RBOE is a new type of DNAN-based high-energy melt-cast mixed explosive,whose safety under thermal stimulation is significantly affected by heating conditions and venting area of the warhead.Based on the thermal decomposition reaction characteristics and combustion characteristics of each component of RBOE explosive,the cook-off calculation models of RBOE warhead before and after ignition were established.In addition,closed and vented warheads were designed,as well as fast and slow cook-off test devices.The cook-off characteristics and thermal safety venting area of RBOE warhead were extensively studied.The results showed that the closed RBOE warhead underwent deflagration reaction under both slow and fast cook-off conditions.The calculation result of the shell wall temperature before slow cookoff ignition response of the warhead was 454.06 K,with an error of+1.75%compared to the test result of462.15 K,and the temperature rise rate calculated was in good agreement with the test.The calculated ignition time of RBOE warhead under fast cook-off was 161 s,with an error of+8.8%compared to the test result of 148 s,which verified the accuracy of cook-off model of RBOE warhead before ignition.According to the cook-off calculation model of the warhead after ignition and cook-off test of the vented warhead,it was determined that the thermal safety venting area was 1124.61 mm^(2)for fast cook-off and 530.66 mm~2 for slow cook-off,effectively preventing the reaction of warhead above combustion.Therefore,this study provides a scientific basis for the thermal safety design and evaluation of insensitive warheads. 展开更多

Multi-scale modeling of the multi-phase flow in water electrolyzers for green hydrogen production

Water electrolyzers play a crucial role in green hydrogen production.However,their efficiency and scalability are often compromised by bubble dynamics across various scales,from nanoscale to macroscale components.This review explores multi-scale modeling as a tool to visualize multi-phase flow and improve mass transport in water electrolyzers.At the nanoscale,molecular dynamics(MD)simulations reveal how electrode surface features and wettability influence nanobubble nucleation and stability.Moving to the mesoscale,models such as volume of fluid(VOF)and lattice Boltzmann method(LBM)shed light on bubble transport in porous transport layers(PTLs).These insights inform innovative designs,including gradient porosity and hydrophilic-hydrophobic patterning,aimed at minimizing gas saturation.At the macroscale,VOF simulations elucidate two-phase flow regimes within channels,showing how flow field geometry and wettability affect bubble discharging.Moreover,artificial intelligence(AI)-driven surrogate models expedite the optimization process,allowing for rapid exploration of structural parameters in channel-rib flow fields and porous flow field designs.By integrating these approaches,we can bridge theoretical insights with experimental validation,ultimately enhancing water electrolyzer performance,reducing costs,and advancing affordable,high-efficiency hydrogen production. 展开更多

A thermodynamically complete multi-phase equation of state(EOS)applicable to both dense and porous metals at wide ranges of temperature and pressure is constructed.A standard three-term decomposition of the Helmholtz free energy as a function of specific volume and temperature is presented,where the cold component models both compression and expansion states,the thermal ion component introduces the Debye approximation and melting entropy,and the thermal electron component employs the Thomas-Fermi-Kirzhnits(TFK)model.The porosity of materials is considered by introducing the dynamic porosity coefficientαand the constitutive P-αrelation,connecting the thermodynamic properties between dense and porous systems,allowing for an accurate description of the volume decrease caused by void collapse while maintaining the quasi-static thermodynamic properties of porous systems identical to the dense ones.These models enable the EOS applicable and robust at wide ranges of temperature,pressure and porosity.A systematic evaluation of the new EOS is conducted with aluminum(Al)as an example.300 K isotherm,shock Hugoniot,as well as melting curves of both dense and porous Al are calculated,which shows great agreements with experimental data and validates the effectiveness of the models and the accuracy of parameterizations.Notably,it is for the first time Hugoniot P-σcurves up to 10~6 GPa and shock melting behaviors of porous Al are derived from analytical EOS models,which predict much lower compression limit and shock melting temperatures than those of dense Al. 展开更多

