Effect of catalyst ink preparation on formate production from CO_(2)electroreduction using Sn as electrocatalyst

Electrochemical CO_(2) reduction is a sustainable method for producing fuels and chemicals using renewable energy sources.Sn is a widely employed catalyst for formate production,with its performance closely influenced by the catalyst ink formulations and reac-tion conditions.The present study explores the influence of catalyst loading,current density,and binder choice on Sn-based CO_(2) reduc-tion systems.Decreasing catalyst loading from 10 to 1.685 mg·cm^(-2) and increasing current density in highly concentrated bicarbonate solutions significantly enhances formate selectivity,achieving 88%faradaic efficiency(FE)at a current density of−30 mA·cm^(-2) with a cathodic potential of−1.22 V vs.reversible hydrogen electrode(RHE)and a catalyst loading of 1.685 mg·cm^(-2).This low-loading strategy not only reduces catalyst costs but also enhances surface utilization and suppresses the hydrogen evolution reaction.Nafion enhances formate production when applied as a surface coating rather than pre-mixed in the ink,as evidenced by improved faradaic efficiency and lower cathodic potentials.However,this performance still does not match that of binder-free systems because Sn-based catalysts intrinsic-ally exhibit high catalytic activity,making the binder contribution less significant.Although modifying the electrode surface with binders leads to blocked active sites and increased resistance,polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF)remains promising because of its stability,strength,and conductivity,achieving up to 72%FE to formate at−30 mA·cm^(-2) and−1.66 V vs.RHE.The findings of this research reveal method-ologies for optimizing the catalyst ink formulations and binder utilization to enhance the conversion of CO_(2) to formate,thereby offering crucial insights for the development of a cost-efficient catalyst for high-current-density operations. 展开更多

To develop a melting-based larger-scale fabrication process for oxide dispersion strengthened(ODS)steel,this study proposed a method of zone melting with built-in precursor powder(ZMPP),followed by hot forging and aging treatments.A 50 kg ingot was successfully prepared,highlighting the scalability of this innovative process.Microstructural analysis revealed a predominantly lath martensite matrix with a small amount of ferrite in the hot-forged ODS steel,without oxide particle aggregation.Aging at 750℃ resulted in the formation of sub-micron-sized Cr_(23)C_(6) particles at grain boundaries and martensitic lath interfaces,accompanied by a high-density(7.64×1023 m^(-3))nano-scale(~6 nm)Y-Si-O complex oxides after 25 h.Additionally,the hot-forged sample exhibited a high yield strength(871 MPa)but limited ductility(5.0%).Aging treatments led to an increase in ductility but a decrease in yield strength.Notably,prolonged aging maintained the strength level of steels while enhancing ductility,with a 23.3% total elongation observed after 25 h.The novel ZMPP method,preparing high-quality ODS steels with uniform microstructure and good mechanical properties,provided a new avenue for large-scale production of ODS steels. 展开更多

With the increasing demand on higher strip quality, the profile and flatness of hot rolling strips have become subjects of concern, particularly for compact strip product(CSP) hot strip mills. Based on the roll contour, control model, and rolling process, a comprehensive shape control technology is proposed and applied to CSP hot strip mill of Lianyuan steel, which includes optimization and design of the work roll contour and varying contact back-up roll(VCR) plus backup roll contour, analysis of the flatness feedback control model, as well as improvement of the rolling process control system. The application of the technology has significantly improved the shape control performance. The roll wear is improved and the general roll consumption of the finishing mill is reduced by 29.86%.The percentages that satisfy the control target ranges of the average strip flatness and crown are increased by approximately 15.40%and 14.82%, respectively. The rejection rate of grade Q235 due to shape quality problem is reduced monthly by 39.69%, which creates significant economic benefits for the plant. 展开更多

