Exploitation technology of pressure relief coalbed methane in vertical surface wells is a new method for exploration of gas and coalbed methane exploitation in mining areas with high concentrations of gas, where tectonic coal developed. Studies on vertical surface well technology in the Huainan Coal Mining area play a role in demonstration in the use of clean, new energy resources, preventing and reducing coal mine gas accidents and protecting the environment. Based on the practice of gas drainage engineering of pressure relief coalbed methane in vertical surface wells and combined with relative geological and exploration en- gineering theories, the design principles of design and structure of wells of pressure relief coalbed methane in vertical surface wells are studied. The effects of extraction and their causes are discussed and the impact of geological conditions on gas production of the vertical surface wells are analyzed. The results indicate that in mining areas with high concentrations of gas, where tectonic coal developed, a success rate of pressure relief coalbed methane in surface vertical well is high and single well production usually great. But deformation due to coal exploitation could damage boreholes and cause breaks in the connection between aquifers and bore-holes, which could induce a decrease, even a complete halt in gas production of a single well. The design of well site location and wellbore configuration are the key for technology. The development of the geological conditions for coalbed methane have a significant effect on gas production of coalbed methane wells. 展开更多

As the basis of flight behavior,the initiation process of insect flight is accompanied by a transition from crawling mode to flight mode,and is clearly important and complex.Insects take flight from a vertical surface,which is more difficult than takeoff from a horizontal plane,but greatly expands the space of activity and provides us with an excellent bionic model.In this study,the entire process of a butterfly alighting from a vertical surface was captured by a high-speed camera system,and the movements of its body and wings were accurately measured for the first time.After analyzing the movement of the center of mass,it was found that before initiation,the acceleration perpendicular to the wall was much greater than the acceleration parallel to the wall,reflecting the positive effects of the legs during the initiation process.However,the angular velocity of the body showed that this process was unstable,and was further destabilized as the flight speed increased.Comparing the angles between the body and the vertical direction before and after leaving the wall,a significant change in body posture was found,evidencing the action of aerodynamic forces on the body.The movement of the wings was further analyzed to obtain the laws of the three Euler angles,thus revealing the locomotory mechanism of the butterfly taking off from the vertical surface. 展开更多

Perovskite semiconductors show great promise as gain media for all-solution-processed single-mode microlasers.However,despite the recent efforts to improve their lasing performance,achieving tunable single-mode microlasers remains challenging.In this work,we address this challenge by demonstrating a tunable vertical cavity surface emitting laser(VCSEL)employing a tunable gain medium of halide phase-change perovskites-specifically MAPbI_(3) perovskite,sandwiched between two highly reflective mirrors composed of bottom-distributed Bragg reflectors(DBRs).This VCSEL possesses single-mode lasing emission with a low threshold of 23.5μJ cm^(−2) under 160 K,attributed to strong optical confinement in the high-quality(Q)cavity.Upon the phase change of MAPbI_(3) perovskite,both its gain and dielectric constant changes dramatically,enabling a wide(Δλ>9 nm)and temperature-sensitive(0.30 nm K^(−1) rate)spectral tunability of lasing mode in the near-infrared(N-IR)region.The laser displays excellent stability,demonstrating an 80%lifetime of>2.4×107 pulses excitation.Our findings may provide a versatile platform for the next generation of tunable coherent light sources. 展开更多

Room temperature low threshold lasing of green GaNbased vertical cavity surface emitting laser(VCSEL)was demonstrated under continuous wave(CW)operation.By using self-formed InGaN quantum dots(QDs)as the active region,the VCSEL emitting at 524.0 nm has a threshold current density of 51.97 A cm^(-2),the lowest ever reported.The QD epitaxial wafer featured with a high IQE of 69.94%and theδ-function-like density of states plays an important role in achieving low threshold current.Besides,a short cavity of the device(~4.0λ)is vital to enhance the spontaneous emission coupling factor to 0.094,increase the gain coefficient factor,and decrease the optical loss.To improve heat dissipation,AlN layer was used as the current confinement layer and electroplated copper plate was used to replace metal bonding.The results provide important guidance to achieving high performance GaN-based VCSELs. 展开更多