The nitrate reduction via electrochemical catalysis offers an environmentally friendly method for sustainable ammonia production and wastewater remediation.However,conventional Co-based catalysts suffer from a major limitation:their nitrate(NO_(3)^(-))adsorption capacity remains weak.This drawback severely restricts their catalytic efficiency.To overcome this limitation,we synthesized a triphasic interface material(Cu/Co/CoO@C)via rapid joule heating and elucidated its performance-enhancing mechanisms.The exceptional catalytic performance originates from the phase interface-induced multiscale structural regulation.At the microscopic scale,electronic structure modulation through interfacial charge redistribution between Cu and Co/CoO significantly reduces intermediate adsorption energies.Co 3d and O 2p orbitals coupling generates a localized polarized electric field,enhancing NO_(3)^(-)activation.At the macroscopic scale,defect-rich structures improve mass transfer and expose abundant active sites.With the Cu/Co/CoO@C,the yield of NH_(3) is achieved to 2.03 mmol h^(-1)cm^(-2)(-0.4 V vs.RHE,Faradaic efficiency(FE)98.4%).The assembled Zn-NO_(3)^(-)battery delivered a maximum power density of 52.09 mW cm^(-2)and a NH_(3) production rate of 297.5μmol h^(-1)cm^(-2)(FE 95.4%).Based on these results,this work offers new insights into multiphase interface design. 展开更多

In this paper the conception of smart materials and structures is firstly combined with research of air bag,and the main theory of self adapting cushioning of intelligent air bag is expatiated.The intelligent venting structure is the main part affecting the cushioning result.Electrostrictive material was found having big force,high response speed and wide linearity,and it is fit to utilize in intelligent venting structure. The characteristic of the dynamic response and cushioning actuating of an electrostrictive stack actuator is analyzed,and the result of the computer simulation of the fuzzy control to intelligent venting structure is given.It is concluded that intelligent venting structure has good actuating characteristic and can satisfy the need of intelligent air bag. 展开更多

In order to design the relief system size of di-tert-butyl peroxide(DTBP) storage tanks,the runaway re-action of DTBP was simulated by accelerating rate calorimeter(ARC).The results indicated that under adiabatic conditions the initial exothermic temperature was 102.6 ℃,the maximum self-heating rate was 3.095×107 ℃·min-1,the maximum self-heating temperature was 375.9 ℃,and the pressure produced by unit mass was 4.512 MPa·g-1.Judged by ARC test,the emergency relief system for DTBP was a hybrid system.Based on Design Institute for Emergency Relief System(DIERS) method,the releasing mass flow rate W was determined by Leung methods,and the mass velocity G was calculated by two modified Omega methods.The two relief sizes calculated by monograph Omega method and arithmetic Omega method are close,with only 0.63% relative error.The monograph Omega method is more convenient to apply. 展开更多

A novel hood structure has been designed for the dust control system in the foundry in order to improve the working environment. A composite strategy has been applied for comparative analysis of the optimal venting volume and the airflow distribution between the conventional hood and the novel one in this study. A Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) method is used to simulate the airflow fields and dust-polluted air moving paths. The CFD results show that a two-outlet hood, with one outlet located on the left of the hood, is better for improving dust-polluted air than the hood with one outlet only. It can be concluded that the number of the outlets as well as their location on the hood has a significant influence on the air flow pattern in the hood. The optimal venting volume is also a major consideration that is discussed in the study. The venting volume should be designed by considering both the effective level of air flow velocity around the dust source and the energy saving. The optimal airflow distribution may reduce the turbulence in the hood system. 展开更多

The safety valve is an important component to ensure the safe operation of lithium-ion batteries(LIBs).However,the effect of safety valve type on the thermal runaway(TR)and gas venting behavior of LIBs,as well as the TR hazard severity of LIBs,are not known.In this paper,the TR and gas venting behavior of three 100 A h lithium iron phosphate(LFP)batteries with different safety valves are investigated under overheating.Compared to previous studies,the main contribution of this work is in studying and evaluating the effect of gas venting behavior and TR hazard severity of LFP batteries with three safety valve types.Two significant results are obtained:(Ⅰ)the safety valve type dominates over gas venting pressure of battery during safety venting,the maximum gas venting pressure of LFP batteries with a round safety valve is 3320 Pa,which is one order of magnitude higher than other batteries with oval or cavity safety valve;(Ⅱ)the LFP battery with oval safety valve has the lowest TR hazard as shown by the TR hazard assessment model based on gray-fuzzy analytic hierarchy process.This study reveals the effect of safety valve type on TR and gas venting,providing a clear direction for the safety valve design. 展开更多

