In all but the normal and sham surgery groups the left half of Tlo was transected. Four hours after model induction, 5-Hz and 100-Hz electroacupuncture were used to stimulate the acupoints I-luantiao (GB 30), Zusan/i (ST 36), Zhiyan9 (DU 9) and Xuanshu (DU 5), or crude extract from semen coicis was intraperitoneally injected, for 8 consecutive weeks. The results indicated that electroacupuncture stimulation and intraperitoneal injection of semen coicis improved the morphology of spinal cord tissue, promoted the recovery of motion-evoked potentials, suppressed glial fibrillary acidic protein expression, and ameliorated motor function in rats with hemisection spinal cord injury. The effects of high-frequency (100 Hz) electroacupuncture ancl semen coicis were significant.展开更多

Successfully established model animals were treated by blood-letting puncture at twelve Jing-Well points of the hand, and/or by injecting mannitol into the caudal vein twice daily. Brain tissue was collected at 24, 48 and 72 hours after modeling, and blood was collected through the retinal vein before Evans blue was injected, approximately 1 hour prior to harvesting of brain tissue. Results showed that Evans blue leakage into brain tissue and serum nitric oxide synthase activity were significantly increased in model rats. Treatment with blood-letting punctures at twelve Jing-Well points of the hand and/or injection of mannitol into the caudal vein reduced the amount of Evans blue leakage into the brain tissue and serum nitric oxide synthase activity to varying degrees. There was no significant difference between single treatment and combined treatment. Experimental findings indicate that blood-letting punctures at twelve Jing-Well points of the hand can decrease blood-brain barrier permeability and serum nitric oxide synthase activity in rats following middle cerebral artery occlusion, and its effect is similar to that of mannitol injection alone and Jing-Well points plus mannitol injection.展开更多

It is clinically appropriate for many conditions, such as apoplectic sequela, complications and dementia. The basic research has showed that the brain-activating and orifice-opening acupuncture promotes the synthesis of nitric oxide (NO) in blood and brain tissues → raises NO conten_→ improves autonomic microvascular movement → ameliorates microcirculation; increases the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), lowers lipid peroxide (LPO) content and reduces a cerebral injury due to oxidation; decreases Ca2+ flow into cells and lightens Ca2+ overload; regulates abnormal metabolism of central neurotransmitters and lessens cerebrocellular necrosis or apoptosis. Needling point Shuigou (GV 26) can markedly reduce cerebral energy metabolism, protect cerebral cells and increase the mRNA expression of cholecystokinin in rat’s brain. Needling point Neiguan (PC 6) excites thalamic dorsomedial nucleus. Needling points Shuigou (GV 26) and Neiguan (PC 6) in old mice increases the number of active genes in cerebrocellular and hepatocellular nuclei, decreases nuclear membrane protein accumulated abnormally in hepatocellular and cerebrocellular nuclei, increases part of chromatinic nonhistone protein and improves the ability to regulate and control active gene transcription. Method: The thermaCATMT P30 infrared thermal imaging system was selected to measure the infrared radiation temperature on body surface of eight points in four meridians in 74 patients with hyperplasia of mammary glands and 63 healthy people. Results: The infrared radiation temperatures on body surface of right Youmen (KI 21) in cases with hyperplasia of mammary glands were significantly higher than the healthy people (P=-0.009), and the infrared radiation temperatures on left Youmen (KI 21) and other points had no significant difference with healthy people (P〉0.05). Conclusion: The infrared radiation temperatures on body surface of right Youmen (KI 21) have significant differences with healthy people. This might occur because of the pathogenesis of hyperplasia of mammary glands and of the specificity of the point Youmen (KI 21).展开更多