A three-dimensional electrical-thermal coupling model based on the finite element method is applied to study thermal properties of implant-defined vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) arrays. Several parameters including inter-element spacing, scales, injected current density and substrate temperature are considered. The actual temperatures obtained through experiment are in excellent agreement with the calculated results, which proves the accuracy of the model. Due to the serious thermal problem, it is essential to design arrays of low self-heating. The analysis can provide a foundation for designing VCSEL arrays in the future. 展开更多

Far-field properties dependent on array scale, separation, element width and emitted wavelength are system atically analyzed theoretically and experimentally. An array model based on the finite-difference method is established to simulate the far-field profile of the coherent arrays. Some important conclusions are obtained. To achieve a higher quality beam, it is necessary to decrease separation between elements, or to increase the element width. Higher brightness can be achieved in the array with larger scale. Emitted wavelength also has an influence on the far-field profile. These analyses can be extended to the future design of coherent vertical cavity surface emitting laser arrays. 展开更多

It is important to determine quantitatively the internal carrier loss arising from heating and barrier height variation in a vertical-cavity surface-emitting quantum well laser (VCSEL). However, it is generally difficult to realize this goal using purely theoretical formulas due to difficulty h, deriving the parameters relat^i~g to the quantum well structure. In this paper, we describe an efl:icient approach to characterizing and calculating the carrier loss due to the heating and the barrier height change in the VCSEL. In the method, the thermal carrier loss mechanism is combined with gain measurement and calculation. The carrier loss is re-characterized in a calculable form by constructing the threshold current and gain detuning-related loss current using the measured gain data and then substituting them for the quantum well-related parameters in the formula. The result can be expressed as a product of an exponential weight factor linked to the barrier height change and the difference between the threshold current and gain detuning-related loss current. The gain variation at cavity frequency due to thermal carrier loss and gain detuning processes is measured by using an AllnGaAs-AIGaAs VCSEL structure. This work provides a useful approach to analysing threshold and loss properties of the VCSEL, particularly, gain offset design for high temperature operation of VCSELs. 展开更多

Beam steering in implant defined coherently coupled vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) arrays is simulated using the FDTD solution software. Angular deflection dependent on relative phase differences among elements, inter-element spacing, element size and emitted wavelength is analyzed detailedly and systematically. We design and fabricate 1×2 implant defined VCSEL arrays for optimum beam steering performance. Electroni- cally controlled beam steering with a maximum deflection angle of 1.6° is successfully achieved in the 1 × 2 VCSEL arrays. The percentage of the power in the central lobe is above 39% when steering. The results show that the steering is controllable. Compared with other beam steering methods, the fabrication process is simple and of low cost. 展开更多

In this work, the characteristics of the photonic crystal tunneling injection quantum dot vertical cavity surface emitting lasers(Ph C-TIQD-VCSEL) are studied through analyzing a modified modulation transfer function. The function is based on the rate equations describing the carrier dynamics at different energy levels of dot and injector well. Although the frequency modulation response component associated with carrier dynamics in wetting layer(WL) and at excited state(ES) levels of dots limits the total bandwidth in conventional QD-VCSEL, our study shows that it can be compensated for by electron tunneling from the injector well into the dot in TIQD structure. Carrier back tunneling time is one of the most important parameters, and by increment of that, the bias current dependence of the total bandwidth will be insignificant. It is proved that at high bias current, the limitation of the WL-ES level plays an important role in reducing the total bandwidth and results in rollovers on 3-d B bandwidth-I curves. In such a way, for smaller air hole diameter of photonic crystal, the effect of this reduction is stronger. 展开更多