Determining the venting time of a gas trunk pipeline segment provides an important basis for formulating an emergency plan in the advent of unexpected accidents.As the natural gas venting process corresponds to the transient flow,it is necessary to establish a transient hydraulic-thermal simulation model in order to determine the venting time.In this paper,based on two kinds of venting scenarios in which there is only one venting point in the venting system of a gas trunk pipeline segment—namely,where the venting point is either at one of the two ends or at the junction of two gas trunk pipeline segments—transient hydraulic-thermal simulation models are established.The models consist of gas flow governing equations,the gas state equation,gas physical property equations,initial conditions,and appropriate boundary conditions.The implicit central difference method is used to discretize the gas flow partial differential equations,and the trust-region-dogleg algorithm is used to solve the equations corresponding to each time step,in order to dynamically simulate the whole venting process.The judgment condition for the end of the venting process is that the average pressure of gas trunk pipeline segment is less than 0.11 MPa(actual pressure).Comparing the simulation results of the proposed model with those of the OLGA software and real operational data,we find that the venting time error is less than 10%.On this basis,a venting valve opening control principle is proposed,which prevents the venting noise from exceeded the specified noise value(85 d B)in the venting design of domestic gas pipeline projects.The established calculation model for venting time(dynamic simulation model)for a gas trunk pipeline segment and the proposed opening control principle of venting valve provide reference for the optimal operation of gas pipeline venting systems. 展开更多

Many locations with concentrated hydrates at vents have confirmed the presence of abundant thermogenic gas in the middle of the Qiongdongnan Basin(QDNB).However,the impact of deep structures on gasbearing fluids migration and gas hydrates distribution in tectonically inactive regions is still unclear.In this study,the authors apply high-resolution 3D seismic and logging while drilling(LWD)data from the middle of the QDNB to investigate the influence of deep-large faults on gas chimneys and preferred gasescape pipes.The findings reveal the following:(1)Two significant deep-large faults,F1 and F2,developed on the edge of the Songnan Low Uplift,control the dominant migration of thermogenic hydrocarbons and determine the initial locations of gas chimneys.(2)The formation of gas chimneys is likely related to fault activation and reactivation.Gas chimney 1 is primarily arises from convergent fluid migration resulting from the intersection of the two faults,while the gas chimney 2 benefits from a steeper fault plane and shorter migration distance of fault F2.(3)Most gas-escape pipes are situated near the apex of the two faults.Their reactivations facilitate free gas flow into the GHSZ and contribute to the formation of fracture‐filling hydrates. 展开更多

Structure materials under severe irradiations in nuclear environments are known to degrade because of irradiation hardening and loss of ductility,resulting from irradiation-induced defects such as vacancies,interstitials and dislocation loops,etc.In this paper,we develop an elastic-viscoplastic model for irradiated multi-phase polycrystalline BCC materials in which the mechanical behaviors of individual grains and polycrystalline aggregates are both explored.At the microscopic grain scale,we use the internal variable model and propose a new tensorial damage descriptor to represent the geometry character of the defect loop,which facilitates the analysis of the defect loop evolutions and dislocation-defect interactions.At the macroscopic polycrystal scale,the self-consistent scheme is extended to consider the multiphase problem and used to bridge the individual grain behavior to polycrystal properties.Based on the proposed model,we found that the work-hardening coefficient decreases with the increase of irradiation-induced defect loops,and the orientation/loading dependence of mechanical properties is mainly attributed to the different Schmid factors.At the polycrystalline scale,numerical results for pure Fe match well with the irradiation experiment data.The model is further extended to predict the hardening effect of dispersoids in oxide-dispersed strengthened steels by the considering the Orowan bowing.The influences of grain size and irradiation are found to compete to dominate the strengthening behaviors of materials. 展开更多

An advanced ceramic cutting tool material Al2O3/TiC/TiN (LTN) is developed by incorporation and dispersion of micro-scale TiC particle and nano-scale TiN particle in alumina matrix. With the optimal dispersing and fabricating technology, this multi-scale and multi-phase nanocomposite ceramic tool material can get both higher flexural strength and fracture toughness than that of A1203/TiC (LZ) ceramic tool material without nano-scale TiN particle, especially the fracture toughness can reach to 7.8 MPa . m^0.5. The nano-scale TiN can lead to the grain fining effect and promote the sintering process to get a higher density. The coexisting transgranular and intergranular fracture mode induced by micro-scale TiC and nano-scale TiN, and the homogeneous and densified microstructure can result in a remarkable strengthening and toughening effect. The cutting performance and wear mechanisms of the advanced multi-scale and multi-phase nanocomposite ceramic cutting tool are researched. 展开更多

