This paper presents the findings of a two-week monitoring project on Gender Based Violence(GBV)in Tanzanian and explores how the media outlets frame the marginalized voices, institutional narratives, and intersectional inclusivity.Drawing qualitative approach and analysis of media coverage of GBV during the 202416 Days of Activism campaign remarkably November 25 to December 10,2024,it reveals the extent that media platforms amplify or marginalize survivor voices.Through two weeks of media monitoring across print, broadcast, and social media including sources notably Mwananchi,TBC1,Cloud FM,and advocacy-driven digital platforms and campaigns through#EndGBVNow and#16DaysOfActivism the study explores recurring themes, language use, tone, and inclusivity.Guided by critical gender theories including Judith Butler’s gender performativity and Gave Tuchman’s symbolic annihilation, the analysis reveals media’s dual role in either perpetuating or challenging patriarchal narratives.Findings indicate that traditional media often foreground prevailing institutional voices while underrepresenting marginalized groups, especially rural women and women with disabilities, portraying harmful cultural practices like FGM and child marriage as community challenges rather than universal human rights violation.Conversely, social media emerged as a transformative space for survivor-led advocacy.Hence the study calls for inclusive, ethical, and survivor-centered media reporting as well as strategic integration of digital and mainstream media to promote justice and policy reform in GBV reporting. 展开更多

Introduction: Access to the best quality of obstetrical care sometimes conceals acts and behaviors that fail to respect women’s physical, mental and social integrity. These negative experiences are referred to as obstetrical violence. The aim of this study is to contribute to improving the quality of maternal health care. Patient and Method: This was a cross-sectional study with a quantitative component carried out in the obstetrics and gynecology department of the Maman Elisabeth Domitien University Hospital from November 1 to 30, 2024. All women in childbed seen for postnatal consultations within 42 days of delivery were included. Results: We included 109 women. Age ranged from 16 to 44 years with a mean of 26.9 (±6.02). The majority of women were living in common-law unions with 79.8% and 57.8% of mothers having a secondary education level. More than half of the participants (52.9%) said that they had not been prepared for childbirth during prenatal follow-up and 44.0% had not freely chosen their path of delivery. The vaginal route was the most observed route of delivery (97.3%). Of all vaginal deliveries, episiotomy was performed in 21.7% and uterine revision in 66.0%. For episiotomies, 26.1% of women in childbed were informed about its performance and 87.0% had had a bad experience with this event. For women who had undergone a uterine revision, 52.9% had been informed of its performance and 77.1% had a bad experience with the event. Women in childbed had been victims of inappropriate acts and verbal aggression in 18.4% and 14.7% respectively. Of all the participants, 45.0% said they had experienced the birth episode badly. Conclusion: This study has given us an idea of the subject. However, a large-scale study will enable us to understand the different facets of this subject. 展开更多

Objective:Intimate partner violence(IPV)among people living with the human immune deficiency virus(PLHIV)poses a significant threat to efforts to reduce the spread of human immune deficiency virus(HIV)and achieve the sustainable development goals. In Ghana, scholarly research on the forms and prevalence of IPV is available, however knowledge of the prevalence of IPV among PLHIV is limited. To understand the prevalence of IPV among PLHIV and the intersectional factors that contribute to it,this study examined the overall prevalence of IPV among PLHIV and the associated sociodemographic factors across ten regions of Ghana. Methods:We administered face-to-face survey questionnaires to 661 randomly selected antiretroviral therapy(ART)clients using Research Electronic Data Capture tools. We used descriptive statistics(mean, standard deviation, minimum, and maximum),pairwise correlation, and multivariate regression analysis to look at the data. Results:The clients of ART experienced various forms of IPV,including sexual, physical, emotional, and economic violence and controlling behaviour. The overall prevalence of IPV among PLHIV was 27.5%.This result, although on par with the global IPV average(27%),is 1.5%higher than the national rate(26%).The Upper West Region had the highest prevalence in all the categories of IPV analysed, followed by Oti Region in second place and the Upper East Region in third, except for the prevalence of sexual violence, where Greater Accra Region ranks second. In specific regions of Ghana, sociodemographic factors shaped by patriarchal and economic considerations contribute to a higher prevalence of IPV among people living with HIV.Conclusion:The findings have implications for developing policies and interventions that address the specific factors associated with HIV-induced IPV in different regions of Ghana. These interventions should also include screening PLHIV receiving ART for their IPV status regardless of gender and deploying culturally appropriate education at the community level to foster empathy towards intimate partners living with HIV. 展开更多

