The conceptual frameworks are the theoretical accounting bases that are constituted by a set of principles that underlie as a bedrock foundation cornerstone for the development and updating of IFRSs. The existing conceptual frameworks were issued by IASB in 2010, after long years of protracted and wide consultation and joint project with the biggest American standard setter Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB). In year 2013, the IASB embarked on a solo project to update the conceptual framework and issued a discussion paper (DP/2013/1) to its users and stakeholder community for comments. The methodology used in this study of an extensive review of literature (secondary/primary) from the discussion paper, existing conceptual framework, and comment letters from investors, accounting, insurance, and international audit firms has been manipulated. The findings revealed that the existing conceptual framework has opposing objectives especially that of decision usefulness (future-oriented information) and concepts of "prudence and stewardship/accountability", which are deeply embedded within the framework as subsumed, but their prominence has been overshadowed and watered down by not identifying them as objectives. The finding also revealed that almost all public accounting and audit firms are advocating not only for the reinstatement of the "prudence and stewardship/accountability" but also for a clear definition of recognition, de-recognition, and measurement of statement of financial position elements (assets and liabilities) and also elements of the comprehensive income statement (revenues and expenses), which have seriously compromised investors, public accounting profession, learning/teaching of a framework-based understanding, and the entire IFRS user stakeholder community. A recommendation for further studying the abandoned joint IASB/FASB project should be investigated in the best interest of international accounting standards convergence.展开更多

However, a casual observation of a cluster of businesses in most malls of Botswana's cities seems to suggest foreign dominated business ownership which the researchers proved to be correct in some areas. This does not augur well for rapid growth and development of the country's economy and hence the wellbeing of its citizens. Accordingly, the researchers carried out a comprehensive research on the level of indigenous entrepreneurial participation and business ownership in Botswana focusing on the second largest city, Francistown's retail business, and tried to establish the reasons for lack of effective indigenous entrepreneurship in the economy since the attainment of independence from colonial Britain some 46 years ago in 1966. The research paper proposes the way forward in enhancing government efforts in promoting the indigenization process aiming at poverty eradication. The research methodology used consists of observations and questionnaires. The paper merged the empirical research information with the literature.展开更多

Many small finns face a number of challenges in terms of technology, economic strength, geographic expansion, human resources, and relationship marketing. These challenges emanate duly from the untrained and inexperienced workforce that knows little about the tools needed to market products and services successfully. Not only that, but even many small-scale retail service providers are pushed into their business with very little or actually without any marketing knowledge. They are driven some by seeing small niches in the market or just they have enough capital to start a small business. Little focus is actually made on the longer-term customer lifetime value; hence most of them fail and close down. This paper shall merge the literature review with the practical situation of what is currently happening on the ground. Questionnaires were designed and handed to small-scale retailers in Francistown, and follow-up interviews conducted to a randomly selected number of these retailers. The small retail outlets considered had less than 30 employees, meaning between one and 30 employees. This was done to ensure that effective strategies are put in place not only to help new start-up retailers and existing ones, but also big firms that might have been neglecting the importance of relationship marketing. This paper reframes and redefines the strategies for winning small-scale retailers that will compete locally and globally.展开更多

Particularly, we propose a hybrid CG method that incorporates the parameters βPRP, βFR and βCD, and this new search direction satisfies both the trust region feature and the sufficient descent conditions.Furthermore, under suitable conditions the developed method is proved to be globally convergent. The method is tested on some benchmark problems from the literature and numerical results show that it is quite efficient in solving large scale problems.展开更多
