The spatiotemporal distribution of soot concentration in aero-engine combustor is important for assessing its combustion performance.Here,we report experimental measurements of soot concentration in terms of Soot Volu...The spatiotemporal distribution of soot concentration in aero-engine combustor is important for assessing its combustion performance.Here,we report experimental measurements of soot concentration in terms of Soot Volume Fraction(SVF)and its spatiotemporal distribution in a single-sector dual-swirl aero-engine combustor using Two-Color Laser-Induced Incandescence(2C-LII).It is shown that soot predominantly forms in the symmetrical vortices of the primary combustion zone,exhibiting a V-type distribution with higher concentration in the lower half of the zone than the upper half,with a small amount distributed in the secondary recirculation zone.Soot emissions at the combustor outlet are relatively low under three typical operating conditions by LII experiments,which is aligned with Smoke Number(SN)from gas analysis.The effect of inlet air temperature on SVF distribution and dynamics in the primary combustion zone is studied,which suggests that the SVF level in the primary combustion zone monotonically increases with the temperature.Meanwhile,the SVF distribution becomes more symmetrical as the inlet temperature increases,although the overall SVF level in the lower half of the zone is still higher.We also investigate the influence of the inlet air pressure on the SVF distribution at the combustor outlet.The soot concentration at the combustor outlet increases with inlet pressure,mainly distributed irregularly across both sides and the center.On both sides,the distribution is continuous,while the center exhibits dot-like and linear patterns.Numerical simulations correlated SVF distribution with the flow field in the primary combustion zone,qualitatively explaining the observed SVF distribution behavior.These results under various conditions can provide valuable insights for improving the performance of this specific combustor and designing high-temperature-rise combustors in the future.展开更多

In this study, the optimum operating conditions for ...Knowing the optimal operating parameters of Stirling engines is important for efficient combustion through adaptability to changed pressures and oxygen atmospheres. In this study, the optimum operating conditions for efficient combustion in a singular Stirling engine combustor at different oxygen atmospheres were investigated and determined. Numerical simulations were performed to investigate the effects of ejection ratio and pressure on combustion performance. In an oxygen/carbon dioxide atmosphere, the results show that increasing the ejection ratio substantially alters the flame distribution in the Stirling engine combustor, increasing heat transfer and external combustion efficiency. In contrast, increasing the ejection ratio reduces the average and maximum temperatures of the Stirling engine combustor. Increased pressure affects the flame distribution in the Stirling engine combustor and impedes the flow and convective heat transfer in the combustor, reducing the overall external combustion efficiency at pressures above 6.5 MPa. In an air/carbon dioxide atmosphere, an increased ejection ratio reduces the average and maximum temperatures in the Stirling engine combustor. However, the overall flame distribution does not change substantially. The external combustion efficiency tends to increase and then decrease because of two opposing factors: the increase in the convective heat transfer coefficient and the decrease in the temperature difference. Increasing pressure inhibits forced convection heat transfer in the Stirling engine combustor, reducing external combustion efficiency, which drops from 78% to 65% when pressure increases from 0.2 MPa to 0.5 MPa.展开更多

This paper describes an experimental study investigating the effects of sinusoidal pulsed injection on the combustion mode transition in a dual-mode supersonic combustor.The results are obtained under inflow condition...This paper describes an experimental study investigating the effects of sinusoidal pulsed injection on the combustion mode transition in a dual-mode supersonic combustor.The results are obtained under inflow conditions of 2.9 MPa stagnation pressure,1900 K stagnation temperature,and Mach number of 3.0.It has been observed that,at the same equivalence ratio,the combustion mode and flow field structure undergo irreversible changes from a weak combustion state to a strong combustion state at a specific pulsed jet frequency compared to steady jet.For steady jet,the combustion mode is dual-mode.As the frequency of the unsteady jet changes,the combustion mode also changes:it becomes a transition mode at frequencies of 171 Hz and 260 Hz,and a ramjet mode at 216 Hz.Combustion instability under steady jet manifests as a transition in flame stabilization mode.In contrast,under pulsed jet,combustion instability appears either as a transition in flame stabilization mode or as flame blow-off and flashback.The flow field oscillation frequency in the non-reacting flow is 171 Hz,which may resonate with the 171 Hz pulsed jet frequency,making the combustion oscillations most pronounced at this frequency.When the jet frequency is increased to 216 Hz,the combustion intensity significantly increases,and the combustion mode transfers to the ramjet mode.However,further increasing the frequency to 260 Hz results in a decrease in combustion intensity,returning to the transition mode.The frequency of the flow field oscillations varies with the coupling of the pulsed injection frequency,shock wave,and flame,and if the system reaches an unstable state,that is,pre-combustion shock train moves far upstream of the isolator during the pulsed jet period,strong combustion state can be achieved,and this process is irreversible.展开更多