The deformation and micro-voids formation mechanisms in ferrite / bainite( F / B) multi-phase steel with the volume fraction of bainite less than 50% were studied by numerical simulation and experimental observation. The results show that the micro-strain concentrates at the soft / hard phase( F / B) interface in the multi-phase steel,which should be correlated with the mechanism of incoordinate deformation. During the necking of the steel,the micro-voids initially form around the F / B interface,which also form in ferrite and bainite with the severe strain. The micro-voids in bainite are more dense and finer than those in ferrite. The failure mechanism of bainite is the coalescence of micro-voids,and the failure mechanism of ferrite is the growth and tearing of micro-voids. Due to the different failure mechanisms of ferrite and bainite,a suitable part of soft phase would be beneficial to the capability of anti-failure of F / B multi-phase steel during the ductile fracture. 展开更多

Left Ventricular Pseudoaneurysm Caused by a Left Ventricular Venting Catheter via the Right Superior Pulmonary Vein during Thoracic Aortic Surgery: A Case Report

We report a rare case of an LV pseudoaneury... A left ventricular (LV) pseudoaneurysm is one of the complications of acute myocardial infarction. It is also reported after chest trauma, cardiac surgery, and endocarditis. We report a rare case of an LV pseudoaneurysm induced by an LV venting catheter through the right superior pulmonary vein during thoracic aortic surgery. A 77-year-old man was referred for surgical repair of a distal aortic arch aneurysm. He underwent total aortic arch reconstruction with the frozen elephant trunk technique. The early postoperative period was uneventful. Postoperative contrast computed tomography and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) revealed a pseudoaneurysm with a narrow neck at the apex of the LV that had sub-clinically progressed. Because of the risk of spontaneous rupture, an urgent aneurysmectomy was performed via a repeat sternotomy. Under cardioplegic arrest, the pseudoaneurysm was opened and the small orifice, which communicated with the LV, was confirmed. No myocardial ischemic changes were observed around the orifice. The pseudoaneurysm was thought to be induced by endocardial laceration by the tip of the venting catheter. The pseudoaneurysm was closed by linear repair reinforced with felt strips. The patient recovered well and was discharged 18 days after the second surgery. TTE showed no recurrence of LV aneurysm at the last follow-up. 展开更多

Based on a lattice Boltzmann method and general principles of porous flow, a numerical technique is presented for analysing the separation of multi-phase immiscible fluids in porous media. The total body force acting on fluid particles is modified by axiding relative permeability in Nithiarasu's expression with an axiditional surface tension term. As a test of this model, we simulate the phase separation for the case of two immiscible fluids. The numerical results show that the two coupling relative permeability coefficients K12 and K21 have the same magnitude, so the linear flux-forcing relationships satisfy Onsager reciprocity. Phase separation phenomenon is shown with the time evolution of density distribution and bears a strong similarity to the results obtained from other numerical models and the flows in sands. At the same time, the dynamical rules in this model are local, therefore it can be run on massively parallel computers with well computational efficiency. 展开更多

Three-dimensional flowerlike nanostructured metal oxides attached on the surfaces of Fe-based multi-phase nanocrys- talline ribbons (Fe-MNRs) were prepared by a simple way (through immersing the Fe-MNRs in Orange II solution). It has been found that the as-prepared Fe-MNRs with 3D flowerlike nanostructures (Fe-MNRs + FNs) exhibit good absorption property for a typical heavy metal ion (Cr^VI) in wastewater, while Fe-MNRs do not possess such properties. The Fe-MNRs + FNs could remove 99% CrvI ions from the solution in 40 min, and this adsorption property can be attributed to the ion exchange between Cr^VI and surface hydroxyl groups (O-H) of 3D flowerlike nanostructures. The present result suggests that the Fe-MNRs + FNs, prepared by facile way, possess great potentials in removing heavy metallic ions in wastewater. 展开更多
