First, the parameters of the driver's visual characteristics at some real roads, including gaze fixation distribution, mean fixation duration, visual angle distribution and some other parameters at intersections, are collected. Then, the relationship between the traffic flow rate at intersections and the parameters of driver eye movements are established. The analytical results indicate that when the traffic flow is unsaturated, the parameters of driver eye movements change relatively little; however, when the traffic flow is saturated, the parameters of driver eye movements change drastically. Finally, the saturation-flow-rate model is modified according to the parameters of driver eye movements; thus, a capacity model of intersections considering the driver's visual characteristics is obtained.展开更多

This algorithm introduces fuzzy entropy, makes full use of neighborhood information, fuzzy information and human visual characteristics.To enhance an image, this paper first carries out the reasonable fuzzy-3 partition of its histogram into the dark region, intermediate region and bright region. It then extracts the statistical characteristics of the three regions and adaptively selects the parameter αaccording to the statistical characteristics of the image’s gray-scale values. It also adds a useful nonlinear transform, thus increasing the ubiquity of the algorithm. Finally, the causes for the gray-scale value overcorrection that occurs in the traditional image enhancement algorithms are analyzed and their solutions are proposed.The simulation results show that our image enhancement algorithm can effectively suppress the noise of an image, enhance its contrast and visual effect, sharpen its edge and adjust its dynamic range.展开更多
The influence of Tibetan characters on the visual recognition effects of Tibetan-Chinese bilingual guide signs based on drivers visual characteristics was studied.Four versions of Tibetan-Chinese bilingual guide signs...The influence of Tibetan characters on the visual recognition effects of Tibetan-Chinese bilingual guide signs based on drivers visual characteristics was studied.Four versions of Tibetan-Chinese bilingual guide signs with different heights and aspect ratios of Tibetan characters were designed,and corresponding road simulation models were established.10 Tibetan drivers and 10 Han drivers were selected to conduct driving simulation experiments using a driving simulator and eye tracker.The resultant data of the participant s pupil diameter and the visual recognition duration obtained from the eye tracker system were analyzed by analysis of variance.Combining results from the statistical analysis of driving simulator data and the questionnaire results on the visual recognition experience,it can be concluded that for Tibetan drivers,when the height of Tibetan characters was 2/3 of the height of Chinese characters,the visual recognition effect of the signs was better than that of 1/3 and 1/2 of the height of Chinese characters,indicating that increasing the height of Tibetan characters was conducive to improving the visual recognition effect of guide signs.The aspect ratio form of Tibetan had no significant effect on the level of difficulty encountered in drivers visual recognition,but it would affect the aesthetics of the bilingual guide signs.The recommended character height in Tibetan should be increased to improve the visual recognition process for Tibetan drivers.展开更多

Speeding is one of the primary contributors to rural road crashes.Self-explaining theory offers a solution to reduce speeding,which suggests that well-designed facility environments(i.e.,road facilities and surroundin...Speeding is one of the primary contributors to rural road crashes.Self-explaining theory offers a solution to reduce speeding,which suggests that well-designed facility environments(i.e.,road facilities and surrounding landscapes)can automatically guide drivers to choose appropriate speeds on different road categories.This study proposes an improved lightweight convolutional neural network(LW-CNN)that includes drivers’visual perception characteristics(i.e.,depth perception and dynamic vision)to conduct the self-explaining analysis of the facility environment on 2-lane rural roads.Data for this study are gathered through naturalistic driving experiments on 2-lane rural roads across five Chinese provinces.A total of 3502 visual facility environment images,alongside their corresponding operation speeds and speed limits,are collected.The improved LW-CNN exhibits high accuracy and efficiency in predicting operation speeds with these visual facility environment images,achieving a train loss of 0.05%and a validation loss of 0.15%.The semantics of facility environments affecting operation speeds are further identified by combining this LW-CNN with the gradient-weighted class activation mapping(Grad-CAM)algorithm and the semantic segmentation network.Then,six typical 2-lane rural road categories perceived by drivers with different operation speeds and speeding probability(SP)are sum-marized using k-means clustering.An objective and comprehensive analysis of each category’s semantic composition and depth features is conducted to evaluate their influence on drivers’speeding probability and road category perception.The findings of this study can be directly used to optimize facility environments from drivers’visual perception to decrease speeding-related crashes.展开更多