As an in-situ and non-intrusive optical diagnostic technique, La...Quantitative measurement of Soot Volume Fraction (SVF) is an essential prerequisite for controlling soot particle emissions from aero-engine combustors. As an in-situ and non-intrusive optical diagnostic technique, Laser-Induced Incandescence (LII) has been increasingly applied for soot concentration quantification in various combustion environments such as laminar flame, vehicle exhaust, internal combustion chamber as well as aero-engine combustor. In this work, we experimentally measured the spatial and temporal distribution of SVF using two-color LII technique at the outlet of a single-sector dual-swirl aero-engine model combustor. The effect of inlet pressure and air preheat temperature on the SVF distribution was separately investigated within a pressure range of 241–425 kPa and a temperature range of 292–500 K. The results show that soot production increases with the inlet pressure but generally decreases with the air preheat temperature. Qualitative analysis was provided to explain the above results of parametric studies. The LII experiments were also conducted under 3 designed conditions to evaluate soot emission under practical operations. Particularly, weak soot emission was detected at the outlet under the idle condition. Our experimental results provide a valuable benchmark for evaluating soot emission in the exhaust plume of this aero-engine combustor during practical operations.展开更多
To provide advanced diagnostic techniques for diagnosing the outlet temperature distribution and species concentrations of future advanced combustors,this study focuses on a dual-swirl single-dome rectangular combusto...To provide advanced diagnostic techniques for diagnosing the outlet temperature distribution and species concentrations of future advanced combustors,this study focuses on a dual-swirl single-dome rectangular combustor.Through the integration of multiple diagnostics,simultaneous measurement of outlet temperature distribution and species concentrations was achieved.The study validates the engineering applicability of these simultaneous measurements using tungsten-rhenium(W-Re)thermocouples and Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering(CARS),CARS and Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy(TDLAS),as well as Gas Analysis(GA)and Mass Spectrometry(MS).The results demonstrate that measurements by thermocouples and CARS exhibit good consistency and repeatability,with a relative deviation of less than 4%,fully meeting the requirements of engineering experiments.The spatial distribution reconstruction results of TDLAS can reflect the temperature distribution characteristics at the combustor outlet.Temperature comparison between TDLAS and CARS at single-point positions shows consistent results,with a relative deviation of less than 11%and 7%under both conditions,respectively.Simultaneous measurements by integrating GA and MS show high engineering applicability for the first time,meeting the requirements for measuring both inorganic species and free radicals at the combustor outlet.Under C_(1)condition,the relative deviations of four key species(Unburned Hydrocarbon(UHC),NO,O_(2),and CO_(2))remain within 2%,while that of NO_(2)is slightly higher at approximately 8%.Under C_(2)condition,the overall deviations increase for most species,with only O_(2)and CO_(2)maintaining relatively low deviations.The primary species of UHCs at the combustor outlet under both conditions are small molecular hydrocarbons(C_(3)-C_(8))and RO_(2)radicals,accounting for over 90%of total UHC.Specifically,RO_(2)species(R is C_(1)-C_(2)alkyl groups)are the predominant species,accounting for 74.3%and 82.1%of total RO_(2)under both conditions,respectively.These integrated diagnostic methods for temperature and species concentrations at the combustor outlet serve as a crucial reference for its engineering applications.展开更多

The experimental results reveal that the primary recirculation zone lengths of combustion flow field are shorter than those of cold flow field, and the primary reeir- culation zone lengths decrease with the increase of inlet air temperature and fuel/air ratio. Experimental investigations on NOx emissions of a single-cup,Lean Premixed Prevaporized(LPP),module combustor were carried out at elevated inlet temperature and pressure up to810 K and 2.0 MPa,close to the real operat...Experimental investigations on NOx emissions of a single-cup,Lean Premixed Prevaporized(LPP),module combustor were carried out at elevated inlet temperature and pressure up to810 K and 2.0 MPa,close to the real operating conditions of aero-engine combustors.This LPP combustor adopts centrally staged fuel injections which could produce separated stratified swirling spray flame.In the NOx emissions measurements,the ranges of dome equivalence ratio and fuel stage ratio were from 0.55 to 0.58 and 8%to 24%,respectively.The optical diagnosis on separated stratified swirling spray flame were carried out with fuel stage ratio changing from 15%to 30%.Therefore,NO*and OH*chemiluminescence images were obtained.The results show that NOx emissions increase with the increase of the fuel stage ratio.And from the chemiluminescence images,the main flame and pilot flame are found weakly coupled.The pilot flame plays a significant role in NOx emission production because of its higher adiabatic flame temperature.Based on the results of chemiluminescence optical tests,a new NOx emission prediction model is proposed based on the Lefebvre’s single flame model The estimate of local equivalence ratio of the pilot stage’s nonpremixed flame is modified considering the characteristics of spray combustion,and a"PLUS"emission prediction model suitable for separated stratified swirling spray flame is obtained.Compared to the experimental data,the"PLUS"model exhibits a good prediction in a range of±13%of deviation.展开更多