In order to investigate the modification behavior and regularity of inclusions in X80 pipeline steel by Mg-treatment, the comparative industrial experiments of Mg-treatment and Ca-treatment in X80 pipeline steel were carried out. Mg and Ca were added to the steel in the form of cored wire after RH (Ruhrstahl-Hereaeus vacuum degassing) process. After adding Ca-containing cored wire, the inclusions were transformed into CaO–Al_(2)O_(3) in the steel. With the progress of smelting, the cleanliness of molten steel became worse, and the equivalent diameter of inclusions was at a higher level. Mg-treatment had a good effect on the modification of inclusions. After Mg-containing cored wire was added to the steel, Al_(2)O_(3) and CaO–Al_(2)O_(3) in the steel were transformed into MgO, MgO·Al_(2)O_(3), and CaO–MgO–Al_(2)O_(3) inclusions, which were basically spherical. The initial precipitated MgO became the core of other inclusions in the steel, which promotes the precipitation of MgO·Al_(2)O_(3). After Mg-treatment, almost no unmodified calcium aluminate inclusions existed in the hot rolled plate, and the cleanliness of the steel was improved. The effect of Ca and Mg on the transformation of inclusions in pipeline steel was studied by thermodynamic calculation, the result of which is consistent with the experimental results. 展开更多

High-speed solar-blind short wavelength ultraviolet radiation detectors based onκ(ε)-Ga_(2)O_(3)layers with Pt contacts were demonstrated and their properties were studied in detail.Theκ(ε)-Ga_(2)O_(3)layers were deposited by the halide vapor phase epitaxy on patterned GaN templates with sapphire substrates.The spectral dependencies of the photoelectric properties of struc-tures were analyzed in the wavelength interval 200-370 nm.The maximum photo to dark current ratio,responsivity,detectiv-ity and external quantum efficiency of structures were determined as:180.86 arb.un.,3.57 A/W,1.78×10^(12) Hz^(0.5)∙cm·W^(-1) and 2193.6%,respectively,at a wavelength of 200 nm and an applied voltage of 1 V.The enhancement of the photoresponse was caused by the decrease in the Schottky barrier at the Pt/κ(ε)-Ga_(2)O_(3)interface under ultraviolet exposure.The detectors demon-strated could functionalize in self-powered mode due to built-in electric field at the Pt/κ(ε)-Ga_(2)O_(3)interface.The responsivity and external quantum efficiency of the structures at a wavelength of 254 nm and zero applied voltage were 0.9 mA/W and 0.46%,respectively.The rise and decay times in self-powered mode did not exceed 100 ms. 展开更多

Hot deformation of sintered billets by powder metallurgy(PM)is an effective preparation technique for titanium alloys,which is more significant for high-alloying alloys.In this study,Ti–6.5Al–2Zr–Mo–V(TA15)titanium alloy plates were prepared by cold press-ing sintering combined with high-temperature hot rolling.The microstructure and mechanical properties under different process paramet-ers were investigated.Optical microscope,electron backscatter diffraction,and others were applied to characterize the microstructure evolution and mechanical properties strengthening mechanism.The results showed that the chemical compositions were uniformly dif-fused without segregation during sintering,and the closing of the matrix craters was accelerated by increasing the sintering temperature.The block was hot rolled at 1200℃ with an 80%reduction under only two passes without annealing.The strength and elongation of the plate at 20–25℃ after solution and aging were 1247 MPa and 14.0%,respectively,which were increased by 24.5%and 40.0%,respect-ively,compared with the as-sintered alloy at 1300℃.The microstructure was significantly refined by continuous dynamic recrystalliza-tion,which was completed by the rotation and dislocation absorption of the substructure surrounded by low-angle grain boundaries.After hot rolling combined with heat treatment,the strength and plasticity of PM-TA15 were significantly improved,which resulted from the dense,uniform,and fine recrystallization structure and the synergistic effect of multiple slip systems. 展开更多

Detectors were developed for detecting irradiation in the short-wavelength ultraviolet(UVC)interval using high-quality single-crystallineα-Ga_(2)O_(3) films with Pt interdigital contacts.The films ofα-Ga_(2)O_(3) were grown on planar sapphire substrates with c-plane orientation using halide vapor phase epitaxy.The spectral dependencies of the photo to dark current ratio,responsivity,external quantum efficiency and detectivity of the structures were investigated in the wavelength interval of 200−370 nm.The maximum of photo to dark current ratio,responsivity,external quantum efficiency,and detectivity of the structures were 1.16×10^(4) arb.un.,30.6 A/W,1.65×10^(4)%,and 6.95×10^(15) Hz^(0.5)·cm/W at a wavelength of 230 nm and an applied voltage of 1 V.The high values of photoelectric properties were due to the internal enhancement of the photoresponse associated with strong hole trapping.Theα-Ga_(2)O_(3) film-based UVC detectors can function in self-powered operation mode due to the built-in electric field at the Pt/α-Ga_(2)O_(3) interfaces.At a wavelength of 254 nm and zero applied voltage,the structures exhibit a responsivity of 0.13 mA/W and an external quantum efficiency of 6.2×10^(−2)%.The UVC detectors based on theα-Ga_(2)O_(3) films demonstrate high-speed performance with a rise time of 18 ms in self-powered mode. 展开更多

