A stencil-like volume of fluid (VOF) method is proposed for tracking free interface. A stencil on a grid cell is worked out according to the normal direction of the interface, in which only three interface positions are possible in 2D cases, and the interface can be reconstructed by only requiring the known local volume fraction information. On the other hand, the fluid-occupying-length is defined on each side of the stencil, through which a unified fluid-occupying volume model and a unified algorithm can be obtained to solve the interface advection equation. The method is suitable for the arbitrary geometry of the grid cell, and is extendible to 3D cases. Typical numerical examples show that the current method can give "sharp" results for tracking free interface. 展开更多

近年来,数值波浪水池已成为波浪模拟及波浪与结构物相互作用研究的重要手段。采用调和多项式单元法(HPC)高精度求解Laplace方程,引入体积分数法(VOF)实现自由面的稳定模拟与精确追踪,构建了全非线性HPC-VOF波浪水池。基于HPC理论框架采... 近年来,数值波浪水池已成为波浪模拟及波浪与结构物相互作用研究的重要手段。采用调和多项式单元法(HPC)高精度求解Laplace方程,引入体积分数法(VOF)实现自由面的稳定模拟与精确追踪,构建了全非线性HPC-VOF波浪水池。基于HPC理论框架采用域分解方法开发了各种非线性波浪的质量源造波技术,对深水五阶Stokes波模拟进行了网格和时间步收敛性研究。HPC-VOF波浪水池中不同参数的五阶Stokes波和椭圆余弦波的生成、传播和演化的时域模拟验证了不同水深条件下非线性波浪模拟的高效性,与解析解或参考文献数据的对比结果表明,数值波浪水池能高精度地再现非线性波浪的特征。此外,对微幅入射波和垂直壁面反射波叠加形成驻波的模拟能准确重现其演化过程及驻波的典型振动模式。 展开更多

To fundamentally alleviate the excavation chamber clogging during slurry tunnel boring machine(TBM)advancing in hard rock,large-diameter short screw conveyor was adopted to slurry TBM of Qingdao Jiaozhou Bay Second Undersea Tunnel.To evaluate the discharging performance of short screw conveyor in different cases,the full-scale transient slurry-rock two-phase model for a short screw conveyor actively discharging rocks was established using computational fluid dynamics-discrete element method(CFD-DEM)coupling approach.In the fluid domain of coupling model,the sliding mesh technology was utilized to describe the rotations of the atmospheric composite cutterhead and the short screw conveyor.In the particle domain of coupling model,the dynamic particle factories were established to produce rock particles with the rotation of the cutterhead.And the accuracy and reliability of the CFD-DEM simulation results were validated via the field test and model test.Furthermore,a comprehensive parameter analysis was conducted to examine the effects of TBM operating parameters,the geometric design of screw conveyor and the size of rocks on the discharging performance of short screw conveyor.Accordingly,a reasonable rotational speed of screw conveyor was suggested and applied to Jiaozhou Bay Second Undersea Tunnel project.The findings in this paper could provide valuable references for addressing the excavation chamber clogging during ultra-large-diameter slurry TBM tunneling in hard rock for similar future. 展开更多

The volume of fluid(VOF) formulation is applied to model the combustion process of a single droplet in a hightemperature convective air free stream environment.The calculations solve the flow field for both phases,and consider the droplet deformation based on an axisymmetrical model.The chemical reaction is modeled with one-step finite-rate mechanism and the thermo-physical properties for the gas mixture are species and temperature dependence.A mass transfer model applicable to the VOF calculations due to vaporization of the liquid phases is developed in consideration with the fluctuation of the liquid surface.The model is validated by examining the burning rate constants at different convective air temperatures,which accord well with experimental data of previous studies.Other phenomena from the simulations,such as the transient history of droplet deformation and flame structure,are also qualitatively accordant with the descriptions of other numerical results.However,a different droplet deformation mechanism for the low Reynolds number is explained compared with that for the high Reynolds number.The calculations verified the feasibility of the VOF computational fluid dynamics(CFD) formulation as well as the mass transfer model due to vaporization. 展开更多

