This paper presents a self-multiplexing antenna based on diplexing and quadruplexing Substrate-Integrated Waveguide (SIW) cavities. The diplexing structure incorporates two V-shaped slots, while the quadruplexing structure advances this concept by combining the slots to form a cross-shaped configuration within the cavity. The widths and lengths of the slots are carefully tuned to achieve variations in the respective operating frequencies without affecting the others. The proposed diplexing antenna resonates at 8.48 and 9.2 GHz, with a frequency ratio of 1.08, while the quadruplexing antenna operates at 6.9, 7.1, 7.48, and 8.2GHz. Both designs exhibit isolation levels well below –20dB and achieve a simulated peak gain of 5.6 dBi at the highest frequency, with a compact cavity area of 0.56 λg^(2). The proposed antennas operate within the NR bands (n12, n18, n26), making them suitable for modern high-speed wireless communication systems. Moreover, the properties like multiband operation, compactness, high isolation, low loss, and low interference make the antenna favorable for the high-speed railway communication systems.展开更多

The polarization rotator is based on a two-dimensional periodic array of substrate integrated waveguide cavities, realizing the polarization rotation by coupling the input signal to the output wave through three metallic slots. Two layers of frequency selective surfaces are cascaded by substrate and form the polarization rotator. A vertical slot on the top layer is used to select the horizontal polarization from the incident wave, the vertical and the horizontal slots on the bottom layer are, respectively, used to obtain horizontally and vertically polarized outgoing waves. The two orthogonal outgoing waves are combined to result in the 45~ polarized wave. Both full wave simulation and experimental measurement are carried out, together validating the proposed method.展开更多

By rotating the metasurface element, circularly polarized and high gain antennas are achieved respectively. Firstly, multi-mode resonance theory is employed to broaden the bandwidth of the slot antenna. And then, an SIW cavity composed of 4×4 cornercut elements is added on the top of the slot antenna to achieve the circular polarization and improve the front-to-back ratio. Thirdly, the metasurface elements are sequentially rotated and a high gain antenna with 2-dBi enhancement on average in the operation band is obtained. Based on the two antenna units, two 2×2 antenna arrays are designed. The circularly polarized and high gain antenna arrays are both fabricated to verify the correctness. Furthermore, the novel wideband phase shifter is employed in the circularly polarized antenna to obtain an operating bandwidth of 38%(4.05 GHz–5.95 GHz)and AR bandwidth of 24.9%(4.4 GHz–5.65 GHz). The bandwidth of the high gain antenna can reach 42.7%(3.95 GHz–6.1 GHz) and with the gain enhancement of 2 dBi compared with that of the circularly polarized antenna. The gain remains steady in most of operating band within a variation of 1 dBi. It is remarkable that the rotating of the metasurface element has a great influence on the antenna performance, which provides a new explication for the multi-function antenna design.展开更多

The characteristics of the quasi-elliptic bandpass response are realized by shunting two substrate integrated waveguide cavities of different sizes, with the same slots on both sides of the metal surfaces. Four cavities of different sizes and two slots of different sizes are used to design the novel FSS. Every bandpass response with sharp sidebands is induced by two transmission nulls that are generated by the coupling between the slot aperture resonance and the cavity resonance. The simulation results show that such dual-band FSS has the advantages of high selectivity and stable performance at different oblique incident angles. Moreover, it is easy to fabricate.展开更多

A lateral taper in the upper GeSi layer has room for increasing the modulating efficiency and alleviating the sensitivity of the extinction ratio (ER) and insertion loss (IL) to the length of the active region. The light behavior and the effect of the taper are explored in detail using the beam propagation method (BPM). After optimization, the light can nearly be totally confined in the GeSi layer without any oscillation. The modulator with the designed taper can achieve low IL and high ER.展开更多

We used a single-beam characterization protocol that accounts for the magnitude and sign of the real and imaginary parts of the third-order nonlinear susceptibility of integrated Ge23Sb7S70 (GeSbS) chalcogenide glass waveguides in the near-infrared wavdength range at λ = 1580 nm. We measured a waveguide nonlinear parameter of 7.0 4- 0.7 W-1 · m-1, which corresponds to a nonlinear refractive index of n2 =(0.93 ± 0.08) ×10-18 m2/W, comparable to that of silicon, but with an 80 times lower two-photon absorption coefficient βTPA = (0.010± 0.003) cm/GW, accompanied with linear propagation losses as low as 0.5 dB/cm. 文摘Waveguide-integrated mid-infrared(MIR)photodetectors are pivotal components for the development of molecular spectroscopy applications, leveraging mature photonic integrated circuit(PIC)technologies.Despite various strategies, critical challenges still remain in achieving broadband photoresponse,cooling-free operation, and large-scale complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor(CMOS)-compatible manufacturability. To leap beyond these limitations, the bolometric effect–a thermal detection mechanism–is introduced into the waveguide platform.More importantly,we pursue a free-carrier absorption(FCA)process in germanium(Ge)to create an efficient light-absorbing medium, providing a pragmatic solution for full coverage of the MIR spectrum without incorporating exotic materials into CMOS.Here,we present an uncooled waveguide-integrated photodetector based on a Ge-on-insulator(Ge-OI)PIC architecture, which exploits the bolometric effect combined with FCA.Notably, our device exhibits a broadband responsivity of 28.35%/mW across 4030–4360 nm(and potentially beyond),challenging the state of the art, while achieving a noise-equivalent power of 4.03×10^(−7) W/Hz^(0.5) at 4180 nm.We further demonstrate label-free sensing of gaseous carbon dioxide(CO_(2))using our integrated photodetector and sensing waveguide on a single chip. This approach to room-temperature waveguide-integrated MIR photodetection, harnessing bolometry with FCA in Ge,not only facilitates the realization of fully integrated lab-on-a-chip systems with wavelength flexibility but also provides a blueprint for MIR PICs with CMOS-foundry-compatibility.

