The design of these assembly systems needs to be highly complex to meet the requirements. Due to the increasing number of variants in production processes, as well as shorter innovation and product life cycles, assistance systems should improve quality and reduce complexity of assembly processes. However, many large kitchen manufacturers still assemble kitchen cabinets manually, due to the high variety of components, such as rails and fittings. This paper focuses on the analysis and evaluation of virtual assistance systems to improve quality and usability in individualised kitchen cabinet assembly processes at a large German manufacturer. A solution is identified and detailed.展开更多

Design: Randomized controlled usability and feasibility study. Setting: Rehabilitation laboratories at two regional medical centers. Participants: Individuals with knee osteoarthritis undergoing unilateral TKA (APP group: N = 26;mean age, 67.0 ± 8.2 y;CONTROL group: N = 31;mean age, 64.7 ± 7.7 y). Interventions: This study assessed the user experience of a downloadable app to guide 30 days of home exercises and instruction after TKA and compared exploratory outcomes to a group using paper handouts. Main Outcome Measures: The System Usability Scale (SUS) score was used to assess patient usability experience. Raw SUS scores were dichotomized (≥72% or <72%) to determine app usability against a 75% a priori criterion for mean APP group score. Feasibility for app use was similarly evaluated in the APP group only through a priori criteria applied to computing device ownership and study use, to the absence of technology-based barriers to participation, and to completion of app-based testing. Exploratory measures compared change from baseline to 30 days for functional and patient-reported outcomes between APP and CONTROL. Results: The APP group’s mean SUS score of 79.2% at 30 days exceeded the 75% threshold for good usability. The app met the predetermined a priori feasibility criteria for absence of technology-based barriers to participation (75% of participants) and completion of app-based testing (91.3% of participants). Personal computing devices were used by 71.4% of APP participants, which was below the 75% a priori feasibility criterion. No differences between the APP and CONTROL groups were observed for functional or patient-reported outcomes. Conclusions: The app-based platform met the a priori criteria for usability for 79% of APP participants. Our findings suggest that app-based, avatar-guided home exercise after TKA has acceptable usability and feasibility. The app-guided patient assessment capability also demonstrates preliminary feasibility for guiding and administering functional and self-reported outcomes assessments.展开更多

This research analysis is carried out for various corresponding features to compare or evaluate different features on the basis of modern smart phones’ operating system, framework for hardware and software, battery life and many more features. Usability testing of smart phones’ software application is a promising research context that nowadays faces a number of challenges because of sole features of mobile phones, narrow bandwidth, varying environmental factors and unreliability of wireless connection or networks. A number of questionings are applied to accumulate user’s opinion about ongoing features. Users of Android and Apple smart phones reply by answering based on their routine life usage experience. In this paper, we will also elaborate and provide a new proposed model for mobile devices.展开更多

This has led to digitalrevolution, and in this context, the hardwired technologies in the software industry play a significant role However, from the beginning, software security remainsa serious issue for all levels of stakeholders. Software vulnerabilities lead to intrusions that cause data breaches and result in disclosure of sensitive data, compromising the organizations’ reputation that translates into, financial losses andcompromising software usability as well. Most of the data breaches are financiallymotivated, especially in the healthcare sector. The cyber invaders continuouslypenetrate the E- Health data because of the high cost of the data on the darkweb. Therefore, security assessment of healthcare web-based applicationsdemands immediate intervention mechanisms to weed out the threats of cyberattacks for the sake of software usability. The proposed disclosure is a unique process of three phases that are combined by researchers in order to produce andmanage usability management framework for healthcare information system. Inthis most threatened time of digital era where, Healthcare data industry has bornethe brunt of the highest number of data breach episodes in the last few years. Thekey reason for this is attributed to the sensitivity of healthcare data and the highcosts entailed in trading the data over the dark web. Hence, usability managementof healthcare information systems is the need of hour as to identify the vulnerabilities and provide preventive measures as a shield against the breaches. The proposed unique developed model of usability management workflow is preparedby associating steps like learn;analyze and manage. All these steps gives an allin one package for the healthcare information management industry because thereis no systematic model available which associate identification to implementationsteps with different evaluation steps.展开更多

In parallel with the development of these methods, the research about usability engineering has generated many important results, both from the design, and the evaluation and testing points of view. The research described in this paper aims at evaluating the feasibility of the integration of two new usability methods, the design for innovative usability - DFIU -, and the integrated method for usability evaluation and testing - IMUET -, in an existing design for X named design guidelines collaborative framework - DGLs-CF -. Indeed, the DGLs-CF is a design for multi-X method, given that it covers both the manufacturing and the verification phases of the industrial product lifecycle. All these methods are currently under development by the author’s research group. To evaluate this feasibility, the first task of the research aims at describing and classifying the components of the three methods. Next, these components are semantically related to each other. Finally, the last activity verifies the compatibility between the components of the two usability methods and the data structures of the DGLs-CF to check the feasibility from the implementation point of view. The result of this research will consist of precise indications both for the development of a design for multi-X collaborative framework covering homogeneously the design, manufacturing, verification, and use phases of the industrial product lifecycle, and to be used as a reference for researchers interested in considering the integration of usability issues in their design tools, methods, and processes.展开更多

The more the body is exposed to it, the greater the negative effect has. If usability is crucial to a specific industry, it is more crucial in the medical health industry due to its tremendous effect on safety and the patient’s health. This study examines the usability of CT scans based on 14 attributes from hospitals across Saudi Arabia. The study revealed that usability consistency, visibility, minimalism, memory, and flexibility have the most usability catastrophic complaints, where the overall catastrophic rate exceeds 20%. Creating a shortcut for frequently used operations is critically important, because it has a fundamental effect in minimizing physical and mental exertion.展开更多