The main stage is designed and optimized in terms of fuel evaporation ratio, fuel/air pre-mixture uniformity, and particle residence time using commer-cial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software. A single-module rectangular combustor is adopted in performance tests including lean ignition, lean blowout, combustion efficiency, emis-sions, and combustion oscillation using aviation kerosene. Furthermore, nitrogen oxides (NOx) emission is also predicted using CFD simulation to compare with test results. Under normal inlet temperature, this combustor can be ignited easily with normal and negative inlet pressures. The lean blowout fuel/air ratio (LBO FAR) at the idle condition is 0.0049. The fuel split proportions between the pilot and main stages are determined through balancing emissions, combustion efficiency, and combustion oscillation. Within the landing and take-off (LTO) cycle, this combustor enables 42%NOx reduction of the standard set by the 6th Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP/6) with high combustion efficiency. The maximum board-band pressure oscillations of inlet air and fuel are below 1%of total pressure during steady-state operations at the LTO cycle specific conditions.展开更多

The resu...In order to investigate the effects of fuel injection distribution on the scrarnjet combustor performance, there are conducted three sets of test on a hydrocarbon fueled direct-connect scramjet test facility. The results of Test A, whose fuel injection is carried out with injectors located on the top-wall and the bottom-wall, show that the fuel injection with an appropriate close-front and centralized distribution would be of much help to optimize combustor performances. The results of Test B, whose fuel injection is performed at the optimal injection locations found in Test A, with a given equivalence ratio and different injection proportions for each injector, show that this injection mode is of little benefit to improve combustor performances. The results of Test C with a circumferential fuel injection distribution displaies the possibility of ameliorating combustor performance. By analyzing the effects of injection location parameters on combustor performances on the base of the data of Test C, it is clear that the injector location has strong coupled influences on combustor performances. In addition, an irmer-force synthesis specific impulse is used to reduce the errors caused by the disturbance of fuel supply and working state of air heater while assessing combustor performances.展开更多

To achieve low-pollutant emission and better combustion performance, the proportion of the air flow in each combustion zone should be precisely determined in the design of the combustor. Due to the presence of entrainment phenomenon, the total air flow in the cavity zone is difficult to estimate. To overcome the measurement difficulty, this study adopts the indirect measurement approach in the experimental research of entrainment phenomenon in the cavity. In accordance with the measurement principle, a TVC model fueled by methane is designed. Under two experimental conditions, i.e. with and without direct air intake in the cavity, the influence of the mainstream air flow velocity, the air intake velocity in the cavity, the height of inlet channel, the structure of holder and the structural proportion of the cavity on entrainment in the cavity is studied, respectively, through experiment at atmospheric temperature and pressure. The results suggest that the air flow velocity of mainstream, the air intake velocity of the cavity and the structure of the holder exert significant influence on the air entrainment, while the influence of structural proportion of the cavity is comparatively insignificant. The square root of momentum ratio of cavity air to mainstream air could be used to analyze the correlation of the entrainment data.展开更多

The present paper aims to study dilution holes including primary dilution holes and secondary dilution holes on the performance of a triple swirler combustor. Experimental investigations are conducted at different inlet airflow velocities(40–70 m/s) and combustor overall fuel–air ratio with fixed inlet airflow temperature(473 K) and atmospheric pressure. The experimental results show that the ignition is very difficult with specific performance of high ignition fuel–air ratio when the primary dilution holes are located 0.6H(where H is the liner dome height)downstream the dome, while the other four cases have almost the same ignition performance. The position of primary dilution holes has an effect on lean blowout stability and has a large influence on combustion efficiency. The combustion efficiency is the highest when the primary dilution holes are placed 0.9H downstream the dome among the five different locations.For the secondary dilution holes, the pattern factor of Design A is better than that of Design B.展开更多

In order to grasp the interaction mechanism between the pulse detonation combustor(PDC)and the turbine,the experimental work in this paper investigates the key factors on the power extraction of a turbocharger turbi...In order to grasp the interaction mechanism between the pulse detonation combustor(PDC)and the turbine,the experimental work in this paper investigates the key factors on the power extraction of a turbocharger turbine driven by a PDC.A PDC consisting of an unvalved tube is integrated with a turbocharger turbine which has a nominal mass flow rate of 0.6 kg/s and50000 r/min.The PDC-turbine hybrid engine is operated on gasoline-air mixtures and runs for6+min to achieve a thermal steady state,and then the engine performance is evaluated under different operating conditions.Results show that the momentum difference per unit area between the turbine inlet and outlet plays an important role in the power extraction,while the pressure peak of the detonation has little effect.The equivalence ratio of fuel and air mixture and the transition structure between PDC and turbine are also important to the power extraction of the turbine.The present work is promising as it suggests that the performance beneft of a PDC-turbine hybrid engine can be realized by increasing the momentum difference per unit area through the optimal design of transition section between the PDC and turbine.展开更多

