Antarctica contains numerous scientific mysteries,and the Antarctic ice sheet and its underlying bedrock contain important information about the geological structure of Antarctica and the evolutionary history of the ice sheet.In order to obtain the focus of these scientific explorations,the Antarctic drilling engineering is constantly developing.The drilling fluid performance directly determines the success or failure of drilling engineering.In order to enhance the poor performance for drilling fluids due to poor dispersion stability and easy settling of organoclay at ultra-low temperatures,the small-molecule wetting agent(HSR)for drilling fluid suitable for Antarctica was prepared by oleic acid,diethanolamine and benzoic acid as raw materials.Its chemical structure,properties and action mechanism were investigated by various experimental methods.The experimental results showed that 2%HSR could improve the colloidal rate for drilling fluid from 6.4%to 84.8%,and the increase rate of yield point was up to 167%.Meanwhile,it also made the drilling fluid excellent in shear dilution and thixotropy.In addition,2%HSR could increase the density from 0.872 to 0.884 g/cm^(3) at-55 ficial.And the drilling fluid with 2%HSR had a good thermal conductivity of 0.1458 W/(m·K)at-55 ficial.This study gives a new direction for the research of drilling fluid treatment agents suitable for the Antarctic region,which will provide strong support for the scientific exploration of the Antarctic region. 展开更多

By using the experimental approach of dropping liquid, the coupling of three anionic wetting agents with ten dust samples of sulfide ores was studied, and particularly the wetting effects of the wetting agents on the sulfide dust influenced by factors of agent concentration and sulfate additive in the wetting agent solutions were investigated. The results show that when the solution temperature is about 20 ℃, all the selected wetting agents are effective to most dust samples, but the effect is different. Wetting agents are more effective to the dust which is difficult to be wetted. Wetting agent solution with sodium sulfate can improve the wetting ability of sulfide dust. For sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate, the suitable concentration of sodium sulfate is 12 mmol/L. The cost of wetting agents can be reduced because the sodium sulfate is much cheaper than many surfactants. Since the dust of sulfide ores is composed of various minerals and elements, the whole effect of depressing dust should be considered while innovating a wetting agent. 展开更多

After gas drainage, the outburst seam is dry and, consequently, during subsequent mechanized mining, unwanted dust production is extensive. Because the hard dustfall typically has a small particle size it contains a high percentage of respirable dust. Considering these factors, this paper improved the efficiency of dustfall by reducing the surface tension of the liquid used as a wetting agent, then configuring five kinds of wetting agents by adopting various doses and types of surfactants, neutral inorganic salts and chemical additives, etc. After purchasing DA-85 and SRJ-1 wetting agent, the surface tension and critical micelle concentration of seven kinds of wetting agents were measured using the capillary rise method. Wetting agent A was confirmed to have the best comprehensive effect. The experiments were optimized by measuring and comparatively analyzing contact angles of pure water, SRJ-1 wetting agent and wetting agent A on the surface of different coal samples using a contact angle measurement instrument (HARKE- SPCA). By comparative analysis, dust-proof effects of seam, dynamic pressure water infusion and high- pressure spray in the tunneling face at the Daning coal mine using pure water, wetting agent SRJ-1 and A, it was determined that after using wetting agent A, the average dust concentration in the place of the mining machine driver, 10 m and 110 m away from the tunneling front is approximately 300 rag/ m^3, 240 mg/m^3 and 100 mg/m^3, respectively, This practice increased the dust-proof efficiency dramati- cally and achieved a good comprehensive dust-proof effect. 展开更多

Based on the experimental data by a full scale test model and the relevant existing achievements, four new concepts of group dust scrubbers were designed in the paper. The new dust scrubbers consist of two to four common dust separators in series: wet fan, wet Venturi and foam filter bed. Wetting and foaming agents are used to increase the efficiency of dust separation. High efficiency is not required for each part of the group dust scrubbers, but the whole system has a high working reliability. All parts of the group dust scrubbers have the most suitable separating efficiency for different size and concentration of dust particles in airflow, according to their technical features. Four group dust scrubbers have a high efficiency from 94.4% to 99.7% for separating respirable dust at a rational cost. 展开更多

Theductility and hardness of AA6011/SiCp composites using NaCl, SnCl2, NH4Cl and PdCl2 as wetting reagents were investigated. SiCp was cleaned with the wetting reagents, and used as reinforcement in AA6011 alloy using the stir casting method. Ductility and hardness responses of the composites were measured using standard methods. Microstructural features were examined using scanning electron microscopy and the phases were determined with the help of an X-ray diffractometer. The results show that for all wetting agents, the increase in cleaning time leads to initial increase in ductility to a certain value, but a decrease afterwards with further increase in cleaning time. The best combination of hardness (BHN 57.88) and ductility (11.91%) was shown under conditions of 40 g/L SnCl2and cleaning time of 60 min. A minor formation of Al4C3was noted in diffraction patterns, indicating that the formation of deleterious precipitate was hindered by the cleaning process. 展开更多

Kraft lignin as wet-strength and wet-stiffness additives for molded pulp materials

Derived from renewable resources,cellulose based materials are gaining new importance due to their recyclability and biodegradability.Still,one fundamental challenge is their high sensitivity to water.The addition of wet strength agents(WSA)is hence necessary to maintain strength and integrity in humid or wet conditions.In this article,technical lignin was used as WSA in bleached kraft pulp,which was thermopressed to materials with the potential to replace plastics.Cationic starch or a cationic flocculant(PCB 20)was used as a retention aid during the filtration process.The effect of moisture during thermopressing and lignin particle size were also studied.The results showed that elevated moisture during pressing had the biggest impact both on dry and wet strength.Wet strength(tensile test),up to 9 MPa,and wet strength retention,up to 12%,were obtained when moisture was present during pressing.However,the type of flocculant and the size of the lignin particles also had a limited effect on the strength.Wet strength improvement was most probably due to the plasticization of lignin at high temperatures,which was further aided by water.The cellulose-lignin network was strengthened by the melting of lignin,consolidating the network after cooling.The wet stiffness of the cellulose substrates was also increased from 200 to 938 MPa in the presence of lignin,while the elongation was maintained and no embrittlement was observed.The results in this article might hence pave the way for new developments in molded pulp and cellulose based plastics replacement. 展开更多
