A viscoplastic self-consistent analysis of tensile anisotropy and tension-compression asymmetry in rare-earth magnesium alloy

The anisotropy and tension-compression asymmetry of rare-earth magnesium(Mg-RE) alloys have attracted significant attention.In this study,the room-temperature tensile anisotropy and tensioncompression asymmetry of the extruded Mg-8.5Gd-4.5Y-0.8Zn-0.4Zr alloy were investigated utilizing techniques such as optical microscopy(OM),electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD),and viscoplastic self-consistent(VPSC) modeling.Among the tensile samples,the TO sample(with axis parallel to extrusion direction) exhibits the greatest tensile yield strength(TYS) of 270 MPa and ultimate tensile strength(UTS) of 336 MPa,the T45 sample(with axis inclined at a 45° angle to extrusion direction) and T90 sample(with axis perpendicular to extrusion direction) exhibit lower TYS and UTS.The CO sample shows a slightly greater compressive yield strength(CYS) of 290 MPa.The ratio of TYS/CYS is approximately 1.07.This study significantly adjusts the VPSC hardening parameters through the Schmid factor of deformation mechanisms in Mg-RE alloy,particularly increasing the τ0(critical resolved shear stress,CRSS) and τ1values for basalslip and {10-12} twinning.The ratios of CRSS for other deformation mechanisms to basalslip are approximately as follows:CRSSTwin/CRSSBas=2,CRSSpri/CRSSBas≈2.7and CRSSPyr/CRSSBas≈3.3,while these ratios in traditional alloys are generally higher.The stress-strain curves and pole figures obtained from the modified VPSC model demonstrate excellent agreement with experimental results.According to the VPSC simulation results,the primary factor contributing to tensile anisotropy is the disparity in the activation levels of slip systems.The inclusion of rare-earth elements mitigates the tension-compression asymmetry by reducing the difference of CRSS between different deformation mechanisms. 展开更多

A mass transfer model for devolatilization process of highly viscous media in rotating packed bed(RPB) was developed based on penetration theory and mass conservation.Before establishing the model,some mass transfer experiments of thin film were conducted in a designed diffusion cell including vacuum and feeding system. In this study,acetone was used as the volatile organic compound(VOC) and syrup as the highly viscous media.The thickness of thin film was changed by using different liquid distributor.It was found that bubbling played an important role in the devolatilization.The correlation of diffusion coefficient of acetone in highly viscous dilute solution was proposed.The relative error between predicted and experimental data was within the range of ± 30% for diffusion coefficient of acetone in syrup.A comparison of experimental data of RPB with model indicated that the relative error was within ± 30% for efficiency of acetone removal. 展开更多

Several catalysts comprising Pt supported on octahedral Fe3O4(Pt/Fe3O4) were prepared by a facile method involving co-precipitation followed by thermal treatment at different temperatures. A variety of characterization results revealed that this preparation process afforded highly crystalline octahedral Fe3O4 with a uniform distribution of Pt nanoparticles on its surface. The thermal-treatment temperature significantly influenced the redox properties of the Pt/Fe3O4 catalysts. All the Pt/Fe3O4 catalysts were found to be catalytically active and stable for the oxidation of low-concentration formaldehyde(HCHO) with oxygen. The catalyst prepared by thermal treatment at 80 °C(labelled Pt/Fe3O4-80) exhibited the highest catalytic activity, efficiently converting HCHO to CO2 and H2 O under ambient temperature and moisture conditions. The excellent performance of Pt/Fe3O4-80 was mainly attributed to beneficial interactions between the Pt and Fe species that result in the formation a higher density of active interface sites(e.g., Pt-O-FeO x and Pt-OH-FeO x). The introduction of water vapor improves the catalytic activity of the Pt/Fe3O4 catalysts as it participates in a water-assisted dissociation process. 展开更多

The modelling and experimental investigation of a thermally coupled humidification-dehumidification desalination process using a carbon-filled-polypropylene shell-tube column are presented. A heat/mass transfer model is established to study the correlation among productivity, thermal efficiency, physicochemical parameters (gas/liquid phase temperature, heat/mass transfer coefficient, Reynolds number etc.), and operating conditions (the temperature of feed water, the flow rates of external steam, feed water, and carrier air); at the same time, the effects of operating conditions on the productivity and thermal eficiency of the column are investigated both theoretically and experimentally, which indicate that the optimum flow rates of external steam, feed water, and carder gas are 0.18, 60, and 10kg.h^-l, respectively, and the higher the feed water temperature (≤95℃) is, the greater the productivity and the thermal efficiency will be. Furthermore, performance comparison with the previous study shows that the condensate productivity of this carbon-filled-plastic column is not lower than that of the copper column, which demonstrates the practicability and feasibility of applying such a plastic column to the humidification-dehumidification desalination process. 展开更多