Current predictive tools for LBO limits are based on decadesold empirical correlations that have l...Lean blow-out (LBO) is critical to operational performance of combustion systems in propulsion and power generation. Current predictive tools for LBO limits are based on decadesold empirical correlations that have limited applicability for modern combustor designs. According to the Lefebvre's model for LBO and classical perfect stirred reactor (PSR) concept, a load parameter (LP) is proposed for LBO analysis of aero-engine combustors in this paper. The parameters contained in load parameter are all estimated from the non-reacting flow field of a combustor that is obtained by numerical simulation. Additionally, based on the load parameter, a method of fuel iterative approximation (FIA) is proposed to predict the LBO limit of the combustor. Compared with experimental data for 19 combustors, it is found that load parameter can represent the actual combustion load of the combustor near LBO and have good relativity with LBO fuel/air ratio (FAR). The LBO FAR obtained by FIA shows good agreement with experimental data, the maximum prediction uncertainty of FIA is about ±17.5%. Because only the non-reacting flow is simulated, the time cost of the LBO limit prediction using FIA is relatively low (about 6 h for one combustor with computer equipment of CPU 2.66 GHz · 4 and 4 GB memory), showing that FIA is reliable and efficient to be used for practical applications.展开更多

With the motivation to design high performance and clean combustor, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is utilized as the powerful design approach. In this paper, Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations of reactive two-phase flow in an experimental low emission combustor is performed. The numerical approach uses an implicit compressible gas solver together with a Lagrangian liquid-phase tracking method and the extended coherent flamelet model for turbulence-combustion interaction. The NOx formation is modeled by the concept of post-processing, which resolves the NOx transport equation with the assumption of frozen temperature distribution. Both turbulence-combustion interaction model and NOx formation model are firstly evaluated by the comparison of experimental data published in open literature of a lean direct injection (LDI) combustor. The test rig studied in this paper is called low emission stirred swirl (LESS) combustor, which is a two-stage model combustor, fueled with liquid kerosene (RP-3) and designed by Beihang University (BUAA). The main stage of LESS combustor employs the principle of lean prevaporized and premixed (LPP) concept to reduce pollutant, and the pilot stage depends on a diffusion flame for flame stabili-zation. Detailed numerical results including species distribution, turbulence performance and burning performance are qualita-tively and quantitatively evaluated. Numerical prediction of NOx emission shows a good agreement with test data at both idle condition and full power condition of LESS combustor. Preliminary results of the flame structure are shown in this paper. The flame stabilization mechanism and NOx reduction effort are also discussed with in-depth analysis.展开更多

The present paper discusses the improved designs of the new combustor over the prior ones of our research group, including that:a) the over-all dimensions, both axial and radial, are reduced to those of an actual aero-engine combustor; b) the air flow distribution is optimized, and especially 15% of the air is fed into the liner as cooling air; c) a straight-wall diffuser with divergence angle 9°is added. A series of experiments (cavity-fueled only, under atmospheric pressure) has been conducted to investigate the performance of the improved TVC. Experimental results show that at the inlet temperature of 523 K, the inlet pressure of 0.1 MPa, stable operation of the TVC test rig is observed for the Mach number 0.15-0.34, indicating good flame stability; the combustion efficiency obtained in this paper falls into the range of 60%-96%; as the total excess air ratio increases, the combustion efficiency decreases, while the increase of the inlet temperature is beneficial to high combustion efficiency; besides, the optimal Mach numbers for high combustion efficiency under different inlet conditions are confirmed. The outlet temperature profiles feature a bottom in the midheight of the exit. This paper demonstrates the feasibility for the TVC to be applied to a realistic aero-engine preliminarily and provides reference for TVC design.展开更多

文摘The spatiotemporal distribution of soot concentration in aero-engine combustor is important for assessing its combustion performance.Here,we report experimental measurements of soot concentration in terms of Soot Volume Fraction(SVF)and its spatiotemporal distribution in a single-sector dual-swirl aero-engine combustor using Two-Color Laser-Induced Incandescence(2C-LII).It is shown that soot predominantly forms in the symmetrical vortices of the primary combustion zone,exhibiting a V-type distribution with higher concentration in the lower half of the zone than the upper half,with a small amount distributed in the secondary recirculation zone.Soot emissions at the combustor outlet are relatively low under three typical operating conditions by LII experiments,which is aligned with Smoke Number(SN)from gas analysis.The effect of inlet air temperature on SVF distribution and dynamics in the primary combustion zone is studied,which suggests that the SVF level in the primary combustion zone monotonically increases with the temperature.Meanwhile,the SVF distribution becomes more symmetrical as the inlet temperature increases,although the overall SVF level in the lower half of the zone is still higher.We also investigate the influence of the inlet air pressure on the SVF distribution at the combustor outlet.The soot concentration at the combustor outlet increases with inlet pressure,mainly distributed irregularly across both sides and the center.On both sides,the distribution is continuous,while the center exhibits dot-like and linear patterns.Numerical simulations correlated SVF distribution with the flow field in the primary combustion zone,qualitatively explaining the observed SVF distribution behavior.These results under various conditions can provide valuable insights for improving the performance of this specific combustor and designing high-temperature-rise combustors in the future.

