文摘Orthogonal conditional nonlinear optimal perturbations(O-CNOPs)have been used to generate ensemble forecasting members for achieving high forecasting skill of high-impact weather and climate events. However, highly efficient calculations for O-CNOPs are still challenging in the field of ensemble forecasting. In this study,we combine a gradient-based iterative idea with the Gram‒Schmidt orthogonalization, and propose an iterative optimization method to compute O-CNOPs.This method is different from the original sequential optimization method, and allows parallel computations of O-CNOPs,thus saving a large amount of computational time.We evaluate this method by using the Lorenz-96 model on the basis of the ensemble forecasting ability achieved and on the time consumed for computing O-CNOPs.The results demonstrate that the parallel iterative method causes O-CNOPs to yield reliable ensemble members and to achieve ensemble forecasting skills similar to or even slightly higher than those produced by the sequential method. Moreover, the parallel method significantly reduces the computational time for O-CNOPs.Therefore,the parallel iterative method provides a highly effective and efficient approach for calculating O-CNOPs for ensemble forecasts.Expectedly,it can play an important role in the application of the O-CNOPs to realistic ensemble forecasts for high-impact weather and climate events.

文摘Accurate determination of rockhead is crucial for underground construction.Traditionally, borehole data are mainly used for this purpose. However, borehole drilling is costly,time-consuming,and sparsely distributed.Non-invasive geophysical methods, particularly those using passive seismic surface waves, have emerged as viable alternatives for geological profiling and rockhead detection. This study proposes three interpretation methods for rockhead determination using passive seismic surface wave data from Microtremor Array Measurement(MAM)and Horizontal-to-Vertical Spectral Ratio(HVSR)tests. These are:(1)the Wavelength-Normalized phase velocity(WN)method in which a nonlinear relationship between rockhead depth and wavelength is established;(2)the Statistically Determined-shear wave velocity(SD-V_(s))method in which the representative V_(s) value for rockhead is automatically determined using a statistical method;and(3)the empirical HVSR method in which the rockhead is determined by interpreting resonant frequencies using a reliably calibrated empirical equation. These methods were implemented to determine rockhead depths at 28 locations across two distinct geological formations in Singapore, and the results were evaluated using borehole data. The WN method can determine rockhead depths accurately and reliably with minimal absolute errors(average RMSE=3.11 m),demonstrating robust performance across both geological formations. Its advantage lies in interpreting dispersion curves alone, without the need for the inversion process. The SD-V_(s) method is practical in engineering practice owing to its simplicity. The empirical HVSR method reasonably determines rockhead depths with moderate accuracy, benefiting from a reliably calibrated empirical equation.

文摘The types and structures of inorganic pores are key factors in evaluations of the reservoir space and distribution characteristics of shale oil and gas. However, quantitative identification methods for pores of different inorganic components have not yet been fully developed. For this reason,a quantitative characterization method of inorganic pores using pixel information was proposed in this study.A machine learning algorithm was used to assist the field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM)image processing of shale to realize the accurate identification and quantitative characterization of inorganic pores on the surface of high-precision images of shale with a small view.Moreover,large-view image splicing technology, combined with quantitative evaluation of minerals by scanning electron microscopy(QEMSCAN)image joint characterization technology, was used to accurately analyze the distribution characteristics of inorganic pores under different mineral components. The quantitative methods of pore characteristics of different inorganic components under the pixel information of shale were studied. The results showed that(1)the Waikato Environment for Knowledge Analysis(WEKA)machine learning model can effectively identify and extract shale mineral components and inorganic pore distribution, and the large-view FE-SEM images are representative of samples at the 200μm×200μm view scale, meeting statistical requirements and eliminating the influence of heterogeneity;(2)the pores developed by different mineral components of shale had obvious differences, indicating that the development of inorganic pores is highly correlated with the properties of shale minerals themselves;and(3)the pore-forming ability of different mineral components is calculated by the quantitative method of single component pore-forming coefficient.Chlorite showed the highest pore-forming ability, followed by(in descending order)illite, pyrite, calcite, dolomite, albite, orthoclase, quartz, and apatite. This study contributes to advancing our understanding of inorganic pore characteristics in shale.

