Engine Misfire Fault Detection Based on the Channel Attention Convolutional Model

To accurately diagnosemisfire faults in automotive engines,we propose a Channel Attention Convolutional Model,specifically the Squeeze-and-Excitation Networks(SENET),for classifying engine vibration signals and precisely pinpointing misfire faults.In the experiment,we established a total of 11 distinct states,encompassing the engine’s normal state,single-cylinder misfire faults,and dual-cylinder misfire faults for different cylinders.Data collection was facilitated by a highly sensitive acceleration signal collector with a high sampling rate of 20,840Hz.The collected data were methodically divided into training and testing sets based on different experimental groups to ensure generalization and prevent overlap between the two sets.The results revealed that,with a vibration acceleration sequence of 1000 time steps(approximately 50 ms)as input,the SENET model achieved a misfire fault detection accuracy of 99.8%.For comparison,we also trained and tested several commonly used models,including Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM),Transformer,and Multi-Scale Residual Networks(MSRESNET),yielding accuracy rates of 84%,79%,and 95%,respectively.This underscores the superior accuracy of the SENET model in detecting engine misfire faults compared to other models.Furthermore,the F1 scores for each type of recognition in the SENET model surpassed 0.98,outperforming the baseline models.Our analysis indicated that the misclassified samples in the LSTM and Transformer models’predictions were primarily due to intra-class misidentifications between single-cylinder and dual-cylinder misfire scenarios.To delve deeper,we conducted a visual analysis of the features extracted by the LSTM and SENET models using T-distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding(T-SNE)technology.The findings revealed that,in the LSTMmodel,data points of the same type tended to cluster together with significant overlap.Conversely,in the SENET model,data points of various types were more widely and evenly dispersed,demonstrating its effectiveness in distinguishing between different fault types. 展开更多

A numerical program is built to simulate the performance of a spark ignited two-stroke free-piston engine coupled with a linear generator. The computational model combines a series of dynamic and thermodynamic equations that are solved simultaneously to predict the performances of the engines. The dynamic analysis performed consists of an evaluation of the frictional force and load force introduced by the generator. The thermodynamic analysis used a single zone model to describe the engine' s working cycle which includes intake, scavenging, compression, combustion and expansion, and to evaluate the effect of heat transfer based on the first law of thermodynamics and the ideal gas state equation. Because there is no crankshaft, a time based Wiebe equation was used to express the fraction of fuel burned in the combustion. The calculated results were validated by using the experimental data from another research group. The results indicate that the free-piston generator has some advantages over conventional engines. 展开更多

The development of chemical technologies,which involves a multistage process covering laboratory research,scale‐up to industrial deployment,and necessitates interdisciplinary collaboration,is often accompanied by substantial time and economic costs.To address these challenges,in this work,we report ChemELLM,a domain‐specific large language model(LLM)with 70 billion parameters for chemical engineering.ChemELLM demonstrates state‐of‐the‐art performance across critical tasks ranging from foundational understanding to professional problem‐solving.It outperforms mainstream LLMs(e.g.,O1‐Preview,GPT‐4o,and DeepSeek‐R1)on ChemEBench,the first multidimensional benchmark for chemical engineering,which encompasses 15 dimensions across 101 distinct essential tasks.To support robust model development,we curated ChemEData,a purpose‐built dataset containing 19 billion tokens for pre‐training and 1 billion tokens for fine‐tuning.This work establishes a new paradigm for artificial intelligence‐driven innovation,bridging the gap between laboratory‐scale innovation and industrial‐scale implementation,thus accelerating technological advancement in chemical engineering.ChemELLM is publicly available at https://chemindustry.iflytek.com/chat. 展开更多

Coupled creep-damage and plastic softening/hardening model:Development and engineering application in soft-hard interlayered rock mass

