In the first step, wind fields are retrieved at two time levels: the beginning and ending times of the data assimilation period, simultaneously from two successive volume scans by using the weak form constraints provided by the mass continuity and vorticity equations. As the retrieved wind fields are expressed by Legendre polynomial expansions at the beginning and ending times, the time tendency term in the vorticity equation can be conveniently formulated, and the retrieved winds can be compared with the radar observed radial winds in the cost function at the precise time and position of each radar beam. In the second step, the perturbation pressure and temperature fields at the middle time are then derived from the retrieved wind fields and the velocity time tendency by using the weak form constraints provided by the three momentum equations. The merits of the new method are demonstrated by numerical experiments with simulated radar observations and compared with the traditional least squares methods which consider neither the precise observation times and positions nor the velocity time tendency. The new method is also applied to real radar data for a heavy rainfall event during the 2001 Meiyu season in China.展开更多

The interaction between M and M±1 pole-pair magnetic fields produces radial force. Based on this principle,a bearingless machine is obtained. Conventional bearingless machine has dual windings, levitation windings and torque windings, which produce the two magnetic fields. In the proposed bearingless motor, the two needed magnetic fields are produced by feeding two groups of currents to a single set of multiphase windings. Taking a 5-phase induction motor as example, the inductance matrices, considering air gap eccentricity, are calculated with the modified winding function method. The radial force analytical model is deduced by virtual displacement, and its results are validated by FEA. The mathematical model of the new bearingless machine is set up,and the simulation results verified the feasibility of this novel bearingless motor.展开更多

In particular, the material in interplanetary space comes from coronal expansion in the form of inhomogeneous plasma flow (solar wind), which is the primary source of the interplanetary medium. Ground-based Interplanetary Scintillation (IPS) observations are an important and effective method for measuring solar wind speed and the structures of small diameter radio sources. We discuss one mode of ground-based single-station observations: Single-Station Single-Frequency (SSSF) mode. To study the SSSF mode, a new system has been established at Urumqi Astronomical Observatory (UAO), China, and a series of experimental observations were successfully carried out from May to December, 2008.展开更多

Diffusive shock acceleration is an efficient mechanism for particle acceleration. For investigating the shock structure, the energy injection and energy spectrum ofa CME-driven shock, we perform a dynamical Monte Carlo simulation of the CME-driven shock that occurred on 2006 December 14 using an anisotropic scattering law. The simulated results of the shock's fine structure, par- ticle injection, and energy spectrum are presented. We find that our simulation results give a good fit to the observations from multiple spacecraft.展开更多