文摘Knowing the optimal operating parameters of Stirling engines is important for efficient combustion through adaptability to changed pressures and oxygen atmospheres. In this study, the optimum operating conditions for efficient combustion in a singular Stirling engine combustor at different oxygen atmospheres were investigated and determined. Numerical simulations were performed to investigate the effects of ejection ratio and pressure on combustion performance. In an oxygen/carbon dioxide atmosphere, the results show that increasing the ejection ratio substantially alters the flame distribution in the Stirling engine combustor, increasing heat transfer and external combustion efficiency. In contrast, increasing the ejection ratio reduces the average and maximum temperatures of the Stirling engine combustor. Increased pressure affects the flame distribution in the Stirling engine combustor and impedes the flow and convective heat transfer in the combustor, reducing the overall external combustion efficiency at pressures above 6.5 MPa. In an air/carbon dioxide atmosphere, an increased ejection ratio reduces the average and maximum temperatures in the Stirling engine combustor. However, the overall flame distribution does not change substantially. The external combustion efficiency tends to increase and then decrease because of two opposing factors: the increase in the convective heat transfer coefficient and the decrease in the temperature difference. Increasing pressure inhibits forced convection heat transfer in the Stirling engine combustor, reducing external combustion efficiency, which drops from 78% to 65% when pressure increases from 0.2 MPa to 0.5 MPa.

文摘A numerical and experimental study was conducted to investigate the Laser Ablation(LA)ignition mode in an ethylene-fueled supersonic combustor with a cavity flameholder.Theexperiments were operated under a Mach number 2.92 supersonic inflow,with stagnation pressureof 2.4 MPa and stagnation temperature of 1600 K.Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes simulationswere conducted to characterize the mixing process and flow field structure.This study identifiedfour distinct LA ignition modes.Under the specified condition,laser ablation in zero and negativedefocusing states manifested two distinct ignition modes termed Laser Ablation Direct Ignition(LADI)mode and Laser Ablation Re-Ignition(LARI)mode,correspondingly.LA ignition in alocal small cavity,created by depressing the flow field regulator,could facilitate the ignition modetransforming from LARI mode to Laser Ablation Transition Ignition(LATI)mode.On the otherhand,the elevation of the flow field regulator effectively inhibited the forward propagation of theinitial flame kernel and reduced the dissipation of LA plasma,further enhancing the LADI mode.Based on these characteristics,the LADI mode was subdivided into strong(LADI-S)and weak(LADI-W)modes.Facilitating the transition of ignition modes through alterations in the local flowfield could contribute to attaining a more effective and stable LA ignition.

文摘This paper describes an experimental study investigating the effects of sinusoidal pulsed injection on the combustion mode transition in a dual-mode supersonic combustor.The results are obtained under inflow conditions of 2.9 MPa stagnation pressure,1900 K stagnation temperature,and Mach number of 3.0.It has been observed that,at the same equivalence ratio,the combustion mode and flow field structure undergo irreversible changes from a weak combustion state to a strong combustion state at a specific pulsed jet frequency compared to steady jet.For steady jet,the combustion mode is dual-mode.As the frequency of the unsteady jet changes,the combustion mode also changes:it becomes a transition mode at frequencies of 171 Hz and 260 Hz,and a ramjet mode at 216 Hz.Combustion instability under steady jet manifests as a transition in flame stabilization mode.In contrast,under pulsed jet,combustion instability appears either as a transition in flame stabilization mode or as flame blow-off and flashback.The flow field oscillation frequency in the non-reacting flow is 171 Hz,which may resonate with the 171 Hz pulsed jet frequency,making the combustion oscillations most pronounced at this frequency.When the jet frequency is increased to 216 Hz,the combustion intensity significantly increases,and the combustion mode transfers to the ramjet mode.However,further increasing the frequency to 260 Hz results in a decrease in combustion intensity,returning to the transition mode.The frequency of the flow field oscillations varies with the coupling of the pulsed injection frequency,shock wave,and flame,and if the system reaches an unstable state,that is,pre-combustion shock train moves far upstream of the isolator during the pulsed jet period,strong combustion state can be achieved,and this process is irreversible.

文摘Quantitative measurement of Soot Volume Fraction (SVF) is an essential prerequisite for controlling soot particle emissions from aero-engine combustors. As an in-situ and non-intrusive optical diagnostic technique, Laser-Induced Incandescence (LII) has been increasingly applied for soot concentration quantification in various combustion environments such as laminar flame, vehicle exhaust, internal combustion chamber as well as aero-engine combustor. In this work, we experimentally measured the spatial and temporal distribution of SVF using two-color LII technique at the outlet of a single-sector dual-swirl aero-engine model combustor. The effect of inlet pressure and air preheat temperature on the SVF distribution was separately investigated within a pressure range of 241–425 kPa and a temperature range of 292–500 K. The results show that soot production increases with the inlet pressure but generally decreases with the air preheat temperature. Qualitative analysis was provided to explain the above results of parametric studies. The LII experiments were also conducted under 3 designed conditions to evaluate soot emission under practical operations. Particularly, weak soot emission was detected at the outlet under the idle condition. Our experimental results provide a valuable benchmark for evaluating soot emission in the exhaust plume of this aero-engine combustor during practical operations.

