And the significance of this experimental study was to introduce a multi-purpose phantom for gamma camera which could overcome the risk accompanied by quality control test procedure such as detector crystal damage and the appearance of moiré patterns. The results of the developed phantom showed an average count difference of 0.7% relative to the standard phantom and about 4% in X- to Y-axis directions relative to the standard phantom. Also, the measured absolute linearity was 0.63 mm in X direction and 0.64 mm in Y direction for the UFOV compare with 0.70 mm value of acceptance test. And the I.U. and D.U. of the developed phantom were 3.18% and 2.27% respectively for the UFOV relative to the standard phantom I.U. and D.U. (2.0% and 1.5%) for the UFOV respectively.展开更多

Information on participants’ socio-demographic characteristics, knowledge of clinical features of COVID-19, risk assessment and infection control measures for preventing disease transmission were collected. RESULTS: A total of 135 optometrists(80 females and 55 males) with a mean age of 32±10y responded to the survey. Most optometrists were aware of COVID-19 symptoms, modes of transmission and measures for preventing COVID-19 and transmission in the ophthalmic setup. However, more than half of the optometrists did not receive any training about protection or infection control by their employers at their work place. Social media was the most common source of information on COVID-19(76%). Most optometrists(85.2%) thought that the virus could be detected in tears, and 45.9% thought that red eye is a symptom of COVID-19.CONCLUSION: Optometrists in Jordan are aware of the clinical features and preventive measures related to COVID-19 infection. However, training on infection control is lacking and needs to be improved. Guidelines by international professional optometric associations should be promoted through regional and national associations to all registered optometrists and access to peer review. Journals should be encouraged to ensure that the knowledge about the pandemic is up to date and accurate.展开更多

Kittens were challenged 17-19 weeks after the primary infection of their mothers. Perfusion was undertaken six weeks after the challenge. At this time parasitological, pathological and immunological parameters, worm reduction rate, granuloma size reduction rate, egg reduction rate, IgG and IgM responses were assessed and compared to that of kittens born to un-infected mothers. The overall prevalence of congenital infection in kittens of infected mothers was 20% (12/60). After a postnatal challenge infection, prenatally infected kittens had a 54.66% worm reduction rate, 41.45% egg reduction rate, and 51.76% granuloma size reduction rate compared to naive kittens. Congenital infection decreases the IgM responses by 39.47% while it increases the IgG responses by 56.22%. Together, these results indicate that congenital infection induce long-term effects on pathology and immune response patterns in rabbits’ subsequently challenge with S. japonicum cercariae.展开更多

Bioimpedance signal (BIS) represents the aorta impedance variation during the heart cycle activity. BIS is detected by mean of two electrodes located at the level of the ascendant aorta. Automatic diagnosis method consists on preparing, first, a data base with a set of cepstral parameters of different BIS according to normal case and different cardiac diseases. This data base is composed from n classes Yk corresponding to n diseases. The classification of anonymous individuals is based on the determination of Fisher distance between anonymous disease and class Yk using Fischer formula. Our method permits to calculate seven relevant cepstral parameters. The application of Fisher method has allowed us to perform the diagnosis of five anonymous cases. The major interest of this method is its especially useful for the exploration of cardiovascular system anomalies for emergency cases, children, elderly and pregnant women who can’t support surgical operations especially at the level of the heart.展开更多

The collected data were the patient age, height, weight, kidneys size, ultrasound findings of involved kidneys, and duration of diabetes and residence region. The analyzed data show that the diabetes has been as endemic disease in central Sudan (Khartoum & Jazeera) representing 55% and in the west of Sudan representing 38%. The BMI of diabetic patients has been significantly (R2 = 0.6) decreasing following aging. The kidney size increases significantly as R2 = 0.75 and 0.6 for left and right kidney respectively. Their correlation is fitted in the following equations: y = 3.95x + 27.26 and y = 2.41x + 35.12 for the left and right kidney respectively. The impact of duration was a reduction in size significantly as R2 = 0.61 and 0.55 with a correlation fitted in the following equations: y = –2.22x + 139.9 and y = –1.51x + 96.59 for the left and right kidney respectively. The mean kidney length was (14.5 cm) and the renal cortex in the range of 2 - 2.3 cm, the kidneys size were so enlarged as 92.4 ± 11.7 and 121 ± 17.1 for the right and left kidney respectively while in late case of Diabetes, the kidney is more echogenic, atrophied size with loss of corticomedullary differentiation.展开更多

Type 2 diabetes (T2MD) is the most common form of diabetes which results from inefficiency of insulin secretion or resistance to insulin action, both of which lead to chronic hyperglycemia. Lipid peroxidation is an oxidative stress process that involve in T2DM complications. This study aimed to 1) determine plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) levels as a biomarker for lipid peroxidation in Sudanese patients with T2DM, and 2) assess the associations between MDA and diabetes-related variables. Material and Methods: This case-control study was conducted from November 2022 to June 2023 at the National University, Sudan. It included 100 participants, of whom 50 were T2DM patients and 50 were healthy controls. Data on demographics, clinical characteristics, and biochemical markers (FBS, HbA1c, and MDA) were collected. The NycoCard HbA1c method and the GOD-POD Method were used for HbA1c and glucose measurement, respectively. MDA was determined by the thiobarbituric acid reactive substances method. The data were analyzed using SPSS Version. Results: Significant differences were observed between T2DM patients and healthy controls in FBS (P = 0.000), HbA1c (P = 0.000), and MDA (P = 0.010), with T2DM patients exhibiting higher levels. The study revealed a strong positive correlation between MDA levels and the duration of diabetes (r = 0.69, P = 0.00), while other variables, including age, BMI, and glucose control, did not significantly correlate with MDA levels. Conclusion: Findings revealed elevated MDA levels in Sudanese T2DM patients, with a positive correlation between MDA and diabetes duration. These findings emphasize the importance of oxidative stress in T2DM pathogenesis and call for the need for targeted strategies to mitigate oxidative damage and improve diabetes care.展开更多
