The electric generator is a highly stressed plant component requiring periodic inspection and maintenance to reduce the risk of a costly forced outage. This paper briefly introduces two new robotic technologies for performing fast and reliable inspections of two pole electric generators with minimal mechanical disassembly requirements. The first robotic system is designed to inspect within the generator rotor and stator air gap, while the second robotic system is designed to inspect the generator retaining rings. An overview of the design and construction of each system is provided, along with an explanation of the capabilities and benefits they bring to the power station owner. 展开更多

This paper reports on an experimental and numerical study at low Reynolds number in order to evaluate the influence of the Coriolis forces on the flow in radial rotating channels. Operating conditions correspond to the flow in radial impellers for micro gasturbine applications. A comparison of detailed flow measurements with CFD resuits indicates that Navier Stokes solvers with standard k-ω and SST turbulence models predict the flow surprisingly well and that no extra corrections for Coriolis forces are required at these operating conditions 展开更多

Mass flow calculations by 3D Euler code has been controlled by means of 3D Navier-Stokes code taking into account inlet turbulence intensity and turbulence scale. The use of complicated numerical approaches (3D Euler or 3D Navier-Stokes codes) for mass flow definition demands close attention to quality of numerical techniques. Various reasons of inaccuracy of mass flow definition by using different 3D numerical approaches are analyzed. 展开更多

The flow field at both inlet and outlet was measured... This paper presents preliminary measurements of a 2-stage axial turbine with shrouded rotor cavities. The research facility and measurement techniques are reported. The flow field at both inlet and outlet was measured using 5-hole probes as well as temperature probes. The measurement results indicate that the inlet flow field is periodical in the tangential direction due to the influence of the first-stator leading-edge. The horse-shoe vortexes cause substantial flow blockage and turbulence near the endwall. Unsteady measurements of the rotor radial tip clearance show that one of the second-rotor blades has a little bigger clearance than the others. 展开更多
