It has natural antimicrobial properties and, hygienically, can stand the comparison with other materials such as plastic, glass and steel. In this review, we focused on potential microbe-inhibiting properties of wooden surfaces being used in hygienically important places like health institutes and food industries. This article addresses the questionable properties of untreated wood like hygroscopicity, porosity, roughness and chemical composition, and their relation to the hygienic and antimicrobial nature of this material. The other factors linked to the hygienic properties of wood, such as age, species and type of wood, have also been discussed. Our analysis of literature will create better understanding for acceptance of wood as a safety renewable resource. It also provides an outline for future research considering wood material in critical healthcare or food industries.展开更多

The subjects were randomly divided into the experimental group who participates in the hydrogymnastics training program and the control group who was not involved in the training and remained sedentary. The serum levels of highsensitivity C-reactive protein were determined by immunoturbidimetry using C-reactive protein (CRP), the training protocol consisted of hydrogymnastics sessions 5 times per week during 12 weeks of intervention, executed in a pool of 1.3 meters divided into three phases: a 10-minute warm-up, 30 minutes of aerobic exercise at 50%-60% of maximum heart rate (monitored by heart rate monitor) and a 10-minute cool down. As a statistical method to compare the results between groups of variables pre and post training, the analysis of variance (ANOVA) mixed 2 × 2 (group × measurement) test was done using SPSS version 17. The founds showed significant changes in the level of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, and a greater percentage decrease of hs-CRP (Δ%= -37%, p = 0.001) in the experimental group in relation to the control group. Therefore, it can be inferred that a hydrogymnastics program is effective in reducing the metabolic rate of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein amongst elderly women.展开更多

The objectives were multiple: (i) a better understanding of the adsorption mecha- nisms of these kinds of materials; (ii) the specification and optimization of new processes using these adsorbents; (iii) the modeling of the adsorption of organic pollutants using both the usual and original approaches; (iv) applications of ACFC in industrial processes. The general question was: how can activated carbon fiber cloths and felts be used in air treatment processes for the protection of environment. In order to provide an answer, different approaches were adopted. The materials (ACFC) were characterized in terms of macro structure and internal porosity. Specific studies were performed to get the air flow pattern through the fabrics. Head loss data were generated and modeled as a fi.mction of air velocity. The performances of ACF to remove volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were approached with the adsorption isotherms and breakthrough curves in various operating conditions. Regenera- tion by Joule effect shows a homogenous heating of adsorber modules with rolled or pleated layers. Examples of industrial developments were presented showing an interesting technology for the removal of VOCs, such as dichloromethane, benzene, isopropyl alcohol and toluene, alone or in a complex mixture.展开更多

We made contour maps, plan maps, morphological maps and atectonic grike(cave) maps of some of the forms and their surroundings. We examined the distribution of the depth, length, elongation ratio in case of some depressions, the relation between the depth and the diameter of some depressions, the relationship between depression group directions and mine cut directions, the standard deviation of the direction differences of depression groups and of their depressions. The forms of the mountain related to surface mining can be separated to open and closed. The former are trenches and stairs, the latter are circular, elongated, and complex depressions. The formation of these forms can be related to the balancing movements of the vault over the mountain’s mine. At thin vault, stairs develop by collapses, while at the atectonic fissures of thicker vault, trenches and depressions are formed at the surface. In areas bordered by sinking(subsidence through) and downwardly cohesive faults, depression groups of diverse features are arranged in the marginal bands. Elongated depressions are formed at atectonic blocks bounded by dispersing faults in non-banded distribution. Where there is a superficial deposit, atectonic fissures can also be inherited directly by collapse to the surface and form depressions. They can also form indirectly over atectonic fissures by compaction, subsequent collapse and/or suffosion of the superficial deposit. The results of the study make it possible to analyse the material loss due to mining on the vault if the atectonic structures of the vault are partly or completely covered by superficial deposit.展开更多