高桩结构是一种港口海岸码头广泛应用的结构形式,其在波浪作用下的结构动力响应是保证码头稳定运行的关键因素。使用ABAQUS软件建立码头三维模型、STAR-CCM+软件建立波浪水槽,采用k-ε湍流模型和流体体积(VOF)运动界面追踪方法模拟波浪... 高桩结构是一种港口海岸码头广泛应用的结构形式,其在波浪作用下的结构动力响应是保证码头稳定运行的关键因素。使用ABAQUS软件建立码头三维模型、STAR-CCM+软件建立波浪水槽,采用k-ε湍流模型和流体体积(VOF)运动界面追踪方法模拟波浪,实现码头群桩结构和波浪之间双向耦合的模拟。由于桩距与桩直径的比值大于4,不需要考虑桩间相互影响,对比模型试验误差低于5%精度可以满足要求。结果表明,码头群桩在波高为0.3、0.4、0.5 m下的最大受力和位移均能满足规范要求,桩顶处位移最大为0.66 mm;最大应力产生在群桩前排桩底,为152.4 kPa,桩底区域混凝土易发生失稳破坏,实际工程中应格外关注。 展开更多

强烈的水流脉动是造成消力池等水工结构损伤的重要原因之一,因此明晰水工结构中的水流脉动特性对保障工程安全运行至关重要。基于DES模型及VOF方法建立了亭子口水电站消力池水工模型的精细数值模型,模拟结果与实验结果一致性较好。基于... 强烈的水流脉动是造成消力池等水工结构损伤的重要原因之一,因此明晰水工结构中的水流脉动特性对保障工程安全运行至关重要。基于DES模型及VOF方法建立了亭子口水电站消力池水工模型的精细数值模型,模拟结果与实验结果一致性较好。基于数值模拟结果分析了消力池中压力波动、脉动流速、涡量、以及紊动能的分布变化情况。结果表明消力池中压力波动沿水流方向表现出双峰分布特点,且在水流冲击区脉动量占比超过10%;展向和流向脉动流速在消力池中占主导地位,垂向脉动较弱,在水舌碰撞区域底板中心线处的展向脉动流速迅速减小;底板中心线和表孔中心线上流向和垂向的涡量具有小时均值、大脉动值的特点,跌坎引起的横轴旋涡对展向涡量分布有较大影响。紊动能能谱分析的结果显示消力池中水流脉动主要由大量1Hz以下的低频脉动组成,表明消力池中的紊流波动主要由大尺度和低频的涡流控制。研究结果有助于加深对消力池等泄洪消能结构水流特性的认知,为其设计及安全评估提供了一定参考。 展开更多

气液两相流动广泛存在于反应堆堆芯以及蒸汽发生器等设备中。气泡聚并、破碎等气泡动力学行为直接影响相关设备的热工水力性能。群平衡模型(PBM)是多相流系统中处理多组分粒子平衡问题的重要方法。气泡聚并核函数是PBM主要核函数之一,... 气液两相流动广泛存在于反应堆堆芯以及蒸汽发生器等设备中。气泡聚并、破碎等气泡动力学行为直接影响相关设备的热工水力性能。群平衡模型(PBM)是多相流系统中处理多组分粒子平衡问题的重要方法。气泡聚并核函数是PBM主要核函数之一,用于描述两个或多个气泡在碰撞过程中聚并为一个较大气泡的概率,其准确性直接影响欧拉-欧拉框架下的气泡动力学行为研究及热工水力性能的预测。排液模型是当前应用最为广泛的聚并效率模型,是聚并核函数的重要部分。通过将流体体积法(VOF)与连续表面力模型(CSF)相结合对两同轴气泡聚并过程开展了2D数值模拟,并根据模拟结果定量获得气泡聚并过程的排液时间,通过研究不同黏度下气泡的聚并,定量描述了气泡开始排液的接触时刻,讨论了初始液膜厚度与气泡直径、形变比以及黏度之间的关系,对文献中已有的4个排液时间模型的适用性及准确性进行系统评价。研究结果表明,接触时刻的定义,初始液膜厚度的预测,以及黏性力和惯性力作用的综合考虑和评估对于提高排液时间模型的准确性,扩展其适用范围,进而提高PBM方法的计算准确性有重要的意义。 展开更多

