The vibration response and noise caused by subway trains can affect the safety and comfort of superstructures. To study the dynamic response characteristics of subway stations and superstructures under train loads with a hard combination,a numerical model is developed in this study. The indoor model test verified the accuracy of the numerical model. The influence laws of different hard combinations, train operating speeds and modes were studied and evaluated accordingly. The results show that the frequency corresponding to the peak vibration acceleration level of each floor of the superstructure property is concentrated at 10–20 Hz.The vibration response decreases in the high-frequency parts and increases in the lowfrequency parts with increasing distance from the source.Furthermore, the factors, such as train operating speed, operating mode, and hard combination type, will affect the vibration of the superstructure. The vibration response under the reversible operation of the train is greater than that of the unidirectional operation. The operating speed of the train is proportional to its vibration response. The vibration amplification area appears between the middle and the top of the superstructure at a higher train speed. Its vibration acceleration level will exceed the limit value of relevant regulations, and vibration-damping measures are required.Within the scope of application, this study provides some suggestions for constructing subway stations and superstructures. 展开更多

Disk-drum structures jointed by bolted flanges(DDSJBFs)are core parts in aircraft engines, whose dynamic responses affect structural overall safety and service performance. However, studies on the dynamic response of DDSJBFs under base excitation are not found in available literature. In the present work, the dynamic responses for DDSJBFs subjected to base excitation are investigated both theoretically and experimentally. The kinetic energy and potential energy of disk, drum, and flange are derived according to the Kirchhoff plate, the Sanders’shell, and the Euler-Bernoulli beam theories, respectively, where the influences of flange and the mass of bolt are taken into account. The artificial spring method is applied to model the bolted joint. The Chebyshev orthogonal polynomials are adopted as the admissible functions of disk and drum, and the Lagrange equations are used to obtain the motion equation. The motion equation is solved by using the Newmark-beta approach and the dynamic responses under base excitation are acquired.A series of experiment studies are conducted on a DDSJBF to demonstrate the correctness of established theoretical model. Finally, study results show that because the relative motion between bolted flange joint interfaces generates friction damping, increasing the excitation amplitude causes the increase of damping ratio of DDSJBFs on the whole, and the increase of resonant peak value exhibits a slowing trend. The above phenomenon becomes more evident when the number of bolt is less. With the increase of bolt mass and flange size, the resonant frequency significantly decreases, while the resonant peak value remains unchanged. 展开更多

This paper addresses the problem of a viscoelastic Euler-Bernoulli beam under the influence of a constant velocity moving mass and different types of appendages.Four types of boundary conditions are considered:pinned-pinned,fixed-pinned,fixed-free(or cantilever),and fixed-fixed.Appendages considered include lumped masses, dampers, and springs. The modal decomposition method is employed to derive the equation of motion of the beam, for which an analytical closed-form expression of the dynamic vibration response is generated. The proposed method enables the study of the effect of a single appendage or a combination of the three types of appendages on the non-dimensional dynamic response of the beam.Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the effects of these appendages and compare them to the reference cases of a beam with no appendages. The results demonstrate the importance of considering these parameters in the design of structures. The proposed method is compared to other techniques in the literature and found to be advantageous due to its direct approach. The method also offers a versatile tool for investigating various configurations, aiding in engineering design and structural analysis for which establishing a precise prediction of beam vibrations is crucial. 展开更多

Rolling bearing and Squeeze Film Damper(SFD)are used in rotor support structures, and most researches on the nonlinear rotor-bearing system are focused on the simple rotor-bearing systems. This work emphasizes the comparative analysis of the influence of SFD on the nonlinear dynamic behavior of the dual-rotor system supported by rolling bearings.Firstly,a reduced dynamic model is established by combining the Finite Element(FE)method and the freeinterface method of component mode synthesis. The proposed model is verified by comparing the natural characteristics obtained from an FE model with those from the experiment. Then, the steady-state vibration responses of the system with or without SFD are solved by the numerical integration method. The influences of the ball bearing clearance, unbalance, centralizing spring stiffness and oil film clearance of SFD on the nonlinear steady-state vibration responses of the dual-rotor system are analyzed. Results show that SFD can effectively suppress the amplitude jump of the dual rotor system sustaining two rotors unbalance excitations. As the ball bearing clearance or unbalance increases, the amplitude jump phenomenon becomes more obvious, the resonance hysteresis phenomenon strengthens or weakens, the resonant peaks shift to the left or the right, respectively.SFD with unreasonable parameters will aggravate the system vibration, the smaller the oil film clearance, the better the damping performance of the SFD,the larger the centralizing spring stiffness is,the larger resonance amplitudes are. 展开更多