This paper studies a strongly convergent inertial forward-backward-forward algorithm for the variational inequality problem in Hilbert spaces.In our convergence analysis,we do not assume the on-line rule of the inertial parameters and the iterates,which have been assumed by several authors whenever a strongly convergent algorithm with an inertial extrapolation step is proposed for a variational inequality problem.Consequently,our proof arguments are different from what is obtainable in the relevant literature.Finally,we give numerical tests to confirm the theoretical analysis and show that our proposed algorithm is superior to related ones in the literature. 展开更多

Selective and Adaptive Incremental Transfer Learning with Multiple Datasets for Machine Fault Diagnosis

The visions of Industry 4.0 and 5.0 have reinforced the industrial environment.They have also made artificial intelligence incorporated as a major facilitator.Diagnosing machine faults has become a solid foundation for automatically recognizing machine failure,and thus timely maintenance can ensure safe operations.Transfer learning is a promising solution that can enhance the machine fault diagnosis model by borrowing pre-trained knowledge from the source model and applying it to the target model,which typically involves two datasets.In response to the availability of multiple datasets,this paper proposes using selective and adaptive incremental transfer learning(SA-ITL),which fuses three algorithms,namely,the hybrid selective algorithm,the transferability enhancement algorithm,and the incremental transfer learning algorithm.It is a selective algorithm that enables selecting and ordering appropriate datasets for transfer learning and selecting useful knowledge to avoid negative transfer.The algorithm also adaptively adjusts the portion of training data to balance the learning rate and training time.The proposed algorithm is evaluated and analyzed using ten benchmark datasets.Compared with other algorithms from existing works,SA-ITL improves the accuracy of all datasets.Ablation studies present the accuracy enhancements of the SA-ITL,including the hybrid selective algorithm(1.22%-3.82%),transferability enhancement algorithm(1.91%-4.15%),and incremental transfer learning algorithm(0.605%-2.68%).These also show the benefits of enhancing the target model with heterogeneous image datasets that widen the range of domain selection between source and target domains. 展开更多

The high-temperature dissolution behavior of primary carbides in samples taken from GCr15 continuous-casting bloom was observed in-situ by confocal laser scanning microscopy.Equations were fitted to the dissolution kinetics of primary carbides during either heating or soaking.Dissolution of carbides proceeded in three stages(fast→slow→faster)as either temperature or holding time was increased.During the heating process and during the first and third stages of the soaking process,the original size of the carbides determined the steepness of the slope,but during the middle(“slow”)stage of the soaking process,the slope remained zero.The initial size of the carbides varied greatly,but their final dissolution temperature fell within the narrow range of 1210-1235℃,and the holding time remained within 50 min.Fractal analysis was used to study the morphological characteristics of small and medium-sized carbides during the dissolution process.According to changes in the fractal dimension before and after soaking,the carbides tended to evolve towards a more regular morphology. 展开更多

On Mason Reset Based control and the scale of integration

Mason Reset(MR),a groundbreaking invention by Clesson E.Mason in 1930 that later became a part of“the universal approach to process control instrumentation”,is revisited in this paper and is shown to consists of three actions:fast(errorcorrection),medium(negative feedback for expanded proportional band)and slow(reset for zero steady-state error).The focus of the paper is on the reset action,generated from a positive feedback loop,and its underlying principles with profound implications to our understanding and practice of automatic control,both basic and advanced.For example,we note that reset control and integral control,contrary to common belief,differ fundamentally in design principle and in practicality.Such difference comes to a head in the event of integrator windup:while reset windup is a problem of actuator saturation,the integrator windup is a runaway situation due to controller instability.In fact,there is no advantage gained in replacing MR with an integrator.In other words,one should not integrate the error directly as in standard PID,since doing so makes the closed-loop system internally unstable.With MR-based control formulated in this paper,there is no such threat of instability and,therefore,no need for any anti-windup mechanisms.Furthermore,the integral control is made scalable in this framework as a tradeoff between the steady-state accuracy and the controller stability.This leads to a novel MR-based control design,scalable in gain and in time to accommodate various process characteristics and design specifications.Simple in construction and transparent in principle,this MR-based control,as a basic framework of design,is readily deployable in scale. 展开更多