[目的]与传统的实心圆柱形入水过程相比,开放空腔圆柱形结构的入水过程更为复杂,对其入水机理的研究对类似结构的设计具有重要指导意义。[方法]采用流体体积法(VOF)对开放空腔圆柱的入水机理进行研究,对其在入水过程中的载荷和运动特征进行分析。基于计算流体力学(CFD)方法,以现有试验数据为基准,进行网格不确定性分析,验证该数值方法的准确性。在此基础上,研究不同入水角度下半封闭圆柱的入水过程,评估入水角度对半封闭圆柱所受载荷和运动特征的影响。[结果]研究结果表明:减小入水角度能有效降低圆柱表面的接触载荷;在半封闭圆柱入水过程中,圆柱两侧不对称的气泡空腔会导致横向速度出现短暂波动,波动幅值随入水角度的增大而减小,同时圆柱内部空气压力发生波动会导致圆柱的横向速度和竖向速度出现周期性波动,该波动受入水角度的影响较小,在各入水角下均较为明显。[结论]该研究可供类似结构的声呐浮标和某些水下机器人的结构设计参考。 展开更多

A vertical two-dimensional numerical model has been applied to solving the Reynolds Averaged Navier- Stokes (RANS} equations in the simulation of current and wave propagation through vegetated and non- vegetated waters. The k-e model is used for turbulence closure of RANS equations. The effect of vegeta- tion is simulated by adding the drag force of vegetation in the flow momentum equations and turbulence model. To solve the modified N-S equations, the finite difference method is used with the staggered grid system to solver equations. The Youngs' fractional volume of fluid (VOF) is applied tracking the free sur- face with second-order accuracy. The model has been tested by simulating dam break wave, pure current with vegetation, solitary wave runup on vegetated and non-vegetated channel, regular and random waves over a vegetated field. The model reasonably well reproduces these experimental observations, the model- ing approach presented herein should be useful in simulating nearshore processes in coastal domains with vegetation effects. 展开更多

Hydrodynamics of a continuous chain of bubbles inside a bubble column reactor was simulated. The grid independence study was first conducted and a grid size of 1.0 mm was adopted in order to minimize the computing time without compromising the accuracy of the results. The predictions were validated by comparing the experimental studies reported in the literature. It was found that all surface tension models can describe the bubble rise and bubble plume in a column with slight deviations. 展开更多

An active 'absorbing wave-maker based on linear wave theory is set on the left boundary of the wave flume. The progressive waves and the absorbing waves are generated simultaneously at the active wave generating-absorbing boundary. The absorbing waves are generated to eliminate the waves coming back to the generating boundary due to reflection from the outflow boundary and the structures. SIRW method proposed by Frigaard and Brorsen (1995) is used to separate the incident waves and reflected waves. The digital filters are designed based on the surface elevation signals of the two wave gauges. The corrected velocity of the wave-maker paddle is the output from the digital filter in real time. The numerical results of regular and irregular waves by the active absorbing-generating boundary are compared with the numerical results by the ordinary generating boundary to verify the performance of the active absorbing-generator boundary. The differences between the initial incident waves and the estimated incident waves are analyzed. 展开更多

A series of TiO 2-MoO 3 nano-composite photocatalysts were prepared by supercritical fluid dry method(SCFD) and an impregnation technique with TiCl 4 and (NH 4) 6Mo 7O 24 ·4H 2O as the starting materials. The catalysts were characterized by the means of XRD, TEM and UV-Vis. Methyl orange was used as model compound for the evaluation of their catalytic activities. The results indicated that the photo-catalyst prepared by SCFD had the advantages of small size(12.84 nm), narrow distribution and good dispersivity. The presence of small amount of Mo in composite catalyst gives rise to the red shift of its absorbance wavelength, decrease of its energy gap and increase of the utility of visible light. Furthermore, higher surface acidity of the photo-catalyst was obtained as the result of the addition of MoO 3. Compared with pure TiO 2, the catalytic activity of the TiO 2-MoO 3 nano-composite photo-catalyst was improved significantly. As the doping concentration of the composite catalysts was controlled at 0.6%(molar percentage), 100% degradation of methyl orange was achieved with in 1.2 h irradiation time. 展开更多