The wind pressure distribution and wind-induced vibration responses of long-span spatial groined latticed vaults (SGLVs) were numerically simulated, which always are ones of the most important problems in the structural wind resistance design. Incompressible visco-fluid model was introduced, and the standard k - two equation model and semi-implicit method for pressure linked equation (SIMPLE) were used to describe the flow turbulence. Furthermore, the structural dynamic equation was set up, which is solved by Newmark-fl method. And several sort of wind-induced vibration coefficients such as the wind-induced vibration coefficient corresponding to the nodal displacement responses and wind loads were suggested. In the numerical simulation where the SGLV consisting of the cylindrical sectors with different curved surface was chosen as the example, the influence on the relative wind pressure distribution and structural wind-induced vibration responses of the closed or open SGLV caused by such parameters as the number of cylindrical sectors, structural curvature and the ratio of rise to span was investigated. Finally, some useful conclusions on the local wind pressure distribution on the structural surface and the wind-induced vibration coefficients of SGLV were developed. 展开更多

Many important vibration phenomena which simultaneously contain quadratic nonlinear stiffness and damping exist in the complicated vibrating systems under practical circumstances. In this paper, we established a 2-degree-of-freedom (DOF) nonlinear vibration model for such a system, deduced the differential equations of motion which govern its dynamics, and worked out the solutions for the governing equations by the principle of superposition of nonlinear normal modes (NLNM) based on Shaw’s theory of invariant manifolds. We conducted numerical simulations with the established model, using superposition of nonlinear normal modes and direct numerical methods, respectively. The obtained results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method in that its calculated data varies in a similar tendency to that of the direct numerical solutions. 展开更多

Components of mechanical product are assembled by structural joints, such as bolting, riveting, welding, etc.Structural joints introduce nonlinearity to some engineering structures, and the nonlinearity need to be modeled precisely. To meet serious quality requirements,it is necessary to detect and identify nonlinearity of mechanical products for structural optimization.Modal test to acquire a dynamic response has been applied for decades, which provides reliable results for finite element(FE)model updating. Here response control vibration test for identification of nonlinearity is presented.A nonlinear system can be regarded as linearity for particular steady state response, and classical linear analysis tool is applicable to extract modal data for particular response.First, its applicability is illustrated by some numerical simulations.Subsequently,it is implemented on experimental setup with structural joints by shaking table. The stiffness and damping function dependent of relative displacement are fitted to describe its inherent nonlinearity. The spring and damping forces are identified by harmonic balance method(HBM)to predict output response.Based on the identified results, the procedure is recommended that it allows a reliable measurement of nonlinearity with a certain accuracy. 展开更多

Laboratory tests were conducted on a flexible riser with and without helical strakes. The aim of the present work is to further understand the response performance of the vortex induced vibration(VIV) for a riser with helical strakes. The experiment was accomplished in the towing tank and the relative current was simulated by towing a flexible riser in one direction. Based on the modal analysis method, the displacement responses can be obtained by the measured strain. The strakes with different heights are analyzed here, and the response parameters like strain response and displacement response are studied. The experimental results show that the in-line(IL) response is as important as the cross-flow(CF) response, however, many industrial analysis methods usually ignore the IL response due to VIV. The results also indicate that the response characteristics of a bare riser can be quite distinct from that of a riser with helical strakes, and the response performance depends on the geometry on the helical strakes closely. The fatigue damage is further discussed and the results show that the fatigue damage in the CF direction is of the same order as that in the IL direction for the bare riser. However, for the riser with helical strakes, the fatigue damage in the CF direction is much smaller than that in the IL direction. 展开更多

Meanwhile, it is also a negative factor for fatigue strength. Satisfying the fatigue strength is the primary prerequisite for heat transfer enhancement. This paper numerically studied the flow?induced vibration of planar elastic tube bundle based on a two?way fluid–structure interaction(FSI) calculation. The numerical calculation involved the unsteady, three?dimensional incompressible governing equations solved with finite volume approach and the dynamic balance equation of planar elastic tube bundle solved with finite element method combined with dynamic mesh scheme. The numerical approach was verified by comparing with the published experimental results. Then the vibration trajectory, deformation and stress contour of planar elastic tube bundle were all studied. Results show that the combined movement of planar elastic tube bundle represents the agitation from inside to outside. The vibration of out?of?plane is the main vibration form with the typically sinusoidal behavior because the magnitude of displacement along the out?of?plane direction is the 100 times than the value of in?plane direction. The dangerous point locates in the innermost tube where the equivalent stress can be utilized to study the multiaxial fatigue of planar elastic tube bundle due to the alternating stress concentration. In the velocity range of 0.2-3 m/s, it is inferred that the vibration amplitude plays a role on the stress response and the stress amplitude is susceptible to the fluid velocity. This research paves a way for studying the fatigue strength of planar elastic tube bundle by flow?induced vibration. 展开更多