A novel Nb–V–Ce multi-microalloyed low-alloy cast steel for offshore platform nodes was investigated to achieve the properties similar to X80 pipeline steel,including high yield strength and low-temperature impact energy.The experimental results demonstrate that the addition of elements such as Nb,V and Ce can markedly improve the strength of the low-alloy cast steel.Maintaining a constant level of elements such as Nb,V and Ce,while reducing the content of Si to 0.28 wt.%,leads to substantial enhancements in impact energy at−40℃,meeting the mechanical properties criteria of X80 pipeline steel.The excellent mechanical properties of the multi-microalloyed low-alloy cast steel result from the reason that the multi-addition of microalloying elements refines the grains and facilitates the formation of nanoprecipitates like NbC.Moreover,decreasing Si content can enhance the recovery of martensitic laths in cast steel during the tempering process,reducing stress from dislocation movement and improving plasticity. 展开更多

Meniscus injuries are widespread and the available treatments do not offer enough healing potential.Here,we provide critical support for using pigs as a biological model for meniscal degeneration and the development of cutting-edge therapies in orthopedics.We present a single-cell transcriptome atlas of the meniscus,consisting of cell clusters corresponding to four major cell types:chondrocytes,endothelial cells,smooth muscle cells,and immune cells.Five distinct chondrocyte subclusters(CH0–CH4)were annotated,of which only one was widespread in both the red and white zones,indicating a major difference in the cellular makeup of the zones.Subclusters distinct to the white zone appear responsible for cartilage-specific matrix deposition and protection against adverse microenvironmental factors,while those in the red zone exhibit characteristics of mesenchymal stem cells and are more likely to proliferate and migrate.Additionally,they induce remodeling actions in other chondrocyte subclusters and promote the proliferation and maturation of endothelial cells,inducing healing and vascularization processes.Considering that they have substantial remodeling capabilities,these subclusters should be of great interest for tissue engineering studies.We also show that the cellular makeup of the pig meniscus is comparable to that of humans,which supports the use of pigs as a model in orthopedic therapy development. 展开更多

The anodic electrochemical ozone production(EOP)and the cathodic three-electron oxygen reduction reaction(3e^(-)ORR)are effective processes for generating active oxygen species(ROS).However,the activation of ozone(O_(3))by hydroxyl radical(OH)to form ROS poses significant challenges.The micelle balllike bimetallic La-Nb oxides(LNOx)have been developed as a bifunctional electrocatalyst for both the EOP and 3e^(-)ORR reactions.The LNO20 demonstrated a 9.8%of Faradaic efficiency(FE)in O_(3)production and a transfer number of 2.8 electrons in the 3e^(-)ORR.Theoretical calculations support the notion that the five-membered ring mechanism in LNO20 facilitates O_(3)production.Additionally,the incorporation of La provides active sites that enhance the activation of hydrogen peroxide(^(*)H_(2)O_(2))and the generation of OH.This innovative approach synergistically integrates EOP and 3e^(-)ORR,enhancing the activation of O_(3)to produce ROS,demonstrating exceptional efficacy in the degradation of organic pollutants and antimicrobial activity.The study paves the way for designing advanced electrocatalysts for EOP and 3e^(-)ORR and offers insights into utilizing electrochemical method to support other antibacterial strategies. 展开更多

Cleanliness control of advanced steels is of vital importance for quality control of the products.In order to understand and control the inclusion removal during refining process in molten steel,its motion behaviors at the multiple steel/gas/slag interfaces have attracted the attention much of metallurgical community.The recent development of the agglomeration of non-metallic inclusions at the steel/Ar and steel/slag interfaces has been summarized,and both the experimental as well as theoretical works have been surveyed.In terms of in situ observation of high-temperature interfacial phenomena in the molten steel,researchers utilized high-temperature confocal laser scanning microscopy to observe the movement of more types of inclusions at the interface,i.e.,the investigated inclusion is no longer limited to Al_(2)O_(3)-based inclusions but moves forward to rare earth oxides,MgO-based oxides,etc.In terms of theoretical models,especially the model of inclusions at the steel/slag interface,the recent development has overcome the limitations of the assumptions of Kralchevsky-Paunov model and verified the possible errors caused by the model assumptions by combining the water model and the physical model.Last but not least,the future work in this topic has been suggested,which could be in combination of thermal physical properties of steels and slag,as well as utilize the artificial intelligence-based methodology to implement a comprehensive inclusion motion behaviors during a comprehensive metallurgical process. 展开更多