文摘A miniaturized diplexer with a wide-stopband based on half-mode substrate integrated waveguide(HMSIW)is proposed. The diplexer combines a dual-mode resonator(DMR)with single-mode resonators(SMRs).The employment of HMSIW technology breaks through the limitations of SMRs on miniaturization, while effectively addressing the limitation on wide-stopband performance that is typically encountered with the TE202 mode in the SMRs.A second-order prototype, centered at 10.34 GHz and 13.90 GHz,has been designed and fabricated, using a TE_(i01)/TE_(301) DMR.
文摘Fiber-based curvature sensors, especially those capable of discerning the direction of curvature, have attracted more and more interest due to their promising applications in structural health monitoring,high-precision measurement, medical and biological diagnosis-treat instruments, and so on.Here,we propose and demonstrate a compact directional curvature sensor that comprises two bridged waveguides and three Bragg gratings in a section of three-core fiber(TCF).Both the waveguides and gratings are integrated by femtosecond laser micromachining method. The waveguides, connecting the TCF outer cores to the lead-in single-mode fiber core, function as beam couplers to realize simultaneous interrogation of all three gratings without any separate fan-in/out component.Owing to the spatial specificity, the outer-core gratings exhibit high and direction-dependent sensitivity to curvature, whereas the central-core grating is nearly insensitive to curvature but shows similar sensitivities to ambient temperature and axial strain as the outer-core gratings. It can be used to compensate the cross impact of temperature and strain when the outer-core gratings are applied for curvature detection. Moreover, the wavelength interval between two outer-core gratings is also proposed as an indicator for curvature sensing. It features with a much higher sensitivity to curvature and reduced sensitivities to temperature and axial strain. The corresponding maximum sensitivity to curvature is as high as 191.89 pm/m-1,while the sensitivities to temperature and strain are only 0.3 pm/℃and 0.0218 pm/με,respectively.Therefore,our proposed device provides a compact and robust all-infiber solution for directional curvature sensing. It not only offers high sensitivity and accuracy but also immunity to temperature and axial strain fluctuations, making it a promising tool for a wide range of applications.

文摘Based on the substrate integrated waveguide technology, we present a dual-band frequency selective surface (FSS) with a quasi-elliptic bandpass response. Moreover, it is easy to fabricate.

文摘In this paper,an integrated substrate gap waveguide(ISGW)filtering antenna is proposed at millimeter wave band, whose surface wave and spurious modes are simultaneously suppressed.A secondorder filtering response is obtained through a coupling feeding scheme using one uniform impedance resonator(UIR)and two stepped-impedance resonators(SIRs).To increase the stopband width of the antenna, the spurious modes are suppressed by selecting the appropriate sizes of the ISGW unit cell.Furthermore, the ISGW is implemented to improve the radiation performance of the antenna by alleviating the propagation of surface wave. And an equivalent circuit is investigated to reveal the working principle of ISGW.To demonstrate this methodology,an ISGW filtering antenna operating at a center frequency of 25 GHz is designed, fabricated, and measured. The results show that the antenna achieves a stopband width of 1.6f0(center frequency),an out-of-band suppression level of 21 dB,and a peak realized gain of 8.5 dBi.
文摘Efficient coupling from the silicon waveguide to the GeSi layer is the key to success in the GeSi electro-absorption (EA) modulator based on evanescent coupling. The modulator with the designed taper can achieve low IL and high ER.
文摘A novel design of a two-channel optical add-drop multiplexer based on a self-rolled-up microtube (SRM) is presented. This design consists of an SRM that has a parabolic lobe-like pattern along the tube's axial direction, as well as straight silicon waveguides and a 180° waveguide bend. The vertical configuration of the SRM and waveguides is analyzed by the coupled mode theory for achieving the optinmm gap. In the critical coupling regime, when the device serves as an optical demultiplexer, the minimum insertion loss is 1.94 dB, and the maximunl channel crosstalk is -6.036 dB. Also, as an optical multiplexer, the maximum crosstalk becomes -11.9 dB.

文摘A Lithium niobate (LiNbO3) based integrated optical E-field sensor with an optical waveguide Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) and a tapered antenna has been designed and fabricated for the measurement of the pulsed electric field. The minimum detectable E-field of the sensor was 10kV/m. The sensor showed a good linear characteristic while the input E-fields varied from 10kV/m to 370kV/m. Furthermore, the maximum detectable E-field of the sensor, which could be calculated from the sensor input/output characteristic, was approximately equal to 1000kV/m. All these results suggest that such sensor can be used for the measurement of the lighting impulse electric field.

文摘In this paper, we report the experimental characterization of highly nonlinear GeSbS chalcogenide glass waveguides. The outstanding linear and nonlinear properties of GeSbS, with a measured nonlinear figure of merit FOM TPA = 6.0 ± 1.4 at λ = 1580 nm, ultimately make it one of the most promising integrated platforms for the realization of nonlinear functionalities.
