A total number of 35 female and male delinquent inmates of Children Correctional Centre in Cross River State and 35 female and male non-delinquents from a normal school aged from 12 years to 17 years took part in the study. The Child Rearing Questionnaire （CRQ） designed by the researcher was used for data collection. Two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Chi-square was used in testing the study hypotheses at .05 level of significance. The result of the data analysis showed that parental child-rearing style has a significant influence on the three aspects of dishonest behaviour, namely lying, stealing, and truancy, and parents＇ bonding with their children is also significant. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that parents should adopt more of authoritative child upbringing styles. Parents are expected to guide and modify the behaviour of their children to conform with the acceptable behaviours in society as well as participate in activities aimed at preventing crime or disorder being committed by their children.展开更多

Introduction:With the widespread adoption of smartphones,Mobile Phone Dependence Syndrome(MPDS)has emerged as a significant public health concern.However,the relationship between family upbringing environment and MPDS...Introduction:With the widespread adoption of smartphones,Mobile Phone Dependence Syndrome(MPDS)has emerged as a significant public health concern.However,the relationship between family upbringing environment and MPDS among middle school students remains unclear.Methods:The study employed a multi-stage cluster random sampling method to conduct questionnaire and scale assessments among 1,928 students from eight middle schools in Guangzhou during April and May 2023.Propensity score matching was performed to control for confounding variables,including sex,grade,boarding status,and place of residence.used Multivariate logistic regression models were used to examine the associations between parental educational attainment,parenting styles,care levels,family economic conditions,and middle school students’MPDS.Results:After adjusting for covariates,this study revealed that middle school students whose fathers had educational attainment levels of junior high school[odds ratio(OR)=0.39,95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.17–0.90],senior high school,junior college,technical secondary school,or vocational university(OR=0.28,95%CI:0.12–0.67),or a bachelor’s degree and above(OR=0.34,95%CI:0.12–0.92)demonstrated significantly lower odds of MPDS compared to those whose fathers had only an elementary school education or below.Additionally,students whose fathers employed an authoritarian parenting style(OR=1.98,95%CI:1.22–3.21)showed significantly higher odds of MPDS compared to those whose fathers embraced a democratic parenting approach.Conclusion:Promoting democratic parenting styles among fathers and enhancing fathers’educational levels may be beneficial in reducing adolescents’MPDS risk.This study provides valuable insights for developing scientifically informed strategies aimed at promoting adolescents’physical and mental well-being.展开更多

Chinese education is like a large competitive game in the past time,with a lot of over-step learning and pre-emptive education increasing the extra—curricular pressure on primary and secondary school students day by ...Chinese education is like a large competitive game in the past time,with a lot of over-step learning and pre-emptive education increasing the extra—curricular pressure on primary and secondary school students day by day.In 2021,the national"double reduction"policy was implemented,and in 2022,the"Family Education Promotion Law of the People's Republic of China"was introduced.With the combined effect of"one government,one law",the status and role of family education have become more prominent,so it is of great practical significance to understand the education investment behavior of Chinese families.Therefore,this study is a case study of three students and their families from different schools in Weifang,Shandong Province in China.Through semi-structured interviews,this paper discusses the educational investment of well-off families after the implementation of the double reduction policy.The results show that art-related learning content dominates the education expenditure of well-off families after the implementation of the double-reducing policy,while cultural tutoring decreases.Becasue of(a)parents mainly want to cultivate their children's interests and hobbies or provide guidance for weak subjects;(b)the lack of understanding of the double reduction policy,leading to parents and students blindly follow the trend,increasing the pressure of students and parents'anxiety.This study focuses on the feelings of students and parents after the implementation of the double reduction policy,and attaches importance to the problems arising after the implementation of the policy.The findings are helpful to provide reference for future research on the educational investment of wealthy families after the implementation of the double reduction policy.展开更多

Methods: ...Objective: to analyze and explore the relationship between family rearing environment and autistic characteristics of children, so as to improve the present situation of autistic characteristics of children. Methods: From July 2019 to July 2020, 8 kindergartens were randomly selected from the kindergartens in our district. 1600 children were selected as the subjects of this experimental study, except for the children with mental diseases. All the children were investigated by using Chinese Creutzfeldt-Jakob Autism Screening Scale and Family Parenting Environment Scale. Record and analyze the final results. Results: a total of 1,500 questionnaires were collected in this study, with a recovery rate of 93.75%. 132 children were found to be autistic children, with a detection rate of 8.8%. There was a significant difference in patient data between male and female (P<0.05). In addition, the data of children with loneliness were significantly lower than those without loneliness, the difference was significant and had statistical significance (P<0.05). Conclusion: the analysis of the relationship between family rearing environment and autistic characteristics of children shows that male, history of separation, poor social adaptability (or self-care ability), frequent punishment (or neglect) and environmental atmosphere are all important influencing factors. Therefore, improvement must be made from these aspects.展开更多
A sermon is a talk or advice given by clergy in religious discourse.This sermonizing function,however,seems to have ceased to be an exclusive preserve of the clerics.This paper investigates this pragmatic act of sermo...A sermon is a talk or advice given by clergy in religious discourse.This sermonizing function,however,seems to have ceased to be an exclusive preserve of the clerics.This paper investigates this pragmatic act of sermonizing in thirty-one (31) selected lyrics of Sikiru Ayinde Barrister (SAB) of the Fuji fame in Nigeria’s music industry,using Jacob Mey’s (2001) Pragmatic Act theory and Kecskes’ (2010) Socio-Cognitive Approach.A surprising depth of sermonizing in various categories,including social,economic and political sermonizing acts were found paramount in his lyrics.The socio-economic sermonizing act relates to family matters,managing marital conflict,child training and upbringing,value of hard work and dedication to duty,family planning,and such other personal values as showing gratitude for being alive and well,honesty,patience,peacemaking,respect for all,leading a responsible life,helping people,resisting doing evil,wishing others well and cooperating in doing good,the ultimate good judgement of God,being prayerful,inevitability of death,destiny,etc.The political sermonizing act calls for unity,peace,progress,political will,creating an enabling environment by the government,protecting democratic norms and the rule of law,and the need to look inward for an all-round national development.This paper concludes that SAB,beyond being an entertainer,is also a master sermonizer,as his sermonizing acts are deep,comprehensive,and revolve around building not only a complete,prosperous human figure but also a prosperous and peaceful nation.The lyrics,which qualify him as a Music Prophet,have something timeless,fresh and refreshing for all categories of people,particularly Nigerians.The limitation to his lyrics is that they are originally produced in Yoruba language;the import of the sermonizing act,however,is universal.展开更多