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is the sixth most common cancer and third leading cause of cancer-related death in the world. The Barcelona clinic liver cancer classification is the current standard classification system for the clinical management of patients with HCC and suggests that patients with intermediate-stage HCC benefit from transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE). Interventional treatments such as TACE, balloon-occluded TACE, drug-eluting bead embolization, radioembolization, and combined therapies including TACE and radiofrequency ablation, continue to evolve, resulting in improved patient prognosis. However, patients with advanced-stage HCC typically receive only chemotherapy with sorafenib, a multi-kinase inhibitor, or palliative and conservative therapy. Most patients receive palliative or conservative therapy only, and approximately 50% of patients with HCC are candidatesfor systemic therapy. However, these patients require therapy that is more effective than sorafenib or conservative treatment. Several researchers try to perform more effective therapies, such as combined therapies(TACE with radiotherapy and sorafenib with TACE), modified TACE for HCC with arterioportal or arteriohepatic vein shunts, TACE based on hepatic hemodynamics, and isolated hepatic perfusion. This review summarizes the published data and data on important ongoing studies concerning interventional treatments for unresectable HCC and discusses the technical improvements in these interventions, particularly for advanced-stage HCC. 展开更多

Longitudinal cracks are common defects of continuous casting slabs and may lead to serious quality accidents. Image capturing and recognition of hot slabs is an effective way for on-line detection of cracks, and recognition of cracks is essential because the surface of hot slabs is very complicated. In order to detect the surface longitudinal cracks of the slabs, a new feature extraction method based on Curvelet transform and kernel locality preserving projections (KLPP) is proposed. First, sample images are decomposed into three levels by Curvelet transform. Second, Fourier transform is applied to all sub-band images and the Fourier amplitude spectrum of each sub-band is computed to get features with translational invariance. Third, five kinds of statistical features of the Fourier amplitude spectrum are computed and combined in different forms. Then, KLPP is employed for dimensionality reduction of the obtained 62 types of high-dimensional combined features. Finally, a support vector machine (SVM) is used for sample set classification. Experiments with samples from a real production line of continuous casting slabs show that the algorithm is effective to detect longitudinal cracks, and the classification rate is 91.89%. 展开更多

With the rapid deployments of the active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) as a bonafide industrial technology in the background, this paper summarizes some recent results in the analysis of linear ADRC and offers explanations in the frequency response language with which practicing engineers are familiar. Critical to this endeavor is the concept of bandwidth, which has been used in a more general sense. It is this concept that can serve as the link between the otherwise opaque state space formulation of the ADRC and the command design considerations and concerns shared by practicing engineers. The remarkable characteristics of a simple linear ADRC was first shown in the frequency domain, followed by the corresponding analysis in time domain, where the relationship between the tracking error and the ADRC bandwidth is established. It is shown that such insight is only possible by using the method of solving linear differential equations, instead of the more traditional techniques such as the Lyapunov methods, which tend to be more conservative and difficult to grasp by engineers. The insight obtained from such analysis is further demonstrated in the simulation validation. 展开更多

Distributions of electromagnetic fields and induced forced flow inside a metal melt are crucial to understand the grain refinement of the metal driven by pulsed magneto-oscillation(PMO).In the present study,PMO-induced electromagnetic fields and forced flow in Ga-20 wt%In-12 wt%Sn liquid metal have been systematically investigated by performing numerical simulations and corresponding experimental measurements.The numerical simulations have been confirmed by magnetic and melt flow measurements.According to the simulated distribution of electromagnetic fields under the application of PMO,the strongest magnetic field,electric eddy current and Lorentz force with inward radial direction inside the melt are concentrated adjacent the sidewall of cylindrical melt at the cross section of middle height of coil.As a result,a global forced flow throughout the whole cylindrical column filled with Ga-20 wt%In-12 wt%Snmelt is initiated with a flow structure of two pair of symmetric vortexring.The PMO-induced electromagnetic fields and forced flow in Al-7 wt%Si melt have been numerically simulated.The contribution of electromagnetic fields and forced flow to the grain refinement of Al-7 wt%Sialloy under the application of PMO is discussed.It indicates that the forced flow may play a key role in the grain size reduction. 展开更多
