Magnesium(Mg) alloy AZ31 was produced by continuous variable cross-section direct extrusion(CVCDE)to study its deformation behavior. Metallographic microscopy(OM), transmission electron microscopy(TEM), and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) were used to observe the variations in microstructure and fracture morphology of Mg alloy AZ31 as a function of processing methods. The results reveal that grains of Mg alloy AZ31 were refined and their microstructure was homogenized by CVCDE. The recrystallization in Mg alloy AZ31 produced by CVCDE with 2 interim dies was more complete than that produced by conventional extrusion(CE) and CVCDE with 1 interim die, and the grains were finer and more uniform.Plasticity of the AZ31 alloy was improved. Fracture mode was evolved from a combination of ductility and brittleness to a sole ductile form. In summary, a CVCDE mold structure with 2 interim dies can improve microstructure, plasticity, and toughness of Mg alloy AZ31. 展开更多

Lizards are one of the most primitive reptiles in existence, with special limb structures that enable them to move quickly across diverse and complex terrains such as rock piles, shallow shoals, and deserts.A thorough exploration was conducted on the biomimetic mechanism and ground-touching mechanism of lizard limbs from both micro and macro perspectives.Inspired by the intricate torso and limb configurations of lizards,a novel Torso-leg-foot biomimetic robot has been conceptualized based on the design of the Big-Foot robot. This robot integrates a Torso-leg-foot system, featuring a parallel torso biomimetic structure with a 2-SPR/UPU/UPR(P)configuration.It utilizes the theory of finite screws to articulate the instantaneous movements of the parallel torso, and the inverse kinematics of this mechanism have been calculated. The reachable workspace of the 2-SPR/UPU/UPR parallel mechanism using FIS theory, which is closely related to the climbing height of the robot.A comprehensive dimension synthesis was conducted on the leg-foot system, and the adoption of the three-pair rod drive method was determined by investigating its Variable Rotating Velocity Characteristics(VRVC).Simulation tests have shown that with an integrated torso, the robot can climb vertical obstacles up to 600 mm in height. The experimental tests of climbing steps and slopes using physical prototypes have confirmed the robot's obstacle-crossing capability. The potential applications of this Torso-leg-foot biomimetic robot is to carry heavy objects across obstacles to perform tasks such as planetary exploration and disaster relief. 展开更多

Vibration issues of a five-stand tandem cold rolling mill were found in the steel production practice, and the experimental observation and numerical analysis indicated that the vibrations were related to the back-up roll bearing. The results were validated by replacing the back-up roll bearing with the new bearing resulting in 30%decline in vibration amplitude.Models describing the four-row cylindrical roller bearing and the vertical system of the cold rolling mill including the bearing were established. Moreover, the mechanisms of periodic excitation and amplified vibrations of fault-free bearing were explained theoretically, along with the analysis of bifurcation behaviors of the motion states of the roller bearing and rolling mill system. It is found that the energy transmitted between vibrations with different frequencies if multiple excitation frequencies in the rolling mill system were close. 展开更多

Analysis is done of five-year low-pass filtered data by a five-layer low-order global spectral model, indicating that although any non-seasonal external forcing is not considered in the model atmosphere,monthly-scale anomaly takes place which is of remarkable seasonality and interannual variability.Analysis also shows that for the same seasonal external forcing the model atmosphere can exhibit two climatic states, similar in the departure pattern but opposite in sign, indicating that the anomaly is but the manifestation of the adverse states, which supports the theory of multi-equilibria proposed by Charney and Devore(1979) once again. Finally, the source for the low-frequency oscillation of the global atmosphere is found to be the convective heat source / sink inside the tropical atmosphere as discussed before in our study. Therefore, the key approach to the exploration of atmospheric steady low-frequency oscillation and the associated climatic effect lies in the examination of the distribution of convective heat sources / sinks and the variation in the tropical atmosphere. 展开更多

In this paper, an efficient hybrid shock capturing scheme is proposed to obtain accurate results both in the smooth region and around discontinuities for compressible flows. The hybrid algorithm is based on a fifth-order weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) scheme in the finite volume form to solve the smooth part of the flow field, which is coupled with a characteristic-based monotone upstream-centered scheme for conservation laws (MUSCL) to capture discontinuities. The hybrid scheme is intended to combine high resolution of MUSCL scheme and low dissipation of WENO scheme. The two ingredients in this hybrid scheme are switched with an indicator. Three typical indicators are chosen and compared. MUSCL and WENO are both shock capturing schemes making the choice of the indicator parameter less crucial. Several test cases are carried out to investigate hybrid scheme with different indicators in terms of accuracy and efficiency. Numerical results demonstrate that the hybrid scheme in the present work performs well in a broad range of problems. 展开更多

The authors consider the problem of boundary feedback stabilization of the 1D Euler gas dynamics locally around stationary states and prove the exponential stability with respect to the H2-norm. To this end, an explicit Lyapunov function as a weighted and squared H2-norm of a small perturbation of the stationary solution is constructed. The authors show that by a suitable choice of the boundary feedback conditions, the H2- exponential stability of the stationary solution follows. Due to this fact, the system is stabilized over an infinite time interval. Furthermore, exponential estimates for the C norm are derived. 展开更多