Introduction: Gender-based violence is an important public health problem worldwide. The aim of this study was to describe the prevalence, the socio-demographic profile of patients (survivors and perpetrators) and the different types of gender-based violence treated at the Zinder holistic care centre in the Republic of Niger. Method: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study of cases of gender-based violence recorded and managed at the holistic gender-based violence management centre in Zinder (Niger) over the period from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2023. The data collected were analysed using EPI infos version 7.1 software. Result: During the study period, 515 cases of gender-based violence were recorded. Most of the victims were women and girls (95.15%). Minors accounted for 42.28% of cases. The victims were aged 18 and over in 57.67% (297 cases). Single people accounted for 39.22% of cases. Students accounted for 41.36% of cases. As regards the perpetrators of gender-based violence;men accounted for almost all the cases (95.53%). In 45.44% of cases it was the sexual partner, and in 36.12% of cases, the assault took place in the victim’s home. Five types of gender-based violence were observed: physical violence (121 cases, 23.5%), denial of resources, opportunities or services (148 cases, 28%), rape (117 cases, 22.7%), sexual abuse (64 cases, 12.4%), forced marriage (42 cases, 8%) and psychological/emotional abuse (28 cases, 5.4%). Conclusion: Gender-based violence is common in Niger. The victims were young women, pupils or students, single and unemployed. Efforts still need to be made to increase the reporting of cases of GBV, involve community leaders and provide optimal medical, legal and socio-professional care. 展开更多

This paper focuses on the characteristics of solutions of nonlinear oscillatory systems in the limit of very high oscillation energy, E;specifically, systems, in which the nonlinear driving force grows with energy much faster for x(t) close to the turning point, a(E), than at any position, x(t), that is not too close to a(E). This behavior dominates important aspects of the solutions. It will be called “nonlinear violence”. In the vicinity of a turning point, the solution of a nonlinear oscillatory systems that is affected by nonlinear violence exhibits the characteristics of boundary-layer behavior (independently of whether the equation of motion of the system can or cannot be cast in the traditional form of a boundary-layer problem.): close to a(E), x(t) varies very rapidly over a short time interval (which vanishes for E → ∞). In traditional boundary layer systems this would be called the “inner” solution. Outside this interval, x(t) soon evolves into a moderate profile (e.g. linear in time, or constant)—the “outer” solution. In (1 + 1)-dimensional nonlinear energy-conserving oscillators, if the solution is reflection-invariant, nonlinear violence determines the characteristics of the whole solution. For large families of nonlinear oscillatory systems, as E → ∞, the solutions for x(t) tend to common, indistinguishable profiles, such as periodic saw-tooth profiles or step-functions. If such profiles are observed experimentally in high-energy oscillations, it may be difficult to decipher the dynamical equations that govern the motion. The solution of motion in a central field with a non-zero angular momentum exhibits extremely fast rotation around a turning point that is affected by nonlinear violence. This provides an example for the possibility of interesting phenomena in (1 + 2)-dimensional oscillatory systems. 展开更多

It affects workers in all sectors of activity. The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence and factors associated with violence among primary and secondary school staff in Ouagadougou. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study that took place from April 22, 2020 to February 18, 2021 in primary and secondary schools in Ouagadougou. It focused on the educational staff of these establishments. Results: A total of 362 agents took part in the study. The average age of participants was 36.5 ± 6.89 years. The sex ratio was 1.62 men to one woman. The majority of workers were teachers, with 300 participants (82.87%). The average job tenure was 7 years ± 6.91 years. With regard to violence in the workplace, 87 workers were victims, representing a prevalence of 24.03%. Of these workers, 59 (67.81%) were men and 36 (41.38%) had less than six years’ experience. Acts of violence were predominantly pushing observed in 15 workers (50%), while shouting and aggressive tone dominated psychological violence and concerned 54 cases (36.24%). On univariate analysis, the factors associated with violence were age (p = 0.046) and type of establishment (p = 0.012). On multivariate analysis, only the nature of the establishment was the only factor associated with the occurrence of violence among teaching staff (OR = 2.3690, p = 0.0213). Conclusion: The prevalence of violence is high in these educational establishments. Age and type of establishment are factors associated with its occurrence. It is therefore necessary to develop an effective strategy for preventing this risk in the workplace. 展开更多

