laser with a central wavelength of 1029.79 nm, a pulse duration of 442 fs, and a maximum output power of 90.83 m W. And a linear-cavity mode-locked fiber laser with a central wavelength of 1031.24 nm, a pulse duration of 511 fs, and a maximum output power of 92.81 m W is constructed. It is worth noting that the optical-to-optical conversion efficiency has reached about 11.54% and 33.58%.This study verifies Bi_(4)Br_(4)-SA's modulation effectiveness for 1-μm pulse lasers and provides a powerful reference for the design of high-efficiency fiber lasers. 展开更多

Two-dimensional(2D)transition-metal dichalcogenide(TMD)monolayers based on become a promising platform to study photonics and optoelectronics.Electrically controlling the excitonic properties of TMD monolayers can be realized in different devices.In this work,we realize the strong coupling between the excitons of WS_(2)monolayers and a photonic cavity mode in a liquid crystal microcavity.The formed exciton polaritons can be electrically tuned by applying voltage to the microcavity.Our work offers a way to study exciton-polariton manipulation based on TMD monolayers by electrical methods at room temperature. 展开更多

By combining a concave-convex multi-pass cavity with solid-state nonlinear media for spectral broadening and a post-compression grating setup,we generated femtosecond pulses with high peak power density.Compared to the other traditional pulse compression technologies,the configuration is very compact with large tolerance for beam direction and spot size.The pulses with an average power of 80 W,a pulse width of 10.7 ps,and a repetition rate of 500 kHz are compressed to 842 fs with the configuration,and the compressed pulse duration approaches the Fourier transform limited pulse duration of 707 fs. 展开更多
