A case study indicated that at primary resonance, first-order dynamic displacement response is greater than higher-order mode responses, but the influence of dynamic moment and shearing force of higher-order modes cannot be ignored. The natural fi'equency of risers decreased sharply with increasing length of the riser, but increased with increasing top tension. Various factors should be considered to avoid vortex-induced vibration in practical application, and the influence of vortex-induced vibration could be estimated by calculating the fatigue lifetime of riser.展开更多
Based on the daily reanalysis data released by NCEP/NCAR and the daily precipi- tation of 753 Chinese stations from May to August during the period of 1960 to 2012, the statistical characteristics of the cold vortex i...Based on the daily reanalysis data released by NCEP/NCAR and the daily precipi- tation of 753 Chinese stations from May to August during the period of 1960 to 2012, the statistical characteristics of the cold vortex in northeastern China were analyzed. In addition, the strength index, which described the characteristics of the vortex consistently and fre- quently, and the geographical distribution were given by continuous anomalies of circulation. Based on this index, the activity routines of the cold vortex, characteristics of atmospheric circulation, and their effects on precipitation in northeastern China were analyzed. The results show that: the activities of the cold vortex exhibit remarkable features of annual and interde- cadal oscillation, and the vortex high frequency and its characteristics of atmospheric circula- tion are described more accurately by the strength index of the cold vortex, which shows a high correspondence with the vortex precipitation during early summer and midsummer in the northeast. In strong (weak) vortex years, the general circulation in the middle and high lati- tudes of Eurasia is to the advantage (disadvantage) of the formation, development and maintenance of the cold vortex, thus it is easy (difficult) to form the circulation which is bene- ficial to transmit vapor from south to north during the period of July to August. Blocking over the Ural Mountains prevails (does not prevail) in early summer, and blocking over the Sea of Okhotsk prevails (does not prevail) in midsummer. Areas where the subtropical high is too small (large) and moves toward the north too late (early) are better (worse) for the mainte- nance of the cold vortex in northeastern China.展开更多

However, the sub-grid scale ...In view of the fact that large scale vortices play the substantial role of momentum transport in turbulent flows, large eddy simulation (LES) is considered as a better simulation model. However, the sub-grid scale (SGS) models reported so far have not ascertained under what flow conditions the LES can lapse into the direct nu-merical simulation. To overcome this discrepancy, this paper develops a swirling strength based the SGS model to properly model the turbulence intermittency, with the primary characteristics that when the local swirling strength is zero, the local sub-grid viscosity will be vanished. In this paper, the model is used to investigate the flow characteris-tics of zero-incident incompressible turbulent flows around a single square cylinder (SC) at a low Reynolds number range Re ∈ [103, 104]. The flow characteristics investigated include the Reynolds number dependence of lift and drag coefficients, the distributions of time-spanwise averaged variables such as the sub-grid viscosity and the logarithm of Kolmogorov micro-scale to the base of 10 at Re=2 500 and 104, the contours of spanwise and streamwise vorticity components at t = 170. It is revealed that the peak value of sub-grid viscosity ratio and its root mean square (RMS) values grow with the Reynolds number. The dissipation rate of turbulent kinetic energy is larger near the SC solid walls. The instantaneous factor of swirling strength intermittency (FSI) exhibits some laminated structure involved with vortex shedding.展开更多