文摘Ceramic spheres, typically with a particle diameter of less than 0.8 mm,are frequently utilized as a critical proppant material in hydraulic fracturing for petroleum and natural gas extraction.Porous ceramic spheres with artificial inherent pores are an important type of lightweight proppant, enabling their transport to distant fracture extremities and enhancing fracture conductivity. However, the focus frequently gravitates towards the low-density advantage, often overlooking the pore geometry impacts on compressive strength by traditional strength evaluation. This paper numerically bypasses such limitations by using a combined finite and discrete element method(FDEM)considering experimental results. The mesh size of the model undergoes validation, followed by the calibration of cohesive element parameters via the single particle compression test. The stimulation elucidates that proppants with a smaller pore size(40μm)manifest crack propagation evolution at a more rapid pace in comparison to their larger-pore counterparts, though the influence of pore diameter on overall strength is subtle. The inception of pores not only alters the trajectory of crack progression but also, with an increase in porosity, leads to a discernible decline in proppant compressive strength.Intriguingly, upon crossing a porosity threshold of 10%,the decrement in strength becomes more gradual.A denser congregation of pores accelerates crack propagation, undermining proppant robustness, suggesting that under analogous conditions, hollow proppants might not match the strength of their porous counterparts. This exploration elucidates the underlying mechanisms of proppant failure from a microstructural perspective, furnishing pivotal insights that may guide future refinements in the architectural design of porous proppant.

文摘The exploitation of oil resources has now extended to ultra-deep formations, with depths even exceeding 10,000 m.During drilling operations, the bottomhole temperature(BHT)can surpass 240℃.Under such high-temperature conditions, measurement while drilling(MWD)instruments are highly likely to malfunction due to the inadequate temperature resistance of their electronic components. As a wellbore temperature control approach, the application of thermal insulated drill pipe(TIDP)has been proposed to manage the wellbore temperature in ultra-deep wells. This paper developed a temperature field model for ultra-deep wells by coupling the interactions of multiple factors on the wellbore temperature. For the first time, five distinct TIDP deployment methods were proposed, and their corresponding wellbo re temperature variation characte ristics were investigated, and the heat transfer laws of the ultra-deep wellbore-formation system were quantitatively elucidated. The results revealed that TIDP can effectively restrain the rapid rise in the temperature of the drilling fluid inside the drill string by reducing the heat flux of the drill string.Among the five deployment methods, the method of deploying TIDP from the bottomhole upwards exhibits the best performance. For a 12,000 m simulated well,when6000 m of TIDP are deployed from the bottomhole upwards, the BHT decreases by 52℃,while the outlet temperature increases by merely 1℃.This not only achieves the objective of wellbore temperature control but also keeps the temperature of the drilling fluid at the outlet of annulus at a relatively low level, thereby reducing the requirements for the heat exchange equipment on the ground. The novel findings of this study provide significant guidance for wellbore temperature control in ultra-deep and ultra-high-temperature wells.

文摘In this paper,a novel method for investigating the particle-crushing behavior of breeding particles in a fusion blanket is proposed. The fractal theory and Weibull distribution are combined to establish a theoretical model, and its validity was verified using a simple impact test.A crushable discrete element method(DEM)framework is built based on the previously established theoretical model. The tensile strength, which considers the fractal theory, size effect, and Weibull variation, was assigned to each generated particle. The assigned strength is then used for crush detection by comparing it with its maximum tensile stress.Mass conservation is ensured by inserting a series of sub-particles whose total mass was equal to the quality loss.Based on the crushable DEM framework,a numerical simulation of the crushing behavior of a pebble bed with hollow cylindrical geometry under a uniaxial compression test was performed. The results of this investigation showed that the particle withstands the external load by contact and sliding at the beginning of the compression process, and the results confirmed that crushing can be considered an important method of resisting the increasing external load.A relatively regular particle arrangement aids in resisting the load and reduces the occurrence of particle crushing. However,a limit exists to the promotion of resistance. When the strain increases beyond this limit, the distribution of the crushing position tends to be isotropic over the entire pebble bed.The theoretical model and crushable DEM framework provide a new method for exploring the pebble bed in a fusion reactor, considering particle crushing.