The recent development in Lucknow shows that the amount of built mass may increase significantly soon,which may affect outdoor thermal comfort.This study aims to achieve a better alternative to the geometrical configuration of vertical surfaces that helps improve the outdoor thermal comfort level.The study primarily deals with the exploration of built forms by altering the planar forms,heights,and orientations to arrive at a better composition of vertical surfaces.144 typologies were finally generated,which were then simulated in ENVI-met.The results show that,with the I-shaped typology it is difficult to reduce solar access,whereas in terms of ventilation,the typology performed better than L-shaped and C-shaped typologies.For this reason,the hours of solar access,as well as wind speed,should be seen together while developing the built-form typology.Urban neighborhoods can be designed with streets and open spaces oriented primarily to northeast-southwest and northwest-southeast directions which allow the open spaces to be thermally more comfortable than the rest of the orientation.This research highlights the importance of varying building heights to enhance thermal comfort.The findings provide valuable insights for composite climate cities like lucknow and can serve as a framework for future design strategies aimed at mitigating outdoor thermal discomfort.It is therefore important for planners,urban designers,and architects to design considering the minimal impact of the upcoming development on the thermal comfort level. 展开更多

During the daytime,conventional radiative coolers disregard the directionality of thermal radiation,thereby overlooking the upward radiation from the ground.This upward radiation enhances the outward thermal radiation,leading to a substantial reduction in the subambient daytime radiative cooling performance.Conversely,radiative coolers featuring angular asymmetry and spectral selectivity effectively resolve the problem of thermal radiation directionality,successfully evading the interference caused by the ground-generated thermal radiation.This cooler overcomes the limitations posed by the angle of incident light,making it suitable for subambient daytime radiative cooling of vertical surfaces.Furthermore,by adjusting the structure of the cooler,the angular range of thermal radiation can be modulated,enabling the application of radiative cooling technology for intelligent temperature regulation of various inclined surfaces encountered in daily life.This innovative work makes a significant contribution to the development of subambient smart thermal interaction systems and opens up new possibilities for the practical application of radiative cooling. 展开更多

Noise reduction and periodic signal extraction for GNSS height data in the study of vertical deformation

Global navigation satellite system(GNSS)technique has irreplaceable advantages in the continuous monitoring of surface deformation.Reducing noise to improve the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)and extract the concerned signals is of great significance.As an improved algorithm of empirical mode decomposition(EMD),complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise(CEEMDAN)algorithm has better signal processing ability.Using the CEEMDAN algorithm,the height time series of 29GNSS stations in Chinese mainland were analyzed,and good denoising effects and extraction from periodic signals were achieved.The numerical results showed that the annual signal obtained with the CEEMDAN algorithm was significantly based on Lomb_Scargle spectrum analysis,and large differences in the long-term signals were found between the stations at different locations in Chinese mainland.With respect to data denoising,compared with the EMD and wavelet denoising algorithms,the CEEMDAN algorithm respectively improved the SNR by 29.35% and 36.54%,increased the correlation coefficient by 8.67% and 11.96%,and reduced root mean square error(RMSE)by 44.68% and 43.48%,indicating that the CEEMDAN algorithm had better denoising behavior than the other two algorithms.In addition,the results demonstrated that different denoising methods had little influence on estimating the annual vertical deformation velocity.The extraction of periodic signals showed that more components were retained by using the CEEMDAN algorithm than the EMD algorithm,which indicated that the CEEMDAN algorithm had advantages over frequency aliasing.In conclusion,the CEEMDAN algorithm was recommended for processing the GNSS height time series to analyze the vertical deformation due to its excellent features of denoising and the extraction of periodic signals. 展开更多

1064 nm semiconductor lasers are crucial for optical communication,but the multitransverse‐mode nature of vertical‐cavity surface‐emitting laser(VCSEL)degrades beam quality over long distances.Traditional methods t... 1064 nm semiconductor lasers are crucial for optical communication,but the multitransverse‐mode nature of vertical‐cavity surface‐emitting laser(VCSEL)degrades beam quality over long distances.Traditional methods to achieve fundamental transverse mode often limit power output and modulation band-width.We propose a two‐junction 1064 nm VCSEL with double embedded antiresonant oxide islands embedded in the top distributed Bragg reflector(DBR).By varying the oxide island count,aperture size,and position,we explore the behaviors of threshold current and output power for different transverse modes.This simulation‐based design achieves a maximum funda-mental transverse mode output power of 36.2 mW,a power conversion effi-ciency of 54.8%,and a 3 dB bandwidth of 33.06 GHz using oxide islands with 4 and 6μm radii at the second and eighth pairs of the top DBR.The enhanced modal discrimination raises the threshold current for higher‐order modes,thereby improving the fundamental mode output power,making this VCSEL structure promising for long‐distance optical communication. 展开更多