Objective: Sexual violence affects women of all ages but, more commonly, children and adolescents. This study aimed to identify the extent to which services are being provided at the hospitals responsible for the emergency care of children and adolescents who have suffered sexual violence and to determine whether there is any difference in the provision of such services as a function of the victim’s age. Method: This cross-sectional study investigated differences in the care received by female children and adolescents who are victims of sexual violence in a capital city, comparing the treatment given to girls under 15 with that given to adolescents of 15 to 19 years of age. The data were extracted from the State Department of Health database between 01/01/2012 and 31/12/2016. Results: Children under 15 were much less likely to receive prophylaxis against HIV, sexually transmitted infections and hepatitis B, with the number of adolescent girls treated adequately corresponding to between twice and almost three times the number of children treated prophylactically. Only 10% of girls under 15 received emergency contraception. Conclusion: The lack of standard care established by the Ministry of Health highlights the need for urgent debates both locally and probably throughout the country, as the situation may be similar in other regions of the country. 展开更多

This paper examines the role of sexual violence in Ian McEwan’s novel The Innocent and its relationship to the author’s examination of the boundary between the political and the personal. Contextualizing the protagonist Leonard Marnham’s violence against the heat of the geopolitical struggles of the Cold War, this study traces his transformation from an innocent technician to a violent agent of political and sexual aggression, and reads his attempted rape of his German lover, Maria, as a nexus between personal relationships and geopolitical struggles. It highlights how Leonard’s violence is a reflection of and at the same time a product of the postwar political landscape. By drawing on the body politic of sexual violence, it analyzes the feminized representation of Leonard, arguing that Leonard is both a perpetrator as well as a victim of the postwar political struggles. Hence the conclusion that sexual violence is employed by the author as a trope to dramatize the invasion of the political onto the personal, and the novel is a political novel that illustrates how the entanglement of international politics and private life can lead to a profound distortion of personal relationships, where the dynamics of power, dominance, and submission that define the public sphere can seep into and corrupt even the most intimate aspect of human interaction. 展开更多

Domestic violence is a serious threat to the basic human rights of family members, especially victimized women. In order to effectively prevent domestic violence, the criminal law needs to respond in an appropriate and timely manner. However, the traditional criminal governance model suffers from the problem of the lagging involvement of public power. At the same time, the public-private partnership governance model, based on the personal safety protection order system stipulated in the Anti-domestic Violence Law of the People's Republic of China,is also flawed in its institutional design and specific implementation. The criminal governance model for domestic violence should be guided by the view of positive criminal law,and the governance path should be furtheroptimized from two aspects:strengthening the foundation of the public-private cooperation governance model and deepeningthe criminal-civil interface. This will help to fully protect the legitimate rights and interests of victims of domestic violence. 展开更多

Background: Violence against women has become an international public health and human rights issue in recent decades. The violence suffered by sex workers is of little interest for research, yet it constitutes a major health and safety problem. We propose to assess the extent of the phenomenon of gender-based violence (GBV) among sex workers (SWs) in the city of Bangui in the CAR. Methodology: This is a descriptive cross-sectional epidemiological study covering the period from July to October 2021 carried out among SWs in Bangui, the capital of the CAR. Given that the SWs association had only 159 members in Bangui, an exhaustive sampling was retained. Were included in the study, any SW present during the data collection period and having given their written consent. The parameters studied were socio-demographic characteristics: age, sex, residence, level of education, marital status, and characteristics linked to violence: the notion of violence during their professional activity, the type of violence, the declaration and the declaration if necessary, the response and management of this violence. The data collected was analyzed using Epi info version 7 software. Results: Of the 159 SWs that counted the association, 108 had been included. The average age was 27.0 years with extremes of 14 and 46 years. The age groups of 25 to 34 years were the most represented (43.5%). Fifty-six SWs (51.9%) had reached the secondary level. Unemployed SWs were in the majority at 74.1%;Sixty-six (66) SWs in our sample (61.1%) had already been victims of violence during the exercise of their activity Sexual violence was the most represented (28.5%) followed by verbal violence (22.4%). Sixty-eight (62.9%) wanted to stop the professional activity of SWs and 93.1% would accept another income-generating activity in place of sex work. Conclusion: It is necessary to supervise SWs and protect them within the framework of respect for human rights, rather than criminalizing them and the exploiters flouting their human dignity and putting their lives in danger. . 展开更多