The effects of feed temperature and pH value on the removal of aqueous phenol wastewater by vacuum membrane distillation process are studied by experiments employing micro porous membranes of poly vinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and ploy tetrafluoro ethylene (PTFE) with nominal average pore sizes 0.22 mm and 0.20 mm, respectively. It is found that the optimal feed temperature for PVDF membrane is 50 ℃; and for PTFE membrane, 60 ℃. The pH value of the feed has little influence on the membrane fluxes and ion rejection ratios, while it influenced considerably on the selectivity. Increase of pH value of the feed is conducive to the increase of selectivity. In the same experimental conditions, PTFE membrane shows better separation performance than PVDF membrane does. 展开更多

Petroleum coke was thermally treated on a fixed bed reactor in a temperature range of 1173-1673 K. The changes of the elemental composition and crystalline structure of petroleum coke, with heat treatments as well as the gasification reactivity of the heat-treated petroleum cokes were investigated. The results showed that the petroleum coke was carbonized and grapbitized to a higher degree with increasing heating temperature, while the gasification reactivity decreased. The treatment at temperatures of 1173 and 1473 K significantly enlarged the specific surface area and the pore volume of petroleum coke. Both the specific surface area and the pore volume decreased at 1673 K. An empirical normal distribution function model (NDFM) was found to fit the gasification rates of petroleum coke well. The correlation coefficient of petroleum coke by normal distribution function model at different heat treatment temperatures is between 0.93 and 0.95. 展开更多

Wastewater containing high concentrations of phenol and sodium sulfate is generated in sebacic acid (SA) industry. Castor oil acid, a raw material for producing SA, can be used to extract phenol from wastewater in order to reduce the amount of phenol used in the process and discharge of phenol. The results show that the extrac- tion mechanism is that hydroxyl group of phenol is linked to carboxyl group of castor oil acid by hydrogen bond. The extraction process approaches equilibrium in 30 min. Extraction ratio increases with the increase of sodium sulfate and castor oil acid, and decreases as phenol increases. When the oil-water ratio is 1 : 3, the optimal distribu- tion coefficient of 40 is obtained. Phenol saturation concentration in castor oil acid is 1.03 mol.L-1 after extraction for 4 times. The equilibrium constant (Kex) at 25℃ is 8.41 and the endothermic enthalpy (AH) is 1.513 kJ.mo1-1. The Gibbs free energy (AG) is -5.277 kJ. tool-1 and the value of AS is calculated to be 22.3 J. mo1-1. K-1. 展开更多

The effect of cryogenic and heating treatment on the solution properties of rigid polymer nitrocellulose(NC)indilute tetrahydrofuran solution were studied with a sealed viscometer and a size exclusion chromatograph(SEC),respectively.The experimental results show that the relative viscosity of NC solution decreases after repeated freezing-thawing treatment.The decreased viscosity value of NC could not be restored but decreased further after the solution beingre-heated.The experimental results of SEC are fully consistent with that of viscosity measurements.It is believed that theeffect of two treatments on NC solution both causes the apparent hydrodynamic volume to decrease.But they are assumed tobe ascribed to different mechanisms. 展开更多

Comparing with traditional techniques, these special techniques are an efficient and energy saving technology. Vapor permeation can be applied to recovery of organic solvents from exhaust streams. Membrane contactor could be used for removing or recovering VOCs from air or wastewater. Pervaporation and vapor permeation are viable methods for removing VOCs from wastewater to yield a VOC concentrate which could either be destroyed by conventional means, or be recycled for reuse. 展开更多

Titanium silicalite-1(TS-1)films were synthesized on stainless steel plate,glass slide and monolith supports via an in-situ hydrothermal method.Characterization data showed that the formation of TS-1 films was easier on the porous flat support with rough surface such as monolith than on the smooth non-porous supports like glass slide and stainless steel plate.The film on the monolith had the highest uniformity and smallest size of crystals.The catalytic property of monolithsupported film was tested for epoxidation of allyl chloride(ACH)by H2O2in a fixed bed reactor.Under the condition of a methanol(solvent)/ACH(90% )/H2O2(30% )ratio of 12:1:1,a LHSV of 1.35 h-1and a temperature of 318 K,the conversion of allyl chloride and the selectivity to epichlorohydrin reached 79% and 51% ,respectively. 展开更多

