It is essential to learn the temporal and spatial concentration distributions and variations of seeding agents in cloud seeding of precipitation enhancement. A three-dimensional puff trajectory model incorporating a mesoscale nonhydrostatic model has been formulated, and is applied to simulating the transporting and diffusive characteristics of multiple line sources of seeding agents within super-cooled stratus. Several important factors are taken into consideration that affect the diffusion of seeding materials such as effects of topography and vertical wind shear, temporal and spatial variation of seeding parameters and wet deposition. The particles of seeding agents are assumed to be almost inert, they have no interaction with the particles of the cloud or precipitation except that they are washed out by precipitation. The model validity is demonstrated by the analyses and comparisons of model results, and checked by the sensitivity experiments of diffusive coefficients and atmospheric stratification. The advantage of this model includes not only its exact reflection of heterogeneity and unsteadiness of background fields, but also its good simulation of transport and diffusion of multiple line sources. The horizontal diffusion rate and the horizontal transport distance have been proposed that they usually were difficult to obtain in other models. In this simulation the horizontal diffusion rate is 0.82 m s(-1) for average of one hour, and the horizontal average transport distance reaches 65 km after 1 4 which are closely related to the background Fields. 展开更多

A precipitation enhancement operation using an aircraft was conducted from 1415 to 1549 LST 14 March 2000 in Shaanxi Province. The NOAA-14 satellite data received at 1535 LST soon after the cloud seeding shows that a vivid cloud track appears on the satellite image. The length, average width and maximum width of the cloud track are 301 km, 8.3 and 11 km, respectively. Using a three-dimensional numerical model of transport and diffusion of seeding material within stratiform clouds, the spatial concentration distribution characteristics of seeding material at different times, especially at the satellite receiving time, are simulated. The model results at the satellite receiving time are compared with the features of the cloud track. The transported position of the cloud seeding material coincides with the position of the track. The width, shape and extent of diffusion of the cloud seeding material are similar to that of the cloud track. The spatial variation of width is consistent with that of the track. The simulated length of each segment of the seeding line accords with the length of every segment of the track. Each segment of the cloud track corresponds to the transport and diffusion of each segment of the seeding line. These results suggest that the cloud track is the direct physical reflection of cloud seeding at the cloud top. The comparison demonstrates that the numerical model of transport and diffusion can simulate the main characteristics of transport and diffusion of seeding material, and the simulated results are sound and trustworthy. The area, volume, vidth, depth, and lateral diffusive rate corresponding to concentrations 1, 4, and 10 L-1are simulated in order to understand the variations of influencing range. 展开更多

Results show that the law of material trans- port/diffusion driven by background current field simulated by the coupled wave-tide-surge model is dif- ferent from that simulated by pure tide-surge, and more different from traditional ones driven by tidal current. Diffusion of pure H2, CO, N2,O2 and CH4 gases through nanoporous carbon membrane is investigated by carrying out non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulations. The flux, transport diffusivity and activation energy for the pure gases diffusing through carbon membranes with various pore widths were investigated. The simulation results reveal that transport diffusivity increases with temperature and pore width, and its values have a magnitude of 10^-7 m^2·s^-1 for pore widths of about 0.80 to 1.21 nm at 273 to 300 K. The activation energies for the gases diffusion through the membrane with various pore widths are about 1-5 kJ·mol^-1, The results of transport diffusivities are comparable with that of Rao and Sircar (J. Membr. Sci., 1996), indicating the NEMD simulation method is a good tool for predicting the transport diffusivities for gases in porous materials, which is always difficult to be accurately measured by experiments. 展开更多

We show that by integrating out the electric field and incorporating proper boundary conditions,a Boltzmann equation can describe electron transport properties,continuously from the diffusive to ballistic regimes.General analytical formulas of the conductance in D = 1,2,3 dimensions are obtained,which recover the Boltzmann–Drude formula and Landauer–B ¨uttiker formula in the diffusive and ballistic limits,respectively.This intuitive and efficient approach can be applied to investigate the interplay of system size and impurity scattering in various charge and spin transport phenomena,when the quantum interference effect is not important. 展开更多