This paper presents the development and evaluation of the Domestic Abuse and Violence Support System(DAVSS),a mobile application designed to address domestic violence issues in Malaysia.DAVSS integrates the essential 27-DASH(Danger Assessment for Separation and Harassment)questionnaire to assess the severity of domestic violence situations. The project follows the phased approach of the Waterfall Model, encompassing requirements, analysis, design, development, and testing stages.Usability testing was conducted to evaluate the DAVSS application, revealing overall user satisfaction. However, this assessment relied primarily on frequency analysis, prompting consideration for enhanced reliability through alternative measurement methods such as median and standard deviation approaches. The DAVSS application’s Danger Assessment Test(DAT)algorithm, built upon the 27-DASH questions, represents a significant aspect of the system.Future work includes the validation of this rule-based algorithm using expert evaluation, potentially through Delphi techniques.Given the absence of dedicated domestic abuse mobile applications in Malaysia,DAVSS promises several advantages. It empowers victims to report incidents, locate shelters for protection, and facilitates shelter access through QR code integration. In conclusion,as domestic violence remains a pressing concern requiring increased support, the DAVSS mobile application emerges as a vital system that offers assistance to victims while breaking down barriers that may silence their voices. 展开更多

In the research of video-based violent behavior detection, the motion information in the video is vital for violence detection. How to highlight motion information in videos and integrate spatiotemporal information is an urgent problem that needs to be solved in violence detection. In this paper,we propose a deep learning architecture that integrates shallow features into deep features to strengthen the network's ability to express motion information at a deep level. To enhance the weight of motion information in the network,we design a downsampling module to extract shallow features, fused with the deep features extracted by MobileNet's Blocks.Furthermore we constructed a channel attention module and introduced a Convolutional Long Short-Term Memory(ConvLSTM)module. These two modules aim to redistribute network attention:the channel attention module focuses on channel-level information and the ConvLSTM module emphasizes temporal aspects. Finally,we employ 3D convolution and global pooling to compress the feature sizes, fed into fully connected layers to perform violence detection.Experiments are conducted on three publicly available standard datasets, achieving an accuracy rate of 91%on the surveillance video dataset RWF2000,97.5%on the Hockey fight dataset, and 100%on the movies dataset.Overall, the proposed model demonstrates satisfactory performance in violence detection. 展开更多

The risk of verbal and physical aggression towards healthcare workers is especially higher in psychiatry emergency settings. Public safety assistants are integral members of the psychiatry emergency department, who are frequently first responders to those with mental health issues. There is limited evidence discussing the patient-led workplace violence faced by public safety assistants. The purpose of this project is to explore the prevalence of physical and verbal patient-led violence faced by Public Safety Assistants (PSAs) working in psychiatry emergency settings and explore the impact of basic behavioral health education on PSAs in reducing patient-led workplace violence. 展开更多

Violence against university students and among them is analyzed on campus and the household as well as the relationships of violence between these two social spaces. The study was undertaken through an anonymous random survey in the two larger public universities in a Mexican medium-sized city.Overall violence and types of violence-verbal,psychological,sexual,and physical-were evaluated by sex and by universities;and the aggressors were identified.A students’concept of violence was built, considering causes of intimate-partner violence, violence in general and ethical judgment on gender violence. Finally,it was measured the relationships between violence on campus and in the household using bivariate statistical analysis.Findings indicate the main aggressors on campus are classmates and professors, whereas in the household are the mother, relatives together with the parents and relatives without the parents.On-campus,there were found statistically significant associations between professors-aggressors and students as victims of violence by sex.In the household, the bivariate analysis confirmed mothers as single aggressors and fathers exerting violence together with relatives against student-children;and direct relationships between on-campus(psychological and sexual violence)and domestic(physical and sexual violence). 展开更多