文摘To provide advanced diagnostic techniques for diagnosing the outlet temperature distribution and species concentrations of future advanced combustors,this study focuses on a dual-swirl single-dome rectangular combustor.Through the integration of multiple diagnostics,simultaneous measurement of outlet temperature distribution and species concentrations was achieved.The study validates the engineering applicability of these simultaneous measurements using tungsten-rhenium(W-Re)thermocouples and Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering(CARS),CARS and Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy(TDLAS),as well as Gas Analysis(GA)and Mass Spectrometry(MS).The results demonstrate that measurements by thermocouples and CARS exhibit good consistency and repeatability,with a relative deviation of less than 4%,fully meeting the requirements of engineering experiments.The spatial distribution reconstruction results of TDLAS can reflect the temperature distribution characteristics at the combustor outlet.Temperature comparison between TDLAS and CARS at single-point positions shows consistent results,with a relative deviation of less than 11%and 7%under both conditions,respectively.Simultaneous measurements by integrating GA and MS show high engineering applicability for the first time,meeting the requirements for measuring both inorganic species and free radicals at the combustor outlet.Under C_(1)condition,the relative deviations of four key species(Unburned Hydrocarbon(UHC),NO,O_(2),and CO_(2))remain within 2%,while that of NO_(2)is slightly higher at approximately 8%.Under C_(2)condition,the overall deviations increase for most species,with only O_(2)and CO_(2)maintaining relatively low deviations.The primary species of UHCs at the combustor outlet under both conditions are small molecular hydrocarbons(C_(3)-C_(8))and RO_(2)radicals,accounting for over 90%of total UHC.Specifically,RO_(2)species(R is C_(1)-C_(2)alkyl groups)are the predominant species,accounting for 74.3%and 82.1%of total RO_(2)under both conditions,respectively.These integrated diagnostic methods for temperature and species concentrations at the combustor outlet serve as a crucial reference for its engineering applications.

文摘The characteristics of swirler flow field, including cold flow field and combustion flow field, in gas tur- bine combustor with two-stage swirler are studied by using particle image velocimetry (PIV). Velocity compo- nents, fluctuation velocity, Reynolds stress and recirculation zone length are obtained, respectively. Influences of geometric parameter of primary hole, arrangement of primary hole, inlet air temperature, first-stage swirler an- gle and fuel/air ratio on flow field are investigated, respectively. The experimental results reveal that the primary recirculation zone lengths of combustion flow field are shorter than those of cold flow field, and the primary reeir- culation zone lengths decrease with the increase of inlet air temperature and fuel/air ratio. The change of the geo- metric parameter of primary hole casts an important influence on the swirler flow field in two-stage swirler com- bustor.

文摘Experimental investigations on NOx emissions of a single-cup,Lean Premixed Prevaporized(LPP),module combustor were carried out at elevated inlet temperature and pressure up to810 K and 2.0 MPa,close to the real operating conditions of aero-engine combustors.This LPP combustor adopts centrally staged fuel injections which could produce separated stratified swirling spray flame.In the NOx emissions measurements,the ranges of dome equivalence ratio and fuel stage ratio were from 0.55 to 0.58 and 8%to 24%,respectively.The optical diagnosis on separated stratified swirling spray flame were carried out with fuel stage ratio changing from 15%to 30%.Therefore,NO*and OH*chemiluminescence images were obtained.The results show that NOx emissions increase with the increase of the fuel stage ratio.And from the chemiluminescence images,the main flame and pilot flame are found weakly coupled.The pilot flame plays a significant role in NOx emission production because of its higher adiabatic flame temperature.Based on the results of chemiluminescence optical tests,a new NOx emission prediction model is proposed based on the Lefebvre’s single flame model The estimate of local equivalence ratio of the pilot stage’s nonpremixed flame is modified considering the characteristics of spray combustion,and a"PLUS"emission prediction model suitable for separated stratified swirling spray flame is obtained.Compared to the experimental data,the"PLUS"model exhibits a good prediction in a range of±13%of deviation.
文摘A lean-burn internally-staged combustor for low emissions that can be used in civil avi-ation gas turbines is introduced in this paper. The main stage is designed and optimized in terms of fuel evaporation ratio, fuel/air pre-mixture uniformity, and particle residence time using commer-cial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software. A single-module rectangular combustor is adopted in performance tests including lean ignition, lean blowout, combustion efficiency, emis-sions, and combustion oscillation using aviation kerosene. Furthermore, nitrogen oxides (NOx) emission is also predicted using CFD simulation to compare with test results. Under normal inlet temperature, this combustor can be ignited easily with normal and negative inlet pressures. The lean blowout fuel/air ratio (LBO FAR) at the idle condition is 0.0049. The fuel split proportions between the pilot and main stages are determined through balancing emissions, combustion efficiency, and combustion oscillation. Within the landing and take-off (LTO) cycle, this combustor enables 42%NOx reduction of the standard set by the 6th Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP/6) with high combustion efficiency. The maximum board-band pressure oscillations of inlet air and fuel are below 1%of total pressure during steady-state operations at the LTO cycle specific conditions.