The potential energy surfaces for butanone isomerization have been investigated by density function theory calculation. Six main reaction pathways are confirmed using the intrinsic reaction coordinate method, and the corresponding isomerization products are 1-buten-2-ol, 2-buten-2-ol, butanal or 1-buten-l-ol, methyl 1-propenyl ether, methyl allyl ether, and ethyl vinyl ether, respectively. Among them, there are three pathways through butylene oxide, indicating butylene oxide is an important intermediate product during butanone isomer ization. The calculated vertical ionization energies of the reactant and its products are in a good agreement with the experimental values available. From the consideration for the relative energies Of transition states and the number of high-energy barriers we infer that the reaction pathway butanone-*l-buten-2-ol---2-buten-2-oi is the most competitive. The obtained results are informative for future studies on isomerization of ketone molecules. 展开更多

Measurements of surface O3 and carbon monoxide(CO) were made from September 2009 to August 2011 at Dangxiong(30.48°N, 91.10°E, 4187 m a.s.l.), a remote highland site in a southern valley of the Nyainqêntanglha Mountains in the Tibetan Plateau, China. The monthly mean O3 mixing ratio ranged from 29.1 to 51.4 ppb, with an average of 38.5 ppb, and the maximum value was observed in May. The average diurnal cycle of O3 concentration showed a minimum in early morning and a maximum in the afternoon, with a broader "high platform" from the late morning to the late afternoon, and resembled that of surface wind speed. The concentration of surface O3 was highly significantly correlated with tropospheric column O3 over the regions surrounding Dangxiong and with that of surface O3 observed at a site north of the Nyainqêntanglha Mountains, suggesting a good regional representativeness of surface O3 at Dangxiong. In the afternoon when stronger winds blew, surface air showed distinct features of free-atmospheric air, with higher O3, lower CO, and lower relative humidity(RH). The negative O3-CO and O3-RH correlations in most months indicate a significant influence of air masses from the free troposphere. Trajectory analysis suggests that air masses originating from the south of the site make a negative net contribution to surface O3 and a positive contribution to CO and humidity, and those from the northwest sector contribute conversely to the respective quantities. 展开更多

The density function can be easily extended to higher order according to demand and is non-negative everywhere, satisfying the basic behavior of the probability, Moreover because the distribution is derived without any assumption about sea waves, it is found from comparison with several accepted distributions that the new form of distribution can be applied in a wider range of wave conditions, In addition, the density function can be used to fit some observed distributions of surface vertical acceleration although something remains unsolved. 展开更多

Several remotely sensed sea surface salinity(SSS) retrievals with various resolutions from the soil moisture and ocean salinity(SMOS) and Aquarius/SAC-D missions are applied as inputs for retrieving salinity profiles(S) using multilinear regressions. The performance is evaluated using a total root mean square(RMS) error, different error sources, and the feature resolutions of the retrieved S fields. In the mixed layer of the salinity, the SSS-S regression coefficients are uniformly large. The SSS inputs yield smaller RMS errors in the retrieved S with respect to Argo profiles as their spatial or temporal resolution decreases. The projected SSS errors are dominant, and the retrieved S values are more accurate than those of climatology in the tropics except for the tropical Atlantic, where the regression errors are abnormally large. Below that level, because of the influence of a sea level anomaly, the areas of high-accuracy S values shift to higher latitudes except in the high-latitude southern oceans, where the projected SSS errors are abnormally large. A spectral analysis suggests that the CATDS-0.25° results are much noisier and that the BEC-L4-0.25° results are much smoother than those of the other retrievals. Aquarius-CAP-1° generates the smallest RMS errors, and Aquarius-V2-1° performs well in depicting large-scale phenomena. BEC-L3-0.25°,which has small RMS errors and remarkable mesoscale energy, is the best fit for portraying mesoscale features in the SSS and retrieved S fields. The current priority for retrieving S is to improve the reliability of satellite SSS especially at middle and high latitudes, by developing advanced algorithms, combining both sensors, or weighing between accuracy and resolutions. 展开更多