Existing creep constitutive models rarely incorporate studies on the coupling mechanism between creep damage and rock strain softening/hardening.This study analyzed the strain softening and hardening behaviors of argillaceous sandstone and sandy mudstone during load-induced failure based on the plastic increment theory.These behaviors were then coupled with an improved Burgers creep model to establish a coupled creep-damage and plastic softening/hardening model.Finally,the validity and engineering applicability of the proposed model were verified through FLAC~(3D)numerical simulations.The numerical simulation results of standard cylindrical specimens show that the established coupling model can effectively reflect the unloading creep deformation law and failure characteristics of argillaceous sandstone and sandy mudstone.Taking the diversion tunnel of a hydropower station in Northwest China as an example for engineering application,the coupled creep-damage and plastic softening/hardening model is introduced into FLAC~(3D)to carry out numerical simulation calculation of the tunnel under excavation and unsupported creep conditions.The results show that the uncoordinated deformation of the upper and lower walls of the surrounding rock of the tunnel is more prominent.When the buried depth of the tunnel increases to 80 m,the monitoring point C in the sandy mudstone area of the upper wall shows nonlinear accelerated deformation under unsupported creep conditions,and the maximum displacement in the horizontal direction reaches 44.5 mm,and the maximum displacement in the vertical direction reaches 53.5 mm.The coupled creep-damage and plastic softening/hardening model established in the research results can well describe the whole process of uncoordinated deformation and failure in the unloading creep process of soft-hard interbedded rock mass. 展开更多

Optimization of the Working Cycle Parameters of a Syngas Piston Engine Based on Mathematical Modeling

Improving the specific,technical,economic,and environmental characteristics of piston engines(ICE)operating on alternative gaseous fuels is a pressing task for the energy and mechanical engineering industries.The aim of the study was to optimize the parameters of the ICE working cycle after replacing the base fuel(propane-butane blend)with syngas from wood sawdust to improve its technical and economic performance based on mathematical modeling.The modeling results were verified through experimental studies(differences for key parameters did not exceed 4.0%).The object of the study was an electric generator based on a single-cylinder spark ignition engine with a power of 1 kW.The article describes the main approaches to creating a mathematical model of the engine working cycle,a test bench for modeling verification,physicochemical properties of the base fuel(propane-butane blend),and laboratory syngas.It was shown that replacing the fuel from a propane-butane blend to laboratory syngas caused a decrease in engine efficiency to 33%(the efficiency of the base ICE was 0.179 vs.the efficiency of 0.119 for the converted ICE for the 0.59 kW power mode).Engine efficiency was chosen as the key criterion for optimizing the working cycle.As a result of optimization,the efficiency of the converted syngas engine was 6.1%higher than that of the base engine running on the propane-butane blend,and the power drop did not exceed 8.0%.Thus,careful fine-tuning of the working cycle parameters allows increasing the technical and economic characteristics of the syngas engine to the level of ICEs running on traditional types of fuel. 展开更多

A novel two-stroke boosted uniflow scavenged direct-injection gasoline (BUSDIG) engine has been proposed and designed in order to achieve aggressive engine downsizing and down-speeding for higher engine performance and efficiency. In this paper, the design and development of the BUSDIG engine are outlined discussed and the key findings are summarized to highlight the progress of the development of the proposed two-stroke BUSDIG engine. In order to maximize the scavenging performance and produce sufficient in-cylinder flow motions for the fuel/air mixing process in the two-stroke BUSDIG engine, the engine bore/stroke ratio, intake scavenge port angles, and intake plenum design were optimized by three-dimensional (3D) computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. The effects of the opening profiles of the scavenge ports and exhaust valves on controlling the scavenging process were also investigated. In order to achieve optimal in-cylinder fuel stratification, the mixture-formation processes by different injection strategies were studied by using CFD simulations with a calibrated Reitz–Diwakar breakup model. Based on the optimal design of the BUSDIG engine, one-dimensional (1D) engine simulations were performed in Ricardo WAVE. The results showed that a maximum brake thermal efficiency of 47.2% can be achieved for the two-stroke BUSDIG engine with lean combustion and water injection. A peak brake toque of 379 N·m and a peak brake power density of 112 kW·L^-1 were achieved at 1600 and 4000 r·min^-1, respectively, in the BUSDIG engine with the stoichiometric condition. 展开更多

