There are 5 grades of villages according to their scales, that is, villages have a population over 1 000, between 500 and 1 000, between 100 and 500, less than 100, less than 50. The function structure of Dongzhai Town is divided into 3 grades, Grade 1 (core village), is village with such functions as tourist service, transportation and distribution function. Grade 2 (characteristic village), is agricultural settlement with functions such as industrial function, transportation service, tourist service, and forestry function. Grade 3 (general village), is agricultural settlements with prominent agricultural functions (dry farming). This essay also predicts the change and responses of this town based on the population forecast models. It is predicted that the population of Jiancheng District will reach 4 750 in 2010, 6 400 in 2015, 8 700 in 2020. Returning farmland to forests in Fenhe River valley can ensure the conservation of water resources and the development of tourist service. The proportion of forest land, especially bushes land, and proportion of grassland, especially artificial grass will increase dramatically. The number of slope land will be down a bit. The Lands for settlement and transportation will increase with the development of ecological migration and tourist service. Specialized land such as water area and places of interest will skyrocket. Dar es Salaam is one of the fastest growing cities in East Africa, with a population of 4,364,541 whose annual growth rate is 4.5%. The population increase is mainly caused by rural to urban migration causing traffic ...Dar es Salaam is one of the fastest growing cities in East Africa, with a population of 4,364,541 whose annual growth rate is 4.5%. The population increase is mainly caused by rural to urban migration causing traffic congestion, unemployment, emerging of unplanned settlements, inadequate infrastructure, and social and housing services. In order to overcome these challenges there is an urgent need to establish and determine suitable locations of satellite towns to the outskirts of the central business district (CBD) to strengthen economic and social activities using reliable techniques. Selecting suitable locations of satellite towns has been determined by using distance from the CBD and population growth indicators. The limitations of using these indicators include unsuitable locations, which ultimately failed to attract economic growth in such areas. In this study, we introduce a new approach of selecting suitable location of satellite towns in fast growing cities. This approach uses Saaty Model and Geographic Information Systems techniques, whereby a pair wise comparison matrix, consistency index and consistency ratio are employed to determine suitable locations of satellite towns in Ubungo and Kinondoni Municipalities. Also, seven criteria were used to produce suitability maps for water, power line, road, communication line, elevation, slope and land use. The results obtained from this study show that about 5.31% of the area was classified as highly suitable, 29.82% as moderately suitable, 24.27% as marginally suitable and 40.6% permanently unsuitable. Locations of satellite towns determined using Saaty model was found to be on highly suitable areas whereas locations of satellite towns proposed by the Dar es Salaam master plan were located on marginally suitable areas. The study concludes that Saaty Model, if integrated with GIS, can be effectively used to determine suitable locations for satellite towns in urban areas.展开更多

However there are many problems in the development of small towns, esp. in land use. The paper first discusses the land problems in the development of small towns. Such as much cultivated land lies idle, under utilization and waste of land, increasing illegal use of land, unstable contractual relationship for land use. The relationship between the development of small towns and land use is also studied. Then the guidelines for the land system innovations of small towns are put forward. Namely the sustainability of social and economic development, the balance between land reservation and land utilization, the provision of service to village, agriculture and farmer, the management of land resource and land assets, the parsimonious and legal use of land. The basic framework of land system innovations of small towns is put forward finally. The majority of water utilities,particularly public service providers such as Gidole town,are struggling to deliver a sufficient and consistent supply of water in Ethiopia's developing towns.The primary objective ...The majority of water utilities,particularly public service providers such as Gidole town,are struggling to deliver a sufficient and consistent supply of water in Ethiopia's developing towns.The primary objective of this study was to assess the hydraulic performance of water supply distribution system in Gidole Town,Ethiopia,a representative case of the challenges facing public water utilities in developing towns.The WaterGEMS v8i hydraulic model was utilized to simulate and evaluate the distribution network's performance.The system was configured as a looped network and analyzed against standard permitted pressure and velocity values in the distribution system.The model was effectively calibrated(coefficient of determination(R^(2))=0.969)using measured and observed pressure data.The model simulation run was conducted at peak and low hourly demand with 1.9 and 0.25 hourly factors,respectively.The estimated water demand of the town is 1284.3m^(3)/day(48.4 liters per capita per day),and it would be increased to 3099.77m^(3)/day(66.03 l/c/d)by the 2037 design period.The system experiences significant non-revenue water losses(75,434.11m^(3)/year),accounting for 29.9%of total water production;as a result,the present water supply coverage of the town is only 33.6%.Hydraulic simulations under peak and low demand scenarios revealed nodes with pressures outside the normal range,indicating system-wide inefficiencies.These findings highlight a combined issue of large physical losses and insufficient capacity of the water supply in the town,which is typical of many municipal systems in developing regions.The study concludes that strategic infrastructure rehabilitation,with an emphasis on pressure management and leak reduction,is not only a town necessity but a fundamental requirement for improving water security and financial sustainability for utilities in Ethiopia and similar contexts.The findings and methodology have been forwarded to town's water supply project and institutional development departments for immediate future implementation and provide a replicable framework for evidence-based investment and planning in other struggling municipalities in similar situations.展开更多