It has a high concentration of antioxidant substances, providing health benefits and helping to prevent diseases. The objectives of this work were to characterize an aqueous yerba mate extract by spectrophotometric and chromatographic (HPLC) methods and to study the effect of the freeze-drying process on the polyphenols profile and antioxidant activity, determined by a novel method. An aqueous extract was obtained and lyophilized to obtain a yerba mate powder with antioxidant properties. The extracts showed a high polyphenol content, determined by Folin-Ciocalteau and HPLC, and a high antioxidant activity towards the DPPH· radical and after the recently developed method of photochemiluminescence. A linear correlation was found between Folin-Ciocalteau and DPPH methods for lyophilized samples. HPLC analysis allowed determining antioxidant components like rutin, caffeine and chlorogenic acid. Lyophilization caused a decrease in total polyphenol content and antiradical activity of the extracts and this fact was mainly attributed to changes in the chlorogenic acid related compounds and rutin structures, after their photochemiluminescence data. The photoluminiscent method proves to be an advantageous approach for antioxidant capacity determination.展开更多

The fungus <i>Thecaphora frezii</i> (<i>T. frezii</i>), which belongs to the taxonomic class Ustilaginomycetes, is the causal agent of the disease known as “peanut smut”. The life cycle of this fungus includes three stages, namely teliospores, basidiospores and hyphae. In the hyphae stage, infection occurs in the peanut plant, which requires the involvement of some enzymes secreted by the fungus. These include the Plant Cell Wall-Degrading Enzymes (PCWDEs), which degrade various polysaccharides. This study aimed to identify the presence of transcript for enzymes belonging to the PCWDEs from three stages of <i>T. frezii</i>. For this, total RNA was extracted from the three ontogenetic stages of <i>T. frezii</i>. These samples were analyzed using an RNA-Seq approach and some transcripts were quantified using Real Time PCR. The analysis of the data provided by the RNA-Seq of the three <i>T. frezii</i> stages, it was possible to identify some transcripts that could encode enzymes compatible with polysaccharides degradation that are part of the plant cell wall. In <i>T. frezii</i> transcriptome, 40 deduced proteins would be enzymes with functions of PCWDEs were identified. They were divided into 27 glycoside hydrolases;two polysaccharide lyases;three carbohydrate esterases and eight enzymes with auxiliary activities. In addition, the fungal SNF1 gene was identified whose activity could be affected by high glucose level, and indirectly influence the levels of some PCWDEs. The analysis of the PCWDEs could help to understand part of the fungal infection process and possibly find substances that can control its development.展开更多

The aim of the present work was to study liver abscesses;determine the frequency;describe the clinical and paraclinical aspects, therapeutic and evolutionary modalities;determine the follow-up of treatment in order to assess the cost of treatment in the Reference Health Center of Commune I of Bamako in Mali. This prospective study, involving 30 cases of liver abscess, took place over a period of 24 months from January 2015 to December 2016 in the general surgery department of the Cs Ref of commune I. The liver abscess is very often the consequence of amoebiasis which is rampant in the underprivileged population and it remains topical in surgical practice in Mali. Our hospital frequency was 0.081% with an average age of 34.40 years and extremes of 16 and 61 years;a sex ratio of 2.3 in favor of men. The main clinical signs were fever (56.7%), hepatalgia (73.3%) and hepatomegaly (26.7%). Hepatic collections objectified on abdominal ultrasound were located in the right lobe in 70% of cases and unique in 62%. Amebic serology carried out in 100% was negative in 20%;10% of cases had undergone surgical treatment. The consequences were simple for all our patients. The average cost of care, approximately 100,000 FCFA, was significantly higher than the minimum wage (28,460 FCFA) in Mali.展开更多

Our analysis of literature will create better understanding for acceptance of wood as a safety renewable resource. It also provides an outline for future research considering wood material in critical healthcare or food industries.
文摘The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a hydrogymnastics training program on highsensitivity C-reactive protein in elderly women. Therefore, it can be inferred that a hydrogymnastics program is effective in reducing the metabolic rate of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein amongst elderly women.
文摘A general research program, focusing on activated carbon fiber cloths (ACFC) and felt for environmental protection was performed. Examples of industrial developments were presented showing an interesting technology for the removal of VOCs, such as dichloromethane, benzene, isopropyl alcohol and toluene, alone or in a complex mixture.