文摘Effective partitioning is crucial for enabling parallel restoration of power systems after blackouts. This paper proposes a novel partitioning method based on deep reinforcement learning.First, the partitioning decision process is formulated as a Markov decision process(MDP)model to maximize the modularity.Corresponding key partitioning constraints on parallel restoration are considered.Second, based on the partitioning objective and constraints, the reward function of the partitioning MDP model is set by adopting a relative deviation normalization scheme to reduce mutual interference between the reward and penalty in the reward function. The soft bonus scaling mechanism is introduced to mitigate overestimation caused by abrupt jumps in the reward. Then, the deep Q network method is applied to solve the partitioning MDP model and generate partitioning schemes. Two experience replay buffers are employed to speed up the training process of the method. Finally, case studies on the IEEE 39-bus test system demonstrate that the proposed method can generate a high-modularity partitioning result that meets all key partitioning constraints, thereby improving the parallelism and reliability of the restoration process. Moreover, simulation results demonstrate that an appropriate discount factor is crucial for ensuring both the convergence speed and the stability of the partitioning training.

文摘The application of nitrogen fertilizers in agricultural fields can lead to the release of nitrogen-containing gases(NCGs),such as NO_(x),NH_(3) and N_(2)O,which can significantly impact regional atmospheric environment and con-tribute to global climate change. However, there remain considerable research gaps in the accurate measurement of NCGs emissions from agricultural fields, hindering the development of effective emission reduction strategies. We improved an open-top dynamic chambers(OTDCs)system and evaluated the performance by comparing the measured and given fluxes of the NCGs.The results showed that the measured fluxes of NO,N_(2)O and NH_(3)were 1%,2%and 7%lower than the given fluxes, respectively. For the determination of NH_(3) concentration,we employed a stripping coil-ion chromatograph(SC-IC)analytical technique, which demonstrated an absorption efficiency for atmospheric NH_(3) exceeding 96.1%across sampling durations of 6 to 60 min.In the summer maize season,we utilized the OTDCs system to measure the exchange fluxes of NO,NH_(3),and N_(2)O from the soil in the North China Plain.Substantial emissions of NO,NH_(3) and N_(2)O were recorded following fertilization, with peaks of 107,309,1239 ng N/(m^(2)·s),respectively.Notably,significant NCGs emissions were observed following sus-tained heavy rainfall one month after fertilization, particularly with NH_(3) peak being 4.5 times higher than that observed immediately after fertilization. Our results demonstrate that the OTDCs system accurately reflects the emission characteristics of soil NCGs and meets the requirements for long-term and continuous flux observation.

文摘Marine thin plates are susceptible to welding deformation owing to their low structural stiffness. Therefore, the efficient and accurate prediction of welding deformation is essential for improving welding quality. The traditional thermal elastic-plastic finite element method(TEP-FEM)can accurately predict welding deformation. However, its efficiency is low because of the complex nonlinear transient computation, making it difficult to meet the needs of rapid engineering evaluation. To address this challenge, this study proposes an efficient prediction method for welding deformation in marine thin plate butt welds. This method is based on the coupled temperature gradient-thermal strain method(TG-TSM)that integrates inherent strain theory with a shell element finite element model. The proposed method first extracts the distribution pattern and characteristic value of welding-induced inherent strain through TEP-FEM analysis. This strain is then converted into the equivalent thermal load applied to the shell element model for rapid computation. The proposed method-particularly,the gradual temperature gradient-thermal strain method(GTG-TSM)-achieved improved computational efficiency and consistent precision.Furthermore, the proposed method required much less computation time than the traditional TEP-FEM.Thus,this study lays the foundation for future prediction of welding deformation in more complex marine thin plates.