Thus, this paper analyzed some actual cases in Guangxi which are successful in designing the overall image of small towns, including Cendou Xincun, Xing'an County and Yangshuo Dongling, found that all constructions show rich elements of traditional houses, characteristics of local houses and distinctive cultures of folk houses, and concluded that tradition was the source to construct the features of small towns, innovation was the basis to develop small towns and culture was the core to sublimate the features of small towns. It was considered that traditional architectures could only be integrated with modern architectures by fully excavating cultural characteristics of regional architectures, combining with regional tourism industry and motivating local people to participate in reconstruction, to enhance local styles and national features, and create a beautiful, comfortable and harmonious living environment, so the overall regional styles and features of small towns can be represented and proceeded, comprehensive competitiveness and strong vitality can be given to those towns.展开更多

文摘The majority of water utilities,particularly public service providers such as Gidole town,are struggling to deliver a sufficient and consistent supply of water in Ethiopia's developing towns.The primary objective of this study was to assess the hydraulic performance of water supply distribution system in Gidole Town,Ethiopia,a representative case of the challenges facing public water utilities in developing towns.The WaterGEMS v8i hydraulic model was utilized to simulate and evaluate the distribution network's performance.The system was configured as a looped network and analyzed against standard permitted pressure and velocity values in the distribution system.The model was effectively calibrated(coefficient of determination(R^(2))=0.969)using measured and observed pressure data.The model simulation run was conducted at peak and low hourly demand with 1.9 and 0.25 hourly factors,respectively.The estimated water demand of the town is 1284.3m^(3)/day(48.4 liters per capita per day),and it would be increased to 3099.77m^(3)/day(66.03 l/c/d)by the 2037 design period.The system experiences significant non-revenue water losses(75,434.11m^(3)/year),accounting for 29.9%of total water production;as a result,the present water supply coverage of the town is only 33.6%.Hydraulic simulations under peak and low demand scenarios revealed nodes with pressures outside the normal range,indicating system-wide inefficiencies.These findings highlight a combined issue of large physical losses and insufficient capacity of the water supply in the town,which is typical of many municipal systems in developing regions.The study concludes that strategic infrastructure rehabilitation,with an emphasis on pressure management and leak reduction,is not only a town necessity but a fundamental requirement for improving water security and financial sustainability for utilities in Ethiopia and similar contexts.The findings and methodology have been forwarded to town's water supply project and institutional development departments for immediate future implementation and provide a replicable framework for evidence-based investment and planning in other struggling municipalities in similar situations.

文摘Through the field investigation of a typical ancient town in west Sichuan,Huanglongxi Town in Shuangliu County of Chengdu City,Fengshui orientations,characteristics of folk dwellings,the Hakkas buildings and stilt-building culture in the study area were analyzed from the perspectives of geographical location,overall layout and residential culture.The representative layouts of ancient Fengshui doctrines were stressed,such as "carrying the yin at its back and the yang in front,backing on mountains and facing water","four gods at four directions"(Azure Dragon in the left,White Tiger in the right,Black Tortoise at back and Vermilion Bird in front).Moreover,primitive architectural style and rhythm of the continuous rows of buildings,"seven streets and nine lanes",and overhanging eaves in the ancient Huanglongxi Town were demonstrated.The study is of great referential value for researches on architectural landscapes of ancient towns in west Sichuan,and modern architectural landscape designs.