This article introduces a numerical scheme on the basis of semi-implicit method for pressure-linked equations (SIMPLE) algorithm to simulate incompressible unsteady flows with fluid-structure interaction. The Navier-Stokes equation is discretized spatially with collocated finite volume method and Eulerian implicit method in time domain. The hybrid method that combines immersed boundary method (IBM) and volume of fluid (VOF) method is used to deal with rigid body motion in fluid domain. The details of movement of immersed boundary (IB) and calculation of VOF are also described. This method can be easily applied to any existing finite-volume-based computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solver without complex operation, with which fluid flow interaction of arbitrarily complex geometry can be realized on a fixed mesh. The method is verified by low Reynolds number flows passing both stationary and oscillating cylinders. The drag and lift coefficients acquired by the study well accord with other published results, which indicate the reasonability of the proposed method. 展开更多

The Euler-Euler model is less effective in capturing the free surface of flow film in the spiral separator,and thus a Eulerian multi-fluid volume of fluid(VOF)model was first proposed to describe the particulate flow in spiral separators.In order to improve the applicability of the model in the high solid concentration system,the Bagnold effect was incorporated into the modelling framework.The capability of the proposed model in terms of predicting the flow film shape in a LD9 spiral separator was evaluated via comparison with measured flow film thicknesses reported in literature.Results showed that sharp air–water and air-pulp interfaces can be obtained using the proposed model,and the shapes of the predicted flow films before and after particle addition were reasonably consistent with the observations reported in literature.Furthermore,the experimental and numerical simulation of the separation of quartz and hematite were performed in a laboratory-scale spiral separator.When the Bagnold lift force model was considered,predictions of the grade of iron and solid concentration by mass for different trough lengths were more consistent with experimental data.In the initial development stage,the quartz particles at the bottom of the flow layer were more possible to be lifted due to the Bagnold force.Thus,a better predicted vertical stratification between quartz and hematite particles was obtained,which provided favorable conditions for subsequent radial segregation. 展开更多

The past decade has witnessed the substantial growth in research interests and progress on the subject of coupled hydro-mechanical processes in rocks and soils,driven mainly by the surge of research in unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs and associated hazards.Many coupling techniques have been developed to include the effects of fluid flow in the discrete element method(DEM),and the techniques have been applied to a variety of geomechanical problems.Although these coupling methods have been successfully applied in various engineering fields,no single fluid/DEM coupling method is universal due to the complexity of engineering problems and the limitations of the numerical methods.For researchers and engineers,the key to solve a specific problem is to select the most appropriate fluid/DEM coupling method among these modeling technologies.The purpose of this paper is to give a comprehensive review of fluid flow/DEM coupling methods and relevant research.Given their importance,the availability or unavailability of best practice guidelines is outlined.The theoretical background and current status of DEM are introduced first,and the principles,applications,and advantages and disadvantages of different fluid flow/DEM coupling methods are discussed.Finally,a summary with speculation on future development trends is given. 展开更多

This paper investigates the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) boundary layer flow of an incompressible upper-convected Maxwell (UCM) fluid over a porous stretching surface. Similarity transformations are used to reduce the governing partial differential equations into a kind of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The nonlinear prob- lem is solved by using the successive Taylor series linearization method (STSLM). The computations for velocity components are carried out for the emerging parameters. The numerical values of the skin friction coefficient are presented and analyzed for various parameters of interest in the problem. 展开更多

An Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian(ALE)approach with interface tracking is developed in this paper to simulate the supersonic parachute inflation.A two-way interaction between a nonlinear finite element method and a finite volume method is accomplished.In order to apply this interface tracking method to problems with instantaneous large deformation and self-contact,a new virtual structure contact method is proposed to leave room for the body-fitted mesh between the contact structural surfaces.In addition,the breakpoint due to the fluid mesh with negative volume is losslessly restarted by the conservative interpolation method.Based on this method,fluid and structural dynamic behaviors of a highly folded disk-gap-band parachute are obtained.Numerical results such as maximum Root Mean Square(RMS)drag,general canopy shape and the smallest canopy projected areas in the terminal descent state are in accordance with the wind tunnel test results.This analysis reveals the inflation law of the disk-gap-band parachute and provides a new numerical method for supersonic parachute design. 展开更多

The bubble shape and drag coefficient were compared with experimental results. It is observed that the simulated results show good conformity to experimental results over a wide range of Reynolds number. In addition, the detailed flow field based on the reference coordinate system moving with the bubble is obtained, and the relationship among flow field, bubble shape and velocity is discussed. 展开更多
