Molecular phylogenetic analyses based on mitochondrial DNA and nuclear DNA sequences all strongly supported the new species as an independent lineage in Megophrys(Panophrys) clade. The new species is distinguished from its congeners by a combination of the following morphological characteristics:(1) small body size with SVL < 38.8 mm in male and SVL < 42.3 mm in female;(2) vomerine teeth absent;(3) tongue not notched behind;(4) a small horn-like tubercle at the edge of each upper eyelid;(5) tympanum distinctly visible, rounded;(6) two metacarpal tubercles in hand;(7) relative finger lengths: II < I < V < III;(8) toes with rudimentary webbing at bases;(9) heels overlapping when thighs are positioned at right angles to the body;(10) tibiotarsal articulation reaching the level between tympanum to eye when leg stretched forward;(11) an internal single subgular vocal sac in male;(12) in breeding male, the nuptial pads with black nuptial spines on the dorsal bases of the first and second fingers.展开更多

The spinal cord trauma is also associated with occasional development of such hyponatremia;it usually occurs within the first two-weeks of the injury. Hyponatremia can lead to alterations of consciousness, convulsions, coma, cardiac arrhythmias and on rare occasions, death. Authors present a practical oriented review of the literature.展开更多

For the analysis of the IR frequencies of the ρ(NH2) mode which is associated with the structural phase transitions in those metal structures, the temperature dependence of the mode frequency is assumed as an order parameter and the IR frequencies are calculated by using the molecular field theory. Also, the temperature dependence of the IR frequencies and of the damping constant as calculated from the models of pseudospin(dynamic disorder of dimethylammonium(DMA+) cations)–phonon coupling(PS) and of the energy fluctuation(EF), is fitted to the observed data for the wavenumber and FWHM of the ρ(NH2) IR mode of the niccolites studied here. We find that the observed behavior of the IR frequencies and the FWHM of this mode can be described adequately by the models studied for the crystalline structures of interest. This method of calculating the frequencies(IR and Raman) and FWHM of modes which are responsible for the phase transitions can also be applied to some other metal organic frameworks.展开更多

Oral rinse samples were obtained from 96 healthy adults and cultured in Sabouraud dextrose agar media and CHROMagar. Yeasts were identified by sequencing the D1/D2 region of the 28 S rRNA gene. Probable association among the socio-demographic characteristics, body mass index, family and personal medical history, oral hygiene, tobacco and/or alcohol consumption habits and presence of oral fungi was analyzed. Contingency tables and logistic regression were employed to evaluate possible relationships between the presence of oral fungi and mixed colonization with these variables. 57.3% of the healthy individuals had oral yeasts and 21.8% had mixed colonization. The most prevalent yeasts were Candida albicans(52%), C. parapsilosis(17.9%), and C.dubliniensis(7.57%). Yeasts with most frequently mixed colonization were C. albicans and C. parapsilosis. No relationships were found among the variables analyzed. However, the presence of mixed colonization was related to the presence of dental prostheses(P<0.006), dental apparatuses(P=0.016) and O’Leary index(P=0.012). This is the first study that characterized oral yeasts in Colombian healthy individuals, determined the most prevalent oral yeasts C. albicans, C. parapsilosis and C. dublinensis and an association of mixed colonization with the use of dental prostheses and aparatology and poor hygiene.展开更多

These types of lesions are often associated with increased intracranial pressure and cerebral edema, proper management of this can reduce tissue damage of the brain and improve brain perfusion. The use of acetazolamide is not indicated in guidelines for the management of intracranial hypertension, which is used to a great extent for the management of idiopathic intracranial hypertension. However, it is not yet known in the management of traumatic intracranial hypertension.展开更多

Due to the fact that homologous recombination is unusual in P. brasiliensis, the development of knockout isolates is currently non-feasible. The goal of this work was to assess RNA interference (RNAi) technology as an alternative tool for gene silencing previously employed successfully in H. capsulatum. For this purpose, we built different inverted repeat transgenic hairpin constructs to down-regulate the PbGP43 and PbP27 genes known to codify for two fungal immunogenic proteins that elicit a strong immune response during experimental paracoccidioidomycosis. Using the RNAi strategy, a reduction in the mRNA levels of the PbGP43 and PbP27 genes was observed during the first 20 days after selection;however, in the transformed yeast cells, the gene silencing status proved non-stable through the assay. We demonstrated that electrotransformation was suitable to transform P. brasiliensis yeast cells and integrate the hairpin constructions;nonetheless, gene silencing was not stable along the experimental time. A detailed analysis of the underlying molecular RNAi machinery may provide further insights into the intracellular mechanism that governs this reverse genetic tool.展开更多