Useful structure characteristics of elastic cylindrical shells have led them to being widely applied in virtual projects,so it is important to conduct vibration research on the shells and find it’s a simpler corresponding compact calculation method. Utilising the input and transfer point mobility of a thin plate structure, a theoretical expression of the cylindrical shell’s bending vibration responsewas deduced and numerical simulations were done to simplify the theoretical expression within an acceptable error margin, greatly reducing the amount of computations. Furthermore, whole vibration response distributions of the cylindrical shell were analyzed. It was found thathe vibration energy propagates in helical form under mono-frequency excitation, while under bandwidth frequency excitation, it attenuates around in term of fluctuation. The axial attenuation rate of the vibration energy is larger than the circumferential attenuation rate. 展开更多

This study presents a numerical method based on the surface temperature data and the ground temperature increase in Daqing for predicting temperature field distribution in the Binzhou Railway subgrade and analyzing the temporal and spatial distribution of freeze−thaw status of railway subgrade. The calibrated numerical method is applied to simulate the temperature field distribution and roadbed vibrational response of the railway subgrade with a thermal insulation layer at different seasons. The results show the following:(1)The thermal insulation layer can remarkably increase the soil temperature below it and maximum frost depth in the subgrade.(2)Thermal insulation can effectively reduce the subgrade vibration and protect it from frost damage.(3)Given that the strength requirements are met,the insulation layer should be buried as shallow as possible to effectively reduce the subgrade vibration response. The research findings provide theoretical support for the frost damage prevention of railway subgrades in seasonally frozen regions. 展开更多

In this study,a comprehensive rolling mill vibration test program was designed, including specific test conditions and a test system. The analysis of measured signals reveals the vibration response characteristics and their evolution at different gauge points in the finishing mill. This is particularly evident during abnormal rolling, where the signals highlight the characteristics of abnormal responses and vibration intensities.Abnormal vibrations during the rolling process mainly occur when the strip thickness is less than 2.5 mm,and at the rolling speed-up stage, the strong abnormal vibration occurs at each measuring point on the F2 transmission side. The maximum vibration intensity of the backup roll’s bearing seat is 17 mm/s.As the rolling progresses, the stress on the bolts changes. The strip thickness is negatively correlated with the peak values of bite and tail-flick impacts. The vibration characteristics vary with the strip thickness and the process state. 展开更多

The position deviation of the underwater manipulator generated by vortex-induced vibration(VIV)in the shear flow increases relative to that in the uniform flow. Thus, this study established an experimental platform to investigate the vibration characteristics of the underwater manipulator under shear flow. The vibration response along the manipulator was obtained and compared with that in the uniform flow. Results indicated that the velocity, test height, and flow field were the main factors affecting the VIV of the underwater manipulator. With the increase in the reduced velocity(U_(r)),the dimensionless amplitudes increased rapidly in the in-line(IL)direction with a maximum of 0.13D.The vibration responses in the cross-flow(CF)and IL directions were concentrated at positions 2,3 and positions 1,2,with peak values of 0.46 and 0.54 mm under U_(r)=1.54,respectively.In addition, the vibration frequency increased with the reduction of velocity. The dimensionless dominant frequency in the CF and IL directions varied from 0.39-0.80 and 0.35-0.64,respectively.Moreover,the ratio of the CF and IL directions was close to 1 at a lower U_(r).The standard deviation of displacement initially increased and then decreased as the height of the test location increased. The single peak value of the standard deviation showed that VIV presented a single mode.Compared with the uniform flow, the maximum and average values of VIV displacement increased by 104%and 110%under the shear flow, respectively. 展开更多

Virtual coupling(VC) is an emerging technology for addressing the shortage of rail transportation capacity. As a crucial enabling technology, the VC-specific acquisition of train information, especially train following distance(TFD), is underdeveloped. In this paper, a novel method is proposed to acquire real-time TFD by analyzing the vibration response of the front and following trains, during which only onboard accelerometers and speedometers are required. In contrast to the traditional arts of train positioning, this method targets a relative position between two adjacent trains in VC operation, rather than the global positions of the trains. For this purpose, an adaptive system containing three strategies is designed to cope with possible adverse factors in train operation. A vehicle dynamics simulation of a heavy-haul railway is implemented for the evaluation of feasibility and performance. Furthermore, a validation is conducted using a set of data measured from in-service Chinese high-speed trains. The results indicate the method achieves satisfactory estimation accuracy using both simulated and actual data. It has favorable adaptability to various uncertainties possibly encountered in train operation. Additionally, the method is preliminarily proven to adapt to different locomotive types and even different rail transportation modes. In general, such a method with good performance, low-cost, and easy implementation is promising to apply. 展开更多