Sulfur dioxide is one of the main causes of air pollution such as acid rain and photochemical smog,and its pollution control and resource utilization become an important research direction of air pollution control,The active component La-Ce-O_(x) is loaded on SiO_(2),γ-Al_(2)O_(3),TiO_(2) and ZrO_(2),and the La-Ce-Ox@ZrO_(2)exhibits the best catalytic activity.By adjusting the loading amount of La-Ce-O_(x),La-Ce-Ox@ZrO_(2) with different mass fractions was prepared.The results show that the activity of 15%La-Ce-Ox@ZrO_(2)catalyst is the best.The SO_(2)conversion is 100%,and the S yield and S selectivity are more than 96% at 350℃.According to the analysis results of H_(2)-TPR,CO_(2)-TPD and NH_(3)-TPD,ZrO_(2) as a support not only reduces the acidity of the catalyst,but also improves the weak alkaline sites of the catalyst,which is conducive to the adsorption and activation of SO2molecules at low temperature.The incorporation of La and Ce increases the oxygen concentration adsorbed on the catalyst.The strong interaction between the support ZrO_(2) and the active component La-Ce-Oxis conducive to the electron transfer between the active component and the support,and improves the activity of the catalyst.For the 15%La-Ce-O_(x)@ZrO_(2),the main reaction intermediates are weakly adsorbed SO_(2)(SO_(3)^(2-)),bicoordinated CO_(3)^(2-),monodentate carbonate and CO in the gas phase.Therefore,the catalytic reaction follows both L-H and E-R mechanisms. 展开更多

Adsorption properties of dibenzothiophene (DBT) on a CNT (carbon nanotube) support as well as on CoMoS/CNT and CoMoO/CNT catalysts have been studied. Consecutive desorption of adsorbates was measured by TGA. The commonly used carriers AC (activated carbon), γ-Al_2O_3, and their supported catalysts (CoMoO/AC, CoMoS/AC, CoMoO/γ-Al_2O_3, CoMoS/γ-Al_2O_3)were also subjected to analysis for comparison. The acidic properties of the samples were characterized using the NH_3-TPD technique. Correlation between the adsorption of DBT and the acidic properties of the catalysts has been established. It was found that the Co-Mo catalysts in the sulfide state adsorbed much more DBT molecules than the corresponding Co-Mo catalysts in the oxide state. The CoMoS/CNT catalyst exhibited very high HDS activity and selectivity, as compared with the CoMoS/γ-Al)_2O_3 catalysts. Based on the BET data and the high hydrogenolysis/hydrogenation selectivity of the CoMoS/CNT, it was deduced that more than 90% of the DBT molecules adsorbed on the CoMoS/CNT with an end-on mode, and the surface of the CoMoS/CNT catalyst was almost fully covered with DBT molecules. Although the AC support had very high surface area and high loading ability, the AC supported CoMoS catalyst showed lower HDS activity, as compared with the CoMoS/γ-Al_2O_3 catalyst. 展开更多

Crystalline perovskite oxides are regarded as promising electrocatalysts for water electrolysis,particularly for anodic oxygen evolution reactions,owing to their low cost and high intrinsic activity.Perovskite oxides with noncrystalline or amorphous characteristics also exhibit promising electrocatalytic performance toward electrochemical water splitting.In this review,a fundamental understanding of the characteristics and advantages of crystalline,noncrystalline,and amorphous perovskite oxides is presented.Subsequently,recent progress in the development of advanced electrocatalysts for water electrolysis by engineering and breaking the crystallinity of perovskite oxides is reviewed,with a special focus on the underlying structure–activity relationships.Finally,the remaining challenges and unsolved issues are presented,and an outlook is briefly proposed for the future exploration of next-generation water-splitting electrocatalysts based on perovskite oxides. 展开更多

Hydrogel capsules show attractive prospects in drug delivery recently because of high drug loading and sustained release behavior. In this study we reported a simple and convenient route to fabricate poly(acrylic acid)-poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)(PAA-PNIPAm) hydrogel capsules by using hydroxypropylcellulose-poly(acrylic acid)(HPC-PAA) complexes as the templates. The capsules showed a high drug loading(~280% to the weight of capsules) for Doxorubicin hydrochloride. The release of drug from the capsules was responsive to the temperature and p H of the surroundings, showing a low-rate but sustained release behavior favorable for low-toxic and long-term therapy. Together with the convenient preparation, high drug loading, dual responsivity as well as the sustained release feature, it is implied that this polymeric hydrogel capsule might be a promising candidate for new drug carriers. 展开更多

Liquid phase axial mixing was measured with the tracer technique in a packed column with inner diameter of 0.15m, in which the structured packing, Mellapak 350Y, was installed. Tap water as the liquid phase flowed down through the column and stagnant gas was at elevated pressure ranging from atmospheric to 2.0MPa. The model parameters of Bo and 9 were estimated with the least square method in the time domain. As liquid flow rate was increased, the liquid axial mixing decreased. Under our experimental conditions, the effect of pressure on Bo number on single liquid phase was negligible, and eddy diffusion was believed to be the primary cause of axial mixing in liquid phase. 展开更多