文摘Identifying the instability areas provides useful information about the recognition of the vulnerable zones and, thus, helps to potentially decrease the harm to the infrastructure and the hazard conditions in inhabited areas. In this regard, morphometric parameters and tectonic setting are widely employed in mapping, modelling and understanding of instability processes. The present study is aimed to analyse the combined effects of slope morphometry(slope gradient, slope curvature, local relief),of lithology,of drainage density and of tectonic setting on the distribution of landslides. The study area is located in the Mesima Basin that lies in the central part of the Calabria region(southern Italy). The morphometric analysis was carried out by geographic information system(GIS)techniques, whereas the geomorphic attributes were computed by a digital elevation model(DEM).The recognized landslides and faults were digitized and stored in a GIS geo-database that allowed the construction of relative density maps.A total of 1991 landslides and 231 tectonic lineaments were recognized and mapped. The distribution of the collected data suggests that the occurrence of landslides is not random.Indeed, the research highlights as the lithology, the fault density, the slope gradient and the local relief play an important role in determining the landslide occurrence. The used approach is aimed to reinforce the knowledge about the validity of the application of morphometric analysis to the landslide susceptibility. The Mesima Basin is a poorly studied area of the Calabria from a geomorphological viewpoint.Indeed, previous researches focused mainly on geological and on tectonic aspects,as well as on instability phenomena in the Mesima surroundings. Thus, this paper takes a step forward with respect to previous studies because it augments the knowledge about the relationship between faults, morphometric features and the occurrence of landslide.
文摘Surface forms above the mine(ármin mine) of Mount Bocskor(Southern Bakony, Hungary) were examined. The results of the study make it possible to analyse the material loss due to mining on the vault if the atectonic structures of the vault are partly or completely covered by superficial deposit.
文摘Yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis) is an indigenous crop which is highly consumed as an infusion in the South American subtropical forest. The photoluminiscent method proves to be an advantageous approach for antioxidant capacity determination.
文摘Peanuts can be affected by the presence of pathogenic microorganisms. The analysis of the PCWDEs could help to understand part of the fungal infection process and possibly find substances that can control its development.
文摘Liver abscesses correspond to a newly formed cavity created by necrosis of the liver parenchyma induced by the pathogen. The average cost of care, approximately 100,000 FCFA, was significantly higher than the minimum wage (28,460 FCFA) in Mali.
文摘Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus(SARS-CoV)and SARS-CoV-2 are thought to transmit to humans via wild mammals, especially bats. However, evidence for direct bat-to-human transmission is lacking.Involvement of intermediate hosts is considered a reason for SARS-CoV-2 transmission to humans and emergence of outbreak.Large biodiversity is found in tropical territories, such as Brazil. On the similar line, this study aimed to predict potential coronavirus hosts among Brazilian wild mammals based on angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2)sequences using evolutionary bioinformatics.Cougar, maned wolf, and bush dogs were predicted as potential hosts for coronavirus. These indigenous carnivores are philogenetically closer to the known SARS-CoV/SARS-CoV-2 hosts and presented low ACE2 divergence.A new coronavirus transmission chain was developed in which white-tailed deer,a susceptible SARS-CoV-2 host, have the central position.Cougar play an important role because of its low divergent ACE2 level in deer and humans. The discovery of these potential coronavirus hosts will be useful for epidemiological surveillance and discovery of interventions that can contribute to break the transmission chain.