Quantitative real-time retrieval of concentration-lengths (CL) through gaseous plumes is an important tool for environmental monitoring, enabling remote monitoring of emissions from industrial facilities and risk assessment in scenarios of toxic gas releases. The adoption of LWIR (Long Wave InfraRed) hyperspectral imaging as a leading technique for remote gas plume detection paved the way for an introduction of a precise CL estimation and two-dimensional (2D) mapping. A novel methodology for evaluating and characterizing the performance of a retrieval algorithm is presented. The algorithm utilizes state-of-the-art retrieved hyperspectral 2D mapping and is applied on a series of localized atmospheric tracer gas (SF<sub><span style="font-family:Verdana;">6</span></sub><span style="font-family:Verdana;">) releases in monitored environmental conditions. The retrieved CL distributions are compared to a numeric atmospheric T&D (Transport and Diffusion) model. Satisfactory agreement between retrieved and simulated CL prediction is manifested, and the uncertainty involved is quantified. Possible sources for the remained discrepancies between retrieved and simulated CL values are characterized, and methods to minimize them are discussed.</span> 展开更多

An investigation into tungsten(W)impurity behaviors with the update of the EAST lower W divertor for H-mode has been carried out using SOLPS-ITER.This work aims to study the effect of external neon(Ne)impurity seeding on W impurity sputtering with the bundled charge state model.As the Ne seeding rate increases,plasma parameters,W concentration(C_(W)),and eroded W flux(Γ_(W)^(Ero))at both targets are compared and analyzed between the highly resolved bundled model‘jett’and the full W charge state model.The results indicate that‘jett’can produce divertor behaviors essentially in agreement with the full W charge state model.The bundled scheme with high resolution in low W charge states(<W^(20+))has no obvious effect on the Ne impurity distribution and thus little effect on W sputtering by Ne.Meanwhile,parametric scans of radial particle and thermal transport diffusivities(D_(⊥)andχ_(e,i))in the SOL are simulated using the‘jett’bundled model.The results indicate that the transport diffusivity variations have significant influences on the divertor parameters,especially for W impurity sputtering. 展开更多

The scenario simulation analysis of water environmental emergencies is very important for risk prevention and control,and emergency response.To quickly and accurately simulate the transport and diffusion process of high-intensity pollutants during sudden environmental water pollution events,in this study,a high-precision pollution transport and diffusion model for unstructured grids based on Compute Unified Device Architecture(CUDA)is proposed.The finite volume method of a total variation diminishing limiter with the Kong proposed r-factor is used to reduce numerical diffusion and oscillation errors in the simulation of pollutants under sharp concentration conditions,and graphics processing unit acceleration technology is used to improve computational efficiency.The advection diffusion process of the model is verified numerically using two benchmark cases,and the efficiency of the model is evaluated using an engineering example.The results demonstrate that the model perform well in the simulation of material transport in the presence of sharp concentration.Additionally,it has high computational efficiency.The acceleration ratio is 46 times the single-thread acceleration effect of the original model.The efficiency of the accelerated model meet the requirements of an engineering application,and the rapid early warning and assessment of water pollution accidents is achieved. 展开更多

Electrochemical fixation of nitrogen to ammonia with highly active,highly selective and low cost electrocatalysts is a sustainable alternative to the extremely energy-and capital-intensive Haber-Bosch process.Herein,we demonstrate a near electroneutral WO3 nanobelt catalyst to be a promising electrocatalyst for selective and efficient nitrogen reduction.The concept of near electroneutral interface is demonstrated by fabricating WO3 nanobelts with small zeta potential value on carbon fiber paper,which ensures a loose double layer structure of the electrode/electrolyte interface and allows nitrogen molecules access the active sites more easily and regulates proton transfer to increase the catalytic selectivity.The WO3/CFP electrode with optimal surface charge achieves a NH3 yield rate of 4.3μg·h-1·mg-1 and a faradaic efficiency of 37.3%at-0.3 V vs.RHE,rivalling the performance of the state-of-the-art nitrogen reduction reaction electrocatalysts.The result reveals that an unobstructed gas-diffusion pathway for continually supplying enough nitrogen to the active catalytic sites is of great importance to the overall catalytic performance. 展开更多