Researchers argue that many usability results and recommendations lack empirical and experimental data. Universities web pages are chosen as subjects for this work. Series of experiments have been conducted to investigate into the usability and design of the universities web pages. Prototype web pages have been developed according to the structured methodologies of web pages design and development. Four universities web pages were evaluated together with the prototype web pages using a questionnaire which was designed according to the Human Computer Interactions (HCI) concepts. The data collected was analyzed using correlation and regression models. The correlation analysis showed that there were significant positive and negative correlations between many items. The regression analysis revealed that the most significant factors (items) that contributed to the best model of the universities web pages design and usability were: multimedia in the web pages, the web pages icons (alone) organization and design, and graphics attractiveness. The results showed some of the limitations of some heuristics used in conventional interface system design and proposed some additional heuristics in web pages design and usability.展开更多

文摘In this paper, we present a narrative role methodology based on different people’s opinions,?which is now implemented in our research environment for the purpose of testing novel techniques, the usability testing of most common used smart phones such as Android and Apple smart phone application. In this paper, we will also elaborate and provide a new proposed model for mobile devices.

文摘To support multi-factor decision problems about usability evaluation, especially when studies fall short of comparable objects, a fuzzy synthetic evaluation model is explored in this paper. Grey relational analysis (GRA) is brought in the model to calculate weight vectors of the usability factors. And membership functions of a remark vector are constructed in the context of use of the operation interface. The present method is applied in usability evaluation of operation interface and is proved to be effective. The comprehensive usability gradation of the operation interface to good is 0. 616 4 that meets the requirements in practice.

文摘Transformation from conventional business management systems tosmart digital systems is a recurrent trend in the current era. All these steps gives an allin one package for the healthcare information management industry because thereis no systematic model available which associate identification to implementationsteps with different evaluation steps.
文摘Recently, with the spread of online services involving websites,attack-ers have the opportunity to expose these services to malicious actions. To protect these services,A Completely Automated Public Turing Test to Tell Computers and Humans Apart(CAPTCHA)is a proposed technique.Since many Arabic countries have developed their online services in Arabic,Arabic text-based CAPTCHA has been introduced to improve the usability for their users.More-over,there exist a visual cryptography(VC)technique which can be exploited in order to enhance the security of text-based CAPTCHA by encrypting a CAPTCHA image into two shares and decrypting it by asking the user to stack them on each other. However,as yet,the implementation of this technique with regard to Arabic text-based CAPTCHA has not been carried out. Therefore, this paper aims to implement an Arabic printed and handwritten text-based CAPTCHA scheme based on the VC technique. To evaluate this scheme,experi-mental studies are conducted, and the results show that the implemented scheme offers a reasonable security and usability levels with text-based CAPTCHA itself.

文摘Recently,a specific interest is being taken in the development of mobile application(app)via Model-Based User Interface Development(MBUID)approach.MBUID allows the generation of mobile apps in the target platform(s)from conceptual models. As such it simplified the development process of mobile app. However, the interest is only focused on the functional aspects of the mobile app while neglecting the non-functional aspects, such as usability. The latter is largely considered as the main factor leading to the success or failure of any software system. This paper aims at addressing non-functional aspects of mobile apps generated using MBUID approach. As such,we propose a usability-driven approach for the development of mobile apps. The main stages of the proposed approach are defined in a generic way so that they can be integrated with any MBUID method.A case study is presented,in the paper, with the aim of illustrating the feasibility of this approach.
文摘Design for manufacturing, design for assembly, and, in general, design for X, are methods helping an effective generation of industrial products. The result of this research will consist of precise indications both for the development of a design for multi-X collaborative framework covering homogeneously the design, manufacturing, verification, and use phases of the industrial product lifecycle, and to be used as a reference for researchers interested in considering the integration of usability issues in their design tools, methods, and processes.
文摘Usability is a vital characteristic in operating medical machines, especially radiological machines, such as computed tomography (CT) scans and X-rays. Creating a shortcut for frequently used operations is critically important, because it has a fundamental effect in minimizing physical and mental exertion.
文摘Community of Practice (CoP) has been proved as an effective means for co-creation of knowledge. It is not yet widely used in health promotion, not to mention to utilize technological environment such as Web 2.0 to add value to the CoP. Under this study, an eHealth promotion @HKIEd, a CoP platform to promote healthy lifestyles was designed and constructed. It helped facilitate the CoP to share useful health information, locate expertise, promote health related events, communicate health updates effectively, co-construct shared repertoire of knowledge and build shared best practice on effective health promotion which was not limited to time, space and distance. Usability test was conducted to evaluate user acceptance of the eHealth promotion CoP platform using the Computer System Usability Questionnaire. A random sample of eighty-three active participants was recruited. Fifty females and thirty-three males with mean (S.D.) aged 21.1 were asked to evaluate the e-platform. The average scores of each domain were calculated with the corresponding means of the average scores of System Use, Information Quality and Interface Quality being 2.69, 2.83 and 2.74 respectively. The overall usability was 2.48 and the eHealth promotion @HKIEd demonstrated a high usability. It will provide a promising way to disseminate information for the public in health awareness promotion.
文摘The usability of the web pages is assessed using some statistical models. The results showed some of the limitations of some heuristics used in conventional interface system design and proposed some additional heuristics in web pages design and usability.
