Graphene has enormous potential to capture CO_(2)due to its unique properties and cost-effectiveness.However,graphene-based adsorbents have drawbacks of lower CO_(2)adsorption capacity and poor selectivity.This work d...Graphene has enormous potential to capture CO_(2)due to its unique properties and cost-effectiveness.However,graphene-based adsorbents have drawbacks of lower CO_(2)adsorption capacity and poor selectivity.This work demonstrates a one-step rapid and sustainable N_(2)/H_(2)plasma treatment process to prepare graphene-based sorbent material with enhanced CO_(2)adsorption performance.Plasma treatment directly enriches amine species,increases surface area,and improves textural properties.The CO_(2)adsorption capacity increases from 1.6 to 3.3 mmol/g for capturing flue gas,and from 0.14 to 1.3 mmol/g for direct air capture (DAC).Importantly,the electrothermal property of the plasma-modified aerogels has been significantly improved,resulting in faster heating rates and significantly reducing energy consumption compared to conventional external heating for regeneration of sorbents.Modified aerogels display improved selectivity of 42 and 87 after plasma modification for 5 and 10 min,respectively.The plasma-treated aerogels display minimal loss between 17%and 19% in capacity after 40 adsorption/desorption cycles,rendering excellent stability.The N_(2)/H_(2)plasma treatment of adsorbent materials would lower energy expenses and prevent negative effects on the global economy caused by climate change.展开更多
Thecoal-to-liquidcoupledwithcarbon capture,utilization,and storage technology has the potential to reduce CO_(2)emissions,but its carbon footprint and cost assessment are still insufficient.In this paper,coal mining t...Thecoal-to-liquidcoupledwithcarbon capture,utilization,and storage technology has the potential to reduce CO_(2)emissions,but its carbon footprint and cost assessment are still insufficient.In this paper,coal mining to oil production is taken as a life cycle to evaluate the carbon footprint and levelized costs of direct-coal-toliquid and indirect-coal-to-liquid coupled with the carbon capture utilization and storage technology under three scenarios:non capture,process capture,process and public capture throughout the life cycle.The results show that,first,the coupling carbon capture utilization and storage technology can reduce CO_(2)footprint by 28%-57%from 5.91 t CO_(2)/t:oil of direct-coal-to-liquid and 24%-49%from 7.10 t CO_(2)/t:oil of indirect-coal-to-liquid.Next,the levelized cost of direct-coal-to-liquid is 648-1027$/t of oil,whereas that of indirect-coal-to-liquid is 653-1065$/t of oil.When coupled with the carbon capture utilization and storage technology,the levelized cost of direct-coalto-liquid is 285-1364$/t of oil,compared to 1101-9793/t of oil for indirect-coal-to-liquid.Finally,sensitivity analysis shows that CO_(2)transportation distance has the greatest impact on carbon footprint,while coal price and initial investment cost significantly affect the levelized cost ofcoal-to-liquid.展开更多
The utilization of supported amines as adsorbents in direct air capture(DAC)has been demonstrated to be a promising strategy for the reduction of CO_(2)emissions.To improve the performance of amine-based adsorbents,th...The utilization of supported amines as adsorbents in direct air capture(DAC)has been demonstrated to be a promising strategy for the reduction of CO_(2)emissions.To improve the performance of amine-based adsorbents,the incorporation of additives has been widely adopted.In the present study,we conduct a comprehensive comparison of seven additives on tetraethylenepentamine-impregnated mesoporous silica as a representative amine-based adsorbent.The results indicate thatminor molecularweight additiveswith hydroxyl groups show improved adsorption-desorption performance and increase oxidative stability.A proposed mechanism for these improvements is the combined physical and chemical promotion effects of hydroxyl groups.Through a comprehensive review of existing literature,it is found that the effects of additives on amine-based adsorbents are dependent on factors,such as additive type,pristine adsorbent properties,incorporation method,and testing conditions.Based on these findings,it is recommended that future DAC systems prioritize the use of hydroxyl-containing additives,whereas higher CO_(2)concentration and temperature capture may benefit from the incorporation of additives without hydroxyl groups.These conclusions are expected to contribute to the design of efficient adsorbents for CO_(2)capture.展开更多