文摘In this paper,the spray characteristics of a double-swirl low-emission combustor are analyzed by using Particle Imaging Velocimetry(PIV)and Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence(PLIF)technologies in an optical three-sector combustor test rig.Interactions between sectors and the influence of main stage swirl intensity on spray structure are explained.The results illustrate that the swirl intensity has great effect on the flow field and spray structure.The spray cone angle is bigger when the swirl number is 0.7,0.9 than that when the swirl number is 0.5.The fuel distribution zone is larger and the distribution is more uniform when the swirl number is 0.5.The fuel concentration in the center area of the center plane of side sector(Plane 5)is larger than that of the center plane of middle sector(Plane 1).The spray cone angle in Plane 5 is larger than that in Plane 1.The width of spray cone becomes larger with the increase of Fuel-Air Ratio(FAR),whereas the spray cone angle under different fuel-air ratios are absolutely the same.The results of the mechanism of spray organization in this study can be used to support the design of new low-emission combustor.
文摘The direct-connected supersonic combustor experiment is finished for kerosene fuel ignition in H_2/O_2 preheated impulse facility. The entrance parameter of combustor corresponds to scramjet flight Mach number 3.5. Kerosene ignition is realized by using hydrogen as pilot flame. Wall pressure distributions of combustion are measured and flame photographs of ultraviolet ray are got. Experiment indicates that it is very difficult for kerosene fuel to realize self-ignition at low entrance temperature (below 900K) in supersonic combustor. Hydrogen pilot flame is one of the efficient methods for realizing kerosene ignition.
文摘In order to investigate the effects of fuel injection distribution on the scrarnjet combustor performance, there are conducted three sets of test on a hydrocarbon fueled direct-connect scramjet test facility. The results of Test A, whose fuel injection is carried out with injectors located on the top-wall and the bottom-wall, show that the fuel injection with an appropriate close-front and centralized distribution would be of much help to optimize combustor performances. The results of Test B, whose fuel injection is performed at the optimal injection locations found in Test A, with a given equivalence ratio and different injection proportions for each injector, show that this injection mode is of little benefit to improve combustor performances. The results of Test C with a circumferential fuel injection distribution displaies the possibility of ameliorating combustor performance. By analyzing the effects of injection location parameters on combustor performances on the base of the data of Test C, it is clear that the injector location has strong coupled influences on combustor performances. In addition, an irmer-force synthesis specific impulse is used to reduce the errors caused by the disturbance of fuel supply and working state of air heater while assessing combustor performances.
文摘Trapped vortex combustor (TVC) is an advanced low-pollution gas turbine combustor, with the adoption of staged combustion technique. To achieve low-pollutant emission and better combustion performance, the proportion of the air flow in each combustion zone should be precisely determined in the design of the combustor. Due to the presence of entrainment phenomenon, the total air flow in the cavity zone is difficult to estimate. To overcome the measurement difficulty, this study adopts the indirect measurement approach in the experimental research of entrainment phenomenon in the cavity. In accordance with the measurement principle, a TVC model fueled by methane is designed. Under two experimental conditions, i.e. with and without direct air intake in the cavity, the influence of the mainstream air flow velocity, the air intake velocity in the cavity, the height of inlet channel, the structure of holder and the structural proportion of the cavity on entrainment in the cavity is studied, respectively, through experiment at atmospheric temperature and pressure. The results suggest that the air flow velocity of mainstream, the air intake velocity of the cavity and the structure of the holder exert significant influence on the air entrainment, while the influence of structural proportion of the cavity is comparatively insignificant. The square root of momentum ratio of cavity air to mainstream air could be used to analyze the correlation of the entrainment data.