In order to study the effect of two-stage injection on two-stroke diesel engines, a well characterized research engine equipped with electronically controlled common rail system and scavenging system was constructed. Through analysis of combustion and emissions, two-stage injection shows its advantages. Compared with the standard injection, it produces less emissions, while compared with single early injection, it expands engine operation range. Further experiments were carried out to study the influence of several injection control parameters on two-stage injection. The fuel in the first injection is used for forming homogeneous mixture. The fuel in the second injection keeps combustion, and it is the main source of smoke emissions. NO_x is formed in both combustion process caused by these two injections, and there is an optimum fuel allocation ration to produce minimum NO_x. The cylinder pressure decreases, and the combustion is depressed with the increasing of scavenging pressure. By optimizing the injection control parameters of two-stage injection, NO_x and smoke can be reduced beyond 30% simultaneously. 展开更多

A common rail working process and the classical frequency control theory are combined to construct a frequency restriction of common rail pressure. A frequency compensator is utilized to improve the robustness of multiplicative perturbations and disturbance. The loop-shaping method has been applied to design the common rail pressure controller of the OPFC diesel engine. Simulation and bench test results show that in the condition of perturbation that comes from the effect of injection,multi-injection,fuel pumping of a pre-cylinder,and instantaneous pressure fluctuation,the controller indicates high precision. The results show that the nonlinear MRAC controller has the adequate performance of compensating and adapting nonlinearity arising from the change of engine state or working environment. The Senkin code of package is used to simulate the the Chemkin chemical kinetics combustion process of a porous medium(PM) engine fueled by n-heptane. The code is modified to incorporate the Woschni heat transfer correlation and heat transfer model within a porous medium. A detailed chemistry mechanism of NOx formation is coupled with the detailed chemical kinetics mechanism of n-heptane. The code is applied to a zero- dimensional single-zone model of engine combustion. Influences of operating parameters on the performance of the PM engine are discussed. With the increase in the intake temperature and compression ratio, or with the decrease of the excess air ratio, the ignition timing of the PM engine obviously advances. It is found that the porous medium acting as a heat recuperator can considerably preheat the fuel-air mixture, which promotes the ignition and combustion in the cylinder. And the initial PM temperature is a critical factor controlling the compression ignition of the mixture. 展开更多

An engine cyclic variation model has been built by using the residual gas temperature for the n th cycle as the input of the model, through constant pressure intake process, adiabatic compression process, constant volume combustion process, adiabatic expansion process, adiabatic blow down process and constant pressure exhaust process to approximate the thermodynamic processes in the cylinder, finally the residual gas temperature for the ( n+1) th cycle can be estimated. Because of the adding of engine operating parameters such as engine speed, spark advance, equivalence ratio, intake air pressure, intake air temperature to the model, effects of these parameters on cyclic variation can be estimated quantitatively. Since residual gas temperature fluctuation between cycles reflects the circumstances of engine cyclic variation, parameters to which residual gas temperature is sensitive are most likely used as the means to control cyclic variation. Model simulation shows that for the nearly stiochiometric mixture, cyclic variation is not obvious or even quite stable, but for the lean mixture, under the circumstances of partial load and larger spark advances, engine cyclic variations occur chaotically or with bifurcation. 展开更多

The method studies the sys tem characteristics near the equilibrium manifold. The modeling method can be realized through dynamic and static twostep, and for the specific parameter modeling steps and algorithm are given. The output of the test data is compared with the model output through numerical simulation, to check the model with an additional set of test data. In this paper, a wild boar head was taken as the bionic research object for the development of new ridgers, a kind of plough. The reverse engineering technology was adopted to obtain the surface geometrical information of the head. Several three-dimensional (3D) point clouds of the head were captured first using a non-touch laser scanner, and an integrated point cloud was generated by aligning these point clouds using UG/Imageware. Then, the digital surface model of the head was rebuilt by means of CATIA. The characteristic curves of the surface model were analyzed. The results show that the average error between the rebuilt surface and the point cloud is -0.431 ram. The max curvature of the ridge on the neb of the head is 0.187 mm^-1, and the max and rain Gauss curvatures on the surface are 0.008 mm^-2 and -0.002 mm^-2. These geometrical information are the essential parameters for biomimetics study of the ridger. 展开更多

Along with recent advances in earth science,computer science and engineering,computerized loss estimation methodologies based on first principles have been developed to the point that losses from destructive earthquakes can be quantified with reasonable accuracy using scientific modeling techniques. This paper intends to introduce how engineering models can assist to quantify earthquake risk and how insurance industry can use this information to manage their risk in the United States and abroad. 展开更多