文摘The paper had pointed out hollow ancient town was the result of urbanization and desire; and analyzed that hollowness made ancient towns degenerate in nature, economy and social function, seriously blocking the sustainable development of economic society of ancient towns. Based on the connotation and idea of cultural reproduction, in terms of application of basic theories of cultural ecology and restoration ecology, it had established tourism development of solid ancient towns, which had been analyzed specifically from the perspectives of representation of ancient towns'scene, cultural realization and cultural promotion. By taking Zouwa Ancient Town in the west of the main urban area of Chongqing City for example, it had discussed tourism development practice of ancient towns, emphasized making Zouma scene reappear from the aspects of pattern protection, restoration and treatment of ecological environment, ancient towns' protection and cultural facilities' construction, experiencing and publicizing Zouma culture. It also highlighted taking historical and cultural heritages as the theme of tourist products, and proposed development mode of solid ancient towns, realizing reproduction of cultural heritage.
文摘The development of nature reserve was closely related with that of villages and towns at its surrounding area.It was the core issue to be discussed in the paper as to how to form mutually beneficial relation between them and achieve both protection of nature reserve and economic development of villages and towns.Through analysis on internal relation between nature reserve and villages and towns,it put forward three methods for planning and construction of villages and towns around the nature reserve.By taking Hengshui Lake National Nature Reserve in Weitun Town for example,it hoped to serve as a modest spur to induce exchange and discussion in the field.

文摘Through the field study on Luocheng Town that is a traditional ancient town in Southern Sichuan,the paper has concluded existing resources and current situation of it.After the illustration of the general situation and protection value of Luocheng ancient town,it has analyzed the protection situation and existing problems,and considered that its landscape and environment has been seriously destroyed and architectures have been damaged gravely,protection capitals are lacked and the publicity of ancient towns protection is insufficient.In view of above problems,constructive suggestions have been proposed for the protection and development of ancient towns.It should conduct reasonable protection and planning,adjust functional structure of ancient towns,retain the completeness and integrity of ancient towns,and enhance and improve residents' protection consciousness,so as to promote the protection and sustainable development of traditional ancient towns in Southern Sichuan.
文摘According to the conditions to develop Long Stay in small tourism towns,the demonstration of Long Stay in the planning and construction of small towns was taken into consideration,and its benefits for tourism towns were analyzed.The results showed that small tourism towns were endowed with sound conditions to develop Long Stay,which played its role in the overall planning of towns and would benefit the economic development of these towns.

文摘Since the 21st century, the construction of small towns in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has been accelerated obviously and has already taken shape, but there are still some problems such as old towns not being well protected, new towns constructed in unified style, regional culture not being excavated and town features without characteristics. Thus, this paper analyzed some actual cases in Guangxi which are successful in designing the overall image of small towns, including Cendou Xincun, Xing'an County and Yangshuo Dongling, found that all constructions show rich elements of traditional houses, characteristics of local houses and distinctive cultures of folk houses, and concluded that tradition was the source to construct the features of small towns, innovation was the basis to develop small towns and culture was the core to sublimate the features of small towns. It was considered that traditional architectures could only be integrated with modern architectures by fully excavating cultural characteristics of regional architectures, combining with regional tourism industry and motivating local people to participate in reconstruction, to enhance local styles and national features, and create a beautiful, comfortable and harmonious living environment, so the overall regional styles and features of small towns can be represented and proceeded, comprehensive competitiveness and strong vitality can be given to those towns.
文摘By taking Luodai Ancient Town in Longquanyi District of Chengdu City for example,from the perspective of geological location,historical cultural characteristic and layout,the paper had analyzed layout feature of the ancient town,and emphasized that the ancient people had paid attention to spiritual belief of geomantic omen.By taking "near the mountain and by the river" and "Yin at the back and Yang in front" as important reference,it had analyzed manifestation of geomantic omen in Luodai ancient town,and highlighted the composition feature,scientificness and practicality of "one street and seven lanes" as the traditional layout.Hakka residence and guild buildings were the most characteristic representations of Luodai ancient town.It stressed that Hakka residence was a unique architectural style forming by integrating local natural condition,national belief,and traditional construction technology;and guild building was the characteristic product of fellow townsman contact in Ming and Qing Dynasty.It has selected "WU Family House",Guangdong Guild,Jiangxi Guild and Huguang Guild to analyze architectural characteristics in ancient towns,so as to further study characteristic landscape in Luodai ancient town.