文摘A triple swirler combustor is considered to be a promising solution for future high temperature rise combustors. The present paper aims to study dilution holes including primary dilution holes and secondary dilution holes on the performance of a triple swirler combustor. Experimental investigations are conducted at different inlet airflow velocities(40–70 m/s) and combustor overall fuel–air ratio with fixed inlet airflow temperature(473 K) and atmospheric pressure. The experimental results show that the ignition is very difficult with specific performance of high ignition fuel–air ratio when the primary dilution holes are located 0.6H(where H is the liner dome height)downstream the dome, while the other four cases have almost the same ignition performance. The position of primary dilution holes has an effect on lean blowout stability and has a large influence on combustion efficiency. The combustion efficiency is the highest when the primary dilution holes are placed 0.9H downstream the dome among the five different locations.For the secondary dilution holes, the pattern factor of Design A is better than that of Design B.
文摘An air-cooled probe was designed for measurement of total pressure at combustor outlet;its cooling scheme combined the film cooling and convection cooling.With the aid of CFD technique,cooling effectiveness of the coolant jets at various blow ratios was compared;suitable blow ratios and configuration of film holes were chosen accordingly.The overall cooling performance of the probe was evaluated via CFD technique,the design was improved according to the simulation result,and the cooling effect of the leading edge was obviously strengthened by increasing the local coolant mass flow rate.The results of wind tunnel test indicated that,between Mach numbers 0.2 and 0.4,the probe achieved a high accuracy at various attack angles.The probe was utilized in an annular combustor rig test,the highest temperature reached 1 760 Kand total pressure reaches 1 036 kPa.The result of rig test demonstrates that the coolant film distribution consistent appropriately with the CFD results.

文摘In order to grasp the interaction mechanism between the pulse detonation combustor(PDC)and the turbine,the experimental work in this paper investigates the key factors on the power extraction of a turbocharger turbine driven by a PDC.A PDC consisting of an unvalved tube is integrated with a turbocharger turbine which has a nominal mass flow rate of 0.6 kg/s and50000 r/min.The PDC-turbine hybrid engine is operated on gasoline-air mixtures and runs for6+min to achieve a thermal steady state,and then the engine performance is evaluated under different operating conditions.Results show that the momentum difference per unit area between the turbine inlet and outlet plays an important role in the power extraction,while the pressure peak of the detonation has little effect.The equivalence ratio of fuel and air mixture and the transition structure between PDC and turbine are also important to the power extraction of the turbine.The present work is promising as it suggests that the performance beneft of a PDC-turbine hybrid engine can be realized by increasing the momentum difference per unit area through the optimal design of transition section between the PDC and turbine.
文摘Lean blow-out (LBO) is critical to operational performance of combustion systems in propulsion and power generation. Current predictive tools for LBO limits are based on decadesold empirical correlations that have limited applicability for modern combustor designs. According to the Lefebvre's model for LBO and classical perfect stirred reactor (PSR) concept, a load parameter (LP) is proposed for LBO analysis of aero-engine combustors in this paper. The parameters contained in load parameter are all estimated from the non-reacting flow field of a combustor that is obtained by numerical simulation. Additionally, based on the load parameter, a method of fuel iterative approximation (FIA) is proposed to predict the LBO limit of the combustor. Compared with experimental data for 19 combustors, it is found that load parameter can represent the actual combustion load of the combustor near LBO and have good relativity with LBO fuel/air ratio (FAR). The LBO FAR obtained by FIA shows good agreement with experimental data, the maximum prediction uncertainty of FIA is about ±17.5%. Because only the non-reacting flow is simulated, the time cost of the LBO limit prediction using FIA is relatively low (about 6 h for one combustor with computer equipment of CPU 2.66 GHz · 4 and 4 GB memory), showing that FIA is reliable and efficient to be used for practical applications.
文摘Air worthiness requirements of the aircraft engine emission bring new challenges to the combustor research and design. With the motivation to design high performance and clean combustor, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is utilized as the powerful design approach. In this paper, Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations of reactive two-phase flow in an experimental low emission combustor is performed. The numerical approach uses an implicit compressible gas solver together with a Lagrangian liquid-phase tracking method and the extended coherent flamelet model for turbulence-combustion interaction. The NOx formation is modeled by the concept of post-processing, which resolves the NOx transport equation with the assumption of frozen temperature distribution. Both turbulence-combustion interaction model and NOx formation model are firstly evaluated by the comparison of experimental data published in open literature of a lean direct injection (LDI) combustor. The test rig studied in this paper is called low emission stirred swirl (LESS) combustor, which is a two-stage model combustor, fueled with liquid kerosene (RP-3) and designed by Beihang University (BUAA). The main stage of LESS combustor employs the principle of lean prevaporized and premixed (LPP) concept to reduce pollutant, and the pilot stage depends on a diffusion flame for flame stabili-zation. Detailed numerical results including species distribution, turbulence performance and burning performance are qualita-tively and quantitatively evaluated. Numerical prediction of NOx emission shows a good agreement with test data at both idle condition and full power condition of LESS combustor. Preliminary results of the flame structure are shown in this paper. The flame stabilization mechanism and NOx reduction effort are also discussed with in-depth analysis.

文摘A trapped vortex combustor (TVC) has been a very promising novel concept for it offers improvements in lean blow out, altitude relight, operating range, as well as a potential to decrease NOx emissions compared to conventional combustors. The present paper discusses the improved designs of the new combustor over the prior ones of our research group, including that:a) the over-all dimensions, both axial and radial, are reduced to those of an actual aero-engine combustor; b) the air flow distribution is optimized, and especially 15% of the air is fed into the liner as cooling air; c) a straight-wall diffuser with divergence angle 9°is added.