This paper studies the vibration responses of porous functionally graded(FG)thin plates with four various types of porous distribution based on the physical neutral plane by employing the peridynamic differential operator(PDDO).It is assumed that density and elastic modulus continuously vary along the transverse direction following the power law distribution for porous FG plates. The governing differential equation of free vibration for a porous rectangular FG plate and its associated boundary conditions are expressed by a Lévy-type solution based on nonlinear von Karman plate theory.Dimensionless frequencies and mode shapes are obtained after solving the characteristic equations established by PDDO.The results of the current method are validated through comparison with existing literature. The effects of geometric parameters, material properties, elastic foundation, porosity distribution, and boundary conditions on the frequency are investigated and discussed in detail. The highest fundamental dimensionless frequency occurs under SCSC boundary conditions, while the lowest is under SFSF boundary conditions. The porous FG plate with the fourth pore type, featuring high density of porosity at the top and low at the bottom, exhibits the highest fundamental frequency under SSSS,SFSF,and SCSC boundary conditions. The dimensionless frequency increases with an increase in the elastic foundation stiffness coefficient. 展开更多

In this paper, the isogeometric analysis(IGA)method is employed to analyze the oscillation characteristics of functionally graded triply periodic minimal surface(FG-TPMS)curved-doubly shells integrated with magneto-electric surface layers(referred to as"FG-TPMS-MEE curved-doubly shells")subjected to low-velocity impact loads. This study presents low-velocity impact load model based on a single springmass(S-M)approach.The FG-TPMS-MEE curved-doubly shells are covered with two magneto-electric surface layers, while the core layer consists of three types:I-graph and Wrapped Package-graph(IWP),Gyroid(G),and Primitive(P),with various graded functions. These types are notable for their exceptional stiffness-to-weight ratios, enabling a wide range of potential applications. The Maxwell equations and electromagnetic boundary conditions are applied to compute the change in electric potentials and magnetic potentials. The equilibrium equations of the shell are derived from a refined higher-order shear deformation theory(HSDT),and the transient responses of the FG-TPMS-MEE curveddoubly shells are subsequently determined using Newmark's direct integration method. These results have applications in structural vibration control and the analysis of structures subjected to impact or explosive loads.Furthermore, this study provides a theoretical prediction of the low-velocity impact load and magneto-electric-elastic effects on the free vibration and transient response of FG-TPMS-MEE curved-doubly shells. 展开更多

This paper aims to gain insight into the nonlinear modal characteristics and the possible influence of the modes on the responses for the practical dual-rotor system with rub-impact in aero-engine.The finite solid element method combined with a constraint stiffness model produced by rub-impact is introduced to build the governing equation of the complicated nonlinear dual-rotor system. In order to deal with the efficiency and numerical divergence in the process of solving the nonlinear modes of this large-scale nonlinear system,an analysis strategy is proposed by integrating a two-layer reduction technique into the harmonic balance method. The effectiveness of the analysis strategy is validated by applying to a simple rotor system, which can easily obtain the theoretical result.Based on the modeling method and analysis strategy, the modal characteristics of an aero-engine dual-rotor system with rub-impact are revealed. The results show that the modal frequency of the dual-rotor system increases when rub-impact occurs and has the feature of interval, which allows us to obtain the critical speeds of the rubbing system by traditional Campbell diagram. The rotation direction is an important factor since it can not only affect the gyroscopic effect but also change the friction effect of the rub-impact.It is found that the modal frequencies of the counter-rotation dual-rotor are less than those of co-rotation condition.More importantly, the forward modes of the counter-rotation dual-rotor may be instable when rub-impact occurs at a certain rotor, while the corresponding modes under the co-rotation condition are always stable.Furthermore,by analyzing the rubbing response of the dual-rotor,it is found that the modal characteristics have an important influence on rotor’s response. The instable forward modes existing in the counter-rotation dual-rotor may lead to the divergence of the response when passing the corresponding critical speed. 展开更多

This study deals with the nonlinear dynamic response of deep-sea risers subjected to parametric excitation at the top of a platform. As offshore oil and gas exploration is pushed into deep waters, difficulties encountered in deep-sea riser design may be attributed to the existence of parametric instability regarding platform heave motions. Parametric resonance in risers can cause serious damage which might bring disastrous accidents such as environment pollution, property losses and even fatalities. Therefore, the paranletric instability analysis should attract more attention during the design process of deep-sea risers. In this work, an equation of motion for a deep-sea riser is derived firstly. The motion equation is analyzed by the Floquet theory which allows the determination of both system response and stability properties. The unstable regions in which parametric resonance easily occurs can be determined. The effects of damping on parametric instability are also investigated, and the stability maps are presented. The results demonstrate that the available damping is vital in suppressing the instability regions. The suggestions for reduction of instability regions are proposed in deep-sea riser design. 展开更多
